Requested moves is a process for requesting the retitling (moving) of an article, template, or project page on Wikipedia. (For retitling files, categories and other items, see When not to use this page.)
Please read the article titling policy and the guideline regarding primary topics before moving a page or requesting a page move.
Any autoconfirmed user can use the Move function to perform most moves (see Help:How to move a page). If you have no reason to expect a dispute concerning a move, be bold and move the page. However, it may not always be possible or desirable to do this:
- Technical reasons may prevent a move: a page may already exist at the target title and require deletion, or the page may be protected from moves. See: § Requesting technical moves.
- Requests to revert recent, undiscussed, controversial moves may be made at WP:RM/TR. If the new name has not become the stable title, the undiscussed move will be reverted. If the new name has become the stable title, a requested move will be needed to determine the article's proper location.
- A title may be disputed, and discussion may be necessary to reach consensus: see § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. The requested moves process is not mandatory, and sometimes an informal discussion at the article's talk page can help reach consensus.
- Unregistered users and new (not yet autoconfirmed) users are unable to move pages.
Requests are generally processed after seven days. If consensus is reached at or after this time, a reviewer will enact the request. If not, the request may be re-listed to allow more time for consensus to develop, or the discussion closed as "no consensus". See Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions for more details on the process.
Wikipedia:Move review can be used to contest the outcome of a move request as long as all steps are followed. If a discussion on the closer's talk page does not resolve an issue, then a move review will evaluate the close of the move discussion to determine whether or not the contested close was reasonable and consistent with the spirit and intent of common practice, policies, and guidelines.
When not to use this page
Separate processes exist for moving certain types of pages, and for changes other than page moves:
- Making an uncontroversial move – if you can, be bold and do it yourself! If you can't, see § Requesting technical moves.
- Renaming a category – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming a stub template – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming an image or other file – see Wikipedia:Moving a page § Moving a file page.
- Moves from draft namespace or user space – (new/unconfirmed users only) add
{{subst:submit}}
to the top of the article. See Wikipedia:Articles for creation. - Merging two articles – make a request at Wikipedia:Proposed mergers, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Requesting that page histories be merged – list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge.
- Contesting a move request close – use the Wikipedia:Move review process.
Undiscussed moves
Autoconfirmed editors may move a page without discussion if all of the following apply:
- No article exists at the new target title;
- There has been no discussion (especially no recent discussion) about the title of the page that expressed any objection to a new title; and
- It seems unlikely that anyone would reasonably disagree with the move.
If you disagree with such a move, and the new title has not been in place for a long time, you may revert the move. If you cannot revert the move for technical reasons, then you may request a technical move.
Move wars are disruptive, so if you make a bold move and it is reverted, do not make the move again. Instead, follow the procedures laid out in § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves.
Requesting technical moves
If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct page if you tried to move a page, and you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:".
![]() If you are here because you want an admin to approve of your new article or your proposed page move, you are in the wrong place.

- To list a technical request: the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the top of the list, filling in pages and reason:
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new page title|reason=reason for move}}
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page. - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves
The discussion process is used for potentially controversial moves. A move is potentially controversial if either of the following applies:
- there has been any past debate about the best title for the page;
- someone could reasonably disagree with the move.
Use this process if there is any reason to believe a move would be contested. For technical move requests, such as to correct obvious typographical errors, see Requesting technical moves. The technical moves procedure can also be used for uncontroversial moves when the requested title is occupied by an existing article.
Do not create a new move request when one is already open on the same talk page. Instead, consider contributing to the open discussion if you would like to propose another alternative. Multiple closed move requests may be on the same page, but each should have a unique section heading.
Do not create a move request to rename one or more redirects. Redirects cannot be used as current titles in requested moves.
Requesting a single page move
To request a single page move, click on the "New section" tab of the talk page of the article you want moved, without adding a new subject/header, inserting this code:
{{subst:requested move|NewName|reason=Place here your rationale for the proposed page name change, ideally referring to applicable naming convention policies and guidelines, and providing evidence in support where appropriate. If your reasoning includes search engine results, please prioritize searches limited to reliable sources (e.g. books, news, scholarly papers) over other web results. You don't need to add your signature at the end, as this template will do so automatically.}}
Replace NewName
with the requested new name of the page (or with a simple question mark, if you want more than one possible new name to be considered). The template will automatically create the heading "Requested move 31 May 2021" and sign the post for you.
