Bruno Vain page deletion
Hello:
Just wanted to enquire about the deletion of my "Bruno Vain" entry last year. I must have missed the notifications about the nomination for deletion User_talk:Nbfree. I believe I should contact user by the name of "Czar" but not sure where and how to do so. I will be more than happy to rewrite any portion to make it conform to Wikipedia policies if needed. Would appreciate your help very much Nbfree (talk) 00:03, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

- @Nbfree: If you want to Contact "Czar", you can do so at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Czar (). However, Before doing so I would recommend that you make a list of your WP:THREE main sources a future article would be based on. You can find a list of sources commonly discussed with regards to their reliability at WP:RSP. Victor Schmidt (talk) 06:00, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

What is Going on Here, Pronoun Confusion?
I was just reading an article about Demi Lovato. As I was reading, I noticed a series of subject pronoun errors. Do you folks not edit your work, or have you capitulated to the new labeling of persons who refuse to be identified by our acknowledge their gender? (*here, the pronoun "their" is used correctly / conventionally).
I have donated to Wikipedia in the past because it has been a useful place to go for information on certain subjects. But if Wikipedia is going to expect me to relearn the use of pronouns in order to make sense of its articles, then I'll just forget about using it as a source. I will look at other articles, but if I continue to see consistent misguided attempts to accommodate the agenda of a tiny portion of our population, I will definitely say adios to Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:646:9a80:b180:d4da:1dec:f1c6:f19f (talk)
- Lovato has identified as non-binary and asks to be referred to as they/them. Wikipedia respects this because independent reliable sources have reported it. You are free to believe what you wish, but if you refuse to call people what they want to be called, that says more about you than them and we will have to get by without your visiting. Wikipedia does not change content because of donations or refusing to donate; otherwise everyone would blackmail Wikipedia to change its content. 331dot (talk) 16:39, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
- Additional to the above - Wikipedia does not change content because you don't like it either. Chaheel Riens (talk) 16:56, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

When I try to lvote on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2021 May 22#List of weapons in the American Civil War, it's showing the templates for the following Afds as well. Help from Template editors needed
Hello, I recently added a template edit request for Template:Editnotices/Page/Ramdev at its talk page, but I found out that Category:Wikipedia template-protected edit requests has a backlog ranging from 7th April to today. So, I'm directly here to ask for help, so that my request for edit at Template talk:Editnotices/Page/Ramdev is seen by some editor who could help by making the requisite edit. Thanks. Cheers! A certain move of mine — what happened?
Hello all! I'm here with a somewhat unusual question. I don't know where to ask, but this was the best place I could find. On 15 May 2021, I moved a page (created in userspace, duplicating an existing page, and incorrectly moved into mainspace), User:Eochoa31/Speculative fiction by writers of color, back into userspace. I don't exactly recall what I did, but it appears that I moved this page over a redirect, and deleted the redirect by overwriting (Move log · Deletion log). I'm not a page mover or an administrator, and have never been either. Can someone help me figure out how exactly I did this? Tol | Talk | Contribs 00:39, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Tol: You were allowed to do that. Wikipedia:Moving a page#Moving over a redirect says: "If the new title exists but is a redirect to the old title with a single line in the page history, then you can rename the page using the regular procedure." PrimeHunter (talk) 00:57, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
- @PrimeHunter: Ahh; thank you so much! I was unaware of this rather minute detail. Tol | Talk | Contribs 01:11, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

Renaming Category
Hi, I'd like to rename "Category:Stories within Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio" to "Category:Stories within Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio" (as well as the parent category), given that the latter is the more commonly-used English translation. Any pointers? Thank you Kingoflettuce (talk) 10:09, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

- If you have Twinkle, just use the Xfd function to nominate it for renaming. Or you can do it manually at WP:Cfd. Clarityfiend (talk) 10:28, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

