Requested moves is a process for requesting the retitling (moving) of an article, template, or project page on Wikipedia. (For retitling files, categories and other items, see When not to use this page.)
Please read the article titling policy and the guideline regarding primary topics before moving a page or requesting a page move.
Any autoconfirmed user can use the Move function to perform most moves (see Help:How to move a page). If you have no reason to expect a dispute concerning a move, be bold and move the page. However, it may not always be possible or desirable to do this:
- Technical reasons may prevent a move: a page may already exist at the target title and require deletion, or the page may be protected from moves. See: § Requesting technical moves.
- Requests to revert recent, undiscussed, controversial moves may be made at WP:RM/TR. If the new name has not become the stable title, the undiscussed move will be reverted. If the new name has become the stable title, a requested move will be needed to determine the article's proper location.
- A title may be disputed, and discussion may be necessary to reach consensus: see § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. The requested moves process is not mandatory, and sometimes an informal discussion at the article's talk page can help reach consensus.
- Unregistered users and new (not yet autoconfirmed) users are unable to move pages.
Requests are generally processed after seven days. If consensus is reached at or after this time, a reviewer will enact the request. If not, the request may be re-listed to allow more time for consensus to develop, or the discussion closed as "no consensus". See Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions for more details on the process.
Wikipedia:Move review can be used to contest the outcome of a move request as long as all steps are followed. If a discussion on the closer's talk page does not resolve an issue, then a move review will evaluate the close of the move discussion to determine whether or not the contested close was reasonable and consistent with the spirit and intent of common practice, policies, and guidelines.
When not to use this page
Separate processes exist for moving certain types of pages, and for changes other than page moves:
- Making an uncontroversial move – if you can, be bold and do it yourself! If you can't, see § Requesting technical moves.
- Renaming a category – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming a stub template – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming an image or other file – see Wikipedia:Moving a page § Moving a file page.
- Moves from draft namespace or user space – (new/unconfirmed users only) add
{{subst:submit}}
to the top of the article. See Wikipedia:Articles for creation. - Merging two articles – make a request at Wikipedia:Proposed mergers, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Requesting that page histories be merged – list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge.
- Contesting a move request close – use the Wikipedia:Move review process.
Undiscussed moves
Autoconfirmed editors may move a page without discussion if all of the following apply:
- No article exists at the new target title;
- There has been no discussion (especially no recent discussion) about the title of the page that expressed any objection to a new title; and
- It seems unlikely that anyone would reasonably disagree with the move.
If you disagree with such a move, and the new title has not been in place for a long time, you may revert the move. If you cannot revert the move for technical reasons, then you may request a technical move.
Move wars are disruptive, so if you make a bold move and it is reverted, do not make the move again. Instead, follow the procedures laid out in § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves.
Requesting technical moves
If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct page if you tried to move a page, and you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:".
![]() If you are here because you want an admin to approve of your new article or your proposed page move, you are in the wrong place.

- To list a technical request: the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code filling in pages and reason:
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new page title|reason=reason for move}}
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page. - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

Contested technical requests
Requests to revert undiscussed moves
Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves
The discussion process is used for potentially controversial moves. A move is potentially controversial if either of the following applies:
- there has been any past debate about the best title for the page;
- someone could reasonably disagree with the move.
Use this process if there is any reason to believe a move would be contested. For technical move requests, such as to correct obvious typographical errors, see Requesting technical moves. The technical moves procedure can also be used for uncontroversial moves when the requested title is occupied by an existing article.
Do not create a new move request when one is already open on the same talk page. Instead, consider contributing to the open discussion if you would like to propose another alternative. Multiple closed move requests may be on the same page, but each should have a unique section heading.
Do not create a move request to rename one or more redirects. Redirects cannot be used as current titles in requested moves.
