Piedmont College becomes Piedmont University
Hello, my name is Bob Glass. I am Dean of Libraries and College Librarian at Piedmont College in Demorest, GA.
On Monday, April 5, 2021, Piedmont College will be renamed Piedmont University. My administration has asked me to revise the Piedmont College https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piedmont_College and the History of Piedmont College https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Piedmont_College entries.
Editing is one thing, and I think I have a fairly good handle on that. I am much less certain about how to rename the entries themselves successfully. I read somewhere in your documentation that when you rename a page, you have to have specific permissions for the images to be transferred during the renaming.
Both entries have pictures. So I would be grateful to have some advice.
Thanks for your help, Bob Glass Bglassga (talk) 00:02, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- Bglassga First, please review the paid editing policy and make the required formal declaration. You should also review conflict of interest, and how to make edit requests as you should avoid direct edits. Regarding your request, retitling an article requires a page move, which you may request at requested moves. However, Wikipedia does not necessarily use the official or legal name of a subject as the title, but what is most commonly used. See WP:COMMONNAME. That said, this probably won't be too controversial. 331dot (talk) 00:11, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Bglassga: Thank you for making the declaration on your user page. You should also avoid removing unflattering information from these articles. If you have a concern about the information, feel free to post requests on the article talk pages with the request edit template, so your requests can be considered by an independent editor. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 01:02, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
How to highlight syntax with different colours in source editing?
How to highlight syntax with different colours in source editing in the default wikipedia edit interface? Also how can I do the same in edit comparison when I check Edit history? 16AdityaG09 (talk) 03:18, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- @16AdityaG09: For source editing you can go to your preferences and navigate to the Gadgets tab, where you can check Syntax Highlighter. Alternatively, you can try out the New wikitext mode in Beta Features.
- I'm not aware of any syntax highlighting while comparing diffs, but maybe someone else knows about that. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 04:29, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- See Wikipedia:Syntax highlighting for more editing options. I don't know a syntax highlighter for diffs but "wikEdDiff" at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets gives an alternative diff which is often better when the default is poor. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:05, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

Historic birth place
Please can someone point me at a policy or guideline on historic places of birth? For example, I'm fairly sure that someone born in what is now India or Pakistan before 1947 should have British India in the infobox. MOS:BIRTHPLACE doesn't cover it. I've found local rules (MOS:IMOS BIOPLACE has exactly the guidance I want for Ireland) but I'm looking for a worldwide view. All I can find so far is Template:Infobox person/doc#Parameters (under birth_place
). Thanks, Certes (talk) 11:32, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- I think the guidance can be implied from WP:PLACE. I would interpret that as agreeing with you that the name commonly current at the time is relevant, with in some cases today's equivalent also mentioned if it wouldn't be obvious to readers. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:23, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- Specifically WP:MODERNPLACENAME is the relevant exemption to using modern name, because the historic name/jurisdiction is what cited references will use, and inform their political context growing up. The lead for Emma Goldman for example states: Born in Kaunas, Russian Empire (now Lithuania). I'll update MOS:BIRTHPLACE to include that.

Nominating multiple hoax articles
If there are four hoax articles, all created by the same user and with similar subject, what is the best way to nominate all of them for deletion? Is it with the WP:Articles for deletion or the WP:Proposed deletion process?
While section "Dealing with Hoaxes" in WP:HOAX instructs to "mark it with hoax or image hoax and propose it for deletion" and doesn't mention AfD, WP:PROD itself says nothing about hoax articles, while WP:AfD has the section WP:BUNDLE mentioning them and, especifically, that AfD may be used to nominate "A group of hoax articles by the same editor". Pinging a user page redlink?
If I attempt to ping an editor using the blah-blah-blah format on a talk page, but the user in question has not created a user page - will they still be alerted in the banner at the top of the page?
I've been in discussion with an editor who keeps saying they've no idea I'm pinging them in conversation, and I've just realised they don't have a user page. Could this be why? Chaheel Riens (talk) 16:06, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Chaheel Riens: The presence or absence of a user page has nothing to do with receiving pings. It is possible that they could have disabled pings in their preferences, but leaving a message on their talk page should still get their attention either way. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 16:09, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

