A Mall Train or Kiddie train is an attraction resembling a small train that is trackless.
Trackless trains
Trackless trains are popular.[1] Wattman trains have Wheels In Motion rotate at variable speeds and in tandem with the speed of the train just like a real train. These trains can be found in amusement parks, family entertainment centers, zoos, amusement rentals, city parks, and many other locations.[2] Such trains are widely modeled after steam locomotives used during the mid-1800s. Almost all trackless trains are powered with a battery pack. A major manufacturer is Wattman Trains & Trams Inc.[3] from Canada, the pioneering company which introduced the concept of mall trains.
Track Trains
These trains move on tracks. They are more popular at amusement parks. However, some have been at malls. These trains are not to be mistaken for Live Steam, as they are powered by either electricity or internal combustion engines.
In popular culture
In season 14 episode 18 of the series Family Guy, One of the protagonists, Peter Griffin, rides a train with tracks in the mall. Peter ends up pushing the control lever too far and ends up going at dangerous speed around a circular track, and ends up hurt.
