Hi! I just wanted to apologize for undoing your edit on Gnawa Music. This sounds so fake, but I genuinely don't know how that happened - I think I accidentally clicked the undo button when I was trying to click the thank button, funnily enough. Thanks for changing it back, and thanks for your contribution to that article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Noahfgodard (talk • contribs) 04:15, 19 March 2020 (UTC)

Article needing copy edit but no tag
Hey Tdslk! Now that the drive is underway I'm thinking of clearing the backlog from the earliest entries again. What caught my eye was Gaza War (2008–2009), but I can't find the copyedit template anywhere on there. What should I do? —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 03:10, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Tenryuu. While the vast majority of our articles have a copy edit tag, the rarely used tag "awkward" also adds articles to the backlog. In this case, the tag was added after the sentence: "Hamas refrained from rocket fire at Israel for 14 months in accordance with its early-2005 undertaking, until IDF naval shelling hit a Gaza beach, all but wiping out a local Gazan family on 10 June 2006." My guess is that the editor didn't like the phrasing "all but wiping out." If you could figure out a way to rephrase that so it has a more encyclopedic tone, you can give yourself the credit for 36 words and 1 article. You might look at the cited article to see exactly how many members of the family were killed, and insert that information in place of the awkward phrase. Regards, Tdslk (talk) 03:20, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
Friendly Competition
Hi:
We both appear to be dealing with the editors on either side of a friendly competition. One, with whom you have been dealing, seems to have much better editing skills and perhaps "gets" the message that the editing comes first. The other's almost passive-aggressive responses to my suggestions etc...are pissing me off. I have made one more attempt to make the point; after that I have no idea what to do. He certainly should not be editing GOCE requests. We live in hope, I guess. Stay safe. Cheers Twofingered Typist (talk) 21:58, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
- Twofingered Typist, I agree with you, and I think you should take this to the coordinators page so we can have an official discussion. Regards, Tdslk (talk) 22:38, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
It really wasn’t a friendly competition. The other editor seemed to think it was, but it really wasn’t. I was just doing my thing. Stay safe and well, --Total Eclipse 2017 (talk) (Origin of the username) 17:17, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
Question about editing articles for GOCE drives
Hello, I was working on copy editing the Eutretauranosuchus article for the May 2020 Drive. I took a break for a couple of days and returned to see you had finished the copy edit. Would it be acceptable for me to also move the article from Working to Completed on my section of the Drive page? I am new to Wikipedia, so perhaps I am in a bit over my head participating in a drive at this point. Regardless, thank you for finishing the copy edit. I overestimated the work that needed to be done and thought the article was going to need to be largely rewritten. Airyairy (talk) 20:32, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Airyairy! Welcome to editing Wikipedia and to the Guild! My apologies for not noticing that you had been working on the article. Please go ahead and give yourself credit on the Drive page for having finished the article!
- There are two different ways members of the Guild can signal that they are working on an article. The first is to add the tag {{GOCE in use}} to the top of the page. Note that this should only be left up while you are actively editing a page, and is optional. I only use it when I am editing a very large page or one that is being currently (within the past few hours) edited by others. More practical in this case would be to remove the copy edit tag as soon as you start on the page. Then it would not be listed in the articles needing copy editing category. If you do this, be sure that you do finish editing the article. If you can't please add the tag back so that others can finish the job.
- In terms of the amount of work to be done, no article on Wikipedia is ever truly finished! If you can see ways to improve the article further, please make them! When we are working on articles from the backlog at the Guild, it's a gray area how much work should be done before we can remove the tag. We try as best we can to correct all spelling, formatting, and grammatical errors and reasonably improve the flow of the writing. In the case of Eutretauranosuchus, the article was a bit technical, and could still probably be improved to make it more accessible to readers, although there is only so much given the scientific subject matter. However, the writing, even before copy editing, was in better shape overall than average for articles with a copy edit tag. (For an example of a really rough article, check out, say, Thamarankottai.)
- Thanks again for your participation, and let me know if you have any further questions! Regards, Tdslk (talk) 00:34, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you, Tdslk, for your response. I wasn't sure when to remove the copy edit tag or when to use the {{GOCE in use}} tag. I did want to improve the flow and accessibility of Eutretauranosuchus more, but due to the paywalled nature of many of the sources, I couldn't help but feel an editor with a background in paleontology or a related field would be required for much of that task.
- I appreciate that you allowed me to take credit for the copy edit! I'll see what I can do about Thamarankottai if someone hasn't gotten to it first. Airyairy (talk) 22:02, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors June 2020 Newsletter
Hello and welcome to the June newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since March 2020. You can unsubscribe from our mailings at any time; see below. All times and dates stated are in UTC. Current events
Election time: Nomination of candidates in our mid-year Election of Coordinators opened on 1 June, and voting will take place from 00:01 on 16 June. GOCE coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. If you've thought about helping out at the Guild, or you know of another editor who would make a good coordinator, please consider standing for election or nominating them here. June Blitz: This blitz begins at 00:01 on 14 June and ends at 23:59 on 20 June, with themes of articles tagged for copyedit in May 2020 and requests. Drive and blitz reports
March Drive: Self-isolation from coronavirus may have played a hand in making this one of our most successful backlog elimination drives. The copy-editing backlog was reduced from 477 to a record low of 118 articles, a 75% reduction. The last four months of 2019 were cleared, reducing the backlog to three months. Fifty requests were also completed, and the total word count of copy-edited articles was 759,945. Of the 29 editors who signed up, 22 completed at least one copy edit. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. April Blitz: This blitz ran from 12 to 18 April with a theme of Indian military history. Of the 18 people who signed up, 14 copyedited at least one article. Participants claimed a total of 60 copyedits. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. May Drive: This event marked the 10th anniversary of the GOCE's copy-editing drives, and set a goal of diminishing the backlog to just one month of articles, as close to zero articles as possible. We achieved the goal of eliminating all articles that had been tagged prior to the start of the drive, for the first time in our history! Of the 51 editors who signed up, 43 copyedited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. Other news
Progress report: as of 2 June, GOCE participants had processed 328 requests since 1 January, which puts us on pace to exceed any previous year's number of requests. As of the end of the May drive, the backlog stood at just 156 articles, all tagged in May 2020. Outreach: To mark the 10th anniversary of our first Backlog Elimination Drive, The Signpost contributor and GOCE participant Puddleglum2.0 interviewed project coordinators and copy-editors for the journal's April WikiProject Report. The Drive and the current Election of Coordinators have also been covered in The Signpost's May News and Notes page. Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Jonesey95, Baffle gab1978, Reidgreg, Tdslk and Twofingered Typist. To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list.

WikiProject GOCE is under-construction at bnwiki!
Hello, Tdlsk bhai! It's me, Meghmollar2017, whom you helped in Paschimbhag copperplate inscription. You will be very happy to learn that Bengali Wikipedia has reached the milestone of 100,000 articles on 25 December. Now, we are planning to make the encyclopedia more admissible to the learners through GOCE (inspired by the enwiki project). But it is still under development. And I wish special help from you (if you are not busy) in this regard.
Today, I need your urgent help about the progress chart. I noticed the enwiki GOCE progress chart showing the number of articles. How are they counted? I need the articles in bnwiki to be counted by tomorrow, the last day of the year. Hope you can help. Regards. Meghmollar2017 • Talk • 13:54, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Meghmollar2017! It is really cool that Bengali Wikipedia is making a group like the GOCE! The number of articles in the progress chart comes from the number of articles that are in Category:All articles needing copy edit. This consists of all articles that have a copy edit tag. Does the Bengali Wikipedia have an equivalent tag? Tdslk (talk) 15:51, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
- We have both the template and the category. But both of them need to be modified. Thank you, bhai. :) Meghmollar2017 • Talk • 16:42, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
- Happy New Year and Happy New Decade! Thank you for the help. The system is working properly and the article number (198) is logged for the first time. May be, the articles are not tagged properly and thus the article count is very low. So we are planning to deliver the first newsletter by the first week of January informing users about the guild and its system. However, we are also planning to launch quality improvement branch as a part of the guild to destub the important (A rated) articles. Is there any association like this in enwiki? We also wish your valuable suggestion that we can follow as our system is under construction. Regards Meghmollar2017 • Talk • 02:37, 1 January 2021 (UTC)
- Wordcount: Hello! I had a question about Backlog Elimination Drives and Blitzes that is how the total wordcount is counted. Is it the whole "wordcount of an article (after copyediting)"? That would mean the bigger the article, the more your earnings! Meghmollar2017 • Talk • 14:09, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- You count the words before editing. And yes, the bigger the article, the higher the word count for the drive or blitz. More important than the word count, however, is doing a good job with the copy edit. We would rather see a great job on a short article than a poor job on a long article. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:00, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- I see! Thank you, @Jonesey95:. And congratulations to Tdslk bhai on the introduction into the GOCE Hall of Fame. You guys are awesome. :) Meghmollar2017 • Talk • 16:53, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

