DYK for 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent
On 13 July 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the US Mint released the 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent (pictured) on August 2, 1909, and discontinued it on August 5 because it showed the artist's initials? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Fischer quintuplets
Great expansion. I was wondering how newspaperarchive compares to newspapers.com. I just found out that I can access newspaperarchive through the Wikipedia Library. SL93 (talk) 15:13, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks, interesting article. You could probably write one on the Prietos as well.
- Newspaper archive seems to get more. I still want a photo in there and I believe we could use the 1963s. We should ask Gruban Bruxton (talk) 15:15, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
- GRuban Are the 1963 images at Talk:Fischer quintuplets#Some news about the Fischer quintuplets articles able to be used as free use images? SL93 (talk) 15:27, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hah! I was just looking for images for those, only to find out my Newspapers.com subscription had expired. Trying to get it renewed now. But I seem to be able to see these clippings links, can dig a little just from these... --GRuban (talk) 16:08, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
- @GRuban: cool, are we able to use the ap ones which are very clear? 1963 just need to see if a copy was renewed right? Bruxton (talk) 16:10, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
- Yes. Unfortunately it's hard to prove a negative, you need to search in https://cocatalog.loc.gov/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi for likely terms. If you find a hit, you can absolutely prove that it has been renewed, but if you don't, maybe you just didn't guess what words you needed to search for? So it has to be a "best effort" basis. "Fischer quintuplets" gets a few hits that are clearly not these photos, even "quintuplets" and "quints" get a reasonable of hits that can be sorted by date and looked through one by one (they're mostly oil paintings!), "Fischer" gets way too many hits to search through... give it your best shot, then mark it https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:PD-US-not_renewed. --GRuban (talk) 17:10, 14 July 2022 (UTC)

Hey there, I've been trying to fix something in the article you started but I edit conflicted with you. So maybe you can handle it. The designer's name isn't Yosheni. (That would be a super unusual Japanese personal name, and so unlikely that it is obviously an error.) His name was Yoshimi Kanemoto. If you want to cite that to a reliable source, check out Popular Science, "Automotive Newsfront: U-drive-it luggage", October 1992, Volume 241, Number 4, on pages 38-39, which you can find starting here, with the name specified on p. 39. Congrats on the DYK, by the way. Hope you keep up the good work! Indignant Flamingo (talk) 01:57, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of File:Richard Lorenz (artist).jpeg
The file File:Richard Lorenz (artist).jpeg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
This is some sort of enhanced/colored image that may not be representative of the subject. The original image is of much poorer quality. (Lorenz's identity is supported by the Encyclopedia of Milwaukee.)
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 17:37, 25 July 2022 (UTC)

- That'd be great – I usually like to release it on or slightly after the first of the month, so you've got at least a week. The format is pretty clearly defined from the previous ones – little intro, most-viewed hooks, policy/social events that started this month, random shtick, quality quirkies, and then sign it off. Be sure to use lots of thank yous, and do your best for whimsy and grace – nothin' to it, you'll do great :) theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/they) 23:58, 25 July 2022 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Diagalon
A tag has been placed on Diagalon requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from the article namespace to a different namespace except the Category, Template, Wikipedia, Help, or Portal namespaces.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Curbon7 (talk) 14:41, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Curbon7: hello, you should notify the article's creator. I only moved it to draft as part of NPP. Bruxton (talk) 14:44, 26 July 2022 (UTC)

