Requests for permissions |
---|
This page enables administrators to handle requests for permissions on the English Wikipedia. Administrators are able to modify account creator, autopatrolled, confirmed, file mover, extended confirmed, mass message sender, new page reviewer, page mover, pending changes reviewer, rollback, template editor rights and AutoWikiBrowser access. Editors wishing to request a permission flag here should do so following the procedure below. Editors requesting permissions are advised to periodically revisit the requests page, as notifications will not always be given after a decision is made. Editors should not expect their request to be answered right away and should remember to be patient when filing a request. To find out what permissions your account has, go to Special:Preferences, where your permissions are listed in the user profile tab under "Member of groups". Requests for permissions are archived regularly; please see Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Archive for an index of past requests. |
Permissions
Handled here
- Account creator ( • view requests): The account creator flag is granted to users who are active in the request an account process. The flag removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24 hour period. It also allows users to make accounts with names similar to other accounts. The account creator flag is only given to users who participate in the ACC process and may be removed without notice should a user's participation in the account creation process cease.
- Autopatrolled ( • view requests): The autopatrolled flag is granted to users who are active in the creation of new articles. This tool is granted so their creations are auto patrolled in Special:NewPages. Unlike other requests, any user may nominate an editor for Autopatrolled, even without that user's consent. A user who wishes to have this flag generally should have created at least 25 articles and must be trusted, experienced, and must have demonstrated they are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, especially WP:BLP and Wikipedia:Notability.
- AutoWikiBrowser ( • view requests): AutoWikiBrowser is a semi-automated MediaWiki editor for Microsoft Windows, designed to make tedious repetitive tasks quicker and easier. It is essentially a browser that automatically opens up a new page when the last is saved. When set to do so, it suggests some changes (typically formatting) that are generally meant to be incidental to the main change. Please read the rules of use and registration requirements on the main page before requesting permission. This is not a true user right, but access needs to be granted by administrators just like other permissions. If approved, your name will be added to the CheckPage. Users with under 250 non-automated mainspace edits or 500 total mainspace edits are rarely approved. You will need to give a reason for wanting AWB access.
- Confirmed ( • view requests): The confirmed flag may be granted to new users who have not yet hit the threshold for autoconfirmed status. These are users who have not had both 10 edits and 4 days experience. People with this flag can upload files and edit semi-protected pages before hitting the autoconfirmed flag. Users requesting this flag must indicate clearly why they should be exempted from the customary confirmation period.
- Event coordinator ( • view requests): The event coordinator user right allows editors to create multiple new accounts, and to temporarily confirm accounts so that they can create new articles.
- Extended confirmed ( • view requests): The extended confirmed flag is normally automatically added to accounts after 500 edits and 30 days, but may be added to legitimate alternate accounts of users that already have this access. The flag allows users to edit pages under extended confirmed protection.
- File mover ( • view requests): The file mover user right is intended to allow users experienced in working with files to rename them, subject to policy, with the ease that autoconfirmed users already enjoy when renaming Wikipedia articles.
- Mass message sender ( • view requests): Mass message sender enables users to send messages to multiple users at once. This flag is given to users who have made requests for delivery in the past, clearly showing an understanding of the guidance for use.
- New page reviewer ( • view requests): The new page reviewer user right allows users to mark pages as patrolled and use the page curation toolbar. At administrators' discretion, the right may be accorded on a time limited basis or indefinite.
- Page mover ( • view requests): The page mover user right allows users experienced in working with article names to move them, subject to policy, without leaving behind a redirect. They may also move all subpages when moving the parent page(s). General guidelines include making 3,000 edits and 6 months of editing history. At administrators' discretion, the right may be accorded on a time limited basis or indefinite.
- Pending changes reviewer ( • view requests): The reviewer flag is granted to users who are experienced enough with Wikipedia editing and its policies for contributing to the process of reviewing articles placed under pending changes.
- Rollback ( • view requests): Rollback enables users to remove vandalism much more quickly and efficiently than by undoing it. Users who do not demonstrate an understanding of what constitutes capable vandalism fighting, either because they have no or little history of doing so, or show a poor ability to discern between good and bad faith edits will not be granted this right. Also, it is unlikely that editors with under 200 mainspace edits will have their request granted. For a more detailed explanation of rollback and information about when it is appropriate to use the tool, see Wikipedia:Rollback. For information about the technical details of the feature, see here.
- Template editor ( • view requests): The template editor flag allows users to edit protected templates and Lua modules. General guidelines for granting include making at least 1,000 edits overall (with at least 150 to templates or modules), being a registered user for over a year, and having a record of successfully proposing significant edits to several protected templates. Users should demonstrate proficiency with template syntax and an understanding of the need for caution when editing heavily-used templates.
Handled elsewhere
Several permissions are requested and handled elsewhere:
- Administrator and bureaucrat access: Requests for administrator or bureaucrat access need to be posted at requests for adminship and requests for bureaucratship, respectively.
- Bots: Request for bot flags should be made at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval.
- Edit filter: Requests for access to the edit filter manager group and the edit filter helper group should be made at Wikipedia:Edit filter noticeboard.
- Interface administrator: Requests for interface administrator access should be made at Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard. Only current administrators may become interface administrators.
- IP-block-exempt: While the IP-block-exempt right can be granted by administrators, this flag is not handled here. Requests for the IP-block exempt right should be submitted via the Unblock Ticket Request System or, if there are significant privacy concerns, email the checkuser team at checkuser-en-wpwikipedia.org or contact a CheckUser directly.
- Checkuser and Oversight: These rights are only granted by the Arbitration Committee, and only after strict scrutiny. More information can be found here.
- AfC reviewer: This access is granted by administrators at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Articles for creation/Participants.
- Redirect patrol whitelist: Addition to the whitelist is granted by administrators at Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Redirect whitelist.
- Steward permissions can only be granted in yearly elections, and are rarely given.
- Global permissions such as global renamer, sysop, IP block exempt, rollback, etc should be made at meta:Steward requests/Global permissions.
Removal of permissions
If you wish to have any of your permission flags (except administrator) removed, you should contact an administrator. If you want your administrator flag removed, you should contact a bureaucrat.
This is not the place to request review of another user's rights. If you believe someone's actions merit removal of a permission flag, you should raise your concern at the incidents noticeboard.
The bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight flags are removed at meta:Steward requests/Permissions. Stewards will typically not carry out such requests unless they are made on behalf of the Arbitration Committee, by a user who is requesting their own access be removed, or in cases of an emergency.
Process
Requestors
To make a request for a permission, click "add request" next to the appropriate header and fill in the reason for wanting permission.
Any editor may comment on requests for permission.
Administrators
Administrators are permitted to grant account creator, autopatrolled, confirmed, event coordinator, file mover, mass message sender, page mover, pending changes reviewer, rollback and template editor flags to any user who meets the criteria explained above and can be trusted not to abuse the tool(s). Administrators may either grant these permissions permanently or temporarily. For convenience, a bot will automatically comment with relevant data if the user does not meet configurable qualifications. Even if the bot does not comment, administrators should review the user's contributions and logs to ensure the tools will be used appropriately and check for any indication of potential misuse.
Once an administrator has granted a permission or decided to deny a request, they should add {{done}} or {{not done}} respectively under the request with their comments. If a user already has the requested permission, or is autoconfirmed and requesting confirmed, {{already done}} should be used. N hours after the last comment was made (as specified by the config), the request will be archived automatically: approved requests will be placed here; declined requests will go here. See User:MusikBot/PermClerk#Archiving for more information on archiving functionality.

