Requested moves is a process for requesting the retitling (moving) of an article, template, or project page on Wikipedia. (For retitling files, categories and other items, see When not to use this page.)
Please read the article titling policy and the guideline regarding primary topics before moving a page or requesting a page move.
Any autoconfirmed user can use the Move function to perform most moves (see Help:How to move a page). If you have no reason to expect a dispute concerning a move, be bold and move the page. However, it may not always be possible or desirable to do this:
- Technical reasons may prevent a move: a page may already exist at the target title and require deletion, or the page may be protected from moves. See: § Requesting technical moves.
- Requests to revert recent, undiscussed, controversial moves may be made at WP:RM/TR. If the new name has not become the stable title, the undiscussed move will be reverted. If the new name has become the stable title, a requested move will be needed to determine the article's proper location.
- A title may be disputed, and discussion may be necessary to reach consensus: see § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. The requested moves process is not mandatory, and sometimes an informal discussion at the article's talk page can help reach consensus.
- Unregistered users and new (not yet autoconfirmed) users are unable to move pages.
Requests are generally processed after seven days. If consensus is reached at or after this time, a reviewer will enact the request. If not, the request may be re-listed to allow more time for consensus to develop, or the discussion closed as "no consensus". See Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions for more details on the process.
Wikipedia:Move review can be used to contest the outcome of a move request as long as all steps are followed. If a discussion on the closer's talk page does not resolve an issue, then a move review will evaluate the close of the move discussion to determine whether or not the contested close was reasonable and consistent with the spirit and intent of common practice, policies, and guidelines.
When not to use this page
Separate processes exist for moving certain types of pages, and for changes other than page moves:
- Making an uncontroversial move – if you can, be bold and do it yourself! If you can't, see § Requesting technical moves.
- Renaming a category – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming a stub template – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming an image or other file – see Wikipedia:Moving a page § Moving a file page.
- Moves from draft namespace or user space – (new/unconfirmed users only) add

to the top of the article. See Wikipedia:Articles for creation. - Merging two articles – make a request at Wikipedia:Proposed mergers, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Requesting that page histories be merged – list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge.
- Contesting a move request close – use the Wikipedia:Move review process.
Undiscussed moves
Autoconfirmed editors may move a page without discussion if all of the following apply:
- No article exists at the new target title;
- There has been no discussion (especially no recent discussion) about the title of the page that expressed any objection to a new title; and
- It seems unlikely that anyone would reasonably disagree with the move.
If you disagree with such a move, and the new title has not been in place for a long time, you may revert the move. If you cannot revert the move for technical reasons, then you may request a technical move.
Move wars are disruptive, so if you make a bold move and it is reverted, do not make the move again. Instead, follow the procedures laid out in § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves.
Requesting technical moves
If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct page if you tried to move a page, and you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:".
If you are here because you want an admin to approve of your new article or your proposed page move, you are in the wrong place.

- To list a technical request: the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code filling in pages and reason:

This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page. - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

Requests to revert undiscussed moves
Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves
The discussion process is used for potentially controversial moves. A move is potentially controversial if either of the following applies:
- there has been any past debate about the best title for the page;
- someone could reasonably disagree with the move.
Use this process if there is any reason to believe a move would be contested. For technical move requests, such as to correct obvious typographical errors, see Requesting technical moves. The technical moves procedure can also be used for uncontroversial moves when the requested title is occupied by an existing article.
Do not create a new move request when one is already open on the same talk page. Instead, consider contributing to the open discussion if you would like to propose another alternative. Multiple closed move requests may be on the same page, but each should have a unique section heading.
Do not create a move request to rename one or more redirects. Redirects cannot be used as current titles in requested moves.
Requesting a single page move
To request a single page move, click on the "New section" tab of the talk page of the article you want moved, without adding a new subject/header, inserting this code:

Replace NewName
with the requested new name of the page (or with a simple question mark, if you want more than one possible new name to be considered). The template will automatically create the heading "Requested move 21 February 2021" and sign the post for you.
There is no need to edit the article in question. Once the above code is added to the Talk page, a bot will automatically add the following notification at the top of the article:
Note: Unlike other request processes on Wikipedia, such as Requests for comment, nominations need not be neutral. Make your point as best you can; use evidence (such as Google Ngrams and pageview statistics) and refer to applicable policies and guidelines, especially our article titling policy and the guideline on disambiguation and primary topics.
WikiProjects may subscribe to Article alerts to receive RM notifications. For example, Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Article alerts/Requested moves is transcluded to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Biography. RMCD bot notifies many of the other Wikiprojects listed on the talk page of the article to be moved to invite project members to participate in the RM discussion. Requesters should feel free to notify any other Wikiproject or noticeboard that might be interested in the move request, as long as this notification is neutral.
Single page move on a different talk page
Occasionally, a move request must be made on a talk page other than the talk page of the page to be moved. For example, a request to rename Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Resources to Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Reviewing and templates would need to take place at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Articles for creation because the talk page of the project page to be moved, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Articles for creation/Resources, is a redirect to that centralized discussion page. In this type of case, the requested move should be made using the following code:

Note that the |1=
unnamed parameter is not used, and that the |current1=
and |new1=
parameters are used similar to multiple page moves described below.
Requesting multiple page moves
A single template may be used to request multiple related moves. On one of the talk pages of the affected articles, create a request and format it as below. A sample request for three page moves is shown here (for two page moves, omit the lines for current3 and new3). For four page moves, add lines for current4 and new4, and so on. There is no technical limit on the number of multiple move requests, but before requesting very large multi-moves, consider whether a naming convention should be changed first. Discuss that change on the talk page for the naming convention, e.g., Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (sportspeople).
