Hello - I am a new editor and a bit lost, so forgive me. I was a member of the knickerbocker greys. Your questioning of the name has made me wish to debate. While the greys operated as a private group with tuition it also had scholarships and has become more diverse. To say that knickerbocker referred to "aristocracy" is not supported by the history of the name which encompasses the NY Knicks. Certainly, an upper East Side organization can be called aristocracy but the greys should be viewed as more than that and is in fact more open than the term aristocracy might convey. Sloanish