I'm just letting you know that the two accounts who posted here recently, whose comments were removed, belong to the same LTA - I don't know why they're taking an interest in you, and I hope they leave you alone now that they've been noticed, but if any other new accounts appear and start leaving you unexpected messages, feel free to drop me a note. Cheers Girth Summit (blether) 17:22, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Girth Summit: Grrr. Thanks for the message, it seemed the first one just wanted help. I hope I have not angered anyone. Lately I am on NPP and I have had to make decisions that not everyone agrees with. Deletions and drafts and such. My content creation has slowed down now as a result. Bruxton (talk) 17:48, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
- I don't think you've angered anyone. One of the habits this person has is to find someone who they think will help them, and try to get them on-side in whatever it is they're doing - you probably just presented as being helpful, not a bad thing by any stretch.
- I used to do a lot of NPP - I got into doing that before I ever started writing articles. I find that I don't have much time for it now though - whenever I manage to drag myself away from SPI, I want to write my own stuff, not review other people's! My next project is to take Battle of Preston (1648) to FA, in the company of Gog the Mild - I just need to get a few drafts off my plate and block out some time to do it. Do you do GA reviews? We normally take an article to GAN before FAC, and you've just given me the most rigorous DYK review I think I've ever had :) - you might be the perfect person to find any issues with our prose/sourcing, if you're interested I could drop you a note when we're ready. Girth Summit (blether) 17:57, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Girth Summit: I have a few GAs but have not reviewed any yet so I may want to do it. My own GAs were extremely detailed and several took weeks. If I do it, I may pick a shorter one to start. I have never had a FA. Bruxton (talk) 18:05, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
- This one is unlikely to be short, so I understand if you want to start out your GA reviewing journey elsewhere. On the other hand, Gog has written fifty-odd FAs, he knows his way around the MOS and he tends to keep me honest when we write together, so there hopefully shouldn't be too much to object with when we're done. Your call - let me know if you'd like me to tell you when we nominate it, or not, no pressure at all. Girth Summit (blether) 18:10, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
- You're expecting me to write prose that will stand up to rigorous review?! Oh come on! Gog the Mild (talk) 18:16, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
- Now then Gog - it can't all be the old boys club over at FAC, we need some fresh blood in the article reviewing corps. Take a look at Earlstoun Castle's DYK nom - I was taken to task, but we made it through. Girth Summit (blether) 18:38, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
- Wah, ha, ha. Well, yes, but what with your habit of scattering commas randomly throughout an article and similar it is no less than I would expect. Er, I am going to get reviewed to that standard? Gulp! Gog the Mild (talk) 18:40, 26 July 2022 (UTC)

Tagging pages for deletion
Hello, Bruxton,
I was just looking at an article that you tagged with a PROD tag that was just untagged by another editor. I'd like to recommend that unless there are serious problems with a main space article (copyright violations, BLP violations, advertising, attack page, etc.), you don't tag a page for deletion the same day that it has been created. Unless an editor is experienced and has created an article in their Sandbox or Draft space and is just moving it over to main space, no new article will be perfect on the day that it appears. They are all flawed until the page creator, and other editors, have some time to improve sourcing and work on the content. Luckily, a PROD will allow a week's time for an article to improve before deletion is considered and anyone can remove a PROD tag so it has the least serious repercussions compared to Speedy Deletion. But it can be demoralizing for new editors to take the time to learn about Wikipedia and its policies, find an article subject that is worth spending time on only to have the page tagged for deletion on the day it is published.
Part of the job of New Page Patrollers is to weed out inappropriate content so I know that deletion tagging is part of what you do on Wikipedia. I'd just like to suggest that you have a better sense of the difference between an imperfect article and those that are damaging to the project or just total promotional BS. Perhaps rather than tagging an inadequate new article for deletion, a better decision might be to move it Draft space where it can be improved. This can be a better solution to pages that you might tag for notability concerns (CSD A7). If you don't know about it, User:Evad37/MoveToDraft is a great tool if you think a recently created article would be safer in Draft space and you'd like to move it there, the script even posts a notification to the page creator which is so important.
Any way, thanks for all of the work you do and congratulations on the barnstar! You deserve it! Liz Read! Talk! 22:57, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Liz: Hi, thank you for the message. I think I only placed one prod today and one yesterday. What article are we talking about? I am always careful to make sure to research the topics before a prod. Unfortunately I do not recall placing a prod where one was removed. The only one I can see with two prods is Guy Barker (politician)... but I was the first, and I discussed on the talk page of the article, after me, another editor prodded it. I just sent that one to AfD right now after seeing the second prod was removed. Bruxton (talk) 23:06, 28 July 2022 (UTC)

- I fixed the link to the regular season, it shows that the teams had the byes.
- I got rid of the word.
- I fixed the link to the regular season again, it shows that the two teams didn't have a bye.

New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022
Hello Bruxton,
- Backlog status
After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.
Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.
- Coordination
- MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
- Open letter to the WMF
- The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
- TIP - Reviewing by subject
- Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.
- New reviewers
- The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.
- Reminders
- Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
- If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing
{{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page. - If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
- To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