Requesting a single page move
To request a single page move, click on the "New section" tab of the talk page of the article you want moved, without adding a new subject/header, inserting this code:
{{subst:requested move|NewName|reason=Place here your rationale for the proposed page name change, ideally referring to applicable naming convention policies and guidelines, and providing evidence in support where appropriate. If your reasoning includes search engine results, please prioritize searches limited to reliable sources (e.g. books, news, scholarly papers) over other web results. You don't need to add your signature at the end, as this template will do so automatically.}}
Replace NewName
with the requested new name of the page (or with a simple question mark, if you want more than one possible new name to be considered). The template will automatically create the heading "Requested move 13 March 2021" and sign the post for you.
There is no need to edit the article in question. Once the above code is added to the Talk page, a bot will automatically add the following notification at the top of the article:
Note: Unlike other request processes on Wikipedia, such as Requests for comment, nominations need not be neutral. Make your point as best you can; use evidence (such as Google Ngrams and pageview statistics) and refer to applicable policies and guidelines, especially our article titling policy and the guideline on disambiguation and primary topics.
WikiProjects may subscribe to Article alerts to receive RM notifications. For example, Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Article alerts/Requested moves is transcluded to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Biography. RMCD bot notifies many of the other Wikiprojects listed on the talk page of the article to be moved to invite project members to participate in the RM discussion. Requesters should feel free to notify any other Wikiproject or noticeboard that might be interested in the move request, as long as this notification is neutral.
Single page move on a different talk page
Occasionally, a move request must be made on a talk page other than the talk page of the page to be moved. For example, a request to rename Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Resources to Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Reviewing and templates would need to take place at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Articles for creation because the talk page of the project page to be moved, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Articles for creation/Resources, is a redirect to that centralized discussion page. In this type of case, the requested move should be made using the following code:
{{subst:requested move|reason=(the reason for the page move goes here).|current1=(present title of page to be renamed)|new1=(proposed title of page)}}
Note that the |1=
unnamed parameter is not used, and that the |current1=
and |new1=
parameters are used similar to multiple page moves described below.
Requesting multiple page moves
A single template may be used to request multiple related moves. On one of the talk pages of the affected articles, create a request and format it as below. A sample request for three page moves is shown here (for two page moves, omit the lines for current3 and new3). For four page moves, add lines for current4 and new4, and so on. There is no technical limit on the number of multiple move requests, but before requesting very large multi-moves, consider whether a naming convention should be changed first. Discuss that change on the talk page for the naming convention, e.g., Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (sportspeople).
To request a multiple page move, edit at the bottom of the talk page of the article you chose for your request, without adding a new header, inserting this code:
{{subst:requested move
| current1 = Current title of page 1
| new1 = New title for page 1 with the talk page hosting this discussion
| current2 = Current title of page 2
| new2 = New title for page 2
| current3 = Current title of page 3
| new3 = New title for page 3
| reason = Place here your rationale for the proposed page name change, ideally referring to applicable naming convention policies and guidelines, and providing evidence in support where appropriate. If your reasoning includes search engine results, please prioritize searches limited to reliable sources (e.g. books, news, scholarly papers) over other web results. You don't need to add your signature at the end, as this template will do so automatically.}}
For example, to propose moving the articles Wikipedia
and Wiki
, put this template on Talk:Wikipedia
, and replace current2
with Wiki
. The discussion for all affected articles is held on the talk page of the article at page 1 (Talk:Wikipedia
). Do not sign a request with ~~~~
as the template does this automatically. Do not skip pairs of numbers.
RMCD bot automatically places a notice section on the talk page of the additional pages that are included in your request, advising that the move discussion is in progress, where it is, and that all discussion for all pages included in the request should take place at that one location.
Occasionally the discussions for significant multi-move requests may be hosted on WikiProject talk pages or other pages in Project namespace. For multi-move discussions hosted on a page which is not itself proposed to be moved, specify |current1=Current title of page 1
for the first page to move.
Request all associated moves explicitly
Please list every move that you wish to have made in your request. For example, if you wish to move Cricket (disambiguation) to Cricket because you do not believe the sport is the primary topic for the search term "Cricket", then you actually want to move two pages, both Cricket (disambiguation) and Cricket. Thus you must list proposed titles for each page affected by your request. For example, you might propose:
If a new title is not proposed for the sport, it is more difficult to achieve consensus for a new title for that article. A move request that does not show what to do with the material at its proposed target, such as:
is incomplete. As a malformed move request, it may be subject to early closure on procedural grounds.