To request a multiple page move, edit at the bottom of the talk page of the article you chose for your request, without adding a new header, inserting this code:

For example, to propose moving the articles Wikipedia
and Wiki
, put this template on Talk:Wikipedia
, and replace current2
with Wiki
. The discussion for all affected articles is held on the talk page of the article at page 1 (Talk:Wikipedia
). Do not sign a request with ~~~~
as the template does this automatically. Do not skip pairs of numbers.
RMCD bot automatically places a notice section on the talk page of the additional pages that are included in your request, advising that the move discussion is in progress, where it is, and that all discussion for all pages included in the request should take place at that one location.
Occasionally the discussions for significant multi-move requests may be hosted on WikiProject talk pages or other pages in Project namespace. For multi-move discussions hosted on a page which is not itself proposed to be moved, specify |current1=Current title of page 1
for the first page to move.
Request all associated moves explicitly
Please list every move that you wish to have made in your request. For example, if you wish to move Cricket (disambiguation) to Cricket because you do not believe the sport is the primary topic for the search term "Cricket", then you actually want to move two pages, both Cricket (disambiguation) and Cricket. Thus you must list proposed titles for each page affected by your request. For example, you might propose:
If a new title is not proposed for the sport, it is more difficult to achieve consensus for a new title for that article. A move request that does not show what to do with the material at its proposed target, such as:
is incomplete. As a malformed move request, it may be subject to early closure on procedural grounds.

Commenting on a requested move
All editors are welcome to contribute to the discussion regarding a requested page move. There are a number of standards that Wikipedians should practice in such discussions:
- When editors recommend a course of action, they write Support or Oppose in bold text, which is done by surrounding the word with three single quotes on each side, e.g.
Support
. - Comments or recommendations are added on a new bulleted line (that is, starting with *) and signed by adding
~~~~
to the end. Responses to another editor are threaded and indented using multiple bullets. - The article itself should be reviewed before any recommendation is made; do not base recommendations solely on the information supplied by other editors. It may also help to look at the article's edit history. However, please read the earlier comments and recommendations, as well as prior move requests. They may contain relevant arguments and useful information.
- Vested interests in the article should be disclosed per Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI.
When participating, please consider the following:
- Editors should make themselves familiar with the article titling policy at Wikipedia:Article titles.
- Other important guidelines that set forth community norms for article titles include Wikipedia:Disambiguation, specific naming conventions, and the manual of style.
- The debate is not a vote; please do not make recommendations that are not sustained by arguments.
- Explain how the proposed article title meets or contravenes policy and guidelines rather than merely stating that it does so.
- Nomination already implies that the nominator supports the name change, and nominators should refrain from repeating this recommendation on a separate bulleted line.[a]
- Do not make conflicting recommendations. If you change your mind, use strike-through to retract your previous statement by enclosing it between <s> and </s> after the bullets, and de-bold the struck words, as in "•
SupportOppose".
Please remember that reasonable editors will sometimes disagree, but that arguments based in policy, guidelines, and evidence have more weight than unsupported statements. When an editor offers an argument that does not explain how the move request is consistent with policies and guidelines, a reminder to engage in constructive, on-topic discussion may be useful. On the other hand, a pattern of responding to requests with groundless opinion, proof by assertion, and ignoring content guidelines may become disruptive. If a pattern of disruptive behavior persists after efforts are made to correct the situation through dialogue, please consider using a dispute resolution process.
Closing a requested move
Any uninvolved editor in good standing may close a move request. Please read the closing instructions for information on how to close a move request. The Simple guide to closing RM discussions details how to actually close a requested move discussion.
Relisting a requested move
Relisting a discussion moves the request out of the backlog up to the current day in order to encourage further input. The decision to relist a discussion is best left to uninvolved experienced editors upon considering, but declining, to close the discussion. In general, discussions should not be relisted more than once before properly closing.[b] Users relisting a debate which has already been relisted, or relisting a debate with a substantial discussion, should write a short explanation on why they did not consider the debate sufficient to close. While there is no consensus forbidding participation in a requested move discussion after relisting it, many editors consider it an inadvisable form of supervote. If you want to relist a discussion and then participate in it, be prepared to explain why you think it was appropriate.
Relisting can be done using
, which automatically includes the relister's signature, and which must be placed at the very end of the initial request after the move requester's signature (and subsequent relisters' signatures). When a discussion has been relisted a bot partially underlines the "Discuss" link in the lists of debates: (Discuss).
When a relisted discussion reaches a resolution, it may be closed at any time according to the closing instructions; there is no required length of time to wait before closing a relisted discussion.
If discussion has become stale, or it seems that discussion would benefit from more input of editors versed in the subject area, consider more widely publicizing the discussion, such as by notifying WikiProjects of the discussion using the template RM notification. Banners placed at the top of the talk page hosting the move request can often be used to identify WikiProjects suitable for notification.
Notes
- ^ A nominator making a procedural nomination with which they may not agree is free to add a bulleted line explaining their actual position. Additional detail, such as sources, may also be provided in an additional bullet point if its inclusion in the nomination statement would make the statement unwieldy. Please remember that the entire nomination statement is transcluded into the list on this page.
- ^ Despite this, discussions are occasionally relisted more than once.
Current discussions
- This section lists all requests filed or identified as potentially controversial which are currently under discussion.