- @Chaheel Riens: Please always be specific in questions. If you had identified a ping attempt then we could probably see what went wrong. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:19, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Chaheel Riens: As far a as I know, the construct blah-blah-blah does not cause a ping, whether or not the user's page exists. Instead, you need to use one of the ping templates, e.g.
re
, as in blah-blah-blah. -Arch dude (talk) 17:07, 5 April 2021 (UTC)- @Arch dude: I am afraid this is false, as evident in Help:Notifications#Mentions. In fact, when I use Special:ExpandTemplates on the construct used to ping you right now, it gives <span class="template-ping">@Arch dude:</span> as an output, there is nothing special about the template. The existence or not-existence of a user page doesn't affect pings, because the Echo extension of MediaWiki simply looks for links to User pages, wether they are red or blue. Victor Schmidt (talk) 17:25, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

- Arch dude - this should alert you. I receive many pings using this format, they appear in the bell alert as "xxxxx mentioned you..." - and have received them in the conversation I'm referencing.
- PrimeHunter - I didn't want to be more specific as in this instance the user and I are engaged in a content dispute - one of his arguments is that he's unaware that I'm trying to reach out to him. I think he's choosing to ignore comments that he doesn't want to respond to, but for AGF I wanted to be sure. Anyway, I don't see how much more specific I could be - the question is fairly straight forward I think?
- Good question about mobile editing. I don't think so, as none of his contributions have the mobile tag appended to them.
- Thanks for the responses - never received so many alerts in such a short space of time - it seems likely that the editor probably is receiving alerts, but not acting upon them. I'll bear that in mind. Chaheel Riens (talk) 17:29, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Chaheel Riens: There are many possible reasons for pings to fail. What you really wanted to know is whether the user was pinged and all we can say is that a red link isn't an issue. You suspected that and have learned very little while all of us have spent time on it. That's not very productive. PrimeHunter (talk) 18:49, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- That's a little harsh I think? I asked a straightforward question, and got a straightforward answer - increasing my knowledge (and dare I say it, that of Arch Dude as well,) of how Wikipedia works, for which I thanked people. In that respect it was very productive. Chaheel Riens (talk) 19:43, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

- @Chaheel Riens: You can also add a comment on the user's talk page. you can create that user's talk page if it does not already exist. The user is free to delete your comment on that talk page, but such a deletion is taken as an acknowledgement that the user has read the comment. If I recall correctly (maybe or maybe not, given my last suggestion) a user gets pinged when a comment is added to the talk page even of no explicit ping is added. I will try that now on your talk page -Arch dude (talk) 00:37, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
Charles Greenfield (qualifier) vs. Charles Greenfield (non-Disambiguation)
Question: Is it OK to have an article that houses several biographies? When I wiki-linked Charles Greenfield and it came up BLUE, rather than RED, I was surprised. Two people by that name are both 20th century Brooklyn-connected and Cooper Union alumni. There's also the matter of Charles Norman Greenfield whose only incoming link belongs to someone else. The Norman article is nicely detailed, and looks important because he's the person involved in an important case.
It would seem that the case should link there, but that's not for this question, which, to recap, is: Can a biography article house several people's biographies? Pi314m (talk) 19:14, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Pi314m: Closely connected people can share a biography article in rare cases like the Wright brothers. Having the same name is not a valid reason just because they have some things in common like time period, city and education. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:39, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- Pi314m which iography article houses several people's biographies? If only one Charles Greenfield has a Wikipedia article, then that article can be called Charles Greenfield, or use it as a redirect. When you link to a biography article, you need to check that it is the correct article and not an article about someone else with the same name. TSventon (talk) 19:33, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Pi314m: I thinkm I've solved what I understand to be your problem by moving the article you created Charles Greenfield (hospital administrator) to Charles Greenfield. I did this because of the two entries listed at the former disambiguation page, only was was known as "Charles Greenfield". Charles Greenfield now has a hatnote to the other article. Do you think that the article written about emailSanta.com complies with WP:NPOV?
The article is about the named website that simulates sending emails to the character Santa Claus. A portion was written by the website's owner himself, and I was the one who tried to balance out the article by clarifying that the website is a simulation and not real (which is even mentioned in reliable sources) before moving it into the article space for him. Do you think that the article is neutral enough the way it is, or does it need some fixing up? It looks mostly fine to me, but I would like some other opinions. Thanks! An article created by me was flagged for deletion, this is the 3rd article being flagged for deletion..... The other 2 were taken up by re uploaded by other editors after being deleted andbthey took the credit. Those pages are still live on wikipedia years after till date. This is so saddening and the same thing is about to happen again. It is very discouraging.
Here is my discussion concerning the article nominated for deletion below:
He was a philantrophist, the first chatered accountant from his home town who inspired a lot of chatered accountants from his community, reknowned auditor for multinationals and also a titled chief which was possible as a result of his major contributions to his community. In some of the links cited below it is obvious that he was a titled chief. I sourced for a lot of these links and it was only obvious that he was a very private person despite his notability. He was also the Chairman of Infinity microfinance bank, Nigeria as seen on page 4 of the first link below.

