User groups
- Account creator ( • view requests): The account creator flag is granted to users who are active in the request an account process. The flag removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24 hour period. It also allows users to make accounts with names similar to other accounts. The account creator flag is only given to users who participate in the ACC process and may be removed without notice should a user's participation in the account creation process cease.
- Autopatrolled ( • view requests): The autopatrolled flag is granted to users who are active in the creation of new articles. This tool is granted so their creations are auto patrolled in Special:NewPages. Unlike other requests, any user may nominate an editor for Autopatrolled, even without that user's consent. A user who wishes to have this flag generally should have created at least 25 articles and must be trusted, experienced, and must have demonstrated they are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, especially WP:BLP and Wikipedia:Notability.
- AutoWikiBrowser ( • view requests): AutoWikiBrowser is a semi-automated MediaWiki editor for Microsoft Windows, designed to make tedious repetitive tasks quicker and easier. It is essentially a browser that automatically opens up a new page when the last is saved. When set to do so, it suggests some changes (typically formatting) that are generally meant to be incidental to the main change. Please read the quick guide on the main page before requesting permission. This is not a true user right, but access needs to be granted by administrators just like other permissions. If approved, your name will be added to the CheckPage. Users with under 250 non-automated mainspace edits or 500 total mainspace edits are rarely approved. You only need to give a reason for wanting AWB access if you do not meet these qualifications.
- Confirmed ( • view requests): The confirmed flag may be granted to new users who have not yet hit the threshold for autoconfirmed status. These are users who have not had both 10 edits and 4 days experience. People with this flag can upload files and edit semi-protected pages before hitting the autoconfirmed flag. Users requesting this flag must indicate clearly why they should be exempted from the customary confirmation period.
- Extended confirmed ( • view requests): The extended confirmed flag is normally automatically added to accounts, but may be added to legitimate alternate accounts of users that already have this access. The flag allows users to edit pages under extended confirmed protection.
- File mover ( • view requests): The file mover user right is intended to allow users experienced in working with files to rename them, subject to policy, with the ease that autoconfirmed users already enjoy when renaming Wikipedia articles.
- Mass message sender ( · view requests): Mass message sender enables users to send messages to multiple users at once. This flag is given to users who have had made requests for delivery in the past, clearly showing an understanding of the guidance for use.
- New page reviewer ( • view requests): The new page reviewer user right allows users to mark pages as patrolled and use the page curation hoverbar.
- Page mover ( • view requests): The page mover user right allows users experienced in working with article names to move them, subject to policy, without leaving behind a redirect. They may also move all subpages when moving the parent page(s). General guidelines include making 3,000 edits and 6 months of editing history.
- Pending changes reviewer ( • view requests): The reviewer flag is granted to users who are experienced enough with Wikipedia editing and its policies for contributing to the process of reviewing articles placed under pending changes.
- Rollback ( • view requests): Rollback enables users to remove vandalism much more quickly and efficiently than by undoing it. Users who do not demonstrate an understanding of what constitutes capable vandalism fighting, either because they have no or little history of doing so, or show a poor ability to discern between good and bad faith edits will not be granted this right. Also, it is unlikely that editors with under 200 mainspace edits will have their request granted. For a more detailed explanation of rollback and information about when it is appropriate to use the tool, see Wikipedia:Rollback. For information about the technical details of the feature, see here.
- Template editor ( • view requests): The template editor flag allows users to edit protected templates and Lua modules. General guidelines for granting include making at least 1,000 edits overall (with at least 150 to templates or modules), being a registered user for over a year, and having a record of successfully proposing significant edits to several protected templates. Users should demonstrate proficiency with template syntax and an understanding of the need for caution when editing heavily-used templates.
Handled elsewhere
Several permissions are requested and handled elsewhere:
- Administrator and bureaucrat access: Requests for administrator or bureaucrat access need to be posted at requests for adminship and requests for bureaucratship, respectively.
- Edit filter: Requests for access to the Edit filter manager group should be made at Wikipedia:Edit filter noticeboard. Requests may take in general up to seven days to process; more in case appropriate consensus is not clear.
- IP-block-exempt: While the IP-block-exempt right can be granted by administrators, this flag is not handled here. Requests for the IP-block exempt right should be submitted via the Unblock Ticket Request System or, if there are significant privacy concerns, to the Functionaries list (see Wikipedia:Functionaries).
- Courses access: Requests for access (coordinator, instructor, volunteer) need to be made at the education noticeboard.
- Oversight and CheckUser: These rights are only granted by the Arbitration Committee, and only after strict scrutiny. More information can be found here.
Removal of permissions
If you wish to have any of your permission flags (except administrator) removed, you should contact an administrator. If you want your administrator flag removed, you should contact a bureaucrat.
This is not the place to request review of another user's rights. If you believe someone's actions merit removal of a permission flag, you should raise your concern at the incidents noticeboard.
Note: The bureaucrat, checkuser and oversight flags cannot be removed using this process page; those need to be posted at Steward requests/permissions. Stewards will typically not carry out such requests unless they come from members of the Arbitration Committee or a user who is requesting their own access be removed.
Process
Requestors
To make a request for a permission, click "add request" next to the appropriate header and fill in the reason for wanting permission.
Any editor may comment on requests for permission.
Administrators
Administrators are permitted to grant account creator, autopatrolled, confirmed, file mover, mass message sender, pending changes reviewer, rollback and template editor flags to any user who meets the criteria explained above and can be trusted not to abuse the tool(s). For convenience, a bot will automatically comment with relevant data if the user does not meet configurable qualifications. Even if the bot does not comment, administrators should review the user's contributions and logs to ensure the tools will be used appropriately and check for any indication of potential misuse.
Once an administrator has granted a permission or decided to deny a request, they should add {{done}} or {{not done}} respectively under the request with their comments. If a user already has the requested permission, or is autoconfirmed and requesting confirmed, {{already done}} should be used. N hours after the last comment was made (as specified by the config), the request will be archived automatically: approved requests will be placed here; declined requests will go here. See User:MusikBot/PermClerk#Archiving for more information on archiving functionality.