There is no need to edit the article in question. Once the above code is added to the Talk page, a bot will automatically add the following notification at the top of the article:
Note: Unlike other request processes on Wikipedia, such as Requests for comment, nominations need not be neutral. Make your point as best you can; use evidence (such as Google Ngrams and pageview statistics) and refer to applicable policies and guidelines, especially our article titling policy and the guideline on disambiguation and primary topics.
WikiProjects may subscribe to Article alerts to receive RM notifications. For example, Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Article alerts/Requested moves is transcluded to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Biography. RMCD bot notifies many of the other Wikiprojects listed on the talk page of the article to be moved to invite project members to participate in the RM discussion. Requesters should feel free to notify any other Wikiproject or noticeboard that might be interested in the move request, as long as this notification is neutral.
Single page move on a different talk page
Occasionally, a move request must be made on a talk page other than the talk page of the page to be moved. For example, a request to rename Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Resources to Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Reviewing and templates would need to take place at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Articles for creation because the talk page of the project page to be moved, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Articles for creation/Resources, is a redirect to that centralized discussion page. In this type of case, the requested move should be made using the following code:
{{subst:requested move|reason=(the reason for the page move goes here).|current1=(present title of page to be renamed)|new1=(proposed title of page)}}
Note that the |1=
unnamed parameter is not used, and that the |current1=
and |new1=
parameters are used similar to multiple page moves described below.
Requesting multiple page moves
A single template may be used to request multiple related moves. On one of the talk pages of the affected articles, create a request and format it as below. A sample request for three page moves is shown here (for two page moves, omit the lines for current3 and new3). For four page moves, add lines for current4 and new4, and so on. There is no technical limit on the number of multiple move requests, but before requesting very large multi-moves, consider whether a naming convention should be changed first. Discuss that change on the talk page for the naming convention, e.g., Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (sportspeople).
To request a multiple page move, edit at the bottom of the talk page of the article you chose for your request, without adding a new header, inserting this code:
{{subst:requested move
| current1 = Current title of page 1
| new1 = New title for page 1 with the talk page hosting this discussion
| current2 = Current title of page 2
| new2 = New title for page 2
| current3 = Current title of page 3
| new3 = New title for page 3
| reason = Place here your rationale for the proposed page name change, ideally referring to applicable naming convention policies and guidelines, and providing evidence in support where appropriate. If your reasoning includes search engine results, please prioritize searches limited to reliable sources (e.g. books, news, scholarly papers) over other web results. You don't need to add your signature at the end, as this template will do so automatically.}}
For example, to propose moving the articles Wikipedia
and Wiki
, put this template on Talk:Wikipedia
, and replace current2
with Wiki
. The discussion for all affected articles is held on the talk page of the article at page 1 (Talk:Wikipedia
). Do not sign a request with ~~~~
as the template does this automatically. Do not skip pairs of numbers.
RMCD bot automatically places a notice section on the talk page of the additional pages that are included in your request, advising that the move discussion is in progress, where it is, and that all discussion for all pages included in the request should take place at that one location.
Occasionally the discussions for significant multi-move requests may be hosted on WikiProject talk pages or other pages in Project namespace. For multi-move discussions hosted on a page which is not itself proposed to be moved, specify |current1=Current title of page 1
for the first page to move.
Request all associated moves explicitly
Please list every move that you wish to have made in your request. For example, if you wish to move Cricket (disambiguation) to Cricket because you do not believe the sport is the primary topic for the search term "Cricket", then you actually want to move two pages, both Cricket (disambiguation) and Cricket. Thus you must list proposed titles for each page affected by your request. For example, you might propose:
If a new title is not proposed for the sport, it is more difficult to achieve consensus for a new title for that article. A move request that does not show what to do with the material at its proposed target, such as:
is incomplete. Such requests may be completed as a request to decide the best new title by discussion.

Commenting on a requested move
All editors are welcome to contribute to the discussion regarding a requested page move. There are a number of standards that Wikipedians should practice in such discussions:
- When editors recommend a course of action, they write Support or Oppose in bold text, which is done by surrounding the word with three single quotes on each side, e.g.
'''Support'''
. - Comments or recommendations are added on a new bulleted line (that is, starting with *) and signed by adding
~~~~
to the end. Responses to another editor are threaded and indented using multiple bullets. - The article itself should be reviewed before any recommendation is made; do not base recommendations solely on the information supplied by other editors. It may also help to look at the article's edit history. However, please read the earlier comments and recommendations, as well as prior move requests. They may contain relevant arguments and useful information.