Adding an adjective to a talk page post after posting
Could anyone please tell me if it would be more appropriate to add a strikethrough over the noun, then write the adjective and noun? I did a lot of this earlier today in conversation with TSventon when I was adding new sentences (but not new adjectives). I just added an adjective to a post I made on a talk page without a strikethrough, and I feel hypocritical about it, which inspired me to post this here.--Thylacine24 (talk) 00:40, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Thylacine24: If no one had yet responded, there is no need for strikeout. If someone else did respond, then you should add the strikeout and/or underline to indicate what was deleted or added. - Note, Clejanajr, the notability requirements for a school. "Notability" in English-language Wikipedia is very different from "notability" as generally understood. Only a tiny percentage of elementary schools are "notable" in Wikipedia's terms. (The one I went to was/is non-notable.) First check that this school you hope to write about meets one of the criteria for "notability"; and only if it does, consider creating an article about it. -- Hoary (talk) 09:37, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- There was a similar mystifying contribution to the Helpdesk the other day, now archived at WP:Help_desk/Archives/2021_March_28#Area_J_Elementary_School_(ARJES). Is Clejanajr trying to use the Helpdesk to advertise the place, hoping search engines will pick it up, or are they planning an article? The latter seems unlikely since these two edits are the only ones the account has made. Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:16, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

- Clejanajr, I'm intrigued by the "we" in your "we actually would like to...". Are you perhaps planning to write this on behalf of the school? -- Hoary (talk) 07:45, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
"We" because I am trying to form a team to help with the article since I'm not a writer myself. Convert inch by inch to cm
Is there a way to make the 3.5 by 3.5 inches (8.9 cm × 8.9 cm) template show instead 3.5 inch by 3.5 inch (8.9 cm × 8.9 cm) because I believe inch would be better grammar for a future edit I would like to do. Can you give me the modified template - thanks.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 11:47, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- Area units are really square inches and square centimetres etc. The current template suggests 12.25 sqin, which gives 12.25 square inches (79.0 cm2). If you need to specify the 3.5 by 3.5 you are multiplying together you may just need to stick with the full text you used in your question. Other experts may have better ideas than me! Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:06, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- In my case the object in mind is NOT square, but has two sides only that are 3.5 inches. So, that's why I am looking for a Convert Template that will say - 3.5 inch by 3.5 inch (8.9 cm × 8.9 cm) - thanks!--Doug Coldwell (talk) 12:22, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- So write this:
3.5 x
→ 3.5-by-3.5-inch (8.9 cm × 8.9 cm) - Not exactly what you want but at least the unit is singular. Editors at Template talk:Convert might have a better suggestion.

Re-submission of Central Boiler Wikipedia Article
Hello, In February 2019, our Wikipedia page/article was deleted (here was the URL:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Boiler). This deletion was approved by a then admin Ad Orientem (who looks to have retired in November 2020). We are hoping to do a resubmission. What are the next steps in doing this?
Central84 (talk) 13:21, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- Central84 It is not "your Wikipedia page", it was a Wikipedia article about your company. As the article was deleted per the results of a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Central Boiler, you must first address the reasons for the deletion. Any article about your company must summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about it, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable company. Staff interviews, press releases, announcements of routine business activities, brief mentions, and other primary sources do not establish notability.

