I am not a coder so I can't implement the changes to the file https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:MeanMonthlyP.gif myself.
No one has done it. You said it would be easy. Would it be so easy that a nonprogrammer could do it? If so, would you be willing to teach me how? Do you agree with me that it should be done? Arctic Gazelle (talk) 19:55, 2 February 2021 (UTC)
- It would be easy to do for someone who has, and knows how to use, the right software. I don't. You could try asking at Wikipedia:Graphics Lab/Map workshop. Maproom (talk) 07:35, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
Question from Phoenix7119
Hi Maproom. I'm new to Wikipedia and the Teahouse and I saw your name listed as a Teahouse Host. So, I read your articles on Andras Bereznay, Karl Spruner von Merz and Robert Schimke. They're beautifully written! When you have a moment, would you please read my article on Wallace Rasmussen? I would certainly appreciate your feedback. Thank you for your time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Wallace_Rasmussen Phoenix7119 (talk) 03:18, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Phoenix7119. I'm impressed. I'm not a reviewer, but I expect the draft would be accepted if submitted for review.
- There's an overall promotional tone, which a reviewer may dislike. For instance, the lead uses the phrase "rose to the top" twice.
- The second paragraph of the "Reputation as a no-nonsense businessman" section says that he "forced the resignation of his successor". This seems implausible – perhaps you meant "predecessor". There's no mention of the incident in ref. 2, which is cited in support of the statement.
- Sources 1 and 7 are not independent, 1 being written by Rasmussen and 7 based on an interview with him. It woud be better to make less use of these.
- I haven't read the other sources. But Rasmussen clearly made enemies, so it ought to be possible to find sources on which to base a more balanced, less promotional article. Even source 7 states that Beatrice changed its retirement policy to force him out, something that's not mentioned in the draft. Maproom (talk) 09:39, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi Maproom. Thanks so much for answering my questions. You've been very helpful. By the way, my draft was accepted! Obviously, I need to make additional edits, so I'll keep your suggestions in mind. Yes, I guess my tone could seem "promotional." I tend to search for the good in people, even when there is little to find:) So, I'll be careful. Also, Rasmussen did force the resignation of his successor. Management had already chosen the gentleman and Rasmussen forced him out. Is that not the most outrageous thing? I guess I need to explain that a little better in my article. Thanks again for your time. As I said before, I really like your style of writing. So, just know that I'll be reading your articles and stopping by from time to time. Take good care of yourself. Happy to meet you. Phoenix7119 (talk) 13:16, 7 February 2021 (UTC)

Question
I had left a paragraph concerning an exchange you and I both had with a certain user in the Jean de Montagu talk page that was unseemly at best, and recent editing behavior concerning that individual. Well it turns out a wrong link from another article to a family member of that bio article seems to have confused them and might explain some otherwise very questionable editing (this is what happens when people try to dig deep into historical subjects in languages they don't speak). I have repaired the links and information and hopefully these articles will be left somewhat intact. Thank you for reading and contributing to these articles.

Edit war with User:Superinformative
I'm not intentionally engaging edit war with Superinformative, but I'm approaching to the fact and assuming good faith. As I told in the article's talk page, Ethiopia was not colonized, but Fascist Italians led by Benito Mussolini conquered the country while annexing its neighbors in the Horn of Africa. They formed a new government called Italian East Africa ruled from 1936 to 1941. Italians were defeated by Allied power British Empire during East African campaign in World War II. This is the fact and people born between 1936 and 1941, their birthplace and country name should be written by contemporary official name of that country. I'm pointing for that, not engaging serious conflict. But Superinformative continues to disavow this idea and mistakenly stated it is "vandalism". Tilahun was born at the time of Italian rule between 1936 to 1941 in 1940. The Ethiopian Empire was restored in 1941. The Supermind (talk) 15:07, 13 August 2021 (UTC)
- The Supermind, you don't need to explain the issues to me, I've already looked at Tilahun Gessesse's edit history, and at its talk page. I agree with you on all points, except that Superinformative's action are not serious enough to consider a block. Maproom (talk) 15:28, 13 August 2021 (UTC)
Misinformation
Italy when occupying Ethiopia never established a government it established a military occupation which was getting bombed in Ethiopia. A government as you say was established in Ethiopia is a false concept. The reason why i say you are mistaken is that no department or ministry was established that had powers to arrest and control and pass laws on Ethiopians which affected the country. Italy only established military occupation never established a ministry or a government department which had fully settled in Ethiopia and could easily control the public. You could easily say A long standing or at least for the time period entity that could arrest people fine people and the majority of the people obeyed that would be a government. If an occupying force that is in a war zone that had little control in the less populated cities but had none control in the country side which at that time over 2/3 of the country lives in what's a point if they decree a decree which they can't assert as being legally contested by the league of nations member sovereign territory. A government that wasn't established is not a government but a claim with no back bone. Because of these facts in my good heart and looking in depth to the facts i wish i really wish you block this user at least from editing this page for 72 hours. I see this as a useless fight a fight i don't want to get in i don't want to get in edit wars at all i want to tell the truth and i really hope you could understand me. Thank you very much.
- Superinformative, The Supermind: could you please both discuss the issue in the appropriate place, which is Talk:Tilahun Gessesse, rather than here. I have no interest in or knowledge about the subject. The article's talk page may be read by other editors who can usefully contribute to a discussion. Maproom (talk) 19:28, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

