Mistake
Hi Patar knight, hope you're well. Recently, you closed the discussion Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Galle Gladiators in 2020 and deleted the page List of Lanka Premier League captains with that. However, that list article had an individual AfD page Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Lanka Premier League captains where the discussion was closed with result of no consensus. So, this may be a mistake that closing discussion with no consensus and then deleting the page. Therefore, I'd request you to restore that article. Thank you. Empire AS Talk! 06:41, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah, since I closed the captains list page as no-consensus, I obviously didn't want to just summarily delete it. The bungled AFD bundling apparently really messed up the XFDCloser script. Thanks for catching this!---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 13:59, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah there was a huge mistake in the AfD pages. First of all, the nominator made baseless nomination. Not even a single issue in the article. Second, the nominator bundled the AfDs in a wrong way. Instead of bundling all articles on a single page he/she created 7 different pages for all 7 articles + added all the 7 articles on all 7 pages one by one. As a result the XfD closer script got confused! Thank you very much. Empire AS Talk! 16:07, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

Page move denial?
Before I do any formal RM could you better explain the denial of moving 2021 Canadian Open (tennis) BACK to it's original place of 2020 Canadian Open (tennis). It was moved without any discussion. The fact that Canada numbers their events has no bearing because all tournaments do the same yet we have 2020 Wimbledon Championships and 2020 BNP Paribas Open which were canceled. What seems to be controversial is that an editor moved the article in the first place with no discussion, taking all the 2020 edits with it. Had he simply turned 2020 into a redirect and created 2021, that could be easily fixed and discussed. Now editors will simply remove the redirect and create a new 2020 article with all the old 2020 stuff attached to 2021. It seems kind of strange. Fyunck(click) (talk) 18:18, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
- WP:G6, which you requested is only for uncontroversial deletions. ViperSnake151 clearly disagrees with the 2020 title, making it controversial. Looking at the basis of the dispute, it's not a completely unreasonable disagreement. The Tennis Canada statement referenced in the article [1] frames the year-long delay as a postponement rather than a cancellation. The numbering is sort of relevant, because there can't be two seperate 140th editions of a tournament and it shows tennis valuing the ordinality of an event in addition to the date. By contrast, say 2020–21_Grand_Prix_of_Figure_Skating_Final is purely distinguished by the date. In any case, the 2020 Wimbledon Championships and 2020 BNP Paribas Open articles both describe the events as cancelled, not postponed, so they can be distinguished. According to WP:RM, the proper procedure to revert recent, undiscussed, controversial page movies that non-admins can't reverse is a WP:RM#TRtechnical request. However, anyone can contest technical moves and I presume ViperSnake151 would, in which case an RM would be required anyway. Given everything above and because the page ha been stable at the new title for a month, I didn't feel it qualified as an uncontroversial technical move request, so I didn't act on that basis. I don't see your hypothetical panning out, since there's unlikely to be new information to add about the original 2020 plans. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 19:26, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
- Fair enough. However there is enough info to make the 2020 article. In fact in 2020 is was sponsored by Rogers and in 2021 that changed. I was going to add some stuff yesterday and noticed that someone moved it with no discussion. Also multiple sources also say Canada canceled it, not postponed. If it was truly postponed then there would be two events this year or else 2021 would now need to be postponed till 2022, and on and on. It's simply semantics in how someone wants to designate 2020. What I really disagree with is "stable for a month." That does not seem stable in my book, we just didn't notice the move. Thanks. Fyunck(click) (talk) 20:41, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
- Local sources, and the official organizing committee, say postponed. There's also the fact that the venues always alternate for the men's and women's tournaments. If the 2020 tournament had been cancelled, the men's event would be held in Montreal and women's in Toronto. But this was a de jure postponement. ViperSnake151 Talk 21:24, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
- Officially, it's postponed [2], and that's what the Canadian Press is reporting it as [3]. In any case, there's no pressing issue such as BLP violations, protracted edit warring, or subject-matter urgency (the event is in August). At worst it's at an "incorrect" title for a week or two max while the RM is resolved. Presumably ViperSnake would have started an RM if I had decided to revert, and both of you would have written arguments justifying your positions, so the only thing affected is timing some and minor clerical work. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 23:20, 10 April 2021 (UTC)