UN Member States lists Mohammad Ajam
I was just looking at the list of UN Member States: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Member_states_of_the_United_Nations
It lists Mohammad Ajam as a Member State. But that's a person, not a state.
I'd like to fix this, but it's a category page and I don't see how edits work on a category page.
Can someone with more editing expertise look into this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Erikamit (talk • contribs) 15:21, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- The category pages are auto-populated from the tags put on individual pages. How does Wikipedia review my article?
Hello,
I finished writing my article and I have a few questions.
How do I get my article reviewed by Wikipedia?
How long does it take?
When do you know if it was excepted or not?
Thanks for your help!
Mike— Preceding unsigned comment added by Mshinas (talk • contribs)
- Mshinas I assume this is about the content you wrote on User:Mshinas, which is your userpage, and not an appropriate place for draft articles. Your userpage is a space to tell other people a little bit about yourself in the context of your Wikipedia activities. Draft articles should either be in draft space or your sandbox. If you would like, I can move the text on your userpage to draft space. Regarding getting your draft article submitted; I have added a box to the top of the draft. Once you are ready to have it reviewed, click the button that says, "Submit the draft for review!". It will then join a long list of articles awaiting review. It may take quite some time (think months) before someone reviews it. You will know if it is accepted or not because they will leave a note on your talk page (where I have just left a welcome message with useful links). I doubt it will be accepted in the state it is currently in however; the material seems technical, and Wikipedia is written for a general audience. You also only cite two sources, which appear to be primary research papers, rather than review articles (see here). So the sourcing needs work as well as the style. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 21:14, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- Also, I just noticed your username bears a striking resemblance to the name of the author of the papers cited. Please review our policy on conflicts of interest and original research. - @Mshinas: besides the issues noted by ONUnicorn above, I think there could be a useful article entitled Time Of Arrival Diagnostic. You’ll want to add application info, such as is found in this introduction.2 I read Your article draft and didn’t understand the significance. And by including the research of others, you’ll demonstrate that it’s a more commonly used term than just in your papers. Entry for Power Line blog
Why is the purveyor of the Wikipedia page for the "Power Line" blog allowed to perpetrate a continuing fraud? Power Line is not a "conservative" site; it is a far right, often fascistic and white supremacist and radical domestic terrorist insurrection supporting site. Its contributors might have impressive pedigrees, but they are deeply steeped in the farthest right wing fringes of American politics, and peddle dangerous conspiracy theories (about the COVID pandemic, elections, Democrats, elected officials, judges that rule against Trump, etc.) that would be just as welcome on Info Wars. The fact that John Hinderaker, Scott Johnson, Paul Mirengoff and Steven Hayward are so well connected to the Republican Party apparatus, the Koch Brothers 9from whom they receive content) and hard right "think tanks' should not be a license for them to lie to the public about what thay are.
Read their posts and the comments of their "Top Commenters" over a given day, and I defy you to disagree with me. I've been reading the blog for years, but every time I edit the Wiki page to make it truthful -- not more truthful, truthful -- its creator blocks the edits from taking effect. And he/she gets support from Wikipedia to do it.
Wikipedia should not be a vehicle for propaganda and self-promotion.

- Thank you for your comment. First of all, might I suggest registering for an account? That would make it easier to communicate with you. You say you have tried to edit the page to make it truthful, however this helpdesk post is the only edit ever made from your IP address. IP addresses change frequently, so I can't tell which edits to the article are yours and which are not. I do notice this edit by an IP which was reverted by User:ClueBot NG, an automated computer program built to find and revert vandalism. If that was your edit, it was reverted because it looks like vandalism. It removes all sources from the article, and uses very non-neutral language to describe living people in a way that does not comply with policy (I linked the applicable policies - they are the blue text in my comment). All information in Wikipedia must be verifiable - attributed to reliable sources. If there are news articles or sources that describe the blog as "a white supremacist, radical right wing extremist" blog, they need to be cited in the article in order for us to describe it as such. If there are no sources describing it in those terms, we cannot use those terms to describe it. As a lawyer, I'm sure you are familiar with the concept of libel, and can understand why we cannot describe it as such in Wikivoice without strong sourcing. You are more than welcome to edit the page to make it truthful, so long as you cite reliable sources and try to maintain a neutral point of view. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 21:32, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