- Vested interests in the article should be disclosed per Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI.
When participating, please consider the following:
- Editors should make themselves familiar with the article titling policy at Wikipedia:Article titles.
- Other important guidelines that set forth community norms for article titles include Wikipedia:Disambiguation, specific naming conventions, and the manual of style.
- The debate is not a vote; please do not make recommendations that are not sustained by arguments.
- Explain how the proposed article title meets or contravenes policy and guidelines rather than merely stating that it does so.
- Nomination already implies that the nominator supports the name change, and nominators should refrain from repeating this recommendation on a separate bulleted line.[a]
- Do not make conflicting recommendations. If you change your mind, use strike-through to retract your previous statement by enclosing it between <s> and </s> after the bullets, and de-bold the struck words, as in "•
SupportOppose".
Please remember that reasonable editors will sometimes disagree, but that arguments based in policy, guidelines, and evidence have more weight than unsupported statements. When an editor offers an argument that does not explain how the move request is consistent with policies and guidelines, a reminder to engage in constructive, on-topic discussion may be useful. On the other hand, a pattern of responding to requests with groundless opinion, proof by assertion, and ignoring content guidelines may become disruptive. If a pattern of disruptive behavior persists after efforts are made to correct the situation through dialogue, please consider using a dispute resolution process.
Closing a requested move
Any uninvolved editor in good standing may close a move request. Please read the closing instructions for information on how to close a move request. The Simple guide to closing RM discussions details how to actually close a requested move discussion.
Relisting a requested move
Relisting a discussion moves the request out of the backlog up to the current day in order to encourage further input. The decision to relist a discussion is best left to uninvolved experienced editors upon considering, but declining, to close the discussion. In general, discussions should not be relisted more than once before properly closing.[b] Users relisting a debate which has already been relisted, or relisting a debate with a substantial discussion, should write a short explanation on why they did not consider the debate sufficient to close. While there is no consensus forbidding participation in a requested move discussion after relisting it, many editors consider it an inadvisable form of supervote. If you want to relist a discussion and then participate in it, be prepared to explain why you think it was appropriate.
Relisting can be done using {{subst:relisting}}
, which automatically includes the relister's signature, and which must be placed at the very end of the initial request after the move requester's signature (and subsequent relisters' signatures). When a discussion has been relisted a bot partially underlines the "Discuss" link in the lists of debates: (Discuss).
When a relisted discussion reaches a resolution, it may be closed at any time according to the closing instructions; there is no required length of time to wait before closing a relisted discussion.
If discussion has become stale, or it seems that discussion would benefit from more input of editors versed in the subject area, consider more widely publicizing the discussion, such as by notifying WikiProjects of the discussion using the template {{RM notification}}. Banners placed at the top of the talk page hosting the move request can often be used to identify WikiProjects suitable for notification.
Notes
- ^ A nominator making a procedural nomination with which they may not agree is free to add a bulleted line explaining their actual position. Additional detail, such as sources, may also be provided in an additional bullet point if its inclusion in the nomination statement would make the statement unwieldy. Please remember that the entire nomination statement is transcluded into the list on this page.
- ^ Despite this, discussions are occasionally relisted more than once.
