June music
Ukrainian peace music is "on" today, with the conductor! - Pentecost (on last Sunday and Monday in Germany) brought a rich harvest of great music in two church services (one with me singing in choir) and two concerts with my brother in the orchestra, - four pictures I took besides the symphonic one. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:15, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks, great articles and photos! I'm seeing a lot of foxglove where I live too – just didn't know the name for it until now. DanCherek (talk) 14:18, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
- My song collection is especially rich, look, and the hall where I first heard DFD, Pierre Boulez and Murray Perahia. Do you find the baby deer in the meadow (last row)? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:27, 20 June 2022 (UTC)
- YES! How adorable! It looks like a puppy. I hope it wasn't lost! DanCherek (talk) 03:00, 21 June 2022 (UTC)
- After a while of frozeness for both of us (long enough to take the pic) the creature hopped into the meadow. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:30, 22 June 2022 (UTC)
- I recently visited Boulder, Colorado, for a conference and some hikes. At the hiking resort, there were lots of wild deer walking around and grazing, just totally used to (and unafraid of) people, it was very cool! DanCherek (talk) 12:42, 22 June 2022 (UTC)

ANYONE (band) page under attack
Hi Dan - The page ANYONE (band) is under attack by Issac Denwood who joined wikipedia a few hours ago and has contributed nothing but attacks to the ANYONE page. It seems the account was created specifically to attack the page. In addition to removing all but one of the pictures (claiming they are 'self promotional'?), he has removed entire sections of the article (all well cited with links) and has even nominated it for immediate deletion. The ANYONE page has been up for 23 years. Can you help? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Togetherment (talk • contribs) 15:25, 22 June 2022 (UTC)
- I previously removed the template because they had mistakenly added one meant for user talk pages, so the page is not currently up for deletion. By the way, I wouldn't really call the previous "Critical Acclaim" section "well cited" – it was almost entirely sourced to anyoneden.net. DanCherek (talk) 16:07, 22 June 2022 (UTC)
- the critical acclaim section links are directed to the official website where every review is clickable to the actual site where the review was generated. Can we put the section back up and simply direct the citations directly to the source? also, taking down all but one photo because they are 'self promotion'?? every site we referenced has numerous photos. Issac denwood opened his wiki account today, and has done nothing but attack our page. What can be done? Togetherment (talk) 18:05, 22 June 2022 (UTC)
- Who is "we" and what do you mean by "our page" – do you have any affiliation with the band? DanCherek (talk) 18:06, 22 June 2022 (UTC)
- My name is Julie Weiss, I am the head of PR for TogethermenT Records. It was called to my attention that this page was under attack. What is the proper way to proceed? Togetherment (talk) 18:09, 22 June 2022 (UTC)
- Alright, well, you should not have been editing the article directly in the first place, and you need to declare your status as a paid editor according to WP:COIDISCLOSEPAY — that means disclosing the relationship on your user page, on the talk page of the article, or in your edit summaries. This disclosure is required by Wikipedia's terms of use. Be sure to read the policies and guidelines on paid editing and conflicts of interest. Once you have reviewed the conflict of interest guidelines, I recommend suggesting any future edits that you'd like to make on the talk page of the article, using edit requests (you may find the Wikipedia:Edit Request Wizard helpful). And please stop describing the other editor's edits as attacks – they raised some evidently valid concerns. I'll put some more information on your talk page about this. DanCherek (talk) 18:15, 22 June 2022 (UTC)
- I certainly intend to follow all rules, although I must admit I might not know them all. our intent is simply to keep the page up to date with basic facts, like the release of a new album. The new user 'Issac Denwood' who has been a member for a few hours removed that section entirely? I put it back up with solid citations for EVERY sentence, citations form the AP - associated press etc. This user also deleted all but one photographs. Is there a rule prohibiting photographs of the subject? Togetherment (talk) 20:43, 22 June 2022 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) You have made it abundantly clear that you have no intention of following “all the rules” Wikipedia accounts are strictly single person use you keep saying “our”? You have failed to disclose your paid editing status on your user page despite twice being asked to, you are also edit warring to include your prefered version of the article. You have a very clear conflict of interest and need to make edit requests on the article’s talk page, using the {{request edit}} template and a reliable source. Theroadislong (talk) 21:02, 22 June 2022 (UTC)
- Oh no! I think that another user helped me add 'paid editing status'. I also applied for the name change. I didn't mean to edit war, I was just trying to add/update the details of the record that just came out, with citations on ever sentence. I will use the 'talk' method if i do anymore editing. thanks Togetherment (talk) 21:25, 22 June 2022 (UTC)
- Here's an easy way to properly disclose your status: go to Wikipedia:Edit Request Wizard/Paid, click "Disclose Payment", add the relevant information, and click "Publish changes". DanCherek (talk) 21:31, 22 June 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022
Hello DanCherek,
- Backlog status
At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.
Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]
In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).
While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).
- Backlog drive
A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.
- TIP – New school articles
Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.
- Misc
There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}
, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:
>NPP backlog: 11020 as of 13:00, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.
- Reminders
- Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
- If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing
{{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page. - If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