Commenting on a requested move
All editors are welcome to contribute to the discussion regarding a requested page move. There are a number of standards that Wikipedians should practice in such discussions:
- When editors recommend a course of action, they write Support or Oppose in bold text, which is done by surrounding the word with three single quotes on each side, e.g.
'''Support'''
. - Comments or recommendations are added on a new bulleted line (that is, starting with *) and signed by adding
~~~~
to the end. Responses to another editor are threaded and indented using multiple bullets. - The article itself should be reviewed before any recommendation is made; do not base recommendations solely on the information supplied by other editors. It may also help to look at the article's edit history. However, please read the earlier comments and recommendations, as well as prior move requests. They may contain relevant arguments and useful information.
- Vested interests in the article should be disclosed per Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI.
When participating, please consider the following:
- Editors should make themselves familiar with the article titling policy at Wikipedia:Article titles.
- Other important guidelines that set forth community norms for article titles include Wikipedia:Disambiguation, specific naming conventions, and the manual of style.
- The debate is not a vote; please do not make recommendations that are not sustained by arguments.
- Explain how the proposed article title meets or contravenes policy and guidelines rather than merely stating that it does so.
- Nomination already implies that the nominator supports the name change, and nominators should refrain from repeating this recommendation on a separate bulleted line.[a]
- Do not make conflicting recommendations. If you change your mind, use strike-through to retract your previous statement by enclosing it between <s> and </s> after the bullets, and de-bold the struck words, as in "•
SupportOppose".
Please remember that reasonable editors will sometimes disagree, but that arguments based in policy, guidelines, and evidence have more weight than unsupported statements. When an editor offers an argument that does not explain how the move request is consistent with policies and guidelines, a reminder to engage in constructive, on-topic discussion may be useful. On the other hand, a pattern of responding to requests with groundless opinion, proof by assertion, and ignoring content guidelines may become disruptive. If a pattern of disruptive behavior persists after efforts are made to correct the situation through dialogue, please consider using a dispute resolution process.
Closing a requested move
Any uninvolved editor in good standing may close a move request. Please read the closing instructions for information on how to close a move request. The Simple guide to closing RM discussions details how to actually close a requested move discussion.
Relisting a requested move
Relisting a discussion moves the request out of the backlog up to the current day in order to encourage further input. The decision to relist a discussion is best left to uninvolved experienced editors upon considering, but declining, to close the discussion. In general, discussions should not be relisted more than once before properly closing.[b] Users relisting a debate which has already been relisted, or relisting a debate with a substantial discussion, should write a short explanation on why they did not consider the debate sufficient to close. While there is no consensus forbidding participation in a requested move discussion after relisting it, many editors consider it an inadvisable form of supervote. If you want to relist a discussion and then participate in it, be prepared to explain why you think it was appropriate.
Relisting can be done using {{subst:relisting}}
, which automatically includes the relister's signature, and which must be placed at the very end of the initial request after the move requester's signature (and subsequent relisters' signatures). When a discussion has been relisted a bot partially underlines the "Discuss" link in the lists of debates: (Discuss).
When a relisted discussion reaches a resolution, it may be closed at any time according to the closing instructions; there is no required length of time to wait before closing a relisted discussion.
If discussion has become stale, or it seems that discussion would benefit from more input of editors versed in the subject area, consider more widely publicizing the discussion, such as by notifying WikiProjects of the discussion using the template {{RM notification}}. Banners placed at the top of the talk page hosting the move request can often be used to identify WikiProjects suitable for notification.
Notes
- ^ A nominator making a procedural nomination with which they may not agree is free to add a bulleted line explaining their actual position. Additional detail, such as sources, may also be provided in an additional bullet point if its inclusion in the nomination statement would make the statement unwieldy. Please remember that the entire nomination statement is transcluded into the list on this page.
- ^ Despite this, discussions are occasionally relisted more than once.
