DYK for Obed Dickinson
![]() | On 18 July 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Obed Dickinson, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Obed Dickinson, an abolitionist pastor in Oregon in the mid-1800s, was pressured into resigning for advocating for racial equality? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Obed Dickinson. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Obed Dickinson), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |

Hello!
Hello my friend. How are you! I haven't come across any of your work recently - any big projects in the works? Need a hand with anything? I keep thinking back to your work at the Vivian Strong article, and end up using it to base some of my research practice off of... phenomenal work. I hope there is more to come? I've been working on some other Nebraska articles lately - nothing quite like Strong, but important, I think. Let me know what you're up to! (I can check your contributions, but sometimes our most important and ongoing work is yet to be released on Wikipedia...) Health for you and yours, Urve (talk) 12:24, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
- Hello Urve! Thank you for the note, it's good to hear! In Oregon we are just starting the new school term in September, so things have been very busy. And, I've taken a little break from Wikipedia editing as a result. However, our published book just came out online on September 5! Wikipedia and Academic Libraries: A Global Project. I will definitely get back to some Wikipedia articles in November, after my teaching schedule slows down a bit. Thank you for checking in! Bridges2Information (talk) 21:36, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

Show up at any point during the four hours to get started!
Also: Free burritos!! We will be providing vegan, vegetarian, and meat burritos from food cart Loncheria Las Mayos. Alder Commons has a large, fenced playground. Children are welcome! Category:Book censorship in the United States
Hello, please do not add books or authors to this category, especially when their articles have little or no mention of censorship. Categories in Wikipedia are for defining characteristics of the subject, so the category for book censorship in the US is for articles about that *exact* topic (or things very closely related to it), not a list of books banned in the US (which given the diversity of the country would be a rather large list indeed). After reverting your additions to the category, the only two books left in it, The Bluest Eye and Counter-Revolutionary Violence: Bloodbaths in Fact & Propaganda, have very extensive discussions about their being censored. The idea of categorising books as banned has been rejected in Wikipedia per long-standing precedent. Graham87 05:59, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
- Regarding your last link, it looks like that category was functionally recreated in 2018 as Category:Censored books. Colin M (talk) 14:23, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
- Ah yes, and I see we have Category:Censored films too. The general principle holds though: categories shouldn't be added unless its *really obvious* why they're on the article, because they can't be annotated. In cases like this I'd be most comfortable if there was a section containing at least a few sourced sentences describing the history of a work's censorship. Graham87 16:40, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
