Re: [Ticket#2019031810001264]
I am trying to get an answer to a question about rights to pictures. Here is the ticket number for the email communication I have had. Re: [Ticket#2019031810001264] If Mr. Billy Alsbrooks (man in picture) sent an email himself as owner of the pictures would that be sufficient enough to get his page approved? If so where does he send the email? I have not received a response in a while so thought maybe I could try here. Thank you for any help you can give me.Thomas Dawn (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 03:35, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Thomas Dawn: The copyright for a picture belongs to the photographer, not the subject of the picture, so unless it was a selfie, such a statement will not suffice. Sorry, we don't write these silly laws, we just try to comply with them. How did you become the owner of (this copy of) this picture? Did you take the picture? If so, you own the copyright and you may license to us yourself. Otherwise, ask the photographer to licence it to us. This becomes an unholy mess if the photographer is deceased. -Arch dude (talk) 03:46, 10 April 2019 (UTC)

Multiple issue problem
I have improve this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rashid_Askari. But its still showing ""This article has multiple issues. Please help improve it or discuss these issues on the talk page. (Learn how and when to remove these template messages) No issues specified. Please specify issues, or remove this template."""
I have added link, source.
How I can remove above message??
Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mehedi-iu (talk • contribs) 06:49, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
- Mehedi-iu Thank you for your work on the article about Rashid Askari. Since you had already removed the "cleanup tags" from within the
{{Multiple issues}}
banner, it no longer had any content so I have removed it. In my opinion you were right to remove these tags, which were placed in October 2013 when the article was new and looked like this. It has been greatly improved since then. - Any editor is entitled to remove cleanup tags if they or someone else has made the improvements called for, although they should be prepared to justify their action if questioned: Bhunacat10 (talk), 07:08, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
Potential copyvio at Be Careful What You Wish For (Archer novel)
I'm pretty sure that a lot of the plot for Be Careful What You Wish For may well be a copyvio - certainly there are more than passing similarities to the summary on Audible[1], which I presume came form an official source of some kind.
At what point does text cease to be valid and become a copyvio? Chaheel Riens (talk) 11:16, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
- The relevant supplements should be WP:CLOP and WP:PLOTONLY. I can't see the audible link (geo-locked?), but it seems there is significant duplication of summaries from e.g., Amazon, and such a lengthy plot summary is kinda not that great anyway. I've listed the article at WP:COPYPROB and reverted the summary to a 2014 version. Alpha3031 (t • c) 13:34, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks. I saw it just as I was heading out for the day, and knew I would ruminate upon it. It came up as a recommended listen on my Audible list, which is why I checked it out on Wiki, and as I'm in the UK I guess it will only allow UK netizens to see it. Photo deletion
I uploaded a new/more recent photo to an article about a person and it was removed. Why? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ometzger71 (talk • contribs) 16:06, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
- Are you referring to the Keir Simmons article? Although you haven't added any images to the article, it appears that KEIR_HEADSHOT.jpg has been deleted for being a copyright violation - did you upload that? If so, then the reason is clear by the deletion: It's been judged non-free and a copyright issue. Also, in this edit you removed what seems to be a valid image, so I've undone it. If you feel differently, it's probably better to take it up on the Keir Simmons Talk page rather than here. Chaheel Riens (talk) 16:39, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Ometzger71: Your account has never uploaded an image. What are you referring to? PrimeHunter (talk) 16:40, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
Yes i'm referring to the Keir Simmons page. It is the photo from his Facebook, additionally I have written permission from Keir himself to use the photo. How do I remedy this and stop having people delete this photo? Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ometzger71 (talk • contribs) 18:20, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
- Ometzger71, You said you have written permission from Keir to use the photo, but do you have written permission from the photographer to use the photo? Because that's who you need to get it from. Please take a look at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on how to document the permission and what it needs to include. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 18:36, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
External links www.datemeinfo.blogspot.com
Hello,
Is it permitted to use external links in editing text? For example, the topic is related to dating and creates an external link https://datemeinfo.blogspot.com in the context of the topic?
The link is not for investment purposes but in the context of the topic.
Please reply.
Thank you... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Asimplegirl2U (talk • contribs) 16:54, 10 April 2019 (UTC)