- Gary Hodge Is this about Mike Walker (jazz guitarist)? I see you use the visual editor, I'm not sure how to remove the photos using that, so I'll give you instructions for the source editor - which sounds intimidating, but isn't bad. Click on "Edit source", then look for text that starts with "). Save the edit. That will remove the photo. If you prefer, I'll do it for you if you confirm which article. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 21:57, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
Thanks ONUnicorn, where is the edit source button please? I can only see an edit tab .
- Hello, Gary Hodge. Please note that Wikipedia's article about Mike Walker does not belong to Walker, and is for Wikipedia's benefit, not for his. While adding and removing photos is probably uncontroversial, (and adding free pictures to an article about a person is generally a good thing for Wikipedia), he should not be editing that article directly, and nor should you since you appear to know him; but should instead make edit requests on the article's talk page, so that uninvolved editors can decide whether the requested change is appropriate within Wikipedia's policies. Please read WP:PSCOI. --ColinFine (talk) 22:40, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Gary Hodge: I suggest you don't remove all the images unless you have a better image to use in the article. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 00:43, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Gary Hodge: If you took those pictures yourself, you own the copyright. When you uploaded them, you licensed them to us irrevocably. You have no control over how we use them and no more authority to delete them from our repository than does any other editor. You also have no more authority than any other editor to remove them from the article. The subject of the article also has no particular rights or control with respect to the article. It's not his article, and it's not your article. It's Wikipedia's article. As it happens, we do try to consider and accommodate the wishes of the subject within reason (see WP:BLP) so all this "authority" and "control" stuff is not as absolute as it sounds, but it's very real. -Arch dude (talk) 04:44, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Gary Hodge: Pictures of living people are very important enhancements to articles, but copyright law can make it quite hard to get them. We cannot simply copy a publicity shot, because those are copyrighted. If the subject (Mr. Walker) can provide us with a better picture that he owns the copyright to, or if the photographer can provide such a picture, and jump through all the hoops of granting permission as they upload the picture to Commons, then we can replace your picture. -Arch dude (talk) 04:53, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

Viewing point maps
There is a type of map displaying points where the points seem to be strangely embedded into the page. Hovering the points gives a small tooltip with the name of the point but this is impossible to see the different points when many of them are stacked into a small area.
Is it possible to get a larger version of or zoom in to these types of maps? Clicking the map just brings up the base map without the points and zooming in to the page through the browser does not affect the points.
I have seen these types of maps mainly on French Wikipedia though they likely exist on other versions too. How are these maps created and where is the point data coming from? Is it possible to pull up a zoom-able map with these points or to download them?
Here is a page that has two examples of the type of map I am talking about: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juiverie
Many thanks! Busmargali (talk) 06:11, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Busmargali: The page you linked is on the french Wikipedia, which is a seperate project. These maps are created by using a svg map of french and later generating the hover points with CSS, which makes then unable to be zoomed. However, here on the english Wikipedia we have a zoomable alternative based on OpenStreetMap, see Wikipedia:Maps_for_Wikipedia and

The email is wiped without my intent (it was the email service itself) but I have a single wikipedia email from wikipedia sent to me about my account referring to it about whatever it is that I had to my account previously before. - Most likely not, i am afraid. If you no longer have access to the email account used on Wikipedia, you only can register a new account with a new username. The sole exception to this would be if the old account had Steward, Oversight or a similar high-profile user right. Victor Schmidt (talk) 07:08, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

New Pages/Links
Dear Sir/Madam,
I noticed that we publish a number of Regional and National Catholic Newspapers in the UK - some that we own, and others that we publish on behalf of other people. I am aware that you have lists of papers and pages of information for most UK newspapers but we've not added any information about our papers. I started add them all to Wikipedia, but I got the following message: It appears you are adding external links to many different Wikipedia pages in rapid succession. This is often a sign of people spamming Wikipedia... I was intending to add the links as that was a quick job - and then add a page of information for each publication (you already have one of our publications on the wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholic_Voice_of_Lancaster - so I was going to add something similar for each one). I don't want to violate any of the rules regarding adding information so I thought it was best to check with you first before making any more updates.
Should I carry on with creating a page for each publication or should I stop?
Thanks, Nick — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.39.128.93 (talk)
- Hello, Nick. Wikipedia does not contain, and is not intended to contain, everything, but only things that meet its criteria of notability - roughly, that enough has been published about the subject in reliable sources that are totally independent of the subject to base an article on. For this reason, most list articles contain only entries that are notable - entries that are, or could be, the subject of independent Wikipedia articles. The article Catholic Voice of Lancaster, though it has been around for twelve years, is seriously deficient in not citing any sources, and unless somebody does find and add some suitable sources (remember, they have to be written and published completely independently of the subject) then that article is likely to get deleted, and will then get removed from List of newspapers in the United Kingdom. If any of your publications meet Wikipedia's criteria for notability, then somebody could write articles about them - preferably not you, because of your conflict of interest, but you are not forbidden to try, provided you make the necessary declarations as a WP:paid editor. But otherwise, no, Wikipedia will not take note of them. External links in Wikipedia articles are strictly controlled (according to the policy in EL), and in any case, adding links to a website you are associated with is regarded as a Conflit of Interest. In Wikipedia terms, yes, you were spamming. --ColinFine (talk) 13:41, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