This list is also available in a page-link-first format and in table format. 50 discussions have been relisted, indicated by (Discuss)
- (Discuss) – Greenwich (disambiguation) → Greenwich – No clear primary topic given the large number of other uses, although some like Greenwich, Connecticut derive from the one in London (or indirectly such as the Ohio one being named after the CT one) not all appear to such as Greenwich, Nova Scotia and Greenwich, Ipswich. The area in London has a population of 30,578 and its borough has 287,942 while the CT town has 62,396 though its more of a distinct settlement than the London one. Views1 show that the area of London has 14,103, its borough 3,139 and university 5,437 but the CT town has 13,573 and its high school 4,138 however its common usage for US cities to include the state as noted at WP:USPLACE so this may make the London one far more likely than it but probably not especially given the number of other uses. Crouch, Swale (talk) 20:57, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Maldon, Essex → Maldon – I realize I filed another RM 2 and a half years ago that didn't get much input and got a valid point about the one in Victoria being "historic" meaning this one doesn't quite reach the bar however I actually think that given the battle (and the poem) that the Essex town is actually primary by the 2nd criteria. As can be seen the DAB page only list 32 other topics that aren't directly associated with the town and as noted 2 of these (the 2 places in Australia) are named after this one. The song has a diacritic (though per WP:SMALLDETAILS that probably doesn't distinguish) and probably lacks long-term significance. Google only returns the Essex one (though that's probably partly due to my location) Images also only returns the Essex one (which is probably less biased since although the main Google mainly returns the bank and West Yorkshire town for Halifax, Images returns many results for the one in Canada) and Books only returns the Essex one which again I think is less biased than the main Google (again Halifax in Books doesn't return any results for the bank and returns several results not for the West Yorkshire town). As noted the Essex one has a population of around 22,032 (town) and 64,926 (district) while the 2 in Australia only have 1,278 (according to City Population and Australian Bureau of Statistics for the NSW one). Also note that although I don't support preemptive disambiguation of Australian places its often argued that its common usage to include the state while although people identify Maldon being in Essex its not treated as common usage but solely disambiguation. The other topics associated with the town (such as the district and constituency) fall under WP:DABCONCEPT as they are sub topics of it. Crouch, Swale (talk) 20:25, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Aston (disambiguation) → Aston – No clear primary topic over the large number of alternatives, there are some 66 entries (excluding the 10 for Birmingham related topics). Aston Martin gets nearly 10x (36,878) the views of the suburb (5,289) although the suburb's football club gets 82,3283 which probably partly counts for DABCONCEPT. Although Google returns mainly the suburb (or at least things associated with it) Images only returns the car and Books doesn't return anything for the suburb but the car and other uses are there. - (Discuss) – Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Fully professional leagues → Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Preferred leagues – Recent comment at the talk page has made it clear that this list contains leagues which are/were not 'fully professional', making the current title a farce and a deception. (But the story was) I, as K-pop fan, was traumatized to FNC Entertainment about d.o.b (Dance or Band), a survival show which was competition between boy band with and without musical instruments in 2016. Like the music video of Project Pop's "Boy Band", in first 30 seconds, I saw there was the group with musical instrument, but the manager said
"I'm not looking for a band, but BOY BAND!"
, and finally the other group (instead of Project Pop) that became a boy band, which was the group WITHOUT musical instruments, came to the manager's room. -St3095 (?) 14:03, 21 February 2021 (UTC)- 24K (band) → 24K (group)
- (Discuss) – Strider II → Strider II (1990 video game) – There is a problem with the naming of these articles; the fact that Strider II is also sometimes called Strider 2 in sources, including its MobyGames page and various reviews. - (Discuss) – King of Sannan → Nanzan – User:Nanshu has rewritten the article "Nanzan" [6] and move it to "King of Sannan" [7] without discussion. His rewrite is valuable, but it not a good idea to do like this. "Nanzan" is not equal to the "King of Nanzan (or Sannan)". "Nanzan" is also nominal fu of Ryukyu Kingdom (See above), it worth having an article here. I think it's better to revert to this version oldid=1004206774, and split his version into an article "King of Sannan". El caballero de los Leones (talk) 04:49, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – New Mexico Campaign → New Mexico campaign – In sentence context, sources say "New Mexico campaign" in most cases. There's no reason to elevate campaign as is part of a proper name. Capped uses in sources are mostly in references to book and article titles such as Hall's Sibley's New Mexico Campaign; that same phrase in a sentence is not capped. - (Discuss) – Agro Nocerino Sarnese → Agro nocerino-sarnese – As I explained before, this name is not in English, it's in Italian, hence it must follow Italian linguistic rules: adjectives in the names of Italian geographical regions are not capitalised, and there is always a dash between two of them (cf. - (Discuss) – King of Sanhoku → Hokuzan – In fact, User:Nanshu totally rewrite the article Hokuzan and move it to King of Sanhoku without discussion[8], not me. I just reverted it to the old version [9], and split his version into a new article: Hokuzan Seishu. Hokuzan is NOT EQUAL to King of Hokuzan/Sanhoku. Two entirely different concepts. In his opinion "Sanhoku is primarily a royal title", but actually many historians regard it as a "country" (see Talk page for details). In Japanese Wikipedia there are two different articles: ja:北山王国 for Hokuzan, ja:北山世主 for the Lord of Hokuzan. Though his rewrite is valuable, but this action disrespects other people's contributions prior to him. I think it's better to split his edition into a new article "King of Sanhoku", then move this article back to Hokuzan and revert it prior to his edition. - (Discuss) – LenovoEMC → Iomega – Now that neither the company nor its products remain in existence, the name of the article should be the one the company was most known by. And that is Iomega, used from 1980 to 2013 including the popular Iomega Zip drive. The LenovoEMC name was only used from 2013 to 2018 during the tail end of the company's existence. As evidence for which name is better known, raw web search hits for Iomega outnumber those for LenovoEMC by ten to one. It would be nice if WP:NCCORP covered this kind of situation, but it does not, so I think general article titling considerations should apply. Wasted Time R (talk) 14:31, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Roman Catholic Diocese of Achonry → Catholic Diocese of Achonry – There is an old debate on whether to use Catholic or