- (Discuss) – Lee Tae-min → Taemin – Taemin is referred to by only his first name in English speaking media. In Korean media, he's referred to as "Lee Taemin", "Taemin of Shinee" or "TAEMIN" (stylized) but this is irrelevant on English Wikipedia. Other Korean idol soloists also have their pages under their mononym, e.g. Sunmi, Taeyeon, Baekhyun. There are other people with the given name Taemin on English Wikipedia, but there are also several articles about people named Taeyeon and Sunmi and a Tae-min_(name) disambiguation page already exists. - (Discuss) – Template:R from related word → Template:R from related term – "Word" does not capture that this rcat applies also to related phrases, so "term" is a much better descriptor. The proposed move target currently redirects to Template:R from related topic, but "term" refers to a word or phrase, not necessarily a topic, and could serve as a better differentiation between the similar rcats ("topic" for words or phrases that could be separate articles, "term" for words or phrases unlikely to warrant separate treatment and are not alternative names). The previous requested move above was withdrawn due to fear of miscategorization of redirects, but many redirects are already improperly categorized as {{R from related topic}} which would be fixed by this move. In any case, the affected redirects have been boldly retargeted between the two several times over the years apparently without any issue. This move will improve categorization of redirects going forward. Mdewman6 (talk) 02:34, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Battle of the Netherlands → Invasion of the Netherlands – By far the WP:COMMONNAME, see NGRAMS[13] or Google Scholar results[14][15] Although there have been other invasions of the Netherlands' predecessor states, none of them is called "invasion of the Netherlands", so I believe this one is the WP:PT. Otherwise, it could be moved to Invasion of the Netherlands (1940) or German invasion of the Netherlands (which is still more common than "battle" according to both NGRAMS[16] and Google Scholar.[17]) — (t · c) buidhe 15:24, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – German invasion of Belgium → Invasion of Belgium (1914) – The word "German" doesn't help to disambiguate here, because Belgium was invaded again by Germany in 1940. Both events are most often called "invasion of Belgium" in reliable sources. The name "invasion" is more common than "German invasion" according to NGRAMS[18] (t · c) buidhe 15:14, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Battle of Belgium → Invasion of Belgium (1940) – Both Google NGRAMS[19] and Google Scholar[20][21][22] indicate that "invasion" is by far the most common name for the 1940 German invasion of Belgium. - (Discuss) – Episode 1.1 (Primeval) → Episode 1 (Primeval season 1) – These situations are pretty rare, but even so, the current titles aren't great. The Skins series of episode titles, such as Tony (Skins series 1) (full list at Category:Skins (British TV series) episodes) are disambiguated with (series-name series/season #) which works for these two episodes as well and keeps a WP:CONSISTENT style for such episodes. - (Discuss) – Religious Zionist Party → National Union–Tkuma – The page was recently moved by David O. Johnson to the current title. I believe there is confusion between a political party and an electoral list. The article is about the party established in 1998, first known as "Tkuma", and now renamed to "National Union". But "The Religious Zionism" is the name of electoral list established in 2021, which include three parties: National Union, Otzma Yehudit, and Noam. The Central Elections Committee website shows that "The Religious Zionism" list consists of several parties including "National Union–Tkuma". It's explained in Hebrew articles here and here. - (Discuss) – Lega Autonomia Lombarda → Lega per l'Autonomia – Alleanza Lombarda – "Lega per l'Autonomia – Alleanza Lombarda" is the real name of this party, "Lega Alleanza Lombarda" or "Lega Autonomia Lombarda" are abbreviations sometimes used by Italian newspapers. An abbreviation as title of the page would be justifiable if it were the most common name, but this is certainly not the case. Scia Della Cometa (talk) 12:48, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Courage Italy → Coraggio Italia – Practically inappropriate translation of the original name, the Italian name of the party cannot literally be translated into English, its meaning is: "Come on Italy" or "Cheer up Italy". Scia Della Cometa (talk) 12:12, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Early European modern humans → Upper Palaeolithic Europe – "Early European modern humans" was a title created to talk about early modern humans in Europe, which in itself is a poorly defined term (like how early is "early"?) The article has since mushroomed out to encompass all Upper Paleolithic cultures in Europe, from the beginning of the Upper Paleolithic to the beginning of the Mesolithic. Therefore, Upper Palaeolithic Europe would be a much more apt and descriptive title for the article content. User:Joe Roe has already contested this above because "it should also include information on the chronology, climate, cultures, key sites, that kind