- Assadabdulrahman - I've suppressed the IP address information from that edit for you. You're all set. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:02, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Assadabdulrahman: You can ask for Wikipedia administrators to remove from public sight your IP from edit logs for privacy reasons and Oshwah did so. This is routinely done for logged-out edit in order to avoid association of a user account with an IP address, because the IP address can give out your geographical location.
- However, you seem to be under the impression that knowledge of a computer's IP address allows to crack it. That is not the case (except maybe if you modified the configuration of your router firewall in an atrocious way, but there is no way you did that by accident or without knowing). The IP address is not sensitive information - for example, every internet website you visit knows your IP address, because that's how they know how to send you the page you requested (see TCP/IP for the technical details). TigraanClick here to contact me 14:19, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
- Just for future reference, if anyone wants to know: Personal information (which does include IP addresses of contributors with accounts) is usually redacted using WP:SUPPRESSion rather than regular revdel, which is basically the same thing but only people who've signed a NDA and have the permission can see it after. You'd also usually want to use a private means of communication to request it, typically via email to oversight-en-wp@wikipedia.org or by finding an Oversighter to bug on one of our IRC channels. While most people here are nice, this is still a public noticeboard that anyone can read, which means if you post enough information for someone to find the information in order to delete it, anyone who chances upon it, including any hackers or stalkers or whatever, may see and act on it. Issues creating a citation to a foreign-language Wikisource page
Hi. I've been struggling to create a link within a citation to a Wikisource page. The best I can come up with so far is this:
Choudhury, Achyut Charan (1917). Wikisource.CS1 maint: Unrecognized language (link)
(in ISO 639-1 bn). Calcutta. pp. 312–330 – viaThe link leads to a dead end and I'm not sure where I've gone wrong.
The link to the actual page is this. (For some reason, you have to click on the foreign-language link directly below the title to be led to the right page).
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Alivardi (talk) 13:49, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Alivardi: You were almost there. The following correctly links to something in Bengali wikisource (but not the same URL, you might have to check the target link - I have no idea whether those are connected works or entirely different, as I do not read Bengali):
- Choudhury, Achyut Charan (1917). Wikisource. (in Bengali). Calcutta. pp. 312–330 – via
- Your error was putting "ISO 639-1" in the language code - the correct version is
wslanguage=bn
. TigraanClick here to contact me 14:29, 11 April 2019 (UTC) - There is another problem with that citation that is neither your fault nor the fault of
{{cite wikisource}}
but is, I think, the fault of editors at bn.wikisource. {{cite wikisource}}
translates:|wslink=নির্ঘণ্ট:শ্রীহট্টের ইতিবৃত্ত - পূর্বাংশ.pdf
- to:
[[s:bn:নির্ঘণ্ট:শ্রীহট্টের ইতিবৃত্ত - পূর্বাংশ.pdf]]
- That translation is handed-off to Module:Citation/CS1 which translates it to:
https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/bn:নির্ঘণ্ট:শ্রীহট্টের ইতিবৃত্ত_-_পূর্বাংশ.pdf
- This last translation is done so that the module can render the citation with the proper wikisource icon instead of the usual external link icon.
- The problem arises because of the
.pdf
file extension. Module:Citation/CS1 replaces the external link icon with the wikisource icon:- Choudhury, Achyut Charan (1917). Wikisource. –
|wslink=নির্ঘণ্ট:শ্রীহট্টের ইতিবৃত্ত - পূর্বাংশ
– this example doesn't work because that page (without the.pdf
file extension) doesn't exist (in Bengali). Calcutta. pp. 312–330 – via
- Choudhury, Achyut Charan (1917). Wikisource. –
- Then the whole citation is handed-off to MediaWiki for rendering into html. MediaWiki, because of rules in MediaWiki:Common.css and the
.pdf
file extension, replaces the wikisource icon with the PDF icon. But, and here, finally is the point of all of this:https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/bn:নির্ঘণ্ট:শ্রীহট্টের ইতিবৃত্ত_-_পূর্বাংশ.pdf
does not point to a PDF document; it points to an HTML document and thereby misleads readers.
- The page at bn.wikisource (and subsidiary pages) should be renamed to remove the
.pdf
file extension. Someone who speaks Bengali might raise this issue at bn.wikisource where it can be fixed. I'll hold my breath while I wait for that to happen, shall I? - —Trappist the monk (talk) 15:33, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Trappist the monk: Yeah I thought the pdf thing was a bit weird. But would it be possible to correct the issue myself? Perhaps moving the document like you would do to an article here? Or would I have to move each individual page? Alivardi (talk) 18:06, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
- I don't know the answer to that which is why I suggested raising the issue at bn.wikisource.