How to add photos --Isaac Trappkid (talk) 21:27, 25 June 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Isaac Trappkid, welcome to Wikipedia! If you are asking about how to upload an image, there is a detailed guide at Wikipedia:Uploading images. Please keep in mind that unless you are specifically uploading a fair-use image that is the subject of commentary in an article, any images you upload need to either be in the public domain or released under a compatible license by the copyright holder. Page mover granted
Hello, DanCherek. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, move subpages when moving the parent page(s), and move category pages.
Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving a redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect
is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

If you do not want the page mover right anymore, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Thank you, and happy editing! Primefac (talk) 10:55, 26 June 2022 (UTC)

Request of guidance on attribution of translations
Hello Mr Cherek. Yesterday you were kind enough to give me some guidance on attribution. Thank you! I was unaware of this need.
I have also used information from other wikis, specifically kiswahili wikipedia, and was wondering how to attribute it properly? In the few times I have done this I added a translation tag on the talk page with the wiki and page link to it. I have never added any attributions into my edit summary as you guided me yesterday.
Is there a more proper way to do this? Any templates like you gave me for the english wiki attributions?
Thank you for any advice, BevoLJ (talk) 08:26, 28 June 2022 (UTC)
- Hi BevoLJ, thanks for asking. WP:TFOLWP has more information about this. Providing attribution for translated material is similar to attribution for copying within Wikipedia. An easy way to do it is to use an edit summary like this:
Translating from [[:fr:Exact name of French article]]; see its history for attribution.
If you want to go back and fix some unattributed translations, just make a small edit to the page with an edit summary like this:Content was translated from [[:fr:Exact name of French article]] on 21 June 2022; see its history for attribution.
so that it's clear when the translation occurred (replace the example date with the actual one). Let me know if you have any questions about that. DanCherek (talk) 11:12, 28 June 2022 (UTC)

12Stone Copyvio Revdel
I saw that you put a copyvio-revdel tag on 12Stone due to this edit, but I did want to point out that the IP only re-added the content, the offending copyvio has been part of the article since it's creation, and I only noticed and removed it on June 22. I don't know if or how it should be addressed since I know little about copyvio history deletion, but I thought I would point that the copyvio problem goes throughout the entire history of the article. - Aoidh (talk) 19:43, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks! I saw that but I am usually reluctant to request revision deletion for so many edits, stretching back for more than a decade, because it hides so many intervening edits. It does make the revdel request a bit less meaningful, though, I agree, but hopefully it can help deter the content from being added again in the future. Thanks for catching it in the first place. Ajahn Brahm
Hi DanCherek, I felt the need to delete wholesale your most recent edit on the Ajahn Brahm page. Apologies if in doing so, I also removed content that may have genuinely improved the article. The truth is, as I scrolled through the changes you had made, there was altogether too much material I felt had no place in the article, and it would have taken too much work on my part to selectively remove individual changes you had made. There is no need to add the type of excessive linking that you made to the article, as per WP:OVERLINK. In addition, some of the content you wrote, for example, regarding Brahm's education, does not bear much relevance to the article topic, especially as it relates more to the school itself, so that doesn't need to be there. If you feel that I have unfairly undone your work, please discuss it with me on the article talk page before reverting. Thank you. Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 04:38, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Revirvlkodlaku, no worries, but I've only made one edit to that page (Special:Diff/1096318514), and that involved removing three paragraphs that an IP editor had recently added. I haven't actually added any text of my own to the article, so I'm not sure if your message above was intended for me? DanCherek (talk) 12:17, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
- Oh, I see what happened. I think you may have missed a couple of the previous edits, so whatever changes that editor made remained after your revert. No worries :) Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 16:34, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