Congratulations on your induction into the Guild of Copy Editors Hall of Fame! Over the ten years of the guild's existence, just eight editors have been awarded this honor. You were nominated by Reidgreg, whose description of your contributions read as follows:
For long and distinguished service: ten years with the Guild and nine consecutive terms as Coordinator (since July 2016), quality copy-editing, gnomishly updating drive statistics, guiding new members, helping to keep this "favorite corner of the Wikipedia community" a drama-free zone, and so much more. I feel that it is more than warranted to recognize this dedication and nominate Tdslk to be inducted into the illustrious ranks of the GOCE Hall of Fame.

copy editing template
Can you take a look at the article Tove Meyer, if it is in good shape, then you can remove the copy edit tag. I have asked User:Utopes for help [1] but the user seem to be inactive. --Vannucci (talk) 09:34, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

June Blitz: From 20 to 26 June, 6 participating editors claimed 16 copy edits, focusing on requests and articles tagged in March and April. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. July Drive: Almost 575,000 words of articles were copy edited for this event. Of the 24 people who signed up, 18 copyedited at least one article. Final results and awards are listed here. August Blitz: From 15 to 21 August, we copy edited articles tagged in April and May 2021 and requests. 9 participating editors completed 17 copy edits on the blitz. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. Other news
June election: Jonesey95 was chosen to continue as lead coordinator, assisted by Dhtwiki, Tenryuu, and Miniapolis. New maintenance template added to our project scope: After a short discussion in June, we added {{cleanup tense}} to the list of maintenance templates that adds articles to the Guild's copy editing backlog categories. This change added 198 articles, spread over 97 months of backlog, to our queue. We processed all of those articles except for those from the three or four most recent months during the July backlog elimination drive (Here's a link to a "tense" discussion during the drive). Progress report: As of 18:26, 24 September 2021 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors have processed 468 requests since 1 January and there were 60 requests awaiting completion on the Requests page. The backlog of articles tagged for copy-editing stood at 433 (see monthly progress graph above). Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Jonesey95, Dhtwiki, Tenryuu, and Miniapolis. To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list.

It is with great sadness that we report the death on 19 November of Twofingered Typist, who was active with the Guild almost daily for the past several years. His contributions long exceeded the thresholds for the Guild's highest awards, and he had a hand in innumerable good and featured article promotions as a willing collaborator. Twofingered Typist also served as a Guild coordinator from July 2019 to June 2021. He is sorely missed by the Wikipedia community. Progress report: As of 30 November, GOCE copyeditors have completed 619 requests in 2021 and there were 51 requests awaiting completion on the Requests page. The backlog stood at 946 articles tagged for copy-editing (see monthly progress graph above).

Perhaps you would know how to find where a question like this would be answered. I know it's about a month old but I'm behind reading the Help Desk archives and I like to see if there's a way to answer questions that didn't get a response.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 21:57, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
- Hi @Vchimpanzee: I'm afraid I don't know. The focus of the question is about attributions for tools and whatnot, and I don't know much about that. Cheers, Tdslk (talk) 02:43, 23 December 2021 (UTC)