Current discussions
- This section lists all requests filed or identified as potentially controversial which are currently under discussion.
- (Discuss) – Yan Tan Tethera → Yan tan tethera – Per WP:NCCAPS and MOS:CAPS and MOS:NUM. Ordinal and cardinal numbers are not proper names (in English, Welsh, or any other relevant language), nor are counting or other traditional systems (see in particular MOS:DOCTCAPS), nor are rhyme/meter schemes (except where their names contain things that are proper names in their own right), nor are folk games and pastimes and other folkloric practices (cf. - (Discuss) – Adiós Amigo → Adios Amigo – The 1975 American film Adios Amigo is an English-language production that does not use an accent either on the poster or in the credits. Here is its entry in the American Film Institute Catalog. The second nomination, Adios Amigos (2016 film) is the sole film with that exact title, thus its header should be streamlined as Adios Amigos (film). As for the third nomination — the main title header of the Adiós Amigos disambiguation page — none of the dab page entries is accented (the entry under "Songs" — "Adiós Amigos" by Marty Robbins, R. Girado is not accented — here is the record label), thus the dab page header needs no accent. — Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 06:04, 13 March 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Matt Bissonette → Matt Bissonette (musician) – Back when this Matt Bissonette was the only one with a standalone article, and the American writer and Navy SEAL Matt Bissonnette just had a redirect to his book instead of a standalone BLP of him as a person, just hatnoting made sense — however, there is now also an article about the filmmaker and screenwriter Matt Bissonnette (director), with the plain title Matt Bissonnette converted from a redirect to the book into a disambiguation page, so there are now three Matt Bisson(n)ettes instead of just two. The problem with this is that the Bissonette and Bissonnette spellings are regularly confused with each other, and it is not at all difficult to find sources that refer to the film director or the Navy SEAL with one n instead of two, or to the musician with two n's instead of one — see, for example, "Death of a Ladies’ Man star Gabriel Byrne and director Matt Bissonette talk about the horror of addiction, "The first front-row version of that fateful night in Abbottabad came from the book No Easy Day by Matt Bissonette" and "John Mahon, Kim Bullard, and Matt Bissonnette sound as if they were always with Elton from Day 1". So the musician should be disambiguated as if his name were spelled the same as the other two, with the plain title redirected to the disambiguation page at Matt Bissonnette, because there's a clear pattern of people not always being able to keep it straight who has which spelling. Spelling out the acronym might help clearly identify the subject of the article, and further disambiguating it with "Space Shuttle" will make it clear what the subject is a test article of (WP:DAB), and make it consistent with other articles about test articles and orbiters that use "Space Shuttle" as a disambiguator, such as Space Shuttle Inspiration, Space Shuttle Pathfinder, Space Shuttle Enterprise, ect. - (Discuss) – Travancore–Cochin → Travancore-Cochin – this is a procedural nomination, without recommendation, in search of a consensus on whether to use a hyphen or an endash.
This article was moved in mid-2020 to its current title @Ab207, with the rationaleReplacing hyphen with ndash per MOS:DASH
. That move was apparently undiscussed, but it a perfectly valid rationale for a speedy move, so no criticism.
