Requests for permissions |
---|
This page enables administrators to handle requests for permissions on the English Wikipedia. Administrators are able to modify account creator, autopatrolled, confirmed, file mover, extended confirmed, mass message sender, new page reviewer, page mover, pending changes reviewer, rollback, template editor rights and AutoWikiBrowser access. Editors wishing to request a permission flag here should do so following the procedure below. Editors requesting permissions are advised to periodically revisit the requests page, as notifications will not always be given after a decision is made. Editors should not expect their request to be answered right away and should remember to be patient when filing a request. To find out what permissions your account has, go to Special:Preferences, where your permissions are listed in the user profile tab under "Member of groups". Requests for permissions are archived regularly; please see Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Archive for an index of past requests. |

User groups
- Account creator ( • view requests): The account creator flag is granted to users who are active in the request an account process. The flag removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24 hour period. It also allows users to make accounts with names similar to other accounts. The account creator flag is only given to users who participate in the ACC process and may be removed without notice should a user's participation in the account creation process cease.
- Autopatrolled ( • view requests): The autopatrolled flag is granted to users who are active in the creation of new articles. This tool is granted so their creations are auto patrolled in Special:NewPages. Unlike other requests, any user may nominate an editor for Autopatrolled, even without that user's consent. A user who wishes to have this flag generally should have created at least 25 articles and must be trusted, experienced, and must have demonstrated they are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, especially WP:BLP and Wikipedia:Notability.
- AutoWikiBrowser ( • view requests): AutoWikiBrowser is a semi-automated MediaWiki editor for Microsoft Windows, designed to make tedious repetitive tasks quicker and easier. It is essentially a browser that automatically opens up a new page when the last is saved. When set to do so, it suggests some changes (typically formatting) that are generally meant to be incidental to the main change. Please read the quick guide on the main page before requesting permission. This is not a true user right, but access needs to be granted by administrators just like other permissions. If approved, your name will be added to the CheckPage. Users with under 250 non-automated mainspace edits or 500 total mainspace edits are rarely approved. You will need to give a reason for wanting AWB access.
- Confirmed ( • view requests): The confirmed flag may be granted to new users who have not yet hit the threshold for autoconfirmed status. These are users who have not had both 10 edits and 4 days experience. People with this flag can upload files and edit semi-protected pages before hitting the autoconfirmed flag. Users requesting this flag must indicate clearly why they should be exempted from the customary confirmation period.
- Event coordinator ( • view requests): The event coordinator user right allows editors to create multiple new accounts, and to temporarily confirm accounts so that they can create new articles.
- Extended confirmed ( • view requests): The extended confirmed flag is normally automatically added to accounts after 500 edits and 30 days, but may be added to legitimate alternate accounts of users that already have this access. The flag allows users to edit pages under extended confirmed protection.
- File mover ( • view requests): The file mover user right is intended to allow users experienced in working with files to rename them, subject to policy, with the ease that autoconfirmed users already enjoy when renaming Wikipedia articles.
- Mass message sender ( • view requests): Mass message sender enables users to send messages to multiple users at once. This flag is given to users who have had made requests for delivery in the past, clearly showing an understanding of the guidance for use.
- New page reviewer ( • view requests): The new page reviewer user right allows users to mark pages as patrolled and use the page curation toolbar. At administrators' discretion, the right may be accorded on a time limited basis or indefinite.
- Page mover ( • view requests): The page mover user right allows users experienced in working with article names to move them, subject to policy, without leaving behind a redirect. They may also move all subpages when moving the parent page(s). General guidelines include making 3,000 edits and 6 months of editing history. At administrators' discretion, the right may be accorded on a time limited basis or indefinite.
- Pending changes reviewer ( • view requests): The reviewer flag is granted to users who are experienced enough with Wikipedia editing and its policies for contributing to the process of reviewing articles placed under pending changes. There is no set number of edits that must be done, but a general rule of thumb is that a user is Extended confirmed. However, a user must be Confirmed or auto-confirmed user to add requests to the page.
- Rollback ( • view requests): Rollback enables users to remove vandalism much more quickly and efficiently than by undoing it. Users who do not demonstrate an understanding of what constitutes capable vandalism fighting, either because they have no or little history of doing so, or show a poor ability to discern between good and bad faith edits will not be granted this right. Also, it is unlikely that editors with under 200 mainspace edits will have their request granted. For a more detailed explanation of rollback and information about when it is appropriate to use the tool, see Wikipedia:Rollback. For information about the technical details of the feature, see here.
- Template editor ( • view requests): The template editor flag allows users to edit protected templates and Lua modules. General guidelines for granting include making at least 1,000 edits overall (with at least 150 to templates or modules), being a registered user for over a year, and having a record of successfully proposing significant edits to several protected templates. Users should demonstrate proficiency with template syntax and an understanding of the need for caution when editing heavily-used templates.
Handled elsewhere
Several permissions are requested and handled elsewhere:
- Administrator and bureaucrat access: Requests for administrator or bureaucrat access need to be posted at requests for adminship and requests for bureaucratship, respectively.
- Bots: Request for bot flags should be made at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval.
- Edit filter: Requests for access to the edit filter manager group and the edit filter helper group should be made at Wikipedia:Edit filter noticeboard.
- Interface administrator: Requests for interface administrator access should be made at Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard. Only current administrators may become interface administrators.
- IP-block-exempt: While the IP-block-exempt right can be granted by administrators, this flag is not handled here. Requests for the IP-block exempt right should be submitted via the Unblock Ticket Request System or, if there are significant privacy concerns, email the checkuser team at checkuser-en-wp
wikipedia.org or contact a CheckUser directly.
- Checkuser and Oversight: These rights are only granted by the Arbitration Committee, and only after strict scrutiny. More information can be found here.
- AfC reviewer: This access is granted by administrators at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Articles for creation/Participants.
- Redirect patrol whitelist: Addition to the whitelist is granted by administrators at Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Redirect whitelist.
Removal of permissions
If you wish to have any of your permission flags (except administrator) removed, you should contact an administrator. If you want your administrator flag removed, you should contact a bureaucrat.
This is not the place to request review of another user's rights. If you believe someone's actions merit removal of a permission flag, you should raise your concern at the incidents noticeboard.
The bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight flags are removed at meta:Steward requests/Permissions. Stewards will typically not carry out such requests unless they are made on behalf of the Arbitration Committee, by a user who is requesting their own access be removed, or in cases of an emergency.
Process
Requestors
To make a request for a permission, click "add request" next to the appropriate header and fill in the reason for wanting permission.
Any editor may comment on requests for permission.
Administrators
Administrators are permitted to grant account creator, autopatrolled, confirmed, event coordinator, file mover, mass message sender, pending changes reviewer, rollback and template editor flags to any user who meets the criteria explained above and can be trusted not to abuse the tool(s). Administrators may either grant these permissions permanently or temporarily. For convenience, a bot will automatically comment with relevant data if the user does not meet configurable qualifications. Even if the bot does not comment, administrators should review the user's contributions and logs to ensure the tools will be used appropriately and check for any indication of potential misuse.
Once an administrator has granted a permission or decided to deny a request, they should add {{done}} or {{not done}} respectively under the request with their comments. If a user already has the requested permission, or is autoconfirmed and requesting confirmed, {{already done}} should be used. N hours after the last comment was made (as specified by the config), the request will be archived automatically: approved requests will be placed here; declined requests will go here. See User:MusikBot/PermClerk#Archiving for more information on archiving functionality.