RexxS
Did you hear something about RexxS's health that I missed? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:08, 26 November 2021 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt, While reading stuff about the ongoing Arbcom election, I learned that he has Covid. I may have misunderstood something; or it may have been from weeks ago. Maproom (talk) 17:25, 26 November 2021 (UTC)
- I first met RexxS at a Wikipedians meetup in Oxford. In the course of the meetup, we disagreed about something, some point of fact. We each thought the other was mistaken, no more than that.
- At the next meetup, as soon as I came into the pub, he came over to me and insisted on buying me a pint, as an apology for having argued. I'd forgotten about the disagreement and assured him there was nothing to apologise for; but he insisted on buying me a pint anyway. It's very sad that a guy like that can be de-sysoped for being argumentative, abusive, or whatever the charge was. Wikipedia has been losing too many good, competent, productive admins. (And it has a demotivating effect on ordinary little guys like me - I had thought I was working in an open democratic community, but when I see productive people like RexxS, that I admire and respect, disappeared without a convincing explanation, it has a Kafka-esque effect.) Maproom (talk) 17:25, 26 November 2021 (UTC)
- I agree with all this, but he had overcome the COVID before the arbcom case began. After my one and only arbcom case, I quoted Kafka, in 2013. (I also had helped to write that article, DYK?) Now, I asked all candidates about it, and voted accordingly. More background: User talk:Hammersoft where he had the final word. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:35, 26 November 2021 (UTC)

Your contributions to Clara Egger's english page
Draft:Clara_Egger
Thank you Maproom for your help to improve this translation article.
I would prefer the name to be shown entirely (Clara Egger) rather than just the surname (Egger), though. For the time being, I'll just let you choose, as you are much more experienced than me on en.wikipedia.org :-) But if you want to know my preference, it is with Mrs Egger's full name (Clara Egger). Features for new users coming soon (and mentors, like you, wanted!)
Hello. As you're currently listed as a host at the Teahouse, I wanted to make sure you're aware of the imminent rollout of new Growth Team Features which every new account will be getting by default. Each users will soon see a new 'Homepage' tab next to their User page. It contains two main elements which might impact on your involvement - and you'd be welcome to get involved and help out directly with one of them.
- Firstly, they will be offered a range of 'suggested edits', and encouraged to make simple improvements to pages that interest them. (Being aware of this feature would be helpful for all Teahouse hosts if you're likely to offer advice on tasks for them to start out doing.)
- There's also a 'Your impact' box to show them how many people have seen the pages they've just edited.
- Finally, each new user is randomly assigned a 'mentor' from a list of friendly, experienced editors, like yourself. If they get stuck, they can ask a question directly to them via a Your mentor box, and hopefully get a swift, friendly answer from that mentor. Currently, this feature is given to 2% of new users, but it's set to increase to around 10% in the very near future.
To spread the load on our current list of around 65 mentors, I'm reaching out to ask if you'd like to help out and sign up as one? The workload is relatively small; User Panini! reports receiving four questions a month, on average, all of which were simple ones of the type we already get at the Teahouse, whilst I've had just one in the last 3 weeks. To view a list of every question asked of all mentors over the last 14 days, click here.
If becoming a mentor and being available to help new users on their first few days here interests you - just as you already do at the Teahouse - then please consider signing up at Growth Team features/Mentor list. Existing users can already 'opt-in' to seeing the Newcomer Homepage features via their Preferences.

- Hi, P.V.Mkhaliphi, and welcome to Wikipedia. I see from your list of contributions that you have not yet made any edit to a WIkipedia article. I get the impression from your contributions that you have come here to chat, and ask questions, rather than help to improve Wikipedia. Maybe you have mistaken Wikipedia for a social media platform? Many people make that mistake.