However, that udiscussed move has left this head article out-of-synch with its eponymous Category:Travancore-Cochin and with related articles such as 1952 Travancore-Cochin Legislative Assembly election. If this discussion establishes a consensus one way or the other, then the categories and other articles can be speedily moved to match the outcome here. - (Discuss) – Soong Mei-ling → Soong May-ling – The RM leading to the current title was essentially unattended, and looking over the rationale it doesn't make a lot of sense. The article subject, who lived much of her life in the Anglosphere and spoke English, always signed her name in English as Soong May-ling, and the current title is a bizarre mashup of Wade-Giles and Pinyin; I dislike Wade-Giles as much as the next guy, but in this case it's how she always spelled her own name. Eddie Heywood continues to redirect to Eddie Heywood Jr., but the same type of hatnote as at Jason Robards — For his father, see Jason Robards Sr. — will suffice for Eddie Heywood who, like Robards, became much better known than his father. — Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 06:02, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
The poem is eponymous of other related things, like Franko’s nickname Kameniar and several organizations and publications.[3][4] It is a wp: NOTABLE subject, having a short Ukrainian-language article at. And remember, articles are generally about their subject, not its name (see wp: REFERS). # The most common spelling is romanized from Ukrainian with я → ia, not ya. Counting sources according to wp: SET: #* G. Advanced Book Search results: #** Kameniar 4,050, Kamenyar 340, 11.9 to 1 #** Kameniari 279, Kamenyari 91, 3.1 to 1 #* G. - (Discuss) – Augusta, Lady Gregory → Lady Gregory – The subject of this article is known far-and-wide as "Lady Gregory". It is by far most common. That’s how her name appears on the title pages and the covers of the books she has authored, which can be seen if you click on the blue links in this article's Published Works section — in all of them she is referred to as Lady Gregory. In her autobiography, Our Irish Theatre: A Chapter of Autobiography she is referred to as "Lady Gregory" by herself and others including George Bernard Shaw, William Butler Yeats and Theodore Roosevelt. Recent books and articles refer to her as "Lady Gregory", including (to name only one) Lady Gregory: an Irish Life, by Judith Hill, (2011). "Wikipedia:Article titles" says: "Generally, article titles are based on what the subject is called in reliable sources. … the ideal article title precisely identifies the subject; it is short, natural, distinguishable and recognizable". - (Discuss) – Cygnus CRS Orb-1 → Cygnus Orb-1 – I thought I'd open the discussion here, as it'd attract as many opinions as possible compared to if I placed it on the talk page of any of these articles. Anyways, it just seemed weird to me that we have different naming schemes going for the Northrop Grumman Cygnus missions and the Orbital Sciences / Orbital ATK Cygnus missions. The article titles for the Northrop Grumman Cygnus missions have a good naming scheme in which the mission name – "NG-10", "NG-11", "NG-12", ect. – is prefixed by the name of the spacecraft class being flown – "Cygnus" – in order to disambiguate the name from being a seemingly random assortment of two letters and two numbers (WP:DAB). We would get the same idea if we applied the same naming scheme to the Orbital Sciences / Orbital ATK Cygnus missions; we really don't need to further disambiguate with "CRS" in order to communicate that these are Cygnus spaceflight missions instead of something else called "Orb" or "OA" (WP:PRECISION), in my opinion. — Molly Brown (talk) 13:51, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Finwë → Finwë and Míriel – I am surprised that this short article is untouched by the wave of PROD's, AfD's and merger proposals across the Middle-earth project between 2019 to 2020, since Finwë has always been more of a plot device then a fully formed character and he dies very early in the story. Anyway, reading the prose as well as sources provided on the current version of article gave me the impression that the only significant out-of-universe discussion about Finwë is his story with his first wife, with a whole section under Concept and creation about their contributions to the backstory of their son and its narrative significance, and the complicated circumstances behind their deaths which ultimately inform Fëanor's motivations and the fate of the Noldor. I am not sure if there are further sources which specifically discuss Finwë, but I did find a few more which specifically discuss Miriel here and here, and a full length article with their relationship as the headline here. If such sources were to be added to the article to expand the analysis about the story of Finwë and Míriel and make a case of its significance (and ultimately inclusion on Wikipedia as a notable topic), it makes sense to me if the article is renamed and reworked to include a broader range of sources. - (Discuss) – Prince Luiz of Orléans-Braganza → Luiz of Orléans-Braganza – According to the most reliable sources, nobility titles no longer exist in Brazil: they were abolished in the late XIX Century 1 2 3 4 5. That is because the 1891 Constitution clearly stated those titles were suppressed 6. As a consequence, this article in Portuguese is named "Luíz Gastão de Orléans e Bragança" and not "Prince...". Also, as discussed previously here, WP:Commonname is irrelevant in this case because otherwise any title is likely to be included when someone has one, uses an illegitimate one, or is given an illegitimate one by tabloid-type media, monarchist blogs, and social media pages. WP:Commonname also does not apply