LoL
Hi there, Patar. Thanks so much for your improvements to LoL! I've noticed that you added three references to Dot Esports, which was deemed to not be a high quality reliable source at FAC. I did fight for it, which you can see here, but was ultimately defeated. So although you did update information (like the number of teams), the information was reverted back to slightly outdated because of FAC not deeming the source reliable. Unless we can find some other source, I'm going to have to remove the Dot Esports stuff in a few days. Just thought I'd give you a heads up and explanation! — ImaginesTigers (talk) 14:11, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
- That unfortunate, since it's on WP:VG/RS, which is normally stricter than what typically passes for a reliable source on Wikipedia. I'll see if I can find better sources in the next day or two. Thanks for the heads up and the work you've put into the article. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 21:47, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
Marleau record
Well, if you insist on breaking the rule why don't you update all of the active players' stats daily on the List of NHL players with 1,000 games played page. Then good luck in seeing it revert back to what it was at the end of last season. Ralphierce (talk) 04:59, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
- Is there some documentation of how this rule came to be? I can see a justification for not updating every single player on the list until season-end, but in the case of Marleau, it's literally breaking the all-time record. Maybe a compromise would just be to update the 1500+ games section as of the day the record was broken if consistency is a big issue. Not sure what you mean by the last sentence, but I hope that's not a threat. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 05:05, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
- I've added a note in the list key that changes in the all-time record can happen mid-season. [4]. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 05:14, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

- Consensus was reached to deprecate Wikipedia:Editor assistance.
- Following a Request for Comment the Book namespace was deprecated.
- Wikimedia previously used the IRC network Freenode. However, due to changes over who controlled the network with reports of a forceful takeover by several ex-staff members, the Wikimedia IRC Group Contacts decided to move to the new Libera Chat network. It has been reported that Wikimedia related channels on Freenode have been forcibly taken over if they pointed members to Libera. There is a migration guide and Wikimedia discussions about this.
- After a Clarification request, the Arbitration Committee modified Remedy 5 of the Antisemitism in Poland case. This means sourcing expectations are a discretionary sanction instead of being present on all articles. It also details using the talk page or the Reliable Sources Noticeboard to discuss disputed sources.

- Consensus has been reached to delete all books in the book namespace. There was rough consensus that the deleted books should still be available on request at WP:REFUND even after the namespace is removed.
- An RfC is open to discuss the next steps following a trial which automatically applied pending changes to TFAs.
- IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.
- The community authorised COVID-19 general sanctions have been superseded by the COVID-19 discretionary sanctions following a motion at a case request. Alerts given and sanctions placed under the community authorised general sanctions are now considered alerts for and sanctions under the new discretionary sanctions.

Administrators' newsletter – October 2021
News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2021).
- Following an RfC, extended confirmed protection may be used preemptively on certain high-risk templates.
- Following a discussion at the Village Pump, there is consensus to treat discord logs the same as IRC logs. This means that discord logs will be oversighted if posted onwiki.
- DiscussionTools has superseded Enterprisey's reply-link script. Editors may switch using the "Discussion tools" checkbox under Preferences → Beta features.
- A motion has standardised the 500/30 (extended confirmed) restrictions placed by the Arbitration Committee. The standardised restriction is now listed in the Arbitration Committee's procedures.
- Following the closure of the Iranian politics case, standard discretionary sanctions are authorized for all edits about, and all pages related to, post-1978 Iranian politics, broadly construed.
- The Arbitration Committee encourages uninvolved administrators to use the discretionary sanctions procedure in topic areas where it is authorised to facilitate consensus in RfCs. This includes, but is not limited to, enforcing sectioned comments, word/diff limits and moratoriums on a particular topic from being brought in an RfC for up to a year.
- Editors have approved expanding the trial of Growth Features from 2% of new accounts to 25%, and the share of newcomers getting mentorship from 2% to 5%. Experienced editors are invited to add themselves to the mentor list.
- The community consultation phase of the 2021 CheckUser and Oversight appointments process is open for editors to provide comments and ask questions to candidates.