Opening a new biography page
How do I open a new biography page to describe the history and status of a certain person or organization ? Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.97.1.134 (talk) 11:08, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
- Hello. Your words "open a ... page" suggest that you have a (very common) misunderstanding of what Wikipedia is. The activity that most closely corresponds to what you are asking is to "write an encyclopaedia article" about the person or organisation. You are welcome to do so, but please be aware that 1) writing an article is much more difficult than it looks, especially for an inexperienced editor; 2) unless you first find the independent reliable sources that establish that the person or organisation meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability, then no article will be accepted however it is written; and 3) such an article will not belong to the person or organisation, will not necessarily say what they want it to, and should be based almost entirely what people unconnected with them have published about them, not on what they have said themselves.
- My advice to you is to
- Create an account (not obligatory, but it makes it easier for other editors to communicate with you)
- Spend a few months improving some of our six million existing articles, while you learn how Wikipedia works (many of them are in dire need of improvement!)
- Read your first article to get a sense of how to go about creating one.
- Good luck! --ColinFine (talk) 11:48, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
Template for historical currency rates?
I remember some while ago there was something (I think a template not the article Tables of historical exchange rates to the United States dollar) which would convert a currency amount at a particular year to USD. It was a little out of date and someone was trying to get a recent year's data from the World Bank or IMF. But I cannot remember who that was or what it is called. Battle of Vimy Ridge
Courtesy link: Battle of Vimy Ridge
You will note that the result is classified as a "British Empire victory". While this is true in a technical sense, it obscures the fact that it was specifically a Canadian victory. While Canada indeed part of the British Empire, it was also an independent dominion at the time and it was the Canadian Corps led by Canadian commanders who secured the victory after considerable failure by their British predecessors on site.
This may seem like a trivial matter to non-Canadians and we all know the British love to take credit for the accomplishments of their former imperial subjects, but it is not a trivial matter to Canadians. Canadians should be given their proper due.

Help me add my father to list
Hi I've never done this before so im having trouble. Can you please help me add my father's name to your list of surviving WW2 veterans in their 90s? His name is Raymond Owczarski, DOB June 1, 1927. He is from St.Francis, WI, and still resides in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. I am 53yrs old and i am his daughter, Sara. My mother's name is Alice June Owczarski (maiden name Safian) and she passed away in May of 1985. Thankyou so much. - Hello, DautofRay27. First of all, you have a Conflict of interest. Please read that link. The article in question is List of notable surviving veterans of World War II. The word "notable" appears in the title for a reason. Please read about how notability is defined for a person. This is a list of people who already have a Wikipedia biography in English or in another language, because they have received significant coverage in independent, reliable sources. Being a "wonderful man" has nothing to do with it. In a quick Google search, I was not able to find any evidence that your father is notable as Wikipedia defines that term, but I am open to seeing evidence. - Hello, Gary. Autobiographies are highly discouraged, and the vast majority of people why try to write one are unsuccessful. Wikipedia is a neutral encyclopedia, not a platform for self-promotion. Read about Conflict of interest editing, and read Your first article. If you decide to try it (which I do not recommend), then use the Articles for creation process. Editing direct quotations to use current pronouns
Hi! Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this, but I tried editing a quote on this page to use Demi Lovato's current pronouns (in brackets), but it was quickly reverted with the reason "Don't modify a direct quote". I'm confused because I can't find anything saying you shouldn't edit direct quotations to use the current pronouns of the person mentioned, and I've seen it done on many pages before (such as this one). I figured I should double check here to make sure. Thank you and sorry again if this isn't the right place to ask this! 2600:1700:9540:1E30:205B:4AE2:1D52:7759 (talk) 07:03, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
- "Quotations must be verifiably attributed, and the wording of the quoted text should be faithfully reproduced. This is referred to as the principle of minimal change. Where there is good reason to change the wording, bracket the changed text; for example, "Ocyrhoe told him his fate" might be quoted as "Ocyrhoe told [her father] his fate"." What is "good reason" is a matter of context and consensus (per talkpage discussion), my own knee-jerk reaction is "don't mess with the quote." Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:32, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
- In this case, where there has been a deliberate change on Demi's part, I would still say that the original wording of the quote should stand, but there may be reason to make clear that the quote preceded the change and is not a deliberate non-compliance. Non-compliant post-change quotes should probably be avoided out of courtesy, unless their very non-compliance is the significant issue; they should still not be altered.--Verbarson (talk) 10:59, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
MOS:GENDERID says "Paraphrase, elide, or use square brackets to replace portions of quotations to avoid deadnaming or misgendering, except in rare cases where exact wording cannot be avoided, as where there is a pun on the notable former name, etc." - X201 (talk) 12:04, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
- A bit of MOS against MOS, then. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 17:36, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
Not for advertising or promotion purposes.
Hi,
My article for Alexia Inge keeps being deleted due to it being classed as "advertising or for promotional purposes".
As the article is not written for this purpose I am confused as to how it keeps being flagged as this.
I have put the article below in order to see what parts would need to be changed in order for it to be published.
Many thanks,

