Resource Request
Finding a source
Tips for finding a source yourself
- Send a request to the author(s) of research papers for a copy of their paper by email.
- Check what sources are available to you in The Wikipedia Library – editors active for at least six months with over 500 edits, at least 10 of them in the last month, and with no active blocks have immediate access to the Wikipedia Library Bundle.
- Available databases in the bundle include: Gale, EBSCO, JSTOR, Oxford and ProQuest
- Consider applying for access to additional Wikipedia Library sources at The Wikipedia Library Card Platform.
- Additional databases include: Newspapers.com, NewspaperARCHIVE.com, Project MUSE, Taylor & Francis and much more.
- Search for periodical titles in the Wikipedia Library database index at The Wikipedia Library/A–Z.
- Check on Google Books, or your local library or national library may be able to obtain it through an interlibrary loan or subscription.
- Search Google Scholar for archived copies of journals in institutional repositories.
- Check whether your alma mater's library offers electronic document delivery services for alumni, if applicable.
- If the article is paywalled, a browser extension may bypass the paywall. Try Unpaywall for academic journals or Bypass Paywalls Clean (Firefox, Chrome) for news websites.
Note that sites like Library Genesis (LibGen) and Sci-Hub offer direct, free access to a large range of publications, but there are legal questions around their use and neither the Wikimedia Foundation nor the Wikipedia community endorses them.
Making a request
- A request may be an open question or you may ask for a specific journal, article or work.
- All kinds of sources are possible here: newspapers, magazine article, databases, encyclopedias, court decisions, laws, books, etc.
- We cannot perform full book copy requests due to copyright. Please ask for specific pages that relate to the article(s) you need them for.
- You may contact research helpers directly or make a request on this page.
- To receive email without disclosing your email address publicly, configure your email in Special:Preferences.
- Provide as much detail as possible: a full citation with author, title, publisher, and date or identifiers like DOI, ISBN, ISSN, PMID, OCLC, etc.
- Indicate which Wikipedia articles are being improved.
- Once a request has been fulfilled add the {{Resolved}} template.
- Filled requests are archived.
- Requests unfilled after three months will be archived.

Fulfilling a request
- Anyone may offer advice and fulfill requests.
- Indicate which part or parts of the request is being handled so others do not duplicate your work.
- Notify (mention) the requester using
{{ping|REQUESTER_USERNAME}}
. - You can:
- point to a pre-existing electronic document by giving its URL ( http://... )
- share scans of pages or documents using a file-sharing service, provided it is legal
- upload out of copyright works to Wikimedia Commons and/ or Wikisource (but be careful that this does not breach your own institution's policies)
- email a link or plain text to a requester using the Special:EmailUser feature but for attachments, you need to ask them to mail you first so you can reply.
Copyright tips:
- Respect copyrights and terms of services of any online services you use.
- Share content in a limited manner that is targeted at as few individuals as possible to achieve a specific improvement on Wikipedia. All content is shared under a presumed non-commercial, educational, fair use purpose in order to conduct research about topics on Wikipedia and/or to improve Wikipedia content.
- Share copies privately rather than with a publicly accessible link whenever possible. Copyrighted articles from print publications or copies obtained through online databases should not be uploaded for unrestricted distribution via open websites. Preferably, do not share login access codes for entire websites; rather, share only an individual copy of a resource.
- Remember that you take on the individual risk when sharing content, and act in a way that is comfortable and safe for you. Individual editors are solely responsible for sharing copyrighted content and assume all legal risks.

- Hello. I checked the book you sent and unfortunately that was not the book I wanted. I was looking for Uzbek tales Chötiktscha/Xo’tikcha (tale type 425B) [1] and Die goldhaarigen Zwillingskinder (tale type 707). At any rate, the pages mention other tale types I will look into. A blessing in disguise, I guess... KHR FolkMyth (talk) 20:14, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
- @KHR FolkMyth: but I sent you Märchen aus Samarkand from 2004 by Keller, Gabriele. That's what you wanted in your items #2 and #3. The ISBN 9783000092282 matches it too. Did you make the mistake or did I? – Doc Taxon

- Worry not, @Doc Taxon:. I've just checked your email. The tale nr.7 in what you sent me is tale type ATU 675, "The Lazy Boy" (aka. Peruonto and Emelian the Fool). Will serve to expand thorse articles. As for the tales of the request, I rechecked the googlebooks link and it appears the book is from 2002 (dunno how I mistook the year):

- Strange... Judging by the Inhalt ("Summary"), the book is indeed this one, although the 2002 edition lists them as tales nr. 5 and 7. But indeed: tales Choktischa (tale nr. 6) and Die goldhaarigen Zwillingskinder (tale nr. 8), and their notes.KHR FolkMyth (talk) 13:46, 6 August 2022 (UTC)

- Thanks for inputs. Actually wish to find out 'a particular sentence' is being referred by Chaudhry from which particular book and page of reasonably large historian Ram Nath#Works, that's why I am looking for Chaudhry's bibliography.
- At page 21 historian Nazir Chaudhry is referring to another historian Ram Nath's sentence ".. absolutely improbable that the grand Mughal emperor would address his married wife as yar .." (as much I could see in google book snippet google books does not give preview for this book), some other media articles too refer to this sentence, but it is unclear from which book and page number of Ram Nath's sentence is cited.
- Nazir Chaudhry too is reasonably being referred by other authors so I will prefer to go through his presentation.

