Thank you so much for promoting osteogenesis imperfecta with its image, as it was a whole lot of work to get it to its current state. I'm sure Vaticidalprophet will be happy I didn't give up due to not being able to think of a hook at first! I'm writing to suggest you move the text (pictured) after the words blue eyes—as a genetic disease can't really be pictured.
So my suggested change is in full—
... that osteogenesis imperfecta causes blue eyes (pictured)—and brittle bones?
Thanks so much! I'm sorry for forgetting to write the (pictured) in my suggested hook. Psiĥedelisto (talk • contribs) please always ping! 02:19, 6 February 2022 (UTC)

WP:AFC Helper News
Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.
- AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
- The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.
Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Cheers, Primefac, via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 16:00, 16 February 2022 (UTC)

WikiCup 2022 March newsletter
And so ends the first round of the WikiCup. Last year anyone who scored more than zero points moved on to Round 2, but this was not the case this year, and a score of 13 or more was required to proceed. The top scorers in Round 1 were:
- Epicgenius, a finalist last year, who led the field with 1906 points, gained from 32 GAs and 19 DYKs, all on the topic of New York buildings.
- AryKun, new to the contest, was second with 1588 points, having achieved 2 FAs, 11 GAs and various other submissions, mostly on the subject of birds.
- Bloom6132, a WikiCup veteran, was in third place with 682 points, garnered from 51 In the news items and several DYKs.
- GhostRiver was close behind with 679 points, gained from achieving 12 GAs, mostly on ice hockey players, and 35 GARs.
- Kavyansh.Singh was in fifth place with 551 points, with an FA, a FL, and many reviews.
- SounderBruce was next with 454 points, gained from an FA and various other submissions, mostly on United States highways.
- Ktin, another WikiCup veteran, was in seventh place with 412 points, mostly gained from In the news items.
These contestants, like all the others who qualified for Round 2, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. Between them, contestants completed reviews of a large number of good articles as the contest ran concurrently with a GAN backlog drive. Well done all! To qualify for Round 3, contestants will need to finish Round 2 among the top thirty-two participants.
Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Anything that should have been claimed for in Round 1 is no longer eligible for points. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed.
Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Need some help with explaining
Hello, can I ask for some help? Venkat TL left a message on my talk page stating that I should not have added a {{subst:DYK?}} to his nomination since I wasn't planning on doing a full review. I told him it's common practice to add icons to nominations with issues, even if a full review has yet to be performed. To be fair, in my case it was mea culpa: I told him he needed to do a QPQ since he had more than 5 DYK noms, when he corrected me and said that the QPQ kicks in not at 5 DYK noms but rather 5 successful DYK credits. In any case, I really don't know how to explain to him that adding icons without full reviews is commonly-done on DYK and is considered acceptable practice, so I was hoping you can explain it to him better than I can. Thanks. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 16:44, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
- I backed you up on your talk page. Now to see if Venkat TL believes it. SL93 (talk) 17:30, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for the help. Now he's bringing up the Hijab nomination and I really don't know how to explain that one anymore. I've been trying to tell him that multiple editors had raised concerns about that article. Maybe you can explain it better to him than I can? Iowa Corn Song
@SL93: I just wanted to thank you for creating this nomination, and with music. It's so darned cute. Makes me want to grab a baton and march up and down to the beat. — Maile (talk) 00:15, 16 April 2022 (UTC)
- I may or may not have taught myself the song on guitar and spent 15 minutes giddily strumming it over and over. theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/they) 00:22, 16 April 2022 (UTC) yes, I did put my hands over my head every time I said "tall corn". Made it very hard to keep strumming.
- Thanks, Maile and leek. While creating the article, I was hoping that I could find music that could be used. I about became upset because the first audio that I found was a rendition that wasn't in the public domain, but I ended up becoming lucky. SL93 (talk) 00:32, 16 April 2022 (UTC)

