Justification for WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for Mount Royal station
Hello,
I am not interested in perpetuating the notion that this is some kind of personal dispute, but since you moved the Mount Royal Station article back away from the disambiguation, I would like to point out that there is a very clear case that it is not the primary topic. Mont-Royal station (Montreal Metro) is a transit station named for Mount Royal in Quebec, which is already the primary topic for the place name "Mount Royal" due to its notability, despite the existence of other places in Quebec named Mount Royal. Mont-Royal station (Montreal Metro) is linked 95 times elsewhere on English Wikipedia and has been translated into multiple languages, whereas Mount Royal Station (Baltimore) has not been mentioned outside of English Wikipedia and has been linked 69 times elsewhere. (If we're being generous here - many of the pages that link the Baltimore one are just various User pages and the like.)
Mount Royal Station (Baltimore) is a defunct station which essentially primary functions as a university building for Maryland Institute College of Art. I do not see why it should remain the primary topic when it is a) the only Mount Royal Station article that is not currently a functioning train station and b) not the article related to the existing primary topic for Mount Royal. I could maybe see a justification for making the Quebecois station being the primary topic, but given that this would require a redirect to the French-language common name, that would also be potentially confusing.
It won't be a simple move now, but I will be going through the process to get it changed back. I don't make "bold" edits for changes unless I am 100% sure of them, and I think this case is as clear cut as it gets. --Middle river exports (talk) 21:00, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
- Actually, upon further consideration - it should not be moved back to Mount Royal Station (Baltimore and Ohio Railroad) either. It is not just a former train station, it is currently a university building. (See [1].) It should be Mount Royal Station (Maryland Institute College of Art). This is in line with University Hall (Brown University) and Convocation Hall (University of Toronto), other university buildings with ambiguous names. --Middle river exports (talk) 21:19, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Middle river exports: How about finding consensus on the talkpage before moving articles? It would save you and everybody else some trouble. Acroterion (talk) 21:57, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
- See WP:BOLD: "Fix it yourself instead of just talking about it. If you notice an unambiguous error or problem that any reasonable person would recommend fixing, the best course of action may be to be bold and fix it yourself rather than bringing it to someone's attention in the form of a comment or complaint. In the time it takes to write about the problem, you could instead improve the encyclopedia." Per Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle, discussing the change after the fact in this case is not even required, although it is merited in this case since it was explicitly brought to my attention. If you can provide a justification as to why Mount Royal Station (Baltimore historical landmark) is the primary topic, feel free to make that argument, as I am open to discussion if there is a compelling basis for it. I would say that any trouble this caused could have been prevented by evaluating the basis for WP:PRIMARYTOPIC here, and reading my edit summary which made the justification as clear as if it were on the talk page. --Middle river exports (talk) 22:23, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
- The complaint about breaking redirects is somewhat valid, and I have now at least fixed the redirect on the most relevant articles, templates, and modules. The existing wikimedia infrastructure is quite good about handling this sort of change at this point though, and the fact that relevant topics should still be tied to the same location through the relevant Wikidata item should help smooth over some of the disruption that comes with disambiguating pages. Note that in this case, most existing links were simply from a handful of template transclusions. --Middle river exports (talk) 22:25, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
- I'm aware of WP:BOLD, thank you. However, having had your move contested, you are expecved to open a discussion, not just try something else. Acroterion (talk) 22:47, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
- Is this not a discussion? You are free to participate in it. The person who reverts a change is expected to have a justification other than ad hominem. You can't just contest edits just because you disagree with WP:BOLD. --Middle river exports (talk) 22:53, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Middle river exports I think you misunderstand BRD. Under BRD, you made a move (B), it was contested (R), and there should be a discussion (D). What you've done is made more moves while also posting on my talk page, which is not to be confused with the article talk page. Frankly, this is disruptive. Please put everything back where it was and open a move discussion. Mackensen (talk) 22:58, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
- There is no reason to fill up an article talk page with discussion about an uncontroversial move; likewise you may have forgotten that you started the discussion of this move on user talk pages, not on the article talk page. You are free to open up a move discussion or start a discussion on the article talk page if you believe there is a reason to do so. If you aren't that invested in this topic you are also free to abstain from discussion. --Middle river exports (talk) 23:06, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
- By definition the move is controversial; I think the B&O station is the primary topic and shouldn't have been moved. I'm not obliged to start the discussion inasmuch as I think the status quo was acceptable though I'm open to being convinced otherwise. You started the BRD process. You were reverted. You're now move-warring. Mackensen (talk) 23:10, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
- I've moved the article back to Mount Royal Station. I've made no other changes. I look forward to the requested move process. Mackensen (talk) 23:39, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
- "I think the B&O station is the primary topic and shouldn't have been moved. I'm not obliged to start the discussion"