- Spub305 You edited your user page, which is not article space and not searchable by search engines. Your user page is a place for you to tell about yourself as a Wikipedia editor or user. New users cannot directly create articles, and must use Articles for Creation. However, you should be aware that autobiographical articles are strongly discouraged per the autobiography policy. Wikipedia is not interested in what people want to say about themselves, but in what independent reliable sources with significant coverage choose on their own to say about them. Wikipedia is also not interested in helping your fans or enhancing search results for you. Wikipedia articles summarize what independent reliable sources say, showing how a person meets Wikipedia's special definition of a notable actor or actress. I have deleted your user page as promotional. 331dot (talk) 10:30, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
- Also be aware that a Wikipedia article is not necessarily desirable. There are good reasons to not want one. You cannot lock it to the text that you might prefer, or prevent others from editing it. Any information about you, good and bad, can appear in an article about you as long as it is found in an independent reliable source and is not defamatory. 331dot (talk) 10:31, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
How to create an organization page?
Hi Wiki Team,
I would like to know the process to create a new page for a company. Thank you.
--Tvairsystems (talk) 11:46, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
- Please read Help:Your first article. Is the company perhaps named TV Air Systems, or similar? If so, please read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing. Either way, please also read Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). -- Hoary (talk) 11:59, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
- Tvairsystems Successfully creating a new article(not a mere "page") is the hardest thing to do on Wikipedia- and it's more difficult when one has a conflict of interest as you do. Wikipedia is not a place for companies to tell the world about themselves, it summarizes what others completely unaffiliated with the subject choose on their own to say about it(no press releases, announcements of routine transactions such as the commencement of operations) Please also see the important information I placed on your user talk page regarding your username. 331dot (talk) 12:01, 24 May 2021 (UTC)