Roman Catholic, including a failed RfC. The lack of consensus does give flexibility, and while there is an argument then for keeping the status quo in a disputed name, I would argue that using the titles Catholic Diocese fulfils the WP:CRITERIA: *Recognisability: I can't imagine somoeone at Catholic Diocese of Achonry would be surprised with the content proposed to be moved there. *Naturalness: readers are reasonably likely to search for a given Catholic Diocese. If they do add in Roman Catholic, the redirects will still be there. *Precision: This does not mean that the Church of Ireland is not a catholic church in the wider sense of the word, but I don't think there's any ambiguity using Catholic Diocese as the page title in these cases. *Conciseness: The title is no longer than necessary to identify the article's subject and distinguish it from other subjects. We don't use Catholic in its page titles for COI, e.g. Diocese of Armagh (Church of Ireland), so adding Roman isn't necessary for concisness. *Consistency: It is consistent with titles such List of Catholic dioceses in Ireland, Catholic Church in Ireland and List of Catholic dioceses (structured view). - (Discuss) – Northern Trains → Northern (Operator of Last Resort) – The current naming scheme makes little sense and could cause confusion. "Northern Trains" could very easily be confused with "Northern Rail", and "Arriva Rail North" could easily be confused with "Arriva Trains Northern" while also not making it obvious that the branding used was in fact "Northern" for both. Not to mention the fact that the "Trains" and "Arriva Rail" bits are not helpful to the average user in finding the articles because they have rarely if ever appeared prominently on public-facing materials. I therefore propose that all three of the TOCs which have called themself "Northern" should be named in the format of "Brand name (Parent Company)" - the companies' official legal names can be provided at the start of the article (i.e. Northern Trains Limited, trading as Northern. Analogous to other father / son disambiguation pages, such as Lon Chaney, Douglas Fairbanks, Noah Beery, Ross Bagdasarian or Perry Botkin. - (Discuss) – 1860 Mount Lebanon civil war → ? – There were two previous discussions, 1st and 2nd, whose participants were limited to @George Al-Shami:, @FunkMonk:, @Elias Ziade: and myself regarding the name of this article. After all of this time, I would like to revisit the issue. I originally advocated that the article's name be centered around Mount Lebanon as it was the original epicenter and terminus of the conflict and that two separate articles be created for the 1860 events in Mount Lebanon and Damascus, respectively. I am now much closer to the view that because the events in Mount Lebanon and Damascus were so directly tied together that it would be appropriate, even necessary, to modify the current name to "1860 civil conflict in Mount Lebanon and Damascus" or "1860 civil conflict in Ottoman Syria", or close variations of either. In this case, "civil conflict" cannot be replaced by "civil war", as the latter term is only relevant to the actual war between mainly the Druze on one side and the Maronites and other Christians on the other in Mount Lebanon rather than the massacre in Damascus and the more limited incidents elsewhere in Syria. Also, no source I am aware of uses "civil war" to describe events in Damascus, with some limiting their usage of the term to Mount Lebanon and its environs. If we decide to rename the article to properly incorporate Damascus, I would then merge the non-redundant parts of my draft on the Damascus massacre here. If the article becomes too large, this could of course be solved by having three sub-articles devoted to the Druze–Christian strife in Mount Lebanon, the massacre in Damascus, and the French-led international intervention, with this article remaining the parent article, but this could be for a later discussion. I invite the original participants pinged above to weigh in once more, and invite anyone else who is interested to offer their opinions. Al Ameer (talk) 17:14, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Andrew Cuomo's response to nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic → 2021 New York nursing home scandal – This current title is unwieldy, POV-pushing, and does not capture the full breadth of this incident, which as the article itself notes is tied not just to Cuomo himself but rather to members of his administration, like Melissa Derosa. I initially proposed this title in the currently ongoing deletion discussion and was met with some initial support, so I've started a formal move request. The year is necessary to distinguish this event from the various other nursing home scandals New York has had, including the one of the 1970s that Bernard Bergman was involved in and journalist John L. The proposed name has been the official name of the island since 2002, before which the name was an earlier convention of dual name (Gannet Island (Karewa), with the Māori name in brackets instead of separated by a slash as it is currently). Every source cited by this article has either the current name of Karewa / Gannet Island or the earlier form of Gannet Island (Karewa), as does the official NZ Geographic board gazetteer of place names. The proposed name is also consistent with WP:NZNC guidelines for dual place names and aligns with the dozens of articles about New Zealand geographic features which have dual place names, including Aoraki / Mount Cook, Whakaari / White Island and Lake Ellesmere / Te Waihora. It is also consistent with multiple move requests which I have made for dual place names in the past, which were passed with unanimous support (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6), which establish a precedent for the move and are why I initially made the move as an uncontroversial proposal in line with the instructions in Wikipedia:Requested moves#Undiscussed moves. - (Discuss) – AD 911 → 911 AD – From a google search and google trends, it seems like generally the spellings of the AD before the year and after the year are about equally common- 43,800 results for "AD 911" versus 41,800 results for "911 AD" - and thus when places taking their guidance from wikipedia are excluded, having the AD second is likely more popular. In addition, having the "AD" second and the year first is a more natural spelling given people are likely to think of a year as simply being the number, with AD being used just to distinguish it from other things. - (Discuss) – Before Midnight → Before Midnight (disambiguation) – Pageviews analysis shows that the 2013 film far exceeds the other two topics (and the disambiguation page) as seen here. Note that the 2013 film was at Before Midnight (film) until Before Midnight (1925 film) got created. We could also just have both the 1925 film and the novel linked in a hatnote at the 2013 film's article. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 20:51, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Tu dors Nicole → You're Sleeping Nicole – Although I didn't fight the prior move from the English title back to the French title several years ago (mainly because I didn't know about it at all until after it was closed, and by the time I did find out it was clear that opinion was too mixed to get it reverted without a bigger fight than I was prepared to invest in at the time), I now feel it's time to revisit this.