comments to me about edits that I did not make.
There seems to be two recent comments (talk) regarding objections to contributions which comments are directed at me referring to an IP address that is supposed to be mine. It says that the IP is registered in Nassau County, but I live in France. I believe that someone may have deliberately registered my IP address in Nassau County (New York State) and then made questionable contributions, somehow using that IP, including one which is characterized as vandalism. I do not know enough about such things to know how such a thing could be done, but I know of someone in Nassau County that would be capable of such an improper act. (I will not name the person at this time, in part because it is a family member, albeit a hostile one.) please let me know if there is some way to stop this misuse of an IP number that seems (also) to belong to my computer here in France. - An IP's user talk page will usually include a notice along the lines of MediaWiki:Anontalkpagetext, as IP addresses may be used by a number of different people. If you stick to editing from your registered account, and keep the credentials of that account protected, you ought not to have problems. --David Biddulph (talk) 17:06, 11 April 2019 (UTC)

Since you are here posting via a Wikipedia account, I cannot see what your current IP is: are you referring to whatever your IP is when you are not logged in to Wikipedia? If so, check the dates of the comments in question, and be aware that many IP addresses are not permanent, but can be reassigned by ISPs, particularly over long periods. My own ISP only provides dynamic IPs, so I get a different one every time I happen to switch off and then switch on my router. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 2.122.2.132 (talk) 17:13, 11 April 2019 (UTC)

- A) What Method You are using to upload
- B) What error/message you are getting.
- Thanks, and I Hope I can help! WelpThatWorked (talk) 00:55, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
- Hello, Steliospavlidis, and welcome to English Wikipedia. I don't want to sound negative, but I want to warn you that you have taken on a very very difficult task. First, creating a new article is one of the hardest tasks on Wikipedia, and I always advise new users to make a few hundred edits improving existing articles before they try it: please look at your first article.
- Secondly, writing an article about a family member is even harder, because it is so much harder to write neutrally. If you go ahead and do it anyway, then you need to read all about editing with a conflict of interest.
- Thirdly, if you are creating an article, I advise not worrying about images until you have done the important part, which is finding several reliably published sources, wholly unconnected with the subject of the article. Without such sources, it is impossible to establish that the subject is notable (though if your father is a minister in a national government, he probably is notable).
- Fourthly, Wikipedia will not accept any information which has not already been published in a reliable place (so it will not accept anything just from your personal knowledge, or from unpublished documents); it is not much interested in what the subject says, or what their relatives or associates say about them; and it has no interest at all in what the subject wishes to be said or not said about them. It is only interested in what people who have no connection about the subject have chosen to publish about them. (These sources do not have to be in English, or online, though it is helpful if they are).
- Finally, when you do get to the point of thinking about an image, the owner of the copyright (who is usually not the subject, unless a contract assigned it to them) must agree to release the image under a licence that will allow anybody to reuse the image for any purpose. See donating copyright materials.
- I really suggest you leave an article about your father alone, and find other places in Wikipedia where you are interested in contributing. --ColinFine (talk) 20:51, 12 April 2019 (UTC)

What is the bar for "own work"?
I came across recently-uploaded media and was surprised that the author of the piece would be alive to upload it as their own work. On closer look it seems that a title was added at an angle relative to the photo—and I'm not sure what other elements—to make this a cover of a book. I'm too new to Wikipedia to say whether this should stay or go. Does it count as an author's own work? Would it not be better to use the original photograph in this case?
I'm also wondering how I would bring this to someone's attention who knows more than I do about the workings of Wikipedia. Would posing this question on the talk page for the photo be the right course of action? Dilligentlizard (talk) 00:02, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
- Good catch, but unfortunately you're asking in the wrong place. - Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a database. Wikidata sounds more suited for you. Click "Wikidata item" under "Tools" in the left pane of an article to see the Wikidata information about the article subject, e.g. London (Q84). Many Wikipedia articles pull some of their data from Wikidata. Wikidata does not pull data from Wikipedia but bots often copy information from Wikipedia to Wikidata. Many things are only at one of the sites and the common things are not always identical. I haven't tried the Wikidata API but see mw:Wikibase/API. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:14, 12 April 2019 (UTC)

Question about Huggle
I'm new to Huggle. When patrolling recent changes, I would like to see the change as implemented in a Wikipedia article like I do with Twinkle. Is there a way I can do this? I also asked the question at the Teahouse. Link: Wikipedia:Teahouse#Question_about_Huggle