WikiCup 2022 May newsletter
The second round of the 2022 WikiCup has now finished. It was a high-scoring round and contestants needed 115 points to advance to round 3. There were some very impressive efforts in round 2, with the top seven contestants all scoring more than 500 points. A large number of the points came from the 11 featured articles and the 79 good articles achieved in total by contestants.
Our top scorers in round 2 were:
- Epicgenius, with 1264 points from 2 featured article, 4 good articles and 18 DYKs. Epicgenius was a finalist last year but has now withdrawn from the contest as he pursues a new career path.
- AryKun, with 1172 points from two featured articles, one good article and a substantial number of featured article and good article reviews.
- Bloom6132, with 605 points from 44 in the news items and 4 DYKs.
- Sammi Brie, with 573 points from 8 GAs and 21 DYKs.
- Ealdgyth, with 567 points from 11 GAs and 34 good and featured article reviews.
- Panini!, with 549 points from 1 FA, 4 GAs and several other sources.
- Lee Vilenski, with 545 points from 1 FA, 4 GAs and a number of reviews.
The rules for featured and good article reviews require the review to be of sufficient length; brief quick fails and very short reviews will generally not be awarded points. Remember also that DYKs cannot be claimed until they have appeared on the main page. As we enter the third round, any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed now, and anything you forgot to claim in round 2 cannot! Remember too, that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. - theleekycauldron It's fine. There is also the same issue in prep 4. I noticed that preps are getting harder to balance with the currently approved hooks. It shouldn't be much of a problem at the moment due to how many queues and preps are filled, but I'm hoping we move into two QPQs per nomination soon. SL93 (talk) 06:06, 10 May 2022 (UTC)

Listen; i'm sorry if I misrepresented what you were saying. Whether or not your criticism was valid (and I think it has merit), I was trying just to get at the idea that WP:ERRORS isn't the place for criticizing another editor's conduct; it moves too quickly, and it's seen by too many people. I think you should have gone to their talk page; it's less embarrassing for them, and the community can fix errors on WP:ERRORS and move on. theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/they) 21:09, 16 May 2022 (UTC)

bottom preps
as a matter of guideline, do we fill the bottom preps or not? I keep wanting to do work at the preps, which is difficult if you fill the bottom one and I don't... are we supposed to or not? theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/they) 03:46, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
- theleekycauldron It hasn't been written anywhere despite a couple editors, who don't work on the preps, being snappity about it. I think it should be decided among those who work on the preps unless it becomes a guideline. I tend to not listen to unwritten rules and guidelines. It's not either of those in my mind until there is an established consensus that is written. Then again, I'm not the only editor who works on the bottom set. I only filled the set because more sets can be promoted if it's an issue and it needs to be taken care of soon anyway with only one filled queue. I'm not sure if you're saying I work on them too much, but I only filled a few of the current preps and I didn't work on the promotions that are in the only filled queue. Though you recently worked on around three sets at once. SL93 (talk) 03:54, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
- theleekycauldron Well, now there is a new bottom prep and soon to be more due to there only being two filled queues... SL93 (talk) 05:05, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
- I'm totally not saying you work on them too much – I was more trying to get at the inside of your head, see if there's a consistent rule that needs to be followed. I'm happy for you to fill the bottom preps, if you want, but it does bring on the snappities. If you want to take a whack at the currently open bottom set, you're more than welcome to. theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/they) 07:44, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
- theleekycauldron Sorry for misunderstanding you. I try to always ignore the few complainers when we are on two sets a day. SL93 (talk) 08:11, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022
Hello SL93,
At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.
Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.
In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 732 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 1034 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.
This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.
If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page.
If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

My first suggestion to you is to use PressPass, a Greasemonkey script that will save you oodles of time. What PressPass does is generate cite news templates based off a clipping—if you title the clipping, it will use the clipping title.
For instance, I have a clipping https://www.newspapers.com/clip/102428998/channel-21-statements-missed-mark/. PressPass turns that clipping into
<ref name="Conc890412">{{Cite news|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/102428998/channel-21-statements-missed-mark/|date=April 12, 1989|page=1|title=Channel 21 Statements Missed Mark|newspaper=Concord Monitor|location=Concord, New Hampshire|via=Newspapers.com|access-date=May 29, 2022}}</ref><!-- Wed -->
That's great! But three things need to be done before I go off and put this in the article.
- Newspapers.com, except for newer paper years added by digital microfilm,[1] does not account for section numbers in pagination. Page 1 is actually page A1 in this newspaper, so that has to be changed out. One of the Dr. Max Show citations is a magazine supplement, scanned alongside the newspaper, which has its own title and pagination: "The Five Seasons Extra 10".
- The author information must be added manually.
- This article spans two pages and requires two clippings. The second clipping is https://www.newspapers.com/clip/102429075/channel-21/ and it is on page A8. For second and third pages, you only need the raw clipping URL for Wikipedia use, as we'll be linking it in the pages parameter. We add all that information in as follows:
<ref name="Conc890412">{{Cite news|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/102428998/channel-21-statements-missed-mark/|date=April 12, 1989|page=A1, [https://www.newspapers.com/clip/102429075/channel-21/ A8]|first=Neal|last=Shultz|title=Channel 21 Statements Missed Mark|newspaper=Concord Monitor|location=Concord, New Hampshire|via=Newspapers.com|access-date=May 29, 2022}}</ref><!-- Wed -->
(Also note that if you have two references from the same paper, or sometimes multiple papers in the same city, on the same date, you may need to edit the ref name to avoid ref name duplication.)
PressPass has been enormously useful to me in saving time. You will find that Newspapers.com's holdings will allow you to write broadcasting articles into nearly every corner of the state (sorry, Ottumwa). I suspect you will have quite a bit of fun.