Help Request
Draft:Padma Rao Sundarji - I am unable to figure out what sources I could add for Early Life and Personal Life as both these sections only talk about the family or education? Also I appreciate any feedback on the other areas of this draft that needs further editing that will help in the page going to the live section. Requesting help and expert advise please! Thanks in advance! :) ShravanthiRK (talk) 15:46, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
- ShravanthiRK what source did you get the information from? How do you know the information you put in those sections? If it's from knowing her personally, or talking to her, or something like that, and you can't find it previously published anywhere else, it doesn't belong in the article. But if it is published somewhere, cite that place as a source, at least for now. If the source is unacceptable per WP:RS and WP:ABOUTSELF, it can be dealt with later. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 15:54, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
Entry changes for Fritz Glatz, Austrian Race car driver
Fritz Glatz ( | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
I am the personal friend and long-term mechanic of Fritz Glatz, see Wikipedia: the entries in the english section are wrong - and everytime I correct them a „Bbbb23“ reverts them back and threatens with „vandalism“. He has no clue: e.g. Fritz Glatz racing career started in 1965 in England, continued in 1966 for Kaimann Racing Vienna in Formula Vee and came to a stop in August 1966 after a severe accident at the Nurburgring. All can be read in his biografie in German. He restarted the careed at age 39 in F3 and later F2/ F3000 in 1980+, but cars and and entries are sometimes wrong and sources can be checked on Wikipedia; eg. his participation of 4 races in F3000 in 1985, not 2, as written (see Curacao F3000 Race on Oct. 13th, 1985. This writer Bbbb23 seems ignorant and wants to keep these false information in Wikipedia, and every time I correct it he changes it back - and has no clues and probably never met Fritz Glatz. Why make Wikipedia in the first place - if wrong entries are promoted?— Preceding unsigned comment added by Plasonig (talk • contribs)
- Plasonig The article in question does appear to be largely unsourced, and has been marked as such. Thank you for bringing this to attention. However, we cannot just accept your word for changes- information needs to be sourced to an independent reliable source for verification purposes. If you would be able to help with that, please post on the article talk page. 331dot (talk) 16:14, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
- I have just replied to this at the Teahouse. Please don't post the same question in more than one place, Plasonig: it just duplicates effort, wastes editors' time. --ColinFine (talk) 17:05, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
Archiving talk page spam filter problem
Trying to archive some old talk page threads, I get "Error: The text you wanted to publish was blocked by the spam filter. This is probably caused by a link to a forbidden external site. The following text is what triggered our spam filter: s155239215.onlinehome.us" - so how do I archive it? Obviously I don't want to mis-represent what was said. Sister Project Boxes and MOS Conflict
Hi! The MOS Seems to contradict in an area and I could use some clarification.
MOS:SO states that Internal links to related English Wikipedia articles, with section heading "See also"; link templates for sister-project content also usually go at the top of this section when it is present (otherwise in the last section on the page).
This is in apparent contradiction to MOS:ELLAYOUT, which states that Links to Wikimedia sister projects and Spoken Wikipedia should generally appear in "External links", not under "See also". If the article has no "External links" section, then place sister links at the top of the last section in the article. Two exceptions: Wiktionary and Wikisource links may be linked inline (e.g. to an unusual word or the text of a document being discussed).
So, which is it? Should I put sister project boxes in External links or See also? Thanks, Tyrone Madera (talk) 18:54, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
- Tyrone Madera, I have checked the history of the passages you quote, now highlighted in green, and the more recent is MOS:SO, which was updated in the Revision to Wikipedia:Manual of Style as of 10:06, 23 November 2020 by SMcCandlish. pages that are protected from creation
Dear Editors
The Wikipedia article on the Inverse Warburg Effect was deleted after some controversy. After that, the message was: "This page is protected from creation, so only administrators can create it."
Is this still valid? If so, how can an administrator be contacted and provided with material to create a new article on this topic, incorporating recent research in several areas.
Best regards Hasperasperagus — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hasperasperagus (talk • contribs)
- Hasperasperagus Inverse Warburg effect is a redirect that leads to a section of Warburg effect (oncology). You seem to be referring to Inverse Warburg Effect. I would suggest you expand that existing section of article first. 331dot (talk) 19:21, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
- But the answer to your question in general, Hasperasperagus, is that if somebody uses WP:AFC and creates a draft that a reviewer accepts, then the reviewer will get it moved to mainspace despite the protection. --ColinFine (talk) 21:18, 24 May 2021 (UTC)

How do I cite a Plaque (such as one in front of a monument)?
How do I properly cite a dedicated plaque? Do plaques count under verifiability policy? Thanks, Tyrone Madera (talk) 19:45, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
- Tyrone Madera Now that's a good question. There is no WP:PLAQUE. I know there are articles that mentions for example Blue plaques, sometimes with an image, though I don't think they generally cite them per se. It may depend on which plaque and for what.
- One can argue that a plaque is "published". And perhaps, but not necessarily, put there by some sort of WP:RS/authority on the subject. I guess you could try to put plain text between ref tags,[1] perhaps with a link to an image if there is one. If someone objects, deal with it then. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 20:59, 24 May 2021 (UTC)