[sigh...] I'm requesting this as I'm long-time trustworthy editor that doesn't want to lose the right to be able to see the "[Mark this page as patrolled]" link, as I occasionally "manually" patrol new pages in the course of my editing. Let me be clear – I have no intention of becoming a New Page Patrol "regular" (I do sometimes check the New Pages list, but not very often...), nor do I intend to use Page Curation. But we shouldn't be removing the ability to "spot-check" new articles from long-time regular editors, esp. those of us who occasionally come across new articles as part of our work for various WikiProjects (e.g. I sometimes come across new articles as part of WP:TV or WP:FILMBIO or even WP:TRAINS editing...). Anyway, I meet the qualification criteria, and I understand the "[Mark this page as patrolled]" link will soon be disappearing for the rest of us, so I'll go ahead and request this now. --Vivek ji123 09:46, 06 November 2020 (UTC) —Preceding incorrectly dated comment added 04:30, 6 March 2020 (UTC)
Not done Sorry, your track record of article creation and lack of participation in deletion discussions do not suggest that you are sufficiently familiar with notability guidelines to receive the new page reviewer permission at this time. - As a new page reviewer I find some articles that would be best suited for draft space. I request the permission to be able to do the move without leaving the redirect and having to request its deletion. I do have extensive experience with moves w/o redirect as an admin in eswiki. Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 17:42, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
- There's not much to go on as far as evidence on the English Wikipedia, but since it's one of your most recent moves here, can you explain your reasoning behind this move? (Edit summary: "To distinguish from the deleted article with the same name about the mythological being"). And maybe also this since the page started out at Catalonia's declaration of independence, you moved it to Declaration from the representatives of Catalonia, and it's now at Catalan declaration of independence? Best, Dekimasuよ! 06:06, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
- The reason for the first move was to disambiguate what was at that time an upcoming movie with the mythological being. An article under that title about the mythological being had been previously deleted at AfD (please see Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Odiyan)
- This move was done on 16 October 2017. At that time there was no declaration of independence. A document titled Declaration from the representatives of Catalonia was signed by some MPs (those in favor of independence) outside the parliament. You can check in the article itself that that is the title of the document signed. So at that time there was no declaration of independence. The title was wrong and had to be corrected. A few days later, on 27 October 2017, a resolution based on the "Declaration of the representatives of Catalonia" declaring the independence of Catalonia was voted in the Parliament and was approved (see here). After my edit on that same day, the article title could be changed and the page was moved to Declaration of Independence of Catalonia. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 08:04, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks. The second explanation makes sense to me, but the first one still indicates possible problems. Wikipedia:Disambiguation states that "disambiguation is required whenever, for a given word or phrase on which a reader might search, there is more than one existing Wikipedia article to which that word or phrase might be expected to lead." In this case, the other topic was not only not an article, but had already been deleted. Recreation of the article on the mythological being is always a possibility, but we generally do not disambiguate article titles based upon the chance that another article will be created in the future. This is a good indication of why the film's article is now back at Odiyan. I was hoping that you would point this out in your reply. Dekimasuよ! 08:49, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you Dekimasu, I do understand and agree with that criteria. At the time of the move, I wanted to differentiate with the mythological being, also because I was about to nominate the article for AfD per WP:CBALL and WP:TOOSOON since the article was about a future event, had no references (please see here) and because in my initial search per WP:BEFORE I could not find enough coverage by independent reliable sources to justify inclusion. I wanted to avoid the confusion of having to list the article as a second nomination since the subjects were different, perhaps that was also not necessary but seemed reasonable at the time. Shortly after, sources were found with sufficient coverage to meet WP:GNG, so I withdrew the AfD as nominator. At that time it did not occur to me to move the article back since my focus then shifted towards improving the article by adding those newly found reliable sources. I do understand that moving it back then would have been a good idea. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 11:16, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
- In case you need more elements for evaluation, please feel free to check this list of page moves (which include many examples of moves without leaving a redirect) at eswiki. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 13:42, 27 February 2020 (UTC)