of thing" but I want to point out there is literally already a section called Chronology which includes climate and introduces the major cultures, and key sites are brought up where relevant (like Cueva de Altamira in Art) User:Dunkleosteus77 |push to talk 19:37, 9 May 2021 (UTC) —Relisting. The two state parks are now operated together under one name, "Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine State Park". "Lake Vermilion State Park" article was moved to "Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine State Park". The "Soudan Underground Mine State Park" is significantly larger and and has a much more detailed history than the current "Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine State Park" article stub. Another possibility is invasion of Greece (1941), but German invasion of Greece is actually more common than "Battle of Greece" on ngrams[35]. - (Discuss) – De-rhotacism → Rhotic speech errors – Last week's requested move was incorrect, "de-rhotacism" is not used in literature, only existing in one paper [36] and a handful of forum posts. "De-rhotacization" is occasionally used to refer to the speech impediment but is not the common name, being mainly used to refer to incidental /r/ changes in studies of dialects. There are two common names that exist for this subject: * "Rhotacism" (preferred by older sources, still widespread) [37][38][39][40] * "Rhotic speech errors" (or "Rhotic errors"). This source (page 9) explicitly says that "Rhotic speech errors" is the preferred term in modern speech pathology: "clients with rhotic speech errors (formerly termed rhotacism) – Rhotacism was a traditional term within speech pathology". - (Discuss) – List of Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launches → List of Falcon 9 launches' – During a recent requested move discussion for List of Falcon 9 first-stage boosters, a consensus was formed that the differences between the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy aren't significant enough for "Falcon Heavy" to appear in the title of the article. One of the opposing arguments even brought up a source in which SpaceX describes the Falcon Heavy's core and side stages as "three Falcon 9 first stages with enhancements provided to strengthen the cores." This is very much contradictory to this articles title, List of Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launches, and previous discussions which asserted that the differences between the two vehicles are sufficent enough for "Falcon Heavy" to be in the title. So, re-litigating this issue at the expense of yet another requested move discussion on this page, I'd like to find some sort of consensus as to which of these two contradicting and mutually exclusive ideas should be accepted going forward, for the sake of WP:TITLECON. — Molly Brown (talk) 05:20, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
See: iPad (1st generation) through iPad (4th generation), iPad (8th generation), and every other iPad without a specific name (eg, iPad Mini (5th generation)). They are also the most likely common names going forward, following Apple's naming conventions of recent years. The only exception appears to be the iPad (2017), as "5th generation" was initially confused with the iPad Air on release (as the Air was Apple's fifth full-sized iPad), but I suspect that this confusion has likely mostly gone by now, and the Air is seen as its own product line. That article was recently the subject of a brief move discussion, so I understand if people feel that it should remain, but I don't believe the same argument applies to the two later models. — HTGS (talk) 03:02, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Greek conquests in India → Greek campaigns in the Indian Subcontinent – This page should be titled Greek campaigns in the Indian Subcontinent. The contents of this page generally refers to the campaigns of various Hellenistic entities, not all of them directly resulted in conquests. Starting with Alexander the Great, he is certainly credited for conquering up to the Beas River during his illustrious campaigns. Seleucid however ceded vast expanses of land in the Seleucid-Maurya War, this campaign ultimately resulted in a loss instead of a conquest. Of the Indo-Greeks, Demetrius is noted for being a conquer while Menander was an expansionist during their campaigns, the other recorded kings either maintained or ceded land. This nomenclature is supported by both historical and scholarly references. The ancient Greek historian Arrian compiled the The Anabasis of Alexander or Campaigns of Alexander. This is the most reliable historical account of the ordeal and refers to Alexanders campaigns. It includes the vast territorial conquest during Alexanders campaigns, but also other details such as mutiny. Other references and even the wiki page refers to this as Campaigns of Alexander and the Indian campaign of Alexander the Great respectively. Even though Alexander's campaigns and successes are synonymous with conquest, that was just the outcome of his campaigns. This seemingly small difference is more profound in the other examples. Sir William Woodthorpe Tarn wrote extensively on the history of Greeks in India, and is one of the most referenced modern works on this