- Tyrone Madera By convention, we generally accept a picture as a reliable source for its subject. As User:Gråbergs Gråa Sång said the statements on the plaque were "published" when the plaque was placed in a public place. Take a picture of the plaque and put it on Commons (if old enough to be out of copyright) or on the English WP (if not). Article about myself
Hello,
My name is Kevyn Knox, and I was curious about getting an article about myself onto Wikipedia.
Here are my accomplishments (so far)
Published Author of a book called "Forgotten TV: 101 TV Shows You've Probably Never Heard Of"
Owner / Founder of A to Zooey Productions, with a small press branch (Experimental Forest Press) & a comic book branch (Brain Tumor Comix)
The creator of the online comic strip, "La-La & Lu-Lu"
I am also a visual artist, Photographer, and I ran for Mayor of Harrisburg Pa in 2021 (Alas, I lost in the primary)
I am publicly known as The Andy Warhol of Harrisburg
I know I am not supposed to write articles about myself, but was hoping there are editors there than can do it.
Thanx, Kevyn Knox
Kevynknox (talk) 20:54, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
- Kevynknox You can make a request at Requested Articles, but there is an extremely large backlog there and few people to write articles, so your request may never be acted on, if at all. You may not be aware that a Wikipedia article about yourself is not necessarily a good thing. There are good reasons to not want one. You can't lock it to the text you might prefer, or prevent others from editing it. Any information about you, good or bad, can be in an article about you as long as it appears in an independent source and is not defamatory. Vandals can vandalize an article about you to say something grossly incorrect and while that is usually detected and removed(but can also be subtle enough to remain for awhile), it could still damage you personally.
- Your best bet if you still desire an article is to allow independent editors to take note of your career in independent reliable sources and choose to write about you. Forcing the issue can work, but is usually seen as promotional and viewed skeptically. Wikipedia summarizes what independent reliable sources with significant coverage state about persons that meet Wikipedia's special definition of notability, not what people want to say about themselves. It's not enough to merely have accomplishments(even if impressive as yours are), others completely unaffiliated with you must write about you with in depth coverage beyone merely telling about those accomplishments. 331dot (talk) 21:03, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
- (edit conflict)See WP:BASIC. What are the 3-4 best sources you know that are at the same time reliably published (no blogs, wikis etc etc), independent of you (and your company, publisher, projects etc) and about you in some detail? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 21:09, 24 May 2021 (UTC)