- Mainly because I notice this request is expiring/coming up for review in two days, I thought I would comment on the move log; it looks like about half of the draftifications have been reverted (via histmerge). This, to me, implies that either a) the draftifications shouldn't have happened, b) there should have been better communication with the creator, or c) or the histmerges should not have happened. Given that the merged articles are not at AFD it means (c) is not the issue, which makes me question if the draftifications were appropriate. I don't know if this would invalidate an extension of PGM, but it definitely makes me pause. Primefac (talk) 14:22, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- Please check the state of the articles when they were sent to draft. All were unsourced except for one that had been edited directly by the subject and was mostly original research. In many cases they have been improved there as intended, all authors were notified, but some recreated the articles in mainspace and improved them there. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 18:04, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
- In all of them I followed this advice: "Move to draft: NPR is triage, it is not a clean up clinic. This move feature is not limited to bios so you may have to slightly re-edit the text in the template before you save the move. Anything that is not fit for mainspace but which might have some promise can be draftified - particularly very poor English and machine and other low quality translations." --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 20:14, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hello @Primefac: To further clarify: Also from WP:NPPDRAFT: "A newly-created article may be about a generally acceptable topic, but be far from sufficiently developed or sourced for publication. Such pages can be moved to the draft namespace manually. An explanatory note and link to the draft should be left on the article creator's talk page. The resulting redirect should be suppressed if you have the page mover user right, or tagged for deletion with CSD R2. The MoveToDraft script is a useful tool for automating this process." option d) is that the author of the article moved to draft and notified to improve it by adding references there, recreates it in main space and improves it there rather than following AfC. At that point there is no mechanism for enforcing the AfC process as A10 applies only to article space. Once the article is improved and sourced, histmerge is performed to keep the whole history as the recreated article was a copy of the original article moved to draft. The merged copies should not be taken to AfD because I draftify articles that seem to fit our inclusion criteria, but at the time of the move failed WP:V or other major policy. If the subject of an article does not seem fit for inclusion, I usually use one of the deletion options (including AfD) instead of sending them to draft. Regards. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 20:06, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
- Request If there are no issues with my moves to draft, I request for the extension of the permission. Regards. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 14:40, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