Is there a template that could be used to add the text "This article incorporates information from the corresponding article in the French Wikipedia." and similar. Article for April 7 date
I was reading the article for the April 7 date ... located here ---> April 7. I wanted to make an edit to the introductory paragraph. When I hit the "Edit" button, there was really nothing to edit. It just listed a bunch of templates. So, I imagine that the entire template itself needs to be edited ... and that said edit would subsequently appear in all "date"-type of articles (not just the April 7 article). So, my question: what Talk Page do I need to go to? Here? Or somewhere else? This is my specific edit / question. The article states: 268 days remain until the end of the year.. I thought that sentences are not supposed to start with numbers. So, it would have to be re-worded to something like: A total of 268 days remain until the end of the year. (or some such wording). (Am I correct about that rule of grammar?) What needs to be done? Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 15:19, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
- I suspect this issue will affect the other 365 day of the year articles. You are correct that sentences should almost never start with figures. My suggestion would be to replace the full stop at the end of the first sentence with a semicolon. Mjroots (talk) 15:33, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
- The text is made by Day. There is already an old discussion at Template talk:Day#Present tense. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:39, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. I can't make heads or tails out of that template page article ... Day. I don't see anywhere, where there is some sort of text that states "X number of days remain until the end of the year". (And, thus, said text would be edit-able, I imagine?) Also, that discussion is two years old ... so, posting there would not be effective. What -- if anything -- should I do? Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 15:47, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
- It reads the day from the page name so the display is disabled at top of Template:Day where it would make a bunch of meaningless error messages. I have added an example display to Template:Day#Usage. On preview it displays what the previewed version would display. You can ask for input at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Days of the year. No response to edit proposals on edit restricted articles - next step?
Hi, a question for the Ediquette Team: I'm an unregistered IP, and there are pages I can't edit. Unless it's typos, I always declare on the talk page first anyway, but sometimes that's all that happens. Does it occur that some 'inedible' article is forgotten, more or less? I feel it would be inappropriate/fruitless to go "HEY GUYS!" on the talk page, so is there some other, established chain-of-command procedure to follow? I guess I could contact users found on the article history page, but is that comme il faut, or a faux pas? TiA! T 84.208.86.134 (talk) 23:33, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
- I think I understand the question to be, what happens if you want to suggest a change to a semi-protected page, and no one answers your comment on the article talk page? You can use the Edit semi-protected template, which puts your question in a category that helpful editors patrol. I'm not guaranteeing the response is quick - I haven't used it and don't really know the backlog time - but at least you're in the queue. You could also create an account. --Floquenbeam (talk) 23:39, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

Is there a user page template for not being able to edit due to being in China and having spotty internet?
I discovered the numerous WikiBreak templates today and decided to put one on my user page due to high school. Since I plan on going to China for university, and the VPN connections are spotty there, I plan on having another notice on my user page later this year. Is there a template for "this person will have limited access to Wikipedia due to being in China and having restricted Internet" or something like that? Impact
On January 21, 2017, the nationwide Women's March was estimated to have been the largest single-day demonstration in United States History.[1] It is difficult to tell what type of legislative impact the march had on the U.S. Government. Still, it likely brought awareness to women's general issues, given the event's magnitude. The Lincoln March was one of three in Nebraska that day. [2] The Lincoln March recurred every year, including 2020 when it was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It remains to be seen whether the march will occur under the Biden administration. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kala miner (talk • contribs)

Question about sneed and chuck
In a The Simpsons episode (E-I-E-I-(Annoyed_Grunt)), there is a store that is called "Sneed's Feed and Seed (Formerly Chuck's)". Does this mean the store was called Chuck's Feed and Seed? I don't get it. 105.111.91.78 (talk) 03:48, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