Translation
Hello,
I have created an article in Wikipedia in greek language.
You may find it here https://el.wikipedia.org/wiki/%CE%9F%CE%B9%CE%BA%CE%BF%CE%B3%CE%AD%CE%BD%CE%B5%CE%B9%CE%B1_%CE%A0%CE%B1%CF%84%CE%AD%CF%81%CE%B1
Could you please advice how can I create an English version of this article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dpml2019 (talk • contribs) 13:55, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
- Hello, Dpm12019. Translated articles are welcome: please see WP:Translation for information on how to do it. By the way, a clearer way to wikilink to an article in another Wikipedia is this:
[[:el:Οικογένεια Πατέρα]]
displays as el:Οικογένεια Πατέρα. (If you need such a link from within an article, it's better to use the template {{ill}}). --ColinFine (talk) 21:03, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
Help with an article that was recently flagged and moved to draft.
This page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Joey_Attawia was moved to Draft status and I am unsure why. The person is a coworker and is an active television and film producer. It appears his picture was removed for copywrite violation and then the entire article was placed into draft mode. What can i do to get this article out of Draft? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Paulferlita (talk • contribs) 15:17, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Paulferlita: It seems the page was moved to draft by Doc James as it appears to have been created in return for payment. The summary left by 'Doc' was "Paid articles need to go through AfC" which is the Wikipedia review process. The creator of the page (Fenopy) would need to include it in the process by adding
{{subst:submit}}
to the top of the page. It has also been requested that they read WP:PAID and make any disclosures necessary but it is not clear if this has been complied with. Further, any persons with a connection to the subject have what is known as a conflict of interest and should read that page and only make edit requests via the article talk page. Also, the notability guidelines should be complied with. Cheers. Eagleash (talk) 17:38, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
Question about Category:Toxins
Hello. I just posted in the Talk page of Category talk:Toxins, and while doing so, saw this: "Talk pages in this namespace are generally not watched by many users. Please consider visiting the Help desk for a more prompt response or reviewing the Categorization FAQ for quick tips." As such, I'm also bringing the question here. I believe the category page may be incorrectly placed under Category:Toxicants, but we could use a subject matter expert to finalize that assessment. I don't know if there is anything else to be done at this point, but posting here in case there is. Thank you! Kind regards, Lostraven (talk) 15:34, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
- The Toxicant article says that Toxicants are any toxic substance and adds "The term covers substances that may be man-made, biologically produced, or naturally occurring" - X201 (talk) 15:42, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
- As it turns out, the source used to substantiate that claim doesn't actually substantiate it. It only says "Whether a chemical is synthetic or "natural" has no bearing on its toxicity." It doesn't explicitly say that a toxicant can be man made and/or naturally occurring. I'll take that up on the Toxicant page. I DID find a source that claims all toxins are toxicants, but, as I pointed out on the Toxicant talk page, this and this source treat them separately. There seems to be disagreement in the literature, and indeed, a subject matter expert could be useful here. Lostraven (talk) 19:12, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
Is it okay to leave in a self-link if the link covers something that lacks an article?
The page for dry cleaning has the following sentence:
"The potential for petroleum-based solvents was recognized by French dye-works operator Jean Baptiste Jolly…"
The link for "Jean Baptiste Jolly" links back to "dry cleaning" (no particular section). Should the link be removed?--75.110.35.108 (talk) 18:10, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
- I've changed the redirect to point to the relevant section of the target page. The redirect could be changed to an article in its own right if the subject meets the notability requirements. --David Biddulph (talk) 18:52, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
Potentially Dangerous Spam from User Thepharma
User Thepharma keeps adding spam here that Firefox IDs as "Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead ... Firefox detected a potential security threat and did not continue to www.canadadrugs247.com. If you visit this site, attackers could try to steal information like your passwords, emails, or credit card details..." Kolyvansky (talk) 19:01, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
- The site has invalid certificate but is not dangerous although this is spam, of course. Ruslik_Zero 20:39, 12 April 2019 (UTC)