Tale type index for Armenian folktales (based on the ATU system)

The work translates roughly to "Index of Types of Armenian Folktales". The work is said to contain 48 pages, but I only need the pages in regards to types ATU 425-449 (section about the Animal as Bridegroom tales), ATU 505-508 (section about the Grateful dead (folklore)) and ATU 707 (about The Three Golden Children (folklore)).
I believe the selected sections will serve to improve articles about Armenian fairy tales, including Habrmani and The Golden-Headed Fish.

Business Week 1984
Hello! I'm working on the article Atari 8-bit family. Who knows where to find online archives of Business Week magazine? From Business Week of May 21, 1984, there is allegedly this quotation: "Atari expect the new Lucasfilm software to stimulate sales of future games machines while tapping an existing market of 4 million owners of Atari's home computer and 5200 games machines". That's all the information I have. I have searched ProQuest and EBSCO on WP:LIBRARY but maybe I did it wrong. Thank you so much. — Smuckola(talk) 03:50, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Smuckola, I have access to this one; email me and I'll send you the PDF. Cheers, Extraordinary Writ (talk) 05:10, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Extraordinary Writ: Done. Thanks! And if anyone can let me know if there's an online source for Business Week, that'd be great! — Smuckola(talk) 08:52, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Smuckola:
Sent. The Internet Archive has coverage through 1961, but I'm not aware of an easy way to access anything after that, unfortunately: as far as I can tell, it's only available through this special EBSCO database, which the Wikipedia Library doesn't subscribe to. If you need any more BusinessWeek articles, feel free to leave a message here and one of us with access to the EBSCO database would be happy to send it to you. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 16:32, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Extraordinary Writ: Thanks. I googled and I can't find how to fill in the citation, like volume or issue, and I'm not sure whether ISSN is necessary because I rarely see it. This is a good magazine article to spread around citations into several Wikipedia articles. {{cite magazine | magazine=[[Bloomberg Businessweek|Businessweek]] | date=May 21, 1984 | title=Atari refuses to let the video game fad die | page=46 | volume= | issue= | issn= | publisher=[[McGraw Hill Education]]}} — Smuckola(talk) 02:38, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
- Looks good, Smuckola. The database tells me that this is issue no. 2843; there doesn't appear to be a volume number, so you can just leave that parameter blank. Including the ISSN (0007-7135) probably isn't a bad idea, although it's not required. You can also add

if you want to make clear where the article came from. Cheers, Extraordinary Writ (talk) 03:13, 8 August 2022 (UTC)- @Extraordinary Writ: You are truly a Writ among writs. Out of the ordinary, and possibly even mildly outrageous. Please let me know if I can assist you with anything. The source has been cited, long live Jambi. I sure wish WP:LIBRARY's GUI wasn't only a blatant giant zoo, though I know it is by benevolent necessity. I wish it at least had a single search box, even if I had to wait 30 minutes for results lol. I basically stick to trade magazines and newspapers, so I often must do countless redundant searches. The bare minimum is EBSCO, ProQuest, newspapers.com, Google Books, and sometimes Newspaper Archive. It's so overwhelming and I don't know how to determine the names of individual publications I can and can't search! I don't know what's included, to even answer the question of whether or not I've even searched BusinessWeek among all that lol. There are a ton of stupid meta-search checkboxes ahead of EBSCO and ProQuest alone and I can't imagine how it would be possible to ever understand what I'm even looking at or opting into before I've even input a keyword. Then it gives me a beautiful search result and soon times out and barfs it all on the floor so I can start it all over again. Am I baying into the wind along with other very smart very normal users or am I just a loser, baby? — Smuckola(talk) 07:38, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
- Smuckola, the WP:LIBRARY folks actually have been working on one search engine to rule them all—there's now a search bar at the top of https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/users/my_library/ that searches EBSCO, Gale, JSTOR, and a whole bunch of other databases. Unfortunately it doesn't yet include ProQuest, Newspapers.com, or Newspaper Archive, but at least it's better than nothing. I can certainly sympathize about how difficult it can be to find where (if anywhere) a publication is available. One trick on ProQuest is to click the "publications" tab, which lets you search by the name of the publication (for instance, searching "Los Angeles Times" shows you how to access the paper, while searching "BusinessWeek" brings up...nothing). I think EBSCO has a similar feature, although I'm not too familiar with it. And, of course, if there's anything you can't find, you're always welcome to pay us a visit here and someone will probably be able to put you on the right track. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 18:31, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
