Requests for page protection | ||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
This page is for requesting that a page, file or template be protected. Please read up on the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used only to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, the protection is listed in the page history and logs with a short description indicating why it was protected, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. Further discussion should take place on the Talk page of the article. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins do not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism. Note: Editors should not consider requesting page protection as a method for continuing an argument from elsewhere nor as a venue for starting a new discussion regarding article content. If a request contains excessive argument, appears to be intended to resolve a content dispute, includes personal attacks or uncivil comments, or has any other unrelated discussion, it will be removed from this page and no action will be taken.

Extended confirmed protection: Persistent vandalism – Constant low levels of vandalism on BLP article - previous protection expired and it picked right back up. ECP or Pending Changes would be helpful in keeping this at bay. Tony Fox (arf!) 15:45, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
- Why ECP? Pending-changes is the lowest form of protection (semi-protection is actually higher). It doesn't relate to anything highly controversial or any ongoing wars, conflicts or disputes (which is one of the reasons why many articles relating to the Middle East, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Russia, Belarus and North Africa are protected). - The Looney Tunes Show (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Reason: Continued disruption by anon who cannot respect the consensus discussed at WT:TV that the end date should be when the last previously unaired episode first aired internationally, not when the episode, which had been skipped in the US, finally aired there during a rerun of the series. oknazevad (talk) 17:33, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
Hank Green
- Hank Green (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent IP vandalism (removing valid URL). ZimZalaBim talk 21:02, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
- I'm now involved, but I'd say this should be declined for two reasons: This wasn't vandalism, and it was a reasonable removal of a dead URL from the infobox of the no-longer-existing article subject. ZimZalaBim, perhaps you could simply withdraw this request by saying so in response to this message. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 22:11, 5 July 2022 (UTC)

PBS Kids
Reason: Pending changes Block is undergoing a re-branding in mid-month and although we do have indef semi-protection, children's channels rebranding or closing seemingly always are vandalism/hoax targets at that point (see this past example from Qubo, for instance). Yves Nyami
- Yves Nyami (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Reason: There is a well sourced article at Yves Nyami (footballer) which should be moved here. Inwind (talk) 09:24, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Wugapodes and Number 57: Looking through the logs, it appears that it was salted due to repeated recreations of a page that was declined by AfC review. I am inclined to unprotect, given that the repeated draftifications and its accompanying protection seem to be against WP:DRAFTOBJECT. Sdrqaz (talk) 01:23, 1 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Sdrqaz: no objection here. Imo, salting just means "don't create without running it past some admin" so always feel free to undo my saltings if you think it no longer is needed. Thanks for the heads up though. — Wug·a·po·des 01:48, 1 July 2022 (UTC)
- I think given the efforts made to get the original article published, I strongly suspect the new article is a paid-for one (looking at the creator's talk page, the issue of COI and paid editing has been raised on multiple occasions). The subject fails the old NFOOTBALL notability guideline and I am not convinced the new article passes GNG (most of the references are databases). Number 57 08:03, 1 July 2022 (UTC)
- Perhaps Yves Nyami (footballer) should be taken to AfD, and if it survives, then it can be moved to Yves Nyami. —ScottyWong— 21:20, 2 July 2022 (UTC)

Talk:Gamergate (harassment campaign)
- Talk:Gamergate (harassment campaign) (edit | subject | history | links | watch | logs)
Please add the following comment to the recent move request.
- Comment: Some users such as GorillaWarfare claimed that harassment campaign is not the primary topic. However, harassment campaign page has 10x more views compared to ant page. It also has educational value, because it teaches us about the misogynistic deeds other people committed and shows us how to take lessons from it. All these evidence indicate that harassment campaign is the primary topic. Accordingly, I disagree with their opinion. Madame Necker (talk) 23:08, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
- Bluntly speaking, this argument is like to do far more harm than good to your position. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v a little blue Bori 23:09, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
- Okay, I will modify my argument. Madame Necker (talk) 23:11, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
- To be more specific, the "more pageviews" argument is a good one. It's the "It also has educational value..." sentence that would be the problematic bit, as that sounds like your goal is to use the article for some sort of advocacy. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v a little blue Bori 23:12, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for the advice. I will change and repost it. Madame Necker (talk) 23:14, 3 July 2022 (UTC)

Please add the following comment to the recent move request.
- Comment: Some users such as GorillaWarfare claimed that harassment campaign is not the primary topic. However, harassment campaign page has 10x more views compared to ant page. Aquillion pointed out that move might cause problems with recentism. However, WP:DPT states that "...historical age is not determinative" when identifying the primary topic. I also think that the general audience would be more interested in the internet campaign compared to the ant species, which would attract the specific audience of biology enthusiasts. Ant species has more educational value compared to the internet campaign, but I think the other factors —particularly overwhelmingly more pageviews and appeal to general audience— outweigh it. Accordingly, I disagree with their opinion.--Madame Necker (talk) 23:29, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