- You do have to give a reason, or address my points, which you haven't. I did provide multiple points as to why it is not the primary topic, maybe you did not read them or forgot them. I will start a discussion since you are unwilling, but it was your prerogative to do so in this case just to set the record perfectly straight. --Middle river exports (talk) 23:43, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Requested_moves/Technical_requests#Contested_technical_requests Linking as a formality, although your disinterest in the discussion was heard and I will cease user talk page posting at this point. Middle river exports (talk) 23:54, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
- I'll address them in due course during the subsequent requested move discussion. At this stage it's enough that I don't think it should be done without a move discussion with broader participation. Mackensen (talk) 00:06, 5 May 2022 (UTC)

Delaware and Hudson Railway
Hello Mackensen, yes, I indeed believe that the sequential unsourced edits on the Delaware and Hudson Railway are the work of blocked user 16ConcordeSSC (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) who returns under various ISPs. (Under an apparent real name in a now-abandoned account this editor has been on Wikipedia since 2007.) This is a WP:HIGHMAINTENANCE editor who has made good gramatical edits but also adds substantial unsourced content to railroad-related articles. In talk page comments such as this the editor describes reversions of his unsourced content as "vandalism" and demands an arbitrator. Quite a pity as the knowledge and interest is there but to date there is no indication of him being willing to provide sourcing or to work in consensus. Blue Riband► 16:47, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
- Understood and thanks for the follow-up. Not an isolated case, unfortunately. Mackensen (talk) 18:15, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
I regret my comment, and am quite willing to work on facts-alone. Most of my edits are 6/2021-on. (The few “nasty” ones, from 2007 or pre-2021, were posted when I couldn’t even find a “Talk” mode and used the article sites themselves to complain about “censorship” by unknown editors,) Do not have precise Shaughnessy page handy(his death is a HUGE loss), but a fast Google search will readily give you the correct dates of 1/24/63 south and 1/25/63 back to Albany. In the interest of accuracy, kindly:
(a)Replace “early 1963” with the two specific dates; and (b)Let’s stop name-calling both ways, for the site’s benefit.
Thank you.
Donald L. Pevsner Attorney-at-Law Railroad Preservationist (Ulster and Delaware Railroad; Walkway Over The Hudson (NYNH&H Poughkeepsie Bridge); Portion of Wallkill Valley Railroad; et al.). 174.212.99.253 (talk) 02:33, 14 May 2022 (UTC)
Mr. Mackensen:
If you agree with the above approach, would you be willing to make a very few, very minor (as in one-word) changes to 3 other sites that I am still blocked on? Goal: to replace wrong text with right text.
Please advise, and thanks. -DLP/ 174.212.99.253 (talk) 02:40, 14 May 2022 (UTC)
I of course like to see the D&H article improved, although by asking me to make them on your behalf you place me in an awkward position, given that (as I understand it) you were blocked indefinitely for personal attacks (see WP:BANREVERT). The usual way to get unblocked is some variation of Wikipedia:Standard offer, making the request from your current account (16ConcordeSSC). That you've continued to evade the block by editing as an unregistered account, including casting aspersions on other editors, means that any such request would be rejected out of hand. I appreciate that you regret your comments and I thank you for that. Editing on Wikipedia requires empathy, patience, and suffering perceived fools gladly. My advice is to put Wikipedia out of your mind for a few months, and when you return, request unblock under that account under the conditions of the standard offer, making all appropriate apologies. I would be prepared to support unblocking under those conditions and would accept some responsibility for your conduct. Best, Mackensen (talk) 13:09, 14 May 2022 (UTC)
Dear Mackensen:
With all due respect, I have apologized enough. I do not like nor admire “Star Chamber”-like cabals who relish punishing their designated transgressors (“HMUSERS” is a great insider allegation tool that I never heard of before), but my anger came simply from not knowing how to reply under “Talk” since 6/2021, rather than being arrogant, as previously stated. I also refuse EVER to kiss anyone’s ass in order to restore favor with my self-appointed punishers. If this means that I cannot correct the careless postings of others on 3-5 sites, so what? (Except that it pisses me off that you yourself, knowing the true data on this one D&H site, refuse to do it yourself to maximize the site itself, which logically OUGHT to be your and all other editors’ paramount goal.
If I were you, I would also question the “Wikipedia system” myself, rather than parroting its alleged dictates.
Thank you for writing me in a positive tone, which is a welcome change from all of the full-timers with 100,000-odd edits each and 15 years’ editing, who take pride in lording it over their perceived inferiors (like me) and, as a result, ruin the site itself per se. One of these “Editing Gods” should have offered to walk me through how I could put at least put my “deletion grievances” into the private “Talk” format, as I had no idea of how to source ANYTHING for at least 6 months: I used “minor edit” instead, as that is what I guessed without input what I was supposed to do!
-Donald L. Pevsner- 174.212.99.253 (talk) 00:06, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
- I believe the D&H article now more accurately describes the end of passenger service there, though I cannot afford to devote more time at present. My offer to assist you still stands as I've described. Please reflect on what I said about working with perceived fools. Wikipedia is a collaborative environment, and like any collaborative enterprise values those who have devoted more time and energy to its continuation. In my experience most non-profits function that way and there's nothing especially nefarious about it. Mackensen (talk) 00:20, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
A brief P.S.: I must confess that I have NEVER “suffered fools gladly”. This, on reflection, is why I got so angry when “editors unknown” arbitrarily deleted edits that I had worked hard on, with many decades of first-hand knowledge, and whom I knew no way to contact directly (as I do now with you,11 months later) in order to discuss. Again, no one told me one word about “Talk”, so I raised hell on the site itself by default. With “20/20 hindsight” as of today, I do indeed regret this, as otherwise I would never have alienated ANY other editor. 174.212.99.253 (talk) 00:22, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
(1)My last email crossed with your reply.