here because this person is known as "prince..." exclusively in Brazilian monarchist circles; in fact, he only is known to monarchists and remains largely unknown to society in general. Moreover, his claim as Head of the Imperial House of Brazil is a complete fiction. That claim remains disputed within his own family, and there is not such thing as the Imperial House of Brazil as an institution (that's an informal concept created by monarchists after the abolition of all nobility titles and imperial institutions in 1891). - (Discuss) – Kawkaban → Shibam Kawkaban – The current title is inaccurate: Shibam and Kawkaban are distinct settlements that are neighbors. Wilson's 1989 Gazetteer of Historical North-West Yemen has two separate entries, one for Shibam and one for Kawkaban. The entry for Shibam (p. 198) says that "it is overlooked by its fortress-town of Kawkaban at the summit of the cliffs to the south-west of it", while the entry for Kawkaban (p. 284) describes it as "the fort of Shibam and large enough to be a sizeable settlement in its own right". Additionally, the current administrative division is called Shibam Kawkaban District, and the seat is located at Shibam, rather than Kawkaban. My proposal is to either 1) have separate articles for the two places, or 2) have a single combined article, with the title being Shibam Kawkaban. Right now I prefer option 2 because I don't think there would be enough content to justify splitting. The name "Shibam Kawkaban" conveniently both disambiguates this Shibam from Shibam Hadramawt and also indicates that this article is also about Kawkaban. 3 kids in a trenchcoat (talk) 22:08, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Wipeout (2008 American game show) → Wipeout (2008 game show) – The current title for this article currently contains unnecessary "double disambiguation". As Wipeout (2008 American game show)#International versions outside the U.S. makes clear, only three "Wipeout" game shows were released in 2008: this American version (the "mother" series), a Turkish version (which does not have its own article), and a Spanish version "¡Guaypaut!" (which also doesn't have its own article, and which has a unique title in any case). In other words, there is no other 2008 "game show" article with this title, and we don't do "preemptive disambiguation" on Wikipedia. - (Discuss) – Time Will Tell (American game show) → Time Will Tell (game show) – I pretty thoroughly messed this up while trying to "fix" the disambiguation at these two articles. For background, they were both previously incorrectly disambiguated with "TV series", which necessitated moving them to "by country" disambiguation as per WP:NCTV. But, in fact, the American show was a 1950s game show, and the Russian show is a 2014 talk show, so "game show" and "talk show" are sufficient disambiguation in and of themselves as per WP:NCTV, so the "by country" disambiguation is superfluous in this case. I'm doing this as a RM because I messed up my attempt at a "fix" so badly the first time... --IJBall (contribs • talk) 23:35, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Across the black soil plains → Across the Black Soil Plains – These seven nominations were considered for separate submissions, but were bundled into a single nomination because they represent titles of works by the same artist under Category:Paintings by George Washington Lambert. The argument that the lowercase form should be retained since it represents the original title of the work did not prevail in a similar 2013 discussion at Talk:A Boy Was Born#Requested move (the 1934 composition was originally referenced as A Boy was Born). The counter-argument is that in earlier eras orthography was not standardized and initial caps were used in a random and inconsistent fashion, but that for Wikipedia purposes, MOS:CT prevails. — Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 22:18, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Proto-state → Quasi-state – # Quasi-state is used in more reliable sources, and so is supported by WP:COMMONNAME. In searches according to the guidelines given in WP:GOOG: #* Google Advanced Book Search, with quotation marks, omitting “Wikipedia,” and restricted to English-language sources favours quasi-state by 48,400 to 8,780, or 5.5 to 1 #* Google Scholar Search, with quotation marks and omitting “Wikipedia,” favours quasi-state by 18,800 to 4,310, or 4.4 to 1 # Quasi-state is supported by a definition in a topical encyclopedic reference (based on my very brief search; please bring more examples and counter-examples). The Parry and Grant Encyclopaedic Dictionary of International Law (3rd ed., 2009) has a definition of “quasi-state,” also referenced by a see-also entry “state-like entity,” but does not mention the term proto-state at all[1] This at least partially satisfies WP:VERIFY. # Quasi-state is broader and more likely to be an accurate name for every example in this article, and in any other case where it will be used following the main article’s title. Semantically, proto-states is a subset of the more encompassing class quasi-states. According to my dictionary, proto- means “original or primitive,” implying that something called a proto-state may be on some deterministic path to statehood. Quasi- means “seemingly; apparently but not really,” without implying any striving for statehood, or impending achievement or failure. Technically, proto-state is best used only for historical entities that have since achieved independent statehood. The term quasi-state applies to more things and doesn’t imply some pre-judgment about their future, which may well be questionable: it is less likely to violate WP:NPOV when used un-judicially, both in this article and by editors who follow its example throughout Wikipedia.