Firstly, the idea that "You're Sleeping Nicole" was just an informational translation of the French title, and not an actual official English title per se, doesn't wash at all, as its own production company explicitly lists it as You're Sleeping Nicole on the English section of its own website — and lest anybody claim that that's still just a translation and not evidence of official title status, take a gander at how they fail to similarly "translate" Monsieur Lazhar and Incendies (both of which are films that very unequivocally went into English-language markets without altering their French-language original titles at all). Other than those two exceptions, right across the board the company's English directory of films uses the original language poster regardless of whether it's in English or French, but then invariably displays an English-language title when you hover over any particular poster and/or click on it to see the film's actual profile, and this film is no exception: the hover title is "You're Sleeping Nicole", not "Tu dors Nicole". And for every film in that list but this, our article about the film is at the hover title.
Secondly, while it's true that media and film festival usage was mixed and inconsistent when this film was new, we're now almost seven years removed from its status as a going theatrical concern — so home video services now have to be seen as a much more authoritative guide to what its expected title is for an anglophone audience than old film festival catalogues. And surveying those options, if you have your language defaults set to English then this film is You're Sleeping Nicole on AppleTV and iTunes, Kanopy, Google Play, the Cineplex Store, YouTube Movies and the Microsoft Store, and even Vudu goes with the double-barrelled Tu dors Nicole (You're Sleeping Nicole). It's also, for the record, listed as You're Sleeping Nicole on Rotten Tomatoes, and the five people left on the planet who still buy BluRay discs also get the double-barrelled You're Sleeping Nicole / Tu dors Nicole rather than just the French title alone. And while it's obviously true that you would see it as Tu dors Nicole on all of the same platforms if you set your language preference to French instead of English, that doesn't constitute evidence for what is or isn't the English title.
Finally, the idea that the original-language title should always take automatic precedence over any English alternative is not consistent with our rules for page titles — our rule is to look for the title most expected by an English language readership, not to privilege original titles as a first principle.
So for all of those reasons, I think it's quite clear that in a 2021 context, its English title is clearly You're Sleeping Nicole. That's the title that an English speaker is actually going to have to search for on streaming platforms if they expect to actually find it, so that's the title the article should have here. - (Discuss) – February 2021 North American ice storm → Winter Storm Shirley – We are in a rock in a hard place after Mother Nature has dealt us a crappy hand. The titles of most of the February articles are overly complex and unacceptable. The dates overlap for many storms and there are more drafts on the way for even more storms that overlap. The fact remains here that we have multiple titles that are ambiguous and even experienced editors have no clue which storm is which right now. Here is my proposal for how we handle the naming of future systems and the problem we have currently. While I don't endorse unofficial names, the titles are a mess and it may be the only possible solution to fixing the ambiguous title problem that currently plagues these three articles. The TWC names are being used by other unaffiliated news sites, however they should be our last resort since they are unofficial. We need the most recognizable and succinct name for our articles and the current titles aren't that. NoahTalk 16:12, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Epinephrine (medication) → Epinephrine – Per WP:NATURALDISAMBIGUATION and WP:COMMONNAME. We currently have two articles on this topic: one for the naturally occurring hormone titled Adrenaline and one for the same chemical substance used as a medication titled Epinephrine (medication). For context, there was a 2019 move discussion on whether to move Adrenaline to Epinephrine. The ultimate decision was to not move the article because a good case was made that the naturally occurring hormone is more commonly called "adrenaline". I think it is also the case that "epinephrine" is the more common name of the substance when used as a medication. It also happenes to be a very convenient way that we can disambiguate the two article titles without having to resort to using any parenthetical disambiguator. There are already hatnotes at the top of both articles that easily redirect to the other article. Rreagan007 (talk) 04:29, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
Related move requests (February 2019 also suggesting "ICC Cricket World Cup", July 2020 suggesting "ICC Men's Cricket World Cup") all supported keeping "Cricket World Cup". - (Discuss) – Sursee–Triengen railway → Sursee-Triengen-Bahn – This article is about the company first and the line second; the name of the company is Sursee-Triengen-Bahn AG and we shouldn't translate a proper name unless it's in common use in English. I think the current dash is also inappropriate; it's not part of the name and the German Wikipedia (for example) doesn't add one. However, for most of her life she has been known by her married name, Pat Pitney, and she has achieved new notability as the current University of Alaska system president under that name. Of the 16 post-2000 cited sources for the article, 13 of them refer to her only as Pat Pitney. The remaining three sources are mostly interested in her Olympian history: one calls her Pat Spurgin Pitney (Murray State Racers source), another calls her Pat Spurgin Pitney in the lede and Pitney throughout the article body (Anchorage Daily News source), and the third calls her Spurgin in the title, Pat Spurgin Pitney in the lede, and Pitney throughout the article body (Murray Ledger source). Relevant policy is WP:NAMECHANGES (reliable sources written after the name change routinely use the Pitney name) and WP:COMMONNAME (the Pitney name is the one that contemporary readers are likely to search for, because she