I have created over 25 articles, none of which have been removed nor tagged. I'm planning on creating more, so having this right would hopefully lessen the backlog of reviewers. Harushiga (talk) 05:08, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
- Your articles look clean. Good work, Harushiga. Can you explain, though, what this was about? Schwede66 01:52, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
- I believe this was for my edit in Draft:Alice and Therese's Illusion Factory. I didn't reply to it because I wasn't sure if I even violated anything. I never copied anything verbatim, but I guess my paraphrasing of the article I cited was still close to the original for it to be a copyvio. Can't verify it since the edit history got hidden, and I already forgot how I wrote it. Harushiga (talk) 03:21, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for the swift reply, Harushiga. The issue was with this source:
- Draft: Tadashi Hiramatsu serving as the assistant director
- Source: Tadashi Hiramatsu is serving as the assistant director
- Draft: Yuriko Ishii designing the characters and serving as chief animation director
- Source: Yuriko Ishii ... designing the characters and serving as chief animation director
The other source listed has since been archived:
- Draft: Masaru Yokoyama composing the music
- Source: Masaru Yokoyama ... composing the music
That looks rather close, doesn't it? Schwede66 04:22, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
- Yep, nevermind what I said; it was a valid copyvio after all. I believe this is only a single occurrence, because getting the talk page message still made me more cautious, and I've since made sure to actually paraphrase information from the sources I use, at least with the articles I wrote. Harushiga (talk) 04:41, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
- Done I've run a few of your latest creations through Earwig and they were all clean. I thus assume that you've learned from it. I've assigned autopatrolled for 3 months and watchlisted your talk page; make sure that no copyvio complaints turn up during that time! Once the three months are up, put another request through and ping me. If you stay clean, we can then make it permanent. Schwede66 09:51, 17 June 2022 (UTC)