Edit for INNO CITY wikipedia page
Hi I found an untrue content on INNO CITY page. It's saying "The development was built as a joint venture between South Korean Inno Group and the military-owned Myanmar Economic Holdings Limited (MEHL)." INNO CITY project is developed by INNO INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT CO., LTD. and this company is a joint venture of INNO GROUP and Myanmar local company, not MEHL.
I tried to edit this content, but my edit has undone because of unexplained content removal. Please let me know how I can remove the untrue content and change it to the real fact. Thank you.
- Hello. First of all, apologies for reverting your questions here.
- Based on the diff it is clear that you not only change the MEHL, but you also attempted to remove whole sections about the Controversy of this project, and also the plans of the project. When removing contents, you must justify your actions, such as providing verifiable references that the content is not true. SunDawn (talk) 07:28, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- Wikipedia has no way to determine WP:TRUTH. Instead, we use verifiable assertions based on reliable published sources (WP:RS). If a statement is supported by a cited reliable source, you must not remove it. If that statement is contradicted by a different reliable source, you can add that contradiction to the article and cite your source. If subsequent developments have changed the situation, is is sometimes appropriate to modify existing sentences (e.g., change the verb tense). -Arch dude (talk) 14:32, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
G5 speedy deletion

Jack Fallon - Urgent
Hello, When Googling the name "Jack Fallon" a Wikipedia page comes up with a Jazz Musician. However, Jack Fallon is a CEO for a large health company, and his picture is attached to this article. How can we attach the right article for when people search Jack Fallon? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.160.166.234 (talk) 14:26, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- We cannot control what Google shows, you need to contact them
- Are you by any chance referring to a photo or text shown to the right of a Google search? Google's Knowledge Graph uses a wide variety of sources. There may be a text paragraph ending with "Wikipedia" to indicate that particular text was copied from Wikipedia. An image and other text before or after the Wikipedia excerpt may be from sources completely unrelated to Wikipedia. We have no control over how Google presents our information, but Google's Knowledge Graph has a "Feedback" link where anyone can mark a field as wrong. The same feedback facility is also provided on Bing and some other search engines. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:31, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- Courtesy link to Wikipedia's article Jack Fallon. We do not have an article on the businessman or on any other persons who share this name. The businessman might, but probably does not, merit a Wikipedia article of his own, as it is unlikely that he has garnered much coverage by independent reliable sources unless he is prominent, for reasons beyond merely doing his job competently, that might make him Notable in Wikipedia's special sense of the term. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 2.219.35.136 (talk) 16:38, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- Yup - no Jack Fallon of Total Life Changes that I can find. A Google search shows that he's unlikely to qualify for his own article. The image in this article appears to be jazz musician Jack Fallon.3 If his article had a photo, it might override the businessman's photo in the search results. Anyone more knowledgeable with Wikipedia copyright guidelines know if uploading it would be considered fair use, since he's not alive anymore, and there's no visible copyright info on the site? Can we infer that it has been placed in the public domain, thus meeting the fair use guidelines? It also appears here, with no photographer attribution 4.TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 19:12, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
Interlinking image file with English Wikipedia
When I interlinking the this image with English Wikipedia article infobox called "image" parameter, the image doesn't appear. The image exists in Ukrainian Wikipedia. What is the problem? The Supermind (talk) 14:48, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- That image exists in the Ukrainian-language Wikipedia only. It would have to be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons in order for it to be used in other languages' Wikipedias. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:39, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