- Gabrielchabojr. If you want to write an article in Swedish, please go to the Swedish Wikipedia. I don't know what the relevant policies are on sv-wiki, but on en-wiki, writing about yourself is strongly discouraged, and articles must be mostly based on what people unconnected with the subject have chosen to publish about the subject. The subject's own writings are mostly irrelevant. --ColinFine (talk) 23:02, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
Billboard links
Hi, in Tears in Heaven, some of the external links to Billboard don't work [properly]; in particular:
- Tears_in_Heaven#cite_note-usac-11 leads to https://www.billboard.com/music/Eric-Clapton/chart-history/adult-contemporary, though it should actually lead to https://www.billboard.com/music/Eric-Clapton/chart-history/adult-contemporary/song/9684.
- Tears_in_Heaven#cite_note-msrs-14 leads to https://www.billboard.com/music/Eric-Clapton/chart-history/hot-mainstream-rock-tracks, though it should lead to https://www.billboard.com/music/Eric-Clapton/chart-history//song/9684, where you get by klicking
More Chart History
at https://www.billboard.com/music/Eric-Clapton/chart-history/hot-mainstream-rock-tracks – Note: However, the target content currently seems to be broken or rather to have been moved somewhere else!
Since those references use the Singlechart template, and I don't know how to correspondingly improve the template parameter settings, can anybody here provide further assistance?--Hildeoc (talk) 22:51, 12 April 2019 (UTC)

Converting all interlinks in a page to the names of the articles that exist in a different Wikipdedia edition?
Is there any tool available that is capable of taking any page on the English Wikipedia, which is full of interlinks to other English Wikipedia articles, and in an instance convert all of the interlinks to those whom exist in a different wikipedia edition so that the adjusted page could be used as the basis for a translated page at the other Wikipedia edition? (currently working on importing the giant 10,000 articles list at Wikipedia:Vital articles to the Hebrew Wikipedia, so such a tool would be very helpful right now. WikiJunkie (talk) 09:27, 13 April 2019 (UTC)
- WikiJunkie, we have a translation tool (Hebrew version). I just tested it and it does seem to automatically do links when it can. Alpha3031 (t • c) 10:40, 13 April 2019 (UTC)
- Alpha3031, I just tested it and it did not do any links. How did you manage to get it to translate links? WikiJunkie (talk) 12:21, 13 April 2019 (UTC)
- Alpha3031, Okay, I figured out how to do so, but the problem now is that it seem the tool is only available for articles in the mainspace while the articles I want to translate are in the "Wikipedia:" space. WikiJunkie (talk) 12:42, 13 April 2019 (UTC)
- WikiJunkie, sorry, I'm not good at many languages and I was trying to figure out how take a screenshot to show how I'm doing things. Have you tried entering the page title into the search bar at the top, with the WP: prefix? It seems to work for me. Alpha3031 (t • c) 12:50, 13 April 2019 (UTC)
- Seems that there is no way around this one but to temporarily upload the relevant text with links to an article in the mainspace and after the translation is done restore that article to previous version. WikiJunkie (talk) 17:30, 13 April 2019 (UTC)

Cross Language Vandalism
Hi, we've had a problematic users jumping IPv6 addresses changing building ownership to "Anup Mandal" and/or "Government Company", as well as adding links to http://www.anupmandalcom.wordpress.com (see World One and Antilia (building) for examples). However, doing google searches forsite:wikipedia.org "Anup Mandal" and site:wikipedia.org "anupmandalcom.wordpress.com" if appears this is a multi language problem. Mostly in French that appears to have been all reverted, but also Marathi (not reverted yet done) Korean (not reverted yet done) Hindi (not reverted yet done) Chinesse (reverted).
Is there any place to report such cross language problems? And if any editors read Marathi, Korean, Hindi can they revert those edits and check for any others? Done
Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 10:33, 13 April 2019 (UTC)
- KylieTastic, cross-wiki stuff usually goes to meta. Meta:SRG is the place to request global blocks, but according to their AN'ish noticeboard, if you want to report cross-wiki vandalism Meta:SRM is the place. Alpha3031 (t • c) 13:08, 13 April 2019 (UTC)
Artist Photograph
I've submitted an artist bio for https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Donley that has been removed. The photographer submitted copyright information following Wikipedia procedures, yet the photo has not been readded and no one has responded to me about this photograph. Is there someone who can help me with this? --Elizdonley (talk) 18:07, 13 April 2019 (UTC)
Removing Template Message
Can someone please let me know how I can get the Template Message removed from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Donley? I have stopped editing the article and there have been significant edits made by different editors. All the material is cited and is neutral in tone. Can this please be removed? --Elizdonley (talk) 18:10, 13 April 2019 (UTC)