I have created around 50 articles. I am requesting autopatrolled rights so that new page reviewers doesn't have to spend time to review my pages. It would make their job a little easy, and they would be able to review other articles, which are actually needed. The NPR always has a huge backlog. Itcouldbepossible Talk 15:08, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
- Since 45 of those were created in the last two weeks and were mostly quickly-reviewed stubs, Not done for now. Thank you for thinking of the NPP backlog but we need to see a quite significantly longer track record. Also, unless you're only interested in creating stubs, we need to see long articles that show you're familiar with our content policies. – Joe (talk) 08:02, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot Joe for reviewing my request. Possibly you are right in thinking that I shouldn't have autopatrolled rights at this moment, but just to add, I have developed quite a few drafts extensively, and also a few articles. Some of them are Nayantara (TV series), Harano Sur (TV series) and Gaatchora. If you are talking about creating big articles, then I mostly focus on bengali TV shows, which you might already know from my user page. Those recent stub creations were create articles on the species of some things that which I had read about recently. I am currently being mentored by FormalDude, and you can see the mentorship here and here. I had requested for this right because if I go for creating stub like articles (though not all) in the future again, I don't have to contribute the NPR backlog again. If you have seen my talk page archive, then only once an issue was raised regarding one of my creations, that too a minor one, which is solved now. Would you suggest me when and after meeting what criteria I can reapply again, and the request would get accepted. Thanks again for you kind explanation. Sincerely, Itcouldbepossible Talk 11:38, 17 June 2022 (UTC)

I mostly create article related to Nepalese politicians and Nepalese people. I'm quite confused about the length as i have to be honest here that most of my articles are stub when i create them and i contribute only by getting more information. If i am not qualified not a worry as i'll keep contributing by just thought thought to apply it as it will surely help not to create more backlog. Regards, DIVINE 📪 20:09, 10 June 2022 (UTC)

I have completed 39 articles in which only 1 has been deleted. I wrote mostly articles about the drama and film industry. And I'm also working on articles of terrorism, law and Islam. My articles are always clean. Some of them are mentioned: 2022 BJP Muhammad remarks controversy, Meray Humnasheen (TV series) , Once Upon a Time in Karachi, Dil-e-Veeran and Rangeelay Jasoos (1989). Being doing manually regex for wrong header section (external links instead of references). Already did over two thousands in a couple of weeks (check my contribs), also double checked the results and split the wrong headers into two when they had mixed content (especially on the last 3 years articles). I saw there were no such cases of splitting headers going further back, just normal regex and so there's no use for a manually action anymore, it could be done automatically to quickening these regexs, and looking around i've found the AWB tool, which i've already checked on his manual of use, technical and rules of use, and it seems pretty much what i was looking for. Also i like the step by step process, so i can still double check the results one by one. Cheers Opencross (talk) 16:09, 30 May 2022 (UTC)

I'd like to do specific tasks in a way that is both automated and supervised (i.e. I review the edits before they are performed), and I think that AWB would be faster to configure than writing a bot task with the same purpose. I am planning on using AutoWikiBrowser to categorize pages gathered from related categories using keywords and data from infoboxes and to tag sourceless/one-source pages with the respectful maintenance tags. Hello, I'm BlueFalling. I'm an avid wikihow editor and I was told that I should edit Wikipedia. I mainly fix typos, and apparently this bot is excellent for that. I would use the typo extension and double check the typos to make sure it only corrects valid ones. It seems like a waste of time to fix typos manually when it would be much faster with this bot.
Thank you! I look forward to raising the quality of articles, :)