Why were my page additions reverted?
Hi, I'm new to editing Wikipedia pages and just added some useful information to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ledbury and was then sent the message below. I'm not sure what I did wrong and would appreciate any help and guidance to understand why my additions were reverted. Thank you.
Hello, I'm SunDawn. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions—specifically this edit to Ledbury—because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Help desk. Thanks. SunDawn (talk) 15:35, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
80.189.53.189 (talk) 16:17, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- Hello IP user. SunDawn can probably give you more information behind their reasoning for reverting your edit. That said, I imagine they believed your edit resembled linkspam. Extermal links can be valuable additions to a page, but it must be done with care. For one thing, they should not be placed in the body of the article, which your edit did. They also should not use promotional sounding language such as, "For more local Herefordshire Folklore and History visit...", which your edit did. You also included the link at the end in the external links section, which if that link belongs anywhere on the page, that is where it belongs. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 16:41, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- Hello! This is a diff of the change you made that I reverted. I reverted the change for the reason ONUnicorn (talk · contribs) has mentioned, namely because of this sentence: "For more local Herefordshire Folklore and History visit..." that have promotional prose, which should not be on Wikipedia. Placing the site on the external links section would not be a problem, as the site is neutral and cover the topic pretty well. Thank you!SunDawn (talk) 23:14, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
Problems accessing EnWiki
Hi - an editor I know and trust has contacted me by e-mail to tell me that she is unable to access EnWiki today - not that she can't edit, but she can't connect at all. "The server at en.wikipedia.org is taking too long to respond." She's checked with friends and family in the same locale with same ISP, they can get access, but despite multiple reboots, trying different servers, even trying her husband's computer, she's not getting access. Other websites all work fine, just EnWiki for some reason. Any thoughts about what to try? (If it matters, she's in Mexico). Thanks in advance for any suggestions, which I will have to forward by e-mail (since she can't see this page!). GirthSummit (blether) 17:16, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- If it helps anyone think of a possible solution, she can't get onto any Wikimedia sites, like EsWiki or Commons, they just won't connect. It's been like this since she got up this morning. GirthSummit (blether) 17:48, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- WP:VPT is probably a better place to ask, Girth Summit. --ColinFine (talk) 18:09, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

Starting a page
Hi, can you please help me with starting a page for the shanty crew i sing with thanks Mitsubishi03 (talk) 17:26, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- Mitsubishi03, you're going to want to read WP:COI first, then WP:NMUSIC. If your shanty crew is notable, it would probably be better to let someone else write about it. GirthSummit (blether) 17:35, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
Hello im trying to create a wikipedia page
Hihi, im trying to create a wikipedia page about someone here in Iceland, when you search Sunneva Einarsdóttir on google you get photos of the correct person but the information is about a icelandic handball player, I want to make a new page for the person that the photos belong to (Sunneva Eir Einarsdóttir). She is a social media star in Iceland with a following of almost 60.000 people. Let me know what steps i can take to do this please. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bigtechbenzo (talk • contribs) 18:36, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

- There are probably 1,000,000 or more people who have 60,000 followers in social media. Do you have any evidence that she is actually notable in any way? If so, for what? Where is she written about? --Orange Mike | Talk 18:51, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
Registered Porfessional Accountas of canada
Hi I am trying to edit our page regarding Registered Professional Accountants this designation belongs to us and the information in Wikipedia is very old and misleading what is Our organization RPA, and I get this message once I do an edition
Hello, I'm CommanderWaterford. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Registered_professional_accountant — Preceding unsigned comment added by Spacrpacanada (talk • contribs) 20:45, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- Spacrpcanada, I have just left a template on your talk page with some information about our conflict of interest guidelines. Please note that Registered professional accountant is not the Society of Professional Accountants of Canada's page (you refer to it above as "our page"); it is Wikipedia's page about Registered professional accountants. Your edit to that page removed basically all the content and replaced it with "for More information go to our website www.rpacanada.org", which is entirely inappropriate. Now, obviously, we do not want the content to be obsolete and misleading. The preferred action for you, as an editor with a conflict of interest regarding that subject, to take is to make an edit request, by typing "request edit" on the article's talk page, and then specifying what should be changed in a format like, "Change X to Y." You should also cite some reliable sources which are independent of the Society of Professional Accountants to support the changes. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 20:56, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

Trouble publishing/saving sandbox changes
Not sure if this is where I should post this, but I am working on one of my sandbox pages and for some reason, I can't publish/save the work as I get this error " Error contacting the Parsoid/RESTBase server (HTTP 504)". Tried searching online for answers but didn't find anything. When I copied the content of the page to another sandbox, it saved properly, so not sure what's wrong.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

- @Mariemk: Could be a settings issue with the VisualEditor. The quick answer is to just abandon that sandbox. A more detailed answer could be found at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical), a more technical forum. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 21:52, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
Image not removed from Continuous track article even though history shows it has.
I've just edited Continuous track to remove an image duplication. However when I look at the article - it's still there, even though diffs clearly shows that it's gone. What's going on here?
Image in question is removed from the gallery section. Chaheel Riens (talk) 21:40, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Chaheel Riens: It looks like you removed it from a hidden list showing which items were moved to the gallery, but not the gallery item itself. I just did it. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 21:48, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