- (Discuss) – Tripurari Swami → Bhaktivedanta Tripurari – Unlike sannyasis in ISKCON, of which the subject hasn't been part since the 1980s, the "Swami" is a) not part of Tripurari's name and b) does not come after it when used as a title. His name is Bhaktivedanta Tripurari, or [Swami] BV Tripurari for short, and this should be the article title, which it was until 2014. Wikipedia doesn't use "Swami" or "Goswami" for Gaudiya Vaishnava sannyasis when it not part of their name: So we have Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati (not Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Goswami), Bhakti Hridaya Bon (not Swami Bon), Bhakti Rakshak Sridhar (not Swami BR Sridhar), etc. (The "Swami" in A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami was part of his name, equivalent to the Tripurari in Bhaktivedanta Tripurari). Please see Tripurari's official website and this tribute from a sannyasa disciple on the Tripurari-owned Harmonist.us. - (Discuss) – Coalition (Australia) → Liberal–National Coalition – The principle of article titles is that they are concise, precise and recognizable. It occurs to me that the title Coalition (Australia) is less concise, precise and recognizable than Liberal–National Coalition. A coalition is a mix of political parties/groups governing together, and that is not exclusivley the domain of the Liberal National Coalition in Australia. Saying "the Coalition" in Australian political discourse is reasonably likely to make someone think of the Liberal and National parties, but this is not guaranteed. As we speak there is "a Coalition" in power in the ACT, specifically a Labor-Green one, in fact such a coalition has existed for the last 8+ years. Its also not uncommon for the phrase "Labor-Green coalition" to be pursued during federal and state elections, often by Liberal or National advocates arguing against voting for either Labor or the Greens. Furthermore non-Australian readers would consider the "Coalition" to mean any number of potential political alliances. To sum up, it doesn't make sense to simplify a title to something vaguer and less recognizable than the lede of this article already implies; "The Liberal–National Coalition, commonly known simply as the Coalition..." :-Gscholar hits for "Polish-German declaration" - 90, GScholar hits for "German-Polish declaration" - 56, GScholar hits for "Polish-German Pact" - 36, Gscholar hits for "German-Polish pact" - 67. A review shows all these hits refer to the agreement of 1934. "Declaration" is the common name for the agreement. Importantly these are all sources discussing the agreement at some level of detail, and not just sources referring to a "German-Polish non-aggression pact" in passing. Notably also of the 15 references cited in the article all but Rothwell (which calls it a "friendship treaty") and "Poland's role in the Holocaust" (which calls it a "pact") calls it a "declaration". "Declaration" is clearly the name preferred by higher-quality sources. :-This is a rare case when the most reliable sources actually tell us that the present name is wrong - see especially p.1 here and the review here where it is included in a list of errors ("the declaration of non-aggression between Poland and Germany was not a treaty") :-The present name is a WP:POVNAME representing the view that this was a pact/alliance of sorts between Germany and Poland. The official title, in contrast, is more neutral. :-Accuracy. This is not just about this being the official name, but again that this agreement was not an alliance (a claim made for propaganda purposes in some places) and did not settle the border dispute. :-Consistency with the article - specifically it makes no sense to have a (necessary) section on why the Germans didn't want to call it a "pact" and then to refer to it as a "pact" in the title. :-WP:CRITERIA, specifically the proposed name is more precise and better disambiguates the agreement over certain Nazi-[Country] Non-Aggression Pacts.