News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2021).
- Unregistered editors using the mobile website are now able to receive notices to indicate they have talk page messages. The notice looks similar to what is already present on desktop, and will be displayed on when viewing any page except mainspace and when editing any page. (T284642)
- The limit on the number of emails a user can send per day has been made global instead of per-wiki to help prevent abuse. (T293866)
- Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee Elections is open until 23:59, 06 December 2021 (UTC).
- The already authorized standard discretionary sanctions for all pages relating to the Horn of Africa (defined as including Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti, and adjoining areas if involved in related disputes), broadly construed, have been made permanent.

Kindly restore Sham Kaushal page. --Arunudoy (talk) 07:58, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
- Sham Kaushal was deleted in 2017 as a WP:BLPPROD, which only applies when there are no reliable sources in the article. Do you have a reliable source discussing Kaushal? If so, I would be happy to restore. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 16:40, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled
A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:06, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
delete page: Leonard Steinberg, Compass
Good afternoon,
This page was deleted and I do not understand. This is a person page who is my business partner and recognized in the world of Real Estate in NY. No advertising was done. Only quoting articles where he was quoted. I see other real Estate people who are in Wikipedia. Leonard was No one agent team in the USA a few years back as quoted by the wall Street Journal Real trends.
If there is something specific you want me to remove I will do so.
Please advise.
Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hsenequier (talk • contribs) 18:52, 27 December 2021 (UTC)
- It was deleted under WP:G11, because of its overly promotional tone, which would have to be fundamentally re-written to be encyclopedic. Also, if Steinberg is your business partner, then you have a conflict of interest and should not be directly editing any articles related to him. If you want to add an article for Steinberg, you should use the articles for creation process. If you want a copy of the deleted article for this purpose, let me know.Being recognized in an industry isn't enough for inclusion on Wikipedia. Biographical articles on Wikipedia have to meet the notability guideline for people, which requires independent, in-depth coverage by reliable sources. For example, if the Wall Street Journal recognized him as the #1American realtor in an article, that article could be used to help establish Steinberg's notability for inclusion on Wikipedia. Some of the articles in the deleted version seem at first glance to be possibly usable as the basis for a neutrally-written encyclopedia article. [5][6][7][8] As for specific things to remove, the article really needs to be rewritten from scratch. Besides obviously encyclopedic elements like a list of articles they are quoted in, there are also multiple sentences, many unreferenced, which are focused entirely on COMPASS and not Steinberg. Phrases such as "#1 producing team", "infused with technology", "some of the world's leading talent ", "leading real estate technology company" "empowers its residential real estate agents to deliver exceptional service", "" Compass agents utilize the platform to grow their business, save time and manage their business more effectively" , "some of the most iconic residential buildings", "some of the world's greatest architects" are obviously promotional in tone, and not encyclopedic. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 19:29, 27 December 2021 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – January 2022
News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2021).
- Following consensus at the 2021 RfA review, the autopatrolled user right has been removed from the administrators user group; admins can grant themselves the autopatrolled permission if they wish to remain autopatrolled.
- Additionally, consensus for proposal 6C of the 2021 RfA review has led to the creation of an administrative action review process. The purpose of this process will be to review individual administrator actions and individual actions taken by users holding advanced permissions.
- Following the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been appointed to the Arbitration Committee: Beeblebrox, Cabayi, Donald Albury, Enterprisey, Izno, Opabinia regalis, Worm That Turned, Wugapodes.
- The functionaries email list (functionaries-en
lists.wikimedia.org) will no longer accept incoming emails apart from those sent by list members and WMF staff. Private concerns, apart from those requiring oversight, should be directly sent to the Arbitration Committee.
How we will see unregistered users
Hi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

WP:AFC Helper News
Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.
- AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
- The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.
Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future.
