Hi! I am MaranoFan, a Triple Veteran Wikipedia editor. I have authored 39 good articles, six featured articles, six featured lists, three good topics and one featured topic on the English Wikipedia. I operate in the arena of modern music, mostly pop. Why I have written so much quality content about American singer Meghan Trainor? I do not know. I haven't really liked a song of hers since "Kindly Calm Me Down". It is easy to figure out why a chubby teenager like me was drawn to her in 2014. I made extreme attempts to improve her articles back then, which were futile in the face of hindrances. So when the rest of the world stopped liking her, and so did I, it seemed like her articles were left for dead. As someone averse to conflict, I saw a silver lining in the fact that no one edited her articles. That is precisely why I gravitated to them. I like that she does not have annoying fans who litter her pages with fancruft, at least since I grew up.
If you are lucky, Wikipedia will be a friendly and collaborative experience for you. As you will see below, I have been awarded various barnstars by fellow Wikipedia editors. It is quite telling most of them are from 2015-16, when the quality of my content was way inferior to what it is now. My writing skills thrived in solitude, when the articles I was writing felt almost deserted and no one was watching. Needless to say, these little awards do not mean much to me; there are some I am proud of, like the Precious prize, my Million Award, and my shiny Featured Article Medal! You know why? Because I worked my butt off for them and deserve them.
Regarding my future on Wikipedia, I plan on doing whatever I like. For a while, I was working to please. I brought every failed GAN I had up to GA status, and every failed FAC I had up to FA status. I actually had fun doing it. I currently strive to regain a healthy relationship with the Wiki. As a more confident contributor with trust in my faculties, I will no longer be shying away from conflict. Have fun scrolling through the rest of this page!
Articles I created
I don't like articles created as a metric of achievement. People in the space of creating too many articles focus on quantity over quality. It means absolutely nothing and is not a reflection of an editor's long-term investment in said articles. Take me for example, most of my GAs were not created by me. I have almost no idea who T-Wayne and iLoveMemphis are; never heard the song "Sounds of the Skeng" either, I thought it was an album while creating the article. When I was a new editor, I thought creating loads of new articles will give the impression I am experienced. Trust me, it doesn't. It gives the impression you have no life. Regardless, I started maintaining this list and never really cared enough to delete it. I am also pretty sure it is incomplete.
Essays
Sometimes I write essays. If you want to read them, be my guest. Just a warning, though, I allow myself to be politically incorrect in them. Just don't expect to see friendly, nice little, MaranoFan. I use this space to vent frustrations most of the time.
My good articles
Compared to the FA process that requires editors to be perfect, the GA process is much more of a learning experience. I consider it a better activity in editor development. Most of the reviewers in this arena are friendly and won't be too snobbish. You will improve your Grammar and writing skills, and learn a lot. I recommend nominating a few articles to GAN if you are looking to improve your confidence. In recent times, though, the bar may have fallen too much. It has been a long time since I saw a GAN being failed. This is partly my impact. The influx of music fans nominating any and every article about their favourite artist to GAN occurred after I successfully did this for Meghan Trainor. But I'm not mad. Imitation, here, is definitely a form of flattery. I have 39 good articles!
My featured articles
Read the essay GA2FA for my thoughts about the featured article process. I am actually not a big fan of it. In being a process that is fighting hard to remain prestigious, signifying only "the best articles Wikipedia has to offer", it is working against itself. The people trying hard to gatekeep it from new contributors are the same ones with multiple FAs in their own vault. Most people reviewing FACs have their own FACs up simultaneously, so it is easy to take "revenge" on them. You get more leverage in freely suggesting improvements during the GA process, where the QPQ is less obvious. Nonetheless, an FAC makes you work your butt off, and I know mine surely did. If you want to request my assistance with your FAC, preferably modern music-related, use this page.
GA checklist
In October 2016, I was blocked for "sockpuppetry" with my alternate account, despite the identical username and me explicitly indicating it was a legitimate alt account on its very user page. Hilariously, it is still marked as a sockpuppet. Why this was allowed and why I still haven't received an apology for it? I don't know. But when I was allowed to return to editing in late 2018, I decided I won't take it for granted. Exhausted by and paranoid after the stalking and wikihounding I had endured on this website, I made a tradition of indicating the projects I was about to undertake on my user page, including this GA checklist. I find it cute, due to my extreme excitement over it at the time, so I have decided to preserve it here.

DYK
People in the DYK space aren't too snobbish either. I have almost never seen a DYK nomination fail. It is a cool way to be able to get something on the main page if you aren't able to accumulate featured articles. It is also an integral part of the Four Award qualifications. So the next time you create an article, no matter how lazy you are feeling, just go ahead and nominate it for DYK.
Acknowledgements from peers
I said what I had to say about these in the lead section of this page. Barnstars do not mean much, you get a lesser amount when you grow as an editor and more people are intimidated by your skills. I continue to be proud of my Precious prize, my Million Award, and the Featured Article Medal, however!

Just a bunch of userboxes. Boring stuff. And I insist I am not the Meghan Trainor superfan this section paints me as, lol.