is now primarily notable as the university president). :-Gscholar hits for "Polish-German declaration" - 90, GScholar hits for "German-Polish declaration" - 56, GScholar hits for "Polish-German Pact" - 36, Gscholar hits for "German-Polish pact" - 67. A review shows all these hits refer to the agreement of 1934. "Declaration" is the common name for the agreement. Importantly these are all sources discussing the agreement at some level of detail, and not just sources referring to a "German-Polish non-aggression pact" in passing. Notably also of the 15 references cited in the article all but Rothwell (which calls it a "friendship treaty") and "Poland's role in the Holocaust" (which calls it a "pact") calls it a "declaration". "Declaration" is clearly the name preferred by higher-quality sources. :-This is a rare case when the most reliable sources actually tell us that the present name is wrong - see especially p.1 here and the review here where it is included in a list of errors ("the declaration of non-aggression between Poland and Germany was not a treaty") :-The present name is a WP:POVNAME representing the view that this was a pact/alliance of sorts between Germany and Poland. The official title, in contrast, is more neutral. :-Accuracy. This is not just about this being the official name, but again that this agreement was not an alliance (a claim made for propaganda purposes in some places) and did not settle the border dispute. :-Consistency with the article - specifically it makes no sense to have a (necessary) section on why the Germans didn't want to call it a "pact" and then to refer to it as a "pact" in the title. :-WP:CRITERIA, specifically the proposed name is more precise and better disambiguates the agreement over certain Nazi-[Country] Non-Aggression Pacts. Most English-language sources refer to this as blacklists, blacklisting, blacklisted (applied to individuals, farms, villages, or raions). In their struggle against “malicious enemies” who were refusing to deliver their food supplies to the state, the party-Soviet organs of the USSR began to institute a system of “blacklists,” one of the Soviets’ most brutal repressive measures. ¶ The concept of blacklists and its very essence were formed gradually during all of 1932. On November 6 a decision passed by the CC CP(B)U announced the “goods blockade of raions that are not fulfilling the state grain delivery plan.” Included on this blacklist were eight raions in Dnipropetrovsk oblast’ . . . - (Discuss) – Formula One drivers from the United Kingdom → Formula One drivers who represented the United Kingdom – WP:PRECISE. The current titles do not match the scope. Consider one example of many, Alex Albon, he was born and raised in London, to all intents and purposes he is "from the United Kingdom". Yet he represented Thailand, and is therefore detailed in Formula One drivers from Thailand, despite not being from Thailand at all. Why don't we rename to "Nationlity Formula One drivers" (Swiss Formula One drivers, Austrian Formula One drivers etc.)? The problem is that this isn't completely accurate (although I would also support such a move). Drivers haven't always represented a nationality of thiers, for example Jochen Rindt competed as an Austrian, but never had Austrian cictizenship, and therefore isn't Austrian.
Interest (economics) is another option. Even if the emotion is less likely in an encyclopedia it still seems like it has enough long-term significance to displace the payment. By views the payment has 11,074 and the emotion has 1,533 but Sexual attraction has 33,781, Conflict of interest has 16,428, National interest has 4,694, Point of interest has 1,712 and Self-interest has 1,484. Although Google returns more results for the payment the 1st result is a dictionary infobox which gives the emotion first, Images only appears to return the payment but Books does appear to return the emotion as the 1st result even though the other results appear to be for the payment. - (Discuss) – Richthofen → Richthofen family – Per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC and WP:CONSISTENT, other notable noble families have their articles include a "family" at the end. In the meanwhile, Manfred von Richthofen is byfar the most well-known out of the Richthofens. I am requesting making "Richthofen" redirect to either the fighter pilot during World War I or keeping the redirect to here. Linking Pageviews, out of the Top 10 most viewed Richthofen articles, the Red Baron is by far the most viewed out of the bunch with about 2.8 million views dwarfing the 2nd place coming in at around 200K.[31] Basing also from Google Ngrams, the fighter pilot is also the most referenced since the end of World War I (his uncle was in the lead before the war but has since been passed). - (Discuss) – General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea → Leader of the Workers' Party of Korea – I argue moving this article to "Leader of the Workers' Party of Korea". It's not the correct formal name, but it clarifies the task of the article. I'm guessing that Kim Jong-un will get a new title at the next congress so it's not really the title that is important. It's the fact that he is the leader of the WPK and wants to inform everyone about it (it has propaganda significance more then it has institutional significance). I haven't read anywhere in North Korean media or other media that these name changes actually alter the North Korean decision-making process and culture in anyway. One can therefore reach the logical conclusion that moving the name of this article every fifth year or move does not improve Wikipedia coverage, it just increases Wikipedia's workload. This is not to say I'm against a formal title when it can be used; Vice Chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea and Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (lists general secretaries, first secretaries, second secretaries, third secretaries and ordinary secretaries for instance) could be interesting articles. --Ruling party (talk) 14:21, 3 February 2021 (UTC) —Relisting. - (Discuss) – Iraqi conflict (2003–present) → Iraqi conflict (2003–2017) – Is the “conflict” really still ongoing? 