(2)Your correction is welcomed, particularly under the present circumstances. To be accurate, however, the dates should read:
“January 24-25, 1963”
( the last train overnighted in Binghamton and returned the following day)
(3)To advise you how minor the several remaining corrections are and their four sites, here they are:
(a)Rutland Railway site:
In text on abandoning Chatham Division south of North Bennington, VT, change “during the early 1950’s” to “1953”.
(b)In Kingston New York Railroad Stations (scroll halfway down the site list page) change on the early list of the four stations, for the last of the four:
“New York, Ontario and Western Railway Station”.
(c)In Wallkill Valley Railroad site, scroll to photo at very bottom, and change last caption word from “Rail” to “Railroad”.
(d)Go to PRR GG1 site; Scroll down to GG1 #4909; Add words to caption in Parentheses as follows:
“ (sold to The Henry Ford Museum of Dearborn, Michigan in 2008; deeded back to the Leatherstocking Chapter Museum by the Henry Ford Museum as a gift on January 17, 2022, as a gift. REASON: The only connecting railroad, Norfolk Southern Railway, ultimately refused to move it from Cooperstown Junction, New York to Dearborn, citing alleged “clearance issues” at its Harrisburg, PA junction and the locomotive’s 475,000-pound weight.”)
I could not source an online source for thus, which is taken from my own phone chat with Henry Ford Museum Chief Curator, Marc Greuther, who signed the deed for the Ford Museum himself (!). Also confined by the President of the Leatherstocking Chapter-NRHS, by personal chat but no online source; this is Bruce E. Hodges, of Oneonta, NY who personally bough the engine from Conrail in 1979, for $30,000. Talk about “first-hand sources”! However, I got deleted and then blocked by a “Wikipurist” editor: same-old, same-old. What is more important, after all: the FORMAT/Rules or the TRUE FACTS, when in conflict? For God’s sake! (Can you please take this vital scenario/issue right up to Jimmy Wales for resolution, as it is vitally important to solve it.) 174.212.99.253 (talk) 01:00, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
Typos under GG1 section in last email:
(1)Used “as a gift” twice in one sententence.
(2)”confirmed by”, not “confinedby”.
(3)”bought”, not “bough”. 174.212.99.253 (talk) 01:12, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
(4)”source an online source for this”.
Yes, I am a perfectionist as to both accurate and clean copy. I wrote a nationally-syndicated weekly newspaper column for 15+ million Sunday readers (Universal Press Syndicate, “Travel Wise”) for four years 1984-1988, and was a pro at journalism well before that. 174.212.99.253 (talk) 01:18, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
Revised (1) and (2) above: keep getting run-ons on this damned Smartphone. 174.212.99.253 (talk) 01:20, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
- @174.212.99.253 - it's encouraging that you want to edit accurately. However your comments suggest that you expect to be considered a Subject Matter Expert. To quote the Expert editor essay, "Previously published reliable sources, not Wikipedia editors, have authority for the content of this encyclopedia." Anonymous ISP editing, or surrogate editing, is not likely to help your cause. It will only keep resetting the six-month clock before you can ask for the Standard offer. If you cannot respect Wikipedia's policies - since 2007 - how can an administrator expect you to do so when unblocked? I would suggest that you follow Mackensen's advice. Stay off completely for six months, consider if this editorial environment is one where you can work collaboratively, then apply for the Standard offer.Blue Riband► 23:49, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
I don’t like your rules or your rule makers. And I have better things to do with my time. Goodbye. 174.212.99.253 (talk) 04:11, 18 May 2022 (UTC)

Adjacent stations bus modules
Hey, regarding Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Trains/Archive:_2022#Succession_templates_for_bus_lines, what are your thoughts on:
- Module:Adjacent stations/Skalica buses
- Module:Adjacent stations/Los Angeles Metro Busway
- Module:Adjacent stations/Bratislava buses
- Module:Adjacent stations/Bratislava regional buses
- Module:Adjacent stations/Bratislava-Vrakuňa buses
- Module:Adjacent stations/Hlohovec buses
- Module:Adjacent stations/Poprad buses
- Module:Adjacent stations/Senica buses
Should these be kept or sent to TfD? Gonnym (talk) 10:24, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Gonnym: I'd say it's case-by-case depending on the existence of articles. Module:Adjacent stations/Los Angeles Metro Busway, for example, is supporting bus rapid transit routes. We have articles about the routes and some of the stations. That one probably gets kept. Module:Adjacent stations/Bratislava buses is basically being used as an icon provider. {{rint}} could replace it, if the functionality is even necessary. Although, there's a school of thought that says you should use Adjacent stations that way to keep the logic out of rint. I've rolled up similar modules for trams; like Module:Adjacent stations/Trams in Zürich. Mackensen (talk) 12:43, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
