This page describes the process for creating articles on Wikipedia. Although the process itself is fairly simple, there is quite a lot that you need to think about first.
Only experienced editors should ever create an article from scratch. Others should first create a draft page and build the article there.
Creating an article
If you are not yet familiar with the process, please read Wikipedia:Your first article, as it will help you avoid the classic "newbie" mistakes and save your hard work from being deleted.
Creating a draft
If you don't have a Wikipedia user account, consider registering an account now. If you choose not to register, or you have a conflict of interest but have an idea for a new article with some references, you can create one here and it will be reviewed and considered for publication. If you have an idea for the title of an article, but no content for the article itself, please make a request at Wikipedia:Requested articles. If you already have a Wikipedia user account, you can also use the Article Wizard to help you create your article.
When you are ready to create your draft, go to the Wikipedia:Article wizard and it will guide you through creating a draft in the Draft: namespace.
Conflicts of interest
Note: If you have a conflict of interest with the topic you are writing about, you should disclose it on the article talk page; see WP:DISCLOSE.
- If you are being paid to contribute to Wikipedia, you must—under the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use—disclose who is paying you, who the client is, and any other relevant affiliation; for more information see WP:COIPAYDISCLOSE. There is also more information about this requirement at Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Review and publishing
Once a draft has been prepared in the Draft: namespace or in your user space such as your user sandbox, you can submit it for review at Articles for Creation by adding the code {{subst:submit}}
to the top of the draft or user page.
Warning: There is an ongoing scam targeting Articles for Creation participants. See this scam warning for detailed information.
- Bona fide reviewers at Articles for Creation will never contact or solicit anyone for payment to get a draft into article space, improve a draft, or restore a deleted article. If someone contacts you with such an offer, please send a copy of the email, including headers, to arbcom-en
wikimedia.org.
Note: Experienced editors are always needed to participate in reviews. Reviewing instructions can be found here.
Recently created articles
This page contain the titles and authors of the ten articles which have most recently been accepted for publication through the Articles for Creation process. This list is automatically updated with each new acceptance. |

Old drafts
Old drafts, drafts that have been unedited for more than six months, are routinely deleted (see WP:CSD#G13). Once deleted, they can be recovered at WP:REFUND/G13. A bot reports pages elegible for deletion daily Wikipedia:Database reports/Stale drafts. These can be reviewed and nominated for deletion or improved for mainspace.
Some old drafts have been identified as “promising”, but without any active editor actually committing to working on them. See Category:Promising draft articles. Consider browsing these drafts for topics that you would like to improve and move to mainspace. If you disagree with the tag, remove it. Another Category:AfC postponed G13 contains articles that someone deemed as having too much potential to allow G13 deletion. These can often be improved for mainspace.