100k-1m died in the war from 2003-2011 and many battles and territorial offensives occurred, 15k died from the insurgency from 2011 until 2013 which involved clashes, attempts at land grabs, 150k+ died in the renewed territorial war from 2013 until 2017 which also involved battles and large scale offensives, but the insurgency after 2017 isn’t large scale enough to be considered a “conflict”, very limited attacks occur near kirkuk and in the western desert, and extremely rare attacks occurs in anywhere else such as the january 2018 and january 2021 baghdad bombings. No attempts of land grab, no ISIS territorial control of areas, very limited attacks, i think it’s safe to say the “conflict” has ended. Even some sources refer to post-2017 insurgency as “Post war”. The term 'ethnic cleansing' is frequently applied to describe the events in Abkhazia in general (see Internal displacement and the conflict in Abkhazia by Erin Mooney and multiple sources in Ethnic cleansing of Georgians in Abkhazia). Nonetheless, Mathglot had now decided that this was a "controversial move" and, contrary to WP:RMUM, has moved it back without discussion. Seems rather a waste of time, but hey... WP:CRITERIA sets out five criteria for naming a page. These include Precision, Conciseness and Consistency as well as Recognizability. The rationale for the move is obvious. The article's natural content is not limited to the "press" (eg newspapers) when the French resistance also produced a range of notable fictional publications (Le Silence de la mer being a particularly important one), posters, even radio broadcasts. It is for this reason that the head article is currently entitled Underground media in German-occupied Europe. —Brigade Piron (talk) 21:03, 1 February 2021 (UTC) —Relisting. While this article does discuss the original company, Chemins de Fer d'Aire à Fruges et de Rimeux-Gournay à Berck, in some depth, it's more properly about the line itself. The French article on this topic is called Ligne d'Aire-sur-la-Lys à Berck-Plage, which is a descriptive name for the line and not the company. The original company is acquired by a different company in 1919, decades before this line is abandoned. It is also common in citations and reviews of his works, and works that mention him, for example, Subtelny (1988), Ukraine: A History. It corresponds to the scientific transliteration of the Ukrainian name Володимир Кубійович. This is the correct spelling for the article title, per WP:COMMONNAME. The spelling Kubiiovych also appears in some academic and popular-academic works that have transliterated his name from Ukrainian per modified Library of Congress romanization, for example, Magocsi (1996), A History of Ukraine: The Land and its Peoples. This also coincides with the Ukrainian National system of romanization, and would be Wikipedia’s default spelling if no common name were determined, per WP:CYR and WP:UKR. The spelling Kubiyovych is according to the BGN/PCGN romanization 1965 standard, formerly used for geographical naming, and superseded by the Ukrainian National system. The spelling Kubiĭovych is according to strict ALA-LC Romanization, and appears in English-language library catalogues and bibliographies. Google Scholar results (per WP:GOOG, with quotation marks and excluding “Wikipedia”): Kubijovyč 311, Kubiiovych 99, Kubiyovych 69, Kubiĭovych 13. Google Books results, as above with English-language sources only: Kubijovyč 7,820, Kubiiovych 717, Kubiyovych 56, Kubiĭovych 28. - (Discuss) – Nuremberg Military Tribunals → Subsequent Nuremberg trials – This page was recently moved from the proposed title by Buidhe on WP:COMMONNAME grounds but I don't believe this to be correct. There are several points: * Naming an article which essentially deals with a series of trials after the court before which they were heard leads to obvious confusion about the actual subject of the article (this also has implications for the results of a NGRAMS search); * "Nuremberg Military Tribunals" leads to obvious confusion with the with the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg, currently addressed here under the title of "Nuremberg trials" * The overwhelming majority of links using the NMT terminology appear to be drawn from the legal scholarship and do not reflect the wider historical and political science scholarship which addresses the same subject. I also note that some variation of the subsequent title is used, among others, by the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, Wiener Holocaust Library Nuremberg Trials Museum and US State Department. There is also recent academic usage in legal and non-legal scholarship (cf 1, 2 etc.). —Brigade Piron (talk) 12:59, 28 January 2021 (UTC) —Relisting. Jack Frost (talk) 10:36, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Amnat Charoen → Amnat Charoen (town) – Proposing to rename Amnat Charoen to Amnat Charoen (town), then make Amnat Charoen a redirect to Amnat Charoen Province, which is more likely the primary topic, and likewise for the others. These are articles about Thai town municipalities (cities are excluded from this discussion, but may be approached at a later time) that are more or less the population centre of the province sharing the same name. In most cases, references to the plain name will be about the entire province rather than just the town. This is the case especially in Thai parlance, but also likely so in English, and Google searches on the above names reveal first-page results that are mostly about the provinces. (In most cases, the Wikipedia article about the province is the top result, while some towns don't even appear.) While these articles seem to have been stable at their current location for over a decade, the status quo is mostly a result of early editorial decisions made by a couple of users, including Ahoerstemeier, who made comments long ago that this doesn't actually reflect common practice in Thailand, and could be changed. A requested move last year for Trang, Thailand found that consensus didn't exist to support the current naming scheme. I'm thus suggesting that the towns be moved to titles with the (town) disambiguator, so that the plain names can be redirected to their respective provinces, which are more likely the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. - (Discuss) – Bhat Sikhs → Bhatra Sikhs – The heading title should be moved from "Bhat Sikhs" to "Bhatra Sikhs" per WP:COMMONNAME. It should not be moved to "Bhatra" because according to a number of books (searched at google books) and journals, "Bhatra" is the name of a non-Sikh social group/community of India. Studies on the non-Sikh "Bhatra" social group