- Hello. I am co-hosting a WIkipedia edit-a-thon at the University of Waterloo on December 7 from 12:00 - 2:30. I would like to request account Creator status for this time only so that I can encourage new editors to Wikipedia to create an account and participate. Our meetup is here: Wikipedia:Meetup/Kitchener-Waterloo/16_Days_UW. I hope this is enough information but if not, feel free to send me any questions or anything else you may need.
Thanks S42brown (talk) 19:42, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

- Could someone associated with the edit-a-thon verify your role there? Is there a particular reason you're requesting this user right instead of an established editor associated with the edit-a-thon, such as Dnllnd? ~ Rob13Talk 10:32, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
- Hi, BU Rob13. Thanks for following up so quickly. S42brown and I are hosting the edit-a-thon together and I am happy to take on the user right as the more experienced user. Apologies for the confusion - this is our first time moving through this process. Thanks for your patience! --Dnllnd (talk) 19:18, 29 November 2016 (UTC)

- I work a lot on TV series related articles and would find this incredibly useful for things like organization when, for example, an article's source code is a mess, making it almost impossible to edit. And I personally still prefer to use the source editor over the visual editor, unless I'm just updating the episode in the info box of whatever article, so this would definitely be incredibly useful. Amaury (talk | contribs) 19:40, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
- @Amaury: Could you provide a few example diffs of what you have in mind? It's not clear what exactly you're referring to when you say a "mess". ~ Rob13Talk 10:35, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
- @BU Rob13: Sure! And I apologize for the delay in replying. Look at of Kirby Buckets from June 24, 2015, for example. Scroll down until you see the Episodes section and then just continue scrolling and looking at the episode entries. You'll notice it looked pretty messy, right? On June 28, 2015, I the article, including the episode table. Again, scroll down to the Episodes section, and you'll notice a big difference. I made it much more organized and easier to tell things apart. If I remember correctly, that took at least 30 minutes, if not more, so having AWB would have made that a lot easier and less time-consuming. Amaury (talk | contribs) 02:24, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