Automated tools
Hi, I've been experimenting with Redwarn and Twinkle (sp.?) but I feel like I probably jumped into them a bit soon. If someone has two minutes, could you please have a quick look my edit history to see if I've been using them correctly? Probably the biggest hurdle I've faced is knowing when/what message to leave on people's talk page. Sometimes it can be difficult to tell whether someone is being a troll or is genuinely trying to help. Any feedback would be awesome so I can improve. How can I change my wikipedia language to Indian English
I am from India. I use wikipedia for various reasons anywhere from learning new things to using it for work. But I was frustrated that there is no Indian English option to choose from languages. Even in the languages, all the Indian languages are given except Indian English. Moreover, my main concern is that all the articles follow the international numbering system which is hard to understand for us Indians especially when we use the Indian numbering system as our numbering system. I also found out that the Indian numbering system is followed in all Indian languages. So it would be nice to have English(India) as a language with the Indian numbering system in it.
- Unfortunately, this would not be a simple or easy matter. The various language versions you see are not automatic translations from one "master" text, they are all part of different Wikipedias in those languages, and all these Wikipedias are completely independent projects, each with as much standing as this English Language Wikipedia we are conversing on.
- The non-English language Wikipedias' articles have either been been written "from scratch" in those languages, or sometimes began as direct translations from an article in a different language (not necessarily English), but these translations were done on an individual basis by one or more editors who chose to do so. Equally, some articles in the English Wikipedia began as translations from a previously existing article on another language Wikipedia. Note that Wikipedia does not endorse using automatic translation programmes, because they are simply not accurate enough.
- This means that two articles on the same subject in different languages are almost never direct equivalents, and even if one began as a translation from the other, they will steadily diverge as they are further improved in each of those languages. This also explains why different language Wikipedias have very different numbers of articles.
- There are, as you observe, different varieties of English, including British English, American English, Indian English, Australian English, and so on: however there is (as far as I know) only one English language Wikipedia. The general rule is to write a particular article in (and only in) the variety of English that is relevant to the subject, so that for example the article on George Washington should be written in American English and the one on George III in British English: where no particular English variety applies to the subject, one should stick with the variety used by the editor who first created the article: this is explained in more detail at WP:ENGVAR. Note that articles about subjects falling under the umbrella of The Commonwealth of Nations, including India, are intended to be written in the pan-national variety "Commonwealth English", which is close to British English.
- There may be some option for users logged into their Wikipedia account (which I don't have, so I don't know) to have numerals automatically rendered into a different system, or it may be possible for one to be created, but this is far outside of my own expertise. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.197.27.217 (talk) 08:48, 25 May 2021 (UTC)
- There is also Simple English WP. And, slightly off topic, Scots WP. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:58, 25 May 2021 (UTC)
- Per WP:s way of thinking, Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#National_varieties_of_English, "Indian English" does not qualify for a separate language WP, but is to be considered in India-related articles. Some articles, like List of highest-grossing Indian films use both numbering systems, but you will not see that in articles like, say List of Africans by net worth. If there is some on-WP gadget that lets you chose your prefered numbering, I don't know it. Perhaps there is an off-WP one? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:31, 25 May 2021 (UTC)
- The Indian numbering system is just one of several, another of which is standard in the part of the world where I happen to live. (It's described in Japanese over there; I'm surprised not to find it described in English here. Meanwhile, a simple introduction.) Mentally switching between two systems can be confusing, but perhaps it's a good little exercise for one's lazy mind. -- Hoary (talk) 09:15, 25 May 2021 (UTC)
- For more exercise, go to Denmark. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:28, 25 May 2021 (UTC)

- AsianStarRadio Wikipedia is not a collection of "pages", it is an encyclopedia with articles. Please see your user talk page for important information about your username, which you will need to change. Wikipedia summarizes what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about a company, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable company. Wikipedia is not interested in what a company wants to say about itself, only in what others say about it. - Hey, thanks for stopping by @AsianStarRadio:. Wikipedia has a help page titled Help:Your first article; you should read that page for some guidance. Also, and this cannot be stressed enough, when starting a new article, the most important thing you need to do before you start the article is to gather all of your research first. Find all of the reliable, independent sources for the information you wish to write, and cite those sources as you go. The difference between having a successful Wikipedia article and one that gets quickly deleted is the amount of work you do in preparation for writing it by getting your sources in order first. --Jayron32 12:45, 25 May 2021 (UTC)

regarding a topic, which need massive edits
I am a doctorate and I have quality publications in my field (Scopus, ProQuest, EBSCO, ABDC Indexed). Today, I tried to edit an article of my field which is very poorly written on Wikipedia. I posted my blog's domain and Scopus and ABDC indexed publication in the citation. Someone rejected the changes. If someone is genuine, you don't allow them to correct the article. I have seen crappy references being quoted on the same post. Why didn't you rejected that? I am so disappointed, I can even share my publications. The topic is "Poverty Alleviation Programmes in India" I did research and wrote a thesis on this. It is poorly written here. Since my blog is new, it doesn't indicate my credibility. You cant reject things like that if you want to maintain quality.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Jasky786 (talk • contribs)