subject. In in his work The Greeks in Bactria & India pg 131 Tarn stated "The Greek 'conquest' of India was hardly a conquest in the ordinary sense of the word, the sense in which Alexander conquered Persia". When addressing the Indo-Greeks Tarn notes that Demetrius led conquests during the early stages of his campaigns. Menander expanded the Indo-Greek domain to its extant but this annexation was far more complex due to welcoming alliances. Furthermore the other Indo-Greek rulers assimilated and governed in individual poleis or joined local republics during their campaigns and assimilated. Sir William Woodthorpe Tarn was deliberate to differentiate the different campaigns and their results, thus opposed to a general use of conquest on this subject. Using the current title is limiting and it is not entirely accurate as it brushes over historical details. A google search for Greek conquests in India specifically results to this Wikipedia page and not scholarly or historical works supporting the grouping. Comparatively, there are more literature and scholarly references to the various Greek campaigns in India such as Sir William Tarn's works. Using campaigns is not only more accurate, but it is also more credible as compared to this Wikipedia being the primary reference. Furthermore, I believe that this page should ideally use Indian Subcontinent instead of India, as most of these campaigns occurred in the Greater Punjab region which includes modern day Pakistan. - (Discuss) – Zod gold mine → Sotk gold mine – The WP:COMMONNAME of the gold mine is very obviously the Sotk gold mine, not the Zod gold mine. The town of Sotk, located in Armenia, was once inhabited by Azerbaijanis, but the gold mine itself has always been operated by Armenians in Armenia under the Armenian name Sotk. Let's do a quick search on Google and Google Scholar: "Sotk gold mine" brings up 33,200 and 116 results on the platforms respectively, while "Zod gold mine" has a mere 772 and 9 results. Interestingly, the lion's share of results that display "Zod" also happen to inhumanely display Armenians as thieves and charlatans. For example, the Iranian Azeri photographer Reza Deghati boasts on Twitter that "the armenian occupants have looted the Azerbaijani part of the ZOD gold mine", even though the gold mine was illegitimately occupied by Azerbaijan after the 2020 NK war ceased. Alternatively, "KavkazPlus", a notorious Georgian far-right site known for denigrating Armenians worldwide, proudly declares, "Zod gold deposit in Kelbajar region is freed from Armenian marauders". As objectively illegal as the annexation of Az. territories by Armenian forces after the First NK war was by international law, as illegal is the forceful occupation of the Sotk gold mine by Azerbaijan. Thus, the legitimate names should be used in both situations. And the legitimate name for the Sotk gold mine is Sotk and nothing but Sotk. BaxçeyêReş (talk) 20:26, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Lockbox → Lockbox (accounts receivable) – If there is a primary topic for "lockbox", it is safe or vault or locker – i.e., a box that can be locked, not a banking service for processing incoming payments (a usage of the term that most people have never even heard of). In everyday reality, a "lockbox" is primarily a place for the figurative or literal safekeeping of items, as famously promoted by U.S. presidential candidates Al Gore and George W. Bush (please click that link, it's worth a loook!), e.g., as reported in this article in the Los Angeles Times (and discussed in several different Wikipedia articles, such as at 2000 United States presidential election § Notable expressions and phrases). Another potential title I thought about was "Lockbox (banking)", but that would also not be clear at all, since banks also have safe deposit boxes and bank vaults, which are lockboxes. Since there are different types of lockboxes, it may be best to create a disambiguation page with the various meanings (also including other meanings such as the one related to information security & cryptography, real estate lock box a.k.a. key box, post office box, Amazon Locker, and Packstation. — BarrelProof (talk) 15:49, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
I summarized the reasons for moving back here a month ago, without an answer. This will serve as the formal move request. Shmayo (talk) 14:04, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Rawlings Gold Glove Award → Gold Glove Award – Move per the WP:CONCISE policy. It is more often referred to without the sponsor name. There are 891 indirect links (redirects) to this page, versus 630 directly using "Rawlings".[67] Of those direct links, a lot are piped to "Gold Glove Award", inflating direct links when editors are compelled to go against MOS:NOPIPE. For an independent example, The Dickson Baseball Dictionary has its entry under plain "Gold Glove Award".[68] There are no ambiguity concerns, as no other distinct topics on WP have "Gold Glove" in their title.[69] This page was moved in 2007 to include "Rawlings" with the rationale
The Rawlings Gold Glove Award is a service mark registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark office and is owned by Rawlings Sporting Goods. Rawlings is the sole sponsor.
