My dad Bernard Toone has passed away and he does not have anyone listed on is Wilipedia as family. - @2601:5C1:8201:7010:D84F:EE1F:5AF7:D8C6: Sorry to hear about your dad. For his article, we can only add information that is properly sourced with independent coverage. Since you are related to him, you have what we call a conflict of interest, and we request that you not edit the article yourself. If you can identify a reliable source with the info you'd like to have added, you can put a connected edit request on the article's talk page. See Wikipedia:Simple conflict of interest edit request. Table
Hi, today I published my draft here. I made a table for its charts, but I'd like it to look more like the one here. Can you guys show me how to do this? I've been having difficulty implementing it without a direct copy-paste. —VersaceSpace 🌃 00:59, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
- @VersaceSpace I don't think you can do this using the visual editor - it still doesn't support adding custom CSS to tables. To get the custom shading in the first column you need to add
! scope="row"
before each cell containing the chart name. 192.76.8.85 (talk) 10:41, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
Date formatting in citations
When editing an article, sometimes when writing dates in citations as "2022-07-12" they appear as "12 July 2022" after publishing/inserting, other times it doesn't and just stays as "2022-07-12". Am I doing something wrong? Is it advisable to just write out dates instead? DannyC55 (Talk) 02:49, 13 July 2022 (UTC)

edits mysteriously undone
About a month ago I made several additions to the Wikipedia stub about myself (Andrew Carstairs-McCarthy). But I find today (13 July) that these changes have all disappeared; the article has reverted to the 'stub' version. Why? Damerell (talk) 03:37, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Damerell: If you check the page's history, your edits were undone because they were not cited when such information must be verifiable. I would also strongly suggest you refrain from writing about yourself, as it is very difficult to write neutrally on such a subject. Please use the article's talk page to make edit requests. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 04:15, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
Opening AfD
Are there guidelines or policies concerning the opening of an AfD for an article that you've previously opened AfDs for? Is it discouraged? Is there a recommend timeframe between when one should avoid opening a new AfD (i.e. wait a minimum of six months)? A few examples for me personally, might include Level 3 (TV series) which had no consensus (looks like maybe speedy re-nomination was an option but I didn't see the note at the time), MacBreak which had no consensus over a year ago, Trash Taste which had no consensus almost a year ago, or Bald Move which had the consensus to keep but I'm still very confident that the company doesn't pass WP:NCORP. TipsyElephant (talk) 14:23, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
- Policy only refers to a "reasonable amount of time", "to give editors time to improve the page". I would say six months is a good minimum, but it may depend on the specific article. 331dot (talk) 14:44, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
Need help
I had requested to undelete an article and request was accepted. I improved it, added content and gave references. I much improved it. Then some weeks ago I submitted it in AFC submition process. But still it isn't reviewed. I think so because it was deleted three times so it isn't being reviewed. But in real I improved it a lot and totally changed it. So someone please check why it isn't being reviewed. The name of article is Draft:Sahito.FAAHS (talk) 15:47, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
- Read the big notice at the top of Draft:Sahito. Bazza (talk) 15:52, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
- I took a quick look at this and declined the submission due to sourcing issues. Most of the sources are not reliable, and also do not support the prose they are cited for. Details were left at the draft. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 15:57, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
- @FAAHS: I also clicked on all the sources, and the word Sahito appears briefly in only two, with almost no context. Very little that you wrote is substantiated, as pointed out above. You will need better sourcing to demonstrate that this tribe is noteworthy. Please read WP:GNG. There are also distracting formatting issues, but those can wait until the content sourcing is improved. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 18:19, 13 July 2022 (UTC)

Question about 3RR policy
I proposed a policy change on Chinese Wikipedia recently: the original proposal on 3RR policy is "no limit on reverting unsourced and insufficiently sourced content" I proposed it to be both poorly sourced and violates BLP policy. A user disagree because they thought Wikipedia:Verifiability is also a policy. Somebody else brings the original text in English Wikipedia, which is also "Removing contentious material that is libelous, biased, unsourced, or poorly sourced according to Wikipedia's biographies of living persons (BLP) policy". Could someone explain to me which one is more reasonable to be a policy. QiuLiming1 (talk) 20:32, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
- sorry for the bad grammar. QiuLiming1 (talk) 20:33, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
- WP:V is a policy, not sure I understand what the conflict is. PRAXIDICAE🌈 20:36, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hello, QiuLiming1. You communicate just fine in English. Keep in mind that each language version of Wikipedia is an autonomous volunteer project that sets its own policies and guidelines through consensus. If Chinese editors want to get ideas from policy language here on English languags, that is fine. But in the end, the decision needs to be made by Chinese language Wikipedia editors. - WP:3RRNO outlines exactly what is exempt from 3RR. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 20:51, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
- So is there some reason to not revert poorly sourced material (non-BLP) more than 3 times? QiuLiming1 (talk) 20:53, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
- To avoid edit warring. If you find yourself in that situation there are plenty of avenues of dispute resolution available. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 20:56, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, the reason is that it is considered edit warring. WP:EW. In such cases, you should discuss on the talk page and if needed follow the guidance at WP:DR RudolfRed (talk) 20:57, 13 July 2022 (UTC)

