WikiProject Poland Newsletter • January 2014 • Issue II
For our freedom and yours Welcome to the second issue of WikiProject Poland newsletter, the Monitor (named after the first Polish newspaper). Our Project has been operational since 1 June, 2005, and also serves as the Poland-related Wikipedia notice board. I highly recommend watchlisting the Wikipedia:WikiProject Poland page, so you can be aware of the ongoing discussions. We hope you will join us in them, if you haven't done so already! Unlike many other WikiProjects, we are quite active; we get close to a hundred discussion threads each year and we do a pretty good job at answering all issues raised. Last year we were featured in the Signpost, and our interviewer was amazed at our activity. In the end, however, even as active as we are, we are just a tiny group - you can easily become one of our core members! In addition to a lively encyclopedic, Poland-related, English-language discussion forum, we have numerous useful tools that can be of use to you - and that you could help us maintain and develop:
This is not all; on our page you can find a list of useful templates (including userboxes), awards and other tools!
It took me three years to finish this issue. Feel free to help out getting the next one before 2017 by being more active in WikiProject management :) You have received this newsletter because you are listed as a member at WikiProject Poland. |
Season's greetings!

When I went to link this article with others they showed there is no information about this article in English Wikipedia. I have worked so hard to write this article but there is no information about it. I was also blamed for plagiarizing. So I deleted all the things I wrote. None of it is acceptable
Not the edit summary, not deleting that many talk page posts. I want to post to WP:AE about it, but I am running it past somebody first, and frankly given recent history it will be viewed as tit for tat if I the one making the post. It will be taken more seriously if you do it. However, I suggest you wait until the person I sent it to gets back to me, as they are good at trying to get people in trouble.Elinruby (talk) 06:37, 10 April 2022 (UTC)

Please refrain from using talk pages such as Talk:Socialism for general discussion of the topic or other unrelated topics. They are for discussion related to improving the article in specific ways, based on reliable sources and the project policies and guidelines; they are not for use as a forum or chat room. If you have specific questions about certain topics, consider visiting our reference desk and asking them there instead of on article talk pages. See here for more information. Russian cruiser Moskva
Hi, can you look at the couple of circular ref issues at Russian cruiser Moskva. It is related to Russian language sources. I thought you may be able to help. Venkat TL (talk) 08:05, 15 April 2022 (UTC)
- I am not an expert in navy problems
- Recent Russian and Ukrainian references are censored.Xx236 (talk) 08:27, 15 April 2022 (UTC)
- I see. Its ok. Thank you for checking. By circular ref, I meant that there are links to Russian wikipedia that may have reliable source in Russian language. only someone familiar with Russian language could identify which sources to copy from the Russian Wikipedia to English Wikipedia. I see that they are old references (not recent Ukraine invasion) so may be try if it is accessible. Venkat TL (talk) 08:36, 15 April 2022 (UTC)

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.
You have shown interest in Eastern Europe or the Balkans. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic. To opt out of receiving messages like this one, place{{Ds/aware}} on your user talk page and specify in the template the topic areas that you would like to opt out of alerts about. For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor. |

Linkfarming Ukraine war
Please stop using the talk page to just post lists of links. Instead, try writing proposed text with citations to the references. After your signature on a new line type {{reflist-talk}}. Thanks NewsAndEventsGuy (talk) 01:29, 20 May 2022 (UTC)
- moved here by me from my talk page NewsAndEventsGuy (talk) 11:09, 20 May 2022 (UTC) Please show the rule that sources are illegal here — Preceding unsigned comment added by Xx236 (talk • contribs) 05:59, 20 May 2022 (UTC)
- See What Wikipedia is Not, under WP:LINKFARM, and purpose of talk pages at WP:TPG which says the purpose of talk pages is for discussion of article improvements. Just loading them up with articles you find interesting but with no proposals for how to incorporate them isn't really the idea. One or two on a rare occassion is no biggie. See also WP:DISRUPTSIGNS, where not answering questions is considered disruptive. You can just assume you'll be asked "so what do you want to do about this source?", so please just slow down and invest the sweat labor of thinking and explaining that when you post the latest article to catch your fancy. Thanks. NewsAndEventsGuy (talk) 11:13, 20 May 2022 (UTC)
New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022
Hello Xx236,
At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.
Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.
In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 725 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 1034 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.
This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.
If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page.
If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

DYK for Kurt Weigelt
On 24 May 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Kurt Weigelt, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Nazi war criminal Kurt Weigelt could not be directly employed by Deutsche Bank after World War II, so he reestablished Lufthansa? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Kurt Weigelt. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Kurt Weigelt), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |
