Logo is above the threshold of originality. I could also find no evidence that the Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute has released it to the public domain. However, the logo was created around 1936 and may be in public domain for other reasons. Putting it here for discussion. Ixfd64 (talk) 23:38, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
- Keep I can't find anything in the copyright registry for it. Since it was created pre-1989, it's PD because it wasn't registered (that's independent of any trademark issues). Buffs (talk) 18:09, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
- That analysis assumes a US work. This is crest for a Canadian high school. Per c:Commons:Hirtle chart, the applicable section would be "Works First Published Outside the U.S. by citizens of foreign nations", and would fall into one of the "Works Published Abroad Before 1978" sections. Fist publication would be in Canada, and there is no evidence to suggest any compliance with US copyright registrations. The school is part of a public school board which means this image may be under Crown copyright. For most works, this means 50 years after publication, but this is a crest. See Crown copyright#Canada where some items are extended beyond 50 years "to control symbols used to identify the Crown and its agents". I do not know of this is case for this crest, but it is not a clear keep as PD. It is usable as non-free content so the safest option would be to relicense as non-free.