During that time, I have gained experience editing some fringe and contentious topics, which has helped hone my skills in recognizing the quality of cited sources, as well as the ability to recognize and deal with vandalism, disruptive editing, and edit warring. I have gained similar experience editing in the WP:BLP space, and the tighter range of requirements there. Last year, as part of my participation in the Television project, I revived the Westerns project, which gave me experience in working with and creating tracking/maintenance categories as well as article assessment. My participation in the Television project led to my gaining experience with AutoWikiBrowser, and I have used that tool to effectively update many of the articles in the project that appear in the various maintenance categories. I would enjoy another way to use my existing experience to further the project's goals. I believe strongly in trying to encourage newer editors in how to properly edit within the principles and guidelines of Wikipedia, because the only way WP grows is if we continue to turn new editors into experienced editors. I am on Wikipedia nearly every day. ButlerBlog (talk) 18:20, 10 June 2022 (UTC)

I originally sought a career as a new page reviewer because I wanted to become a more well-rounded editor. At that time, though, I thought I was lacking the skills (my CSDs were G11s and U5s in userspace, I only had one meaningful AfD which was closed soft-delete, and no PRODs). So, I applied at WP:NPPS and came under the training of Atsme for ~20 days, then graduated (located here). Per Atsme's recommendations, I would only like to have this right for a 3 month trial, then request again in September if my patrols were good. Of course, this is only at the discretion of the administrator. Thank you. — 3PPYB6 — TALK — CONTRIBS — 15:05, 14 June 2022 (UTC)

- Not done. Please see the notice at the top of this page. With only 78 mainspace edits, you don't meet the minimum requirements for granting. Please come back when you have the experience required for administrators to review your edits. — JJMC89 (T·C) 01:56, 17 June 2022 (UTC)

Hi. I have been a regular editor in writing new articles or improving the existing ones. Sometimes I face challenges in moving new articles as there has been wrong redirects earlier on the names of new articles. Request permission as page mover to correct such issues to make Wikepedia a reliable source for getting information on right article. Thanks. Gardenkur (talk) 11:50, 27 May 2022 (UTC)
- Can you point to any cases in which this has occurred? It looks like you applied for six different permissions over two or three days last month, but I do not see any past requests at WP:RMTR and it appears that nearly all of your previous moves are moving pages out of your userspace. This is troubling given that a number of those previous articles were deleted as promotional. Dekimasuよ! 02:31, 4 June 2022 (UTC)

Requesting the rights as my temporary PM rights expired after 3 months. In the first 2 months, I significantly contributed in the RM space and made a number of closes. So far, I hadn't run into any kind of trouble or disagreements with my moves and closes. As of late, I regularly monitored, "New users moving page out of userspace" tag in which the suppress redirect right was particularly helpful. In May, however, my activity dropped significantly due to my final examinations, which are due to end on 7th June, upon which I intend to return to my past activity levels, and thus need this right. Thanks! —CX Zoom[he/him] (let's talk • {C•X}) 10:58, 29 May 2022 (UTC)

I've been doing what I can to help reduce the backlog on the requested move list, but there are quite a few where I'm unable to move the page owing to a redirect on the target page or other issues and so I'm limited with how much I'm able to help. I've got a lot of experience with requested moves despite not quite having 3000 edits, and I'd be happy for the perms to be temporary while there's such a large backlog if that'd be more acceptable. Turnagra (talk) 00:06, 4 June 2022 (UTC)
- Help with the backlog would be great. If this is granted on a temporary basis, I would caution against performing moves related to place names for now, since that might actually result in more work in the end (WP:NACINV). Dekimasuよ! 02:20, 4 June 2022 (UTC)

I'm an active editor on wikipedia with about 4000 automated edits and 1000 non-automated edits. I mostly work on articles involving plants so I don't see a lot of vandalism but I have come across it and corrected it during my time as an active editor. I log into Wikipedia a few times a day to work on projects and author articles so I'm fairly active and can check articles that need reviewing quickly. I would also like to be more active in identifying and countering vandalism. I'm human and have made some mistakes, for example I once created a request to delete an article about a local gas station because I couldn't find evidence that it was a historical location Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shell Gas Station. Once I discovered my mistake I owned it, explained what happened, the process I took that lead to my decision, and apologized for wasting everyone's time. Thank you for you time and consideration, if there are any questions or concerns please let me know Dr vulpes (💬 • 📝) 07:28, 14 June 2022 (UTC)

I have been an active editor since June 2021, and have recently been doing counter-vandalism work. However, I would also like to review articles with pending changes as they are also prone to non-constructive edits. Harushiga (talk) 17:56, 14 June 2022 (UTC)