are published in many books and also in journals. This article is specifically about the social group "Bhatra Sikhs" who are a sub-group within the Sikhs, not a non-Sikh social group. So, moving the title to "Bhatra" would not be an encyclopedic act. I also suggest that "Bhat Sikhs" should not be deleted but kept as a redirect to "Bhatra Sikhs" because this article is about the bards who became Sikhs and bards are generically known as "Bhats" in India. - (Discuss) – Vaccinium vitis-idaea → Lingonberry – Google Ngrams shows a sharp and steady increase in the popularity of the term "lingonberry" in the past few decades, to the point where it is now more common than any other term by an order of magnitude. This also holds separately for both American English and British English. "Cowberry" used to be more popular until the early 1980s in American English, and until the turn of the century in British English, but since then the divergence has been very sharp. Other dialects of English are unlikely to change the picture because the plant is native to North America and Eurasia and is largely consumed only there. Regardless of whether the trend was caused by IKEA marketing or any other cause, "lingonberry" is now fairly clearly the WP:COMMON_NAME. - (Discuss) – Francis de Laporte de Castelnau → François-Louis Laporte, comte de Castelnau – Attempting to follow guidelines at WP:NCNOB, though I'm honestly not sure about the best title to use. I originally sought for help on this at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Biography#Francis de Laporte de Castelnau but got no reply in nearly two weeks, so I thought it best to just WP:BOLD and rename the page anyway. The full name for this person is generally given as "François Louis Nompar de Caumont Laporte" (or is it "de Laporte"?); his original name at birth was "François-Louis Nompar de Caumont La Force", but the surname was changed to "Laporte" later on. He also used the title "Comte de Castelnau", which comes from his connections to nobility. Most online information I've found on him gives his first name as "François" not "Francis", which was apparently joined together with his second name as "François-Louis". For the most part here, I've referred to information from a Zootaxa article by Neal Evenhuis from 2012 (see here), which gives his correct birth date and original name at birth. It's worth noting that in 2010, this article was moved by LouisPhilippeCharles (who was later banned that year) from its old title "François Louis de la Porte, comte de Castelnau" to its current title. I cannot make sense of why this previous move was done, unless it was to copy the other language Wikipedias (even French WP uses the same title as the English one currently??), though in retrospect "de la" doesn't seem to be part of his full name at all. - (Discuss) – Moi (footballer) → Moi (footballer, born 1994) – WP:COMMONNAME of former footballer is just "Moi", no WP:PRIMARYTOPIC so should be disambiguated further and Moi (footballer) should redirect to DAB at Moi. The latter footballer is exclusively known as "Moisés". Disambiguate to standard at WP:NCSP. Almost all references on respective pages confirm these as most used names for the footballers. - (Discuss) – Infante Henrique, Duke of Coimbra → Henrique de Bragança – Per common name. Both of the accessible sources call him "Henrique de Bragança", and this is the commonest name for him in google searches (e.g. [34]). There are no reliable sources at all for "Infante Henrique, Duke of Coimbra". The only reliable sources for "Infante Henrique" or "duke of Coimbra" in Google searches all refer to other people. - (Discuss) – Eduardo Rodríguez (judge) → Eduardo Rodríguez Veltzé – Using both paternal and maternal last name is more appropriate than the (politician) specification. Krisgabwoosh (talk) 00:40, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – WeatherTech SportsCar Championship → IMSA SportsCar Championship – The full name of the series is IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, so it would make sense to remove the sponsor from the page title to make it consistent with other championships such as IndyCar Series and NASCAR Cup Series which do not have sponsors. I also think that the WP:COMMONNAME is IMSA because most people and sources (which are not obliged to mention sponsors) such as this, this, this and this refer to it as such. Also, if the sponsor changes this page would not need to be moved again. Carfan568 (talk) 16:40, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Hyoscine → Scopolamine – "Scopolamine" is the preferred name of the substance internationally, including in the USA, German-speaking world, French-speaking world, and Spanish-speaking world. Here is some relevant context: 'Alkaloid nomenclature was often the subject of heated and confusing debate, and a particular instance is relevant to the present discussion. "Hyoscine" - first prepared by Albert Ladenburg in 1880 - and "scopolamine" - first isolated by Ernst Schmidt from Scopola species in 1888 [...] - are synonyms, but a colourful controversy regarding their identity raged, especially in Germany, from their discovery until the early twentieth century. Both names continued to be used for many decades, the choice often seemingly dependent on the nationality of the writer, and by the mid-1920s, the name "hyoscine" had largely been abandoned except in England and associated countries [not including the USA].' - (Discuss) – Turkish courts-martial of 1919–1920 → Istanbul trials of 1919–1920 – The name "Turkish" is misleading, the trials were held by the rump Ottoman Empire and rejected by the Turkish nationalist movement, ending before the establishment of the Republic of Turkey in 1923. - (Discuss) – Muslim Students Federation - MSF → Muslim Students Federation – The abbreviation shouldn't be part of the article name; the target is currently a redirect to a different organisation, the All India Muslim Students Federation Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 14:20, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Price tag policy → Price tag attack – Price tag attacks are violent attacks carried out by Jewish extremists against Palestinians or Palestinian property. It's not about any "policy" per se. "price tag attack" is the WP:COMMONNAME with 163k hits vs. 86k hits for "price tag policy". ImTheIP (talk) 20:42, 25 December 2020 (UTC) —Relisting.