All five WP:CRITERIA are served by using the spelling that conforms to the Ukrainian National romanization as recommended by WP:UKR, which represents the official Latin-alphabet spelling and the international standard adopted by the UNGEGN and BGN/PCGN. This spelling also corresponds to the widely-used modified Library of Congress romanization (omitting diacritics and primes). - (Discuss) – Sheikh Jarrah property dispute → Evictions of Palestinians in Sheikh Jarrah – The current title is on the extreme end of the POV spectrum, and this is attested to by several reliable sources. Among them: *Euronews: One of the sparks that lit the fuse of the latest conflict came from a small neighbourhood in East Jerusalem, where Israeli settlers are working to evict Palestinian families. What is happening in Sheikh Jarrah has been characterised by the settlers and their supporters as a mere property dispute. *Raja Shehadeh in The New Yorker: Israel argues that the situation in Sheikh Jarrah is merely a straightforward property dispute. In fact, what it demonstrates, above all, is the city’s endemic discrimination. *The Scotsman: The 23-year-olds live and work near the embattled Palestinian neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah in East Jerusalem, which is the focus of an attempt to remove Palestinian families from their homes, in what the Israeli government terms a “property dispute”. The other side of that POV spectrum calls this "property dispute" "ethnic cleansing". But non-partisan sources have generally characterized the events as expulsions or evictions. Expulsions is my preference given the usage by third-party organizations such as the United Nations, but that was rejected above. Regardless, "evictions" is a marked improvement over characterizing what the UN and human rights organizations have called a potential war crime in to some "property dispute". Sources that support "evictions" include: *AP: She and her husband, empty nesters with grown children of their own, may have to leave it all behind on Aug. 1. That’s when Israel is set to forcibly evict them following a decades-long legal battle waged by ideological Jewish settlers against them and their neighbors. *CBS News: One of the factors that led to the current violence in Israel and Gaza is the possible eviction of 13 Palestinian families from the Skeikh Jarrah neighborhood in the disputed territory of east Jerusalem. *NY Times: The effort to evict six Arab families from a contested neighborhood has drawn attention to the Israeli effort to remove Palestinians from parts of East Jerusalem and led to protests. *Times of Israel: The Supreme Court, amid daily violent clashes in East Jerusalem, has canceled a hearing scheduled for Monday that could have determined whether four Palestinian families in the city’s Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood will be evicted. And historically: *Lawyers without Borders report on housing rights in Sheikh Jarrah: has a section on "the Sheikh Jarrah evictions" I think evictions is, like property dispute, a bit of propaganda in that it downplays a matter of international law in an occupied territory to some mere civil case to be settled by municipal authorities, but property disputes is on a whole other level in terms of its disingenuousness. Finally, the current title, besides being a blatant violation of WP:POVNAME, fails WP:COMMONNAME. "sheikh jarrah" "property dispute" returns 1140 google news results. "Sheikh jarrah" "evictions" returns 47,400. nableezy - 14:01, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Voiced labialized-velar approximant → Voiced labial–velar approximant – [w], [ʍ] and [ɥ] appear under the proposed names on the IPA chart.† The articles about plosives were boldly moved from "stop" to "plosive" to make them in line with the IPA terminology last year (which I welcome and which was approved implicitly by others in this RM), yet the same user who moved the plosive articles reverted the proposed moves, saying "not coarticulated, but 2ary articulation". Although some instances of the sounds discussed may indeed be more accurately described as labialized velar/palatal than as co-articulated from a purely phonetic point of view, we do not know if this is true in all languages reported to have these sounds. When an underdocumented language is reported to have e.g. /w/ in its inventory and that's all we have to go by, there's no way to tell if it's better described as labialized velar or velarized labial, and if our article on [w] is named one way, we have no choice but to include that information either in no article about a phonetic sound or in the one named "labialized velar", which is misleading to readers at best and misrepresentative of the source at worst. Naming our articles using broader categories allows us to represent reliable sources more flexibly and thus more accurately. In fact that's what we already do in these articles about phonetic sounds. We might not know the exact specific phonetic configurations for each sound reported, but using the broad taxonomic categories employed by the IPA, we can stick to what's reported in our sources and provide finer language-specific details where available. This was also the motive for merging articles about "voiceless approximants", a category not all linguists accept, which made it impossible to classify some reports of sounds emphatically as either approximant or fricative. Moreover, the IPA defines the value of each letter not by specific physical attributes but by broad categories informed by the distinctive feature theory (IPA Handbook, pp. 37–8), and "[w] in one language might be revealed to be a velarized labial because it alternates with [b], yet be pronounced identically to [w] in another language that is revealed to be a labialized velar because it alternates with [g]" (Zsiga 2020: 122). † Except the IPA chart uses hyphens, not en dashes. The proposed names are consistent with the existing articles in Category:Labial–velar consonants etc. Also notice the inconsistency between the current names of the first article under discussion and the rest (hyphen vs. space). - (Discuss) – List of saints of the Canary Islands → List of Catholic saints and beatified people of the Canary Islands – Two weeks ago, Veverve made all of the moves proposed here and then listed the old titles for deletion at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2021 May 7#Other lists of Catholic saints. Those moves met with significant controversy, so I requested that they be reverted and opened this discussion. Veverve made these moves because 1) the articles (by their own admission) list only Catholic saints, yet are at titles implying they are lists of all saints; 2) are not precise; and 3) are not standardized. Raised objections include that the proposed targets are a clunky compromise that is neither precise nor concise and that some of these areas have insignificant bodies of non-Catholic Christians who recognize saints. Personally, I support standardization of the titles but am neutral about the current proposals; I would like to hear feedback from others. —Compassionate727 (T·C) 17:17, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – TVA → TVA (disambiguation) – Acronym is most suitable for primary redirect of top viewed article with this acronym Tennessee Valley Authority, as the company logo and weblink involves it rather than the full name, and the company is synonymous with the acronym in history publications and pop culture such as the film 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?' and in the country music scene including Alabama and the Drive-By Truckers.[2][3] Also see claims made by first move attempt supporter, and notice that the Tennessee Valley Authority is almost consistently the top article in views with this acronym, excluding Time Variance Authority, which appears to surpass the Tennessee Valley Authority due to its appearance in recent Marvel Cinematic Universe productions, which will probably see a temporary increase over the Tennessee Valley Authority article due to appearance in these movies, thus making any claim that the Time Variance Authority will be a possible counterargument in keeping the TVA page as the disambiguation page rather than the Tennessee Valley Authority primary redirect redundant.