- I've been on a semi-WikiBreak for a bit and didn't realize that this user permission was created. I've been on WP for roughly two years, and NPP and CSD/PROD have been some of my main maintenance work (see User:Johanna/CSD log). In my earlier days, I was very active at AFC as well. Thanks to any patrolling sysops for taking the time to review this request! Johanna(talk to me!) 19:02, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
- @Johanna: I am seeing many overhasty nominations on the A7 criterion. Editors do not have a chance to put any claim of importance. I recommend at least a 30 minute delay before tagging with A1, A3, A7 or A9 to let the editor say what they wish to put down in the article. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 08:36, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
-
- @Graeme Bartlett: Thanks for taking the time to reply. Based on the CSD criterion for A7 and Template:uw-hasty, I was under the impression that this consensus tended to apply more to A1 and A3 than anything else. In addition, the 10–15 minute guideline is what I tend to use as opposed to Of the potentially problematic speedy nominations (that I can access), there are only two A7s in the past year that may fit this pattern. One of them was tagged nine minutes after creation, and one of them was done after Wgolf put a serious tag on the article, which led me to (perhaps mistakenly) assume that I could use my best judgment as well. Both of these were eight months ago. For any other articles, I tend to apply A7 quickly only when nothing on a source search seems to be able to save the article, when it's an A7/G11 that's obviously a COI, and other similar issues. Hope that helps. Johanna(talk to me!) 15:36, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

- Reason for requesting new page reviewer rights: I have over 21k edits and have been editing since 2010. I have brought articles to GA status, done some GA Reviews (yeah, trying to review more but it takes me so long!), created articles, fight vandalism but have a soft spot for new/inexperienced editors so try to help them learn their way (I remember how overwhelming WP was to me when I first started...) I find recently that I am doing a fair amount of vandalism-fighting/new page patrolling/beating back paid-editing on my own. Having this tool would make my work around WP much easier. Thanks. Shearonink (talk) 15:46, 29 November 2016 (UTC)

- Xaosflux Of course. I've been looking over all the various information pages...WP:NPP, Wikipedia:Page Curation/Help, Wikipedia:Page Curation/Tutorial, WP:NPR, etc. I think the right & its tools would be useful for my editing around here going forward, but if there's some problem with giving me the NPP right, I'll just continue on editing as I always have. Cheers, Shearonink (talk) 19:18, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
- Done I think it is fine, be sure to check out the page curation hoverbar - you may find you really like it! - I have been interested in maintenance tasks on Wikipedia since I became semi-retired this summer (as I’m never going to be a great content creator, except for when I see red links that I might know something about). I currently review the few articles with edits awaiting review that come my way per day, use the rollback rights if and when required, and classify maybe 30-40 edits per day on STiki - I am careful to notify editors either through this programme or Twinkle if I find more problem edits on the editor or IP’s history. I always try to err on the side of assuming good faith. I had started NPP around September this year and continued until the new rights came in and as such I am familiar with the Page Curation Tool, understand that it is not a race and to give the article time (except hoax, attack pages etc.,), don’t bite newcomers etc., and that many of the articles are going to be OK with a little TLC - maybe add a ref if I can, clean up with ReFill or add a cat. I had received auto notification to apply for NPP permission mid Nov but wanted to wait the month that admin Kudpung previously advised. I can confirm that I have carefully studied the new guidelines and would like to initially start on the large backlog from around July 2016, if permission is granted. - To the admins reviewing this user, the word "messages" is spelled "massages" on his user page, in " Please do not post massages here!!!". Also, this user has 220 total edits, 70 with an edit summary, only 5 to articles, 124 of his edits (56 percent) are to his user page, 11 edits are on his own talk page, and the rest are scattered throughout requests for adminship, other talk pages, and WikiProject member sheets (added himself to 5 WikiProjects). I personally do not believe this user is old enough to have Rollback permissions. The account is also 19 days old. There is also no evidence of anti-vandalism work on this account, even though the account is a member of the CVU. I'd recommend he go through the academy or adopt-a-user program prior to requesting Rollback permissions. Adotchar| reply here 22:28, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
- Not done. Please see the notice at the top of this page. With only 5 edits to the mainspace, I don't think you have sufficient editing experience yet.