- Requesting for PM due to some draft space and moving page without leaving of redirects and like this Mohammed Adamu and Abubakar Adamu Mohammed are the same page, but I don't have the permission to move the article into one page. Respect (F5pillar 13:43, 29 March 2020 (UTC)

- Was authorized for 3 months in January in order to conduct swaps where necessary for call sign articles in broadcasting. Using pageswap I have conducted four such moves (involving WHAV-LP, KNSH, WAYS (AM) and WKVB (FM)) in the first 3 months I have had this permission. Raymie (t • c) 17:43, 6 April 2020 (UTC)

- Be careful with her. There is no discussion whatsoever and are many pages being marked for speedy deletion which do not qualify. KittenKlub (talk) 10:19, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
Done CSD tagging is not relevant but I will follow up on that incident. ~Swarm~ {sting} 17:04, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
- I think it is relevant, because you are giving people special powers. There were several other pages which weren't CSD. There is also warning from an administrator that many over her CSDs were overturned, yet all you see is immediate pasting of CSD and often when that fails AFDs. Even more worrying that discussions were being ignored with "I'm not going to argue that with you." You've pasted it, so you should argue. KittenKlub (talk) 17:42, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
- I had previously marked his article for a Speedy deletion because it does not pass WP:N WP:NSOLDIER, but the admins denied it because it falls under WP:BLP1E and asked me to take it to AFD or to merge it. And I just had a look now; someone has already suggested the article for a merger with 2020 coronavirus pandemic in Suriname. I understand your upset. But that's my job to keep Wikipedia safe and clean. I have communicated all my actions to the admins over IRC before taking any steps. If you feel that I have made a mistake, then please let me know on my talk page so that I can improvise and avoid it in the future. But I don't see anything wrong for now :) - Tatupiplu'talk 18:14, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
- I've made plenty of replies, but while I had to wait hours, I looked at your history and have reasons for concern. I think you are likely to abuse power and game to system which is very serious. KittenKlub (talk) 18:21, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
- I usually mark articles for CSD and AFD and is done after a discussion with the admins on IRC. I don't mark pages that qualify to be on Wikipedia. Only the ones that do not. I think I have made my point. If you need to point anything, feel free to send me a message on my talk page. Thank you :) - Tatupiplu'talk 18:27, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
- You are not the DECIDER. And that's the problem. Once again I see no discussion on the merge either, so you are basically just frustrating people until they leave! KittenKlub (talk) 18:34, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
- @KittenKlub: I left her a message explaining why she was in the wrong there, and she said she understands. Looks like it was just a mistake. ~Swarm~ {sting} 19:10, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

- I have been editing in wikipedia for 15 months. Basically I'm a reverter. I revert vandalizing edits. I have been using twinkle. But it is available only in desktop mode. If I become roll backer, I will definitely feel easier to fight against vandalism. Hence I request admins to promote me to a roll backer. Thank you.

- I would like to have rollback rights, in part to help me protected [[List of UFC records] where an edit war was being held by a now blocked user.
Having been on Wikipedia for years and having over a thousand edits, I hope you'll grant my request.

Not done. Please see the notice at the top of this page. This is not what Rollback is for. Take a moment to read Wikipedia:Rollback and if that's what you would like to do, you can then check out the Counter Vandalism Unit to learn more. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 09:00, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