- (Discuss) – Sporting Club Lyon → SC Lyon – I suggest we move this article to SC Lyon because this appears to be one of the common names for the club, and because this is the standard way we name football articles. I also suggest that the current SC Lyon page is moved to SC Lyon (ice hockey), because it's much less important and most likely gets way less visits than the Sporting Club Lyon article. - (Discuss) – Hard Rock Stadium Circuit → Hard Rock Stadium (race track) – Name of the track is "Hard Rock Stadium". It was incorrectly moved from Hard Rock Stadium (race track) without reason. Eurohunter (talk) 19:15, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Zosimus → Zosimus (historian) – Was briefly moved to this title in March 2010 but reverted because a "plain title should not redirect to disambiguated one". He has the highest traffic and appears most in internet searches, but I'm not sure the historian is such a notable figure that he should to be regarded as the primary topic, at least from a general reader's viewpoint. - (Discuss) – Wipeout (Psygnosis video game series) → Wipeout (video game series) – Unnecessary mention of company name, no other video game series article. Natg 19 (talk) 00:58, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – List of television actors who died during production → List of television performers who died during production – As the article has expanded to include nonactors who died during the production of television shows they were in, I think the time is right to propose a renaming of the article to reflect this. - (Discuss) – José Antonio Serrano Ramos → José Antonio (footballer, born 1984) – WP:COMMONNAME for both is just "José Antonio", neither use full legal names professionally. Disambiguate to standard at WP:NCSP. Ortizesp (talk) 01:04, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Chilling Adventures of Sabrina → Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (comics) – TV series is getting more pageviews, and it's not even close. Also move Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (TV series) to Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.. 162.208.168.92 (talk) 20:31, 12 April 2021 (UTC)—Relisted. 2pou (talk) 18:57, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Sabrina the Teenage Witch → Sabrina the Teenage Witch (comics) – Not primary per pageviews; see Sabrina the Teenage Witch (1996 TV series). Move dab page to main title 162.208.168.92 (talk) 20:34, 12 April 2021 (UTC)—Relisted. 2pou (talk) 18:54, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Cape Reinga → Cape Reinga / Te Rerenga Wairua – Initiating a formal move request to resolve the recent dispute and the, in my opinion, erroneous recent reversion to the inaccurate single name. The official name of this feature (as per both New Zealand's official place name gazetteer and international sources is Cape Reinga / Te Rerenga Wairua, and has been since it was changed by an act of legislation 6 years ago. The dual name has usage in some form or another across media articles (including RNZ 1, 2, 3, and 4, Stuff.co.nz 1, 2, 3 and 4, the New Zealand Herald 1 and 2, and Newshub 1, 2, and 3) since before it was even made official, as well as in New Zealand Geographic, the AA magazine, TripAdvisor, Lonely Planet. It is used by local businesses and websites, local tourism pages, the National Library of New Zealand, government agencies, and has records of use dating back to 1961 which collectively prove that the name is in common usage. Previous discussions in other move requests have established that the general usage of dual place names is for either of the names to be used interchangeably after initial references to the full name - especially so in instances such as titles where space may be an issue. Moving this page is consistent with local naming conventions for articles about features which have dual names (see WP:NZNC), such as Aoraki / Mount Cook, Whakaari / White Island, Milford Sound / Piopiotahi and several (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) earlier move requests which have been unanimous in their support. Moves to official dual names have previously been determined to be uncontroversial, however I've opted to make a formal request to get a clear consensus given the recent history of this page.
