Administrators' newsletter – August 2022
News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2022).
- Valereee
- Anthony Appleyard (deceased) • Capitalistroadster • Samsara
- An RfC has been closed with consensus to add javascript that will show edit notices for editors editing via a mobile device. This only works for users using a mobile browser, so iOS app editors will still not be able to see edit notices.
- An RfC has been closed with the consensus that train stations are not inherently notable.
- The Wikimania 2022 Hackathon will take place virtually from 11 August to 14 August.
- Administrators will now see links on user pages for "Change block" and "Unblock user" instead of just "Block user" if the user is already blocked. (T308570)
- The arbitration case request Geschichte has been automatically closed after a 3 month suspension of the case.
- You can vote for candidates in the 2022 Board of Trustees elections from 16 August to 30 August. Two community elected seats are up for election.
- Wikimania 2022 is taking place virtually from 11 August to 14 August. The schedule for wikimania is listed here. There are also a number of in-person events associated with Wikimania around the world.
- Tech tip: When revision-deleting on desktop, hold ⇧ Shift between clicking two checkboxes to select every box in that range.
Important
Bagumba there is someone who vandalized paolo banchero's article i can't undo it and that person keeps editing DrLuigiGamer2001 (talk) 11:29, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) I reverted to the last good version at Paolo Banchero and requested page protection for the article. Larry Hockett (Talk) 12:10, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
- @DrLuigiGamer2001: Thanks. You are encouraged to revert vandalism on your own and follow Wikipedia:Vandalism#Handling. @Larry Hockett: Thanks for removing and requesting protection; it looks to be protected now. —Bagumba (talk) 14:57, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
Christian Kälin
Hi Bagumba. I'm reaching out to you as an experienced editor who is listed at Category:Wikipedians willing to provide third opinions. Could you please take a look at the discussion I started at Talk:Christian Kälin#Unexplained removals of sourced content, WP:COATRACK additions? Another editor made what I believe are significant inappropriate changes (both to the article in question and more recently to Henley & Partners), but I'm unable to do a WP:BRD revert due to my COI - so I'm looking for a fair-minded, uninvolved editor to weigh in. Thanks in advance, Sarah Nicklin (talk) 17:07, 10 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Sarah Nicklin: Hi there. Technically this doesn't fit into Wikipedia:Third opinion, as there is no other specific party involved. I see that the discussion you started is regarding another person's edit, but you don't seem to have specifically notify them. Perhaps the easiest solution is that you do so, and you work with them directly to reach a resolution. Alternatively, perhaps a related WikiProject ( Wikipedia:WikiProject Switzerland?) might show some interest in the topic. Regards. —Bagumba (talk) 05:10, 11 August 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for responding. I apologize for leaving out some context - the reason I see this as an active content dispute is that this is an extension of the dispute that took place at Talk:Henley & Partners#Major changes made without consensus - the edits to both articles were done at the same time by the same editor. The two of us discussed the content issue there briefly and unconstructively, and the dispute was only resolved when a different editor eventually stepped in. I'm happy to ping the other party at the Christian Kälin article as well as a matter of process, though I'm certain we are past the point of constructive dialogue there too. In any case, I do hope you'll agree to take a quick look and weigh in, not necessarily as an "official" WP:3O situation, but just as an editor who knows how to apply Wikipedia content guidelines in these kinds of cases. Thanks again, Sarah Nicklin (talk) 07:28, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Sarah Nicklin: No worries. Apologies, but I generally limit myself as a volunteer here by steering away from topics I'm not too familiar with. In Kalin's case, I wouldn't feel comfortable commenting on its content without investing more time to learn about him. Alternatively, consider notifying those who were involved at Henley & Partners (though be aware of the Wikipedia:Canvassing guideline). Best of luck.—Bagumba (talk) 08:19, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