The tool located here Wikipedia:How to make a redirect - Wikipedia is not properly responding to make a redirect, instead it just says that page does not exist and if you want to create a new page. I gave in and said yes make new page then followed the directions here Wikipedia:Redirect - Wikipedia which says to only put the following on the page #REDIRECT [[target page name here]] but fill in the bracket area with the name you want redirected, however then it just creates a regular page under review

revert an article to previous version
hello, i want to revert an article to its previous version, how do i do that? InfiniteSword (talk) 05:02, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
- I am not very experienced neither, but I usually just copy and paste the source or use WP:Twinkle. QiuLiming1 (talk) 05:27, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
- @InfiniteSword:To revert to a previous version, go to the article's history and click on the version your wish to revert to. This will display it. you can then click the "restore this version" in the "this is an old version" box at teh top of the displayes article. Please make sure you really want to do this: all the later edits will no longer be there. Also make sure to leave a meaningful edit summary to explain why you did this. -Arch dude (talk) 05:36, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
- @InfiniteSword:But if you just want to undo the most recent edit, go to the article's history and click on the "undo" at the end of the most recent history entry. Again, please explain using a meaningful edit summary. -Arch dude (talk) 05:40, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
- thanks arch dude! i will make sure to only revert articles when actually necessary and provide a reason in edit summary InfiniteSword (talk) 09:31, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
Would it be a good general idea to convert "audio" templates to "listen" templates?
Here's an example using the template {{audio}}:
Here's the same thing using {{listen}} instead:
The first example has a link which says "play", but it's irritating because it doesn't. For reasons explained at Help:Media (MIDI), it will download the midi file to your machine instead, which will then play when located and opened if the machine is set up to play midi, which Windows computers typically aren't. Android seems able to play midi files by default, but it's still annoying to leave the browser to do so. If you click on "info", that leads to a page with the file embedded a third way, using [[File:]], which works like {{listen}} without the decorations. I guess an argument could be made about server load, but other than that it seems to me really bad to present these frustrating non-functional links to the reader. I think the {{audio}} template is just out of date (by ten or twenty years). Card Zero (talk) 10:49, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Card Zero:I suggest you start a discussion on the talk page of {{audio}}, and add a pointer to your discussion at the talk page of {{listen}}. The folks who are watching those pages, if any, will be your best source of informed opinions. After a week or so, If nobody comments, change a few of the pages that use {{audio}} and wait another week or so to see if anyone objects. -Arch dude (talk) 20:08, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks, that sounds like a plan. I see the audio template talk page already has a relevant section, "What to do with MIDIs?" from 2019, with no replies. (Hi User:Nardog.) Card Zero (talk) 21:56, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
Use of Wikipedia text content

That redirected article did not have any references to reliable, independent sources that devote significant coverage to this political party at the state level. The two references were to a voter registration number database, which is not significant coverage, and to the party's own web page about Will Hyman, which is not an independent source. Accordingly, you appear to have a Conflict of interest which you should disclose, and should edit very cautiously. Under these circumstances, the redirect was correct. Reverting to a previous version
Hi there. I looked up someone recently who is deceased but who I knew fairly well. Recently someone has gone in to his list and made quite unkind edits, for example commenting on the person's hygiene and calling him a charlatan amongst other insults. I'm all for critique but not for meanness! Is there an easy way to put it back to its previous version? Many thanks. Emily 107.2.26.67 (talk) 20:32, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, that can easily be done. Either we can explain to you how to do it yourself (which may not be that easy for someone with no editing experience); or you can specify who the person is, either in public here, or by going to my user page and clicking "Email this user". Maproom (talk) 20:48, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
- Yes. Go to the page in question and click the "View History" button above the top of the article. From there, locate the offending edit. If it's gone unfixed so far, it's probably at the top of the list. If there is just a single vandalism edit, press "Undo" on the edit and publish your changes. For multiple vandalism edits in a row, find the last good version and select it by clicking the date and time of the edit. Then, review the page to ensure it is the right version and press "Restore this version" at the top of the page. See Help:Reverting for more information. your impact
hi,
for some reason the numbers on my "your impact" page keep changing radically, and some articles will disappear completely from the list even though they were at the top and my edit wasn't reverted. can anyone explain why? InfiniteSword (talk) 02:38, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