Prep 7 note
I was really hoping my 500th DYK (which is the next one of mine to run) would be WLOK instead of Rich Strike, and honestly Rich Strike might be best held for June 11 (second set if 2-a-day) so it runs during the Belmont Stakes... It's funny, a racehorse is so unrepresentative of my work! Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 03:47, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
- Sammi Brie You just gave me background information that I had no way of knowing. There was no special occasion request made for Rich Strike also. Next time, please make a request for what you want promoted next at the DYK talk page because no one has a way to know otherwise. SL93 (talk) 11:53, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
- I didn't make a date request for Rich Strike because I didn't think it'd take this long to run (nor did I know Rich Strike would skip the Preakness for the Belmont). Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 16:34, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
- Sammi Brie Either way, I wouldn't know what you preferred when it comes to that nomination. I also had no idea of knowing what you wanted your 500th DYK to be or that you even cared about it. SL93 (talk) 22:29, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
- Sammi Brie Should I move Rich Strike to the special occasion holding area for June 11? SL93 (talk) 01:55, 6 June 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah. If we're still at two-a-day, run that in the second set to appear during the Belmont. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 01:56, 6 June 2022 (UTC)
- Sammi Brie Done. SL93 (talk) 02:00, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

James F. Kelley DYK review
Hi there, I just want to make sure James F. Kelley got a proper DYK review. I’m a bit confused as to what happened. It looks like the Good Article review template was used, but then was deleted. Thriley (talk) 16:55, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
- Thriley The review was fine. I guess I'm confused because I still see the GA review template. SL93 (talk) 21:51, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
Hi SL93 ...re Sonya Legg
<rant> I would really like to go with an earlier hook. I don't want to encourage the trivial messing about with hooks after they have been approved by a reliable editor. Your tick for the article was fine and then everyone piled on to ... have their name mentioned. I think this is just pissing about and it deters nominators and reviewers from getting a good hook. After all why bother when the hook is going to be "improved" and everyone says "briiliant" ... because they know that discussion just leads to more delay and a lower position hook. Promoters need to fix real and actual errors not oblige everyone to have to comment on their stylistic mods as they try and make a 100% good hook into a 101% better one. </rant> Victuallers (talk) 20:47, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
- Pinging Evrik to see about using the original hook. SL93 (talk) 21:54, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
- Looking at Sonya Legg and Template:Did you know nominations/Sonya Legg, I think this was Alt2: ... that British oceanographer Sonya Legg has studied the South China Sea where waves can be bigger than 600 feet (180 m)?
- Which one did you want? --evrik (talk) 22:08, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
- Pinging Victuallers SL93 (talk) 22:08, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
- Thx SL93, and thanks to @Evrik: - the earlier the better IMO. There was nothing wrong with the original hook. The critic of 0.2 km was quite happy to see "600 feet" as long as the USA's units got mentioned, which is a bit biased??. SL93's checking of the hook was fine and didn't need to prissed up by later commentators. Victuallers (talk) 22:40, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Victuallers: mind if I use meters rather than kilometers? The 0.2 seems small. --evrik (talk) 01:52, 9 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Evrik: Sure, just do it , lets go with your "stylistic mod" (see above) its hung around too long. Although it would have been nice to have run it as written and as approved. Do you think I chose km randomly? This was written by someone who has written dozens of articles since it was nominated. We/they lose interest. DYK is for new articles. Thanks for helping for this article to escape from the DYK holding camp. Victuallers (talk) 07:05, 9 June 2022 (UTC)

DYK for Cyclotron
Hi, thanks for promoting Cyclotron for DYK. In the discussion I had with David Eppstein about the nomination, the consensus was to remove that cyclotron diagram and replace it with this one, but I didn't know how to make that edit at the time. Is that something you can help me with now? Thanks! PianoDan (talk) 19:33, 16 June 2022 (UTC)
- PianoDan I became confused on which image to use because the automated prep promoter didn't list the second image. Now done. SL93 (talk) 19:44, 16 June 2022 (UTC)
- it won't list if the image file isn't in {{main page image/DYK}} format- gotta add that functionality. theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/they) 19:49, 16 June 2022 (UTC)
