This version of Wikipedia is written in English (see Main Page#Wikipedia languages). With this being said, this page is a place to list foreign language articles on the English Wikipedia, to see if they can be translated before they are listed on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. If someone speaks the language the article is written in and can state that it is not worth translating, the item should be moved to AfD or tagged with {{prod}}.
If an article has been listed here for two weeks and is still untranslated, it should be nominated for deletion.

Standard procedures
If the article is a mere copy of (all or part of) an article in a foreign-language Wikipedia, it can just be tagged with {{db-foreign}} to get added to Wikipedia:Candidates for speedy deletion: we want to discourage people who cut articles from one Wikipedia and paste to another without translating. If you want to ask for a translation of an article from a foreign-language Wikipedia, go to Wikipedia:Translation. Or instead you can leave a message on the contributing user's talk-page using the templates from Wikipedia:Pages needing translation into English/Templates for user talk pages or using {{UE}}.
Sometimes, legitimate articles are replaced by foreign-language content. In this case, the last English-language version should be restored from the history.
If an article has been listed here for two weeks and is still untranslated, it should be nominated for deletion.
When listing a page here, you might want to find the Wikipedia:Embassy or Ambassador member of the Wikipedia that relates to the language the article is in and invite them to move the page to their own Wikipedia. If you don't even know what language the article is in you could use Language recognition chart and if that fails, some language recognition web site, such as Xerox or What Language Is This? to find out. If you have come here from another Wikipedia, please note on this page what you think should be done with the article.
Articles that are not in English are still subject to all other forms of speedy deletion should they meet the criteria, and can be nominated for deletion by prod or afd should an editor feel they warrant deletion for a reason other than the language it is in, an article not being in English is not itself a criterion for deletion until the two week period has passed. Also, foreign-language articles are still subject to blp prod.
When a page listed here has been translated, its entry should be removed (or moved to cleanup if the translation needs another pair of eyes).
Boilerplate text
Translate page
For a page that needs translation in its entirety (so it would be appropriate to delete if not fixed):
- 1. Use the notice
{{notenglish|NameOfLanguage}}
if you know the language used, or{{notenglish}}
if you cannot identify the language of the page in question. The template will show up as:
- 2. Add a mention on this page.
- 2.1. If you know what language was used, add:
{{subst:Needtrans| pg= | Language=NameOfLanguage| Comments= }}--~~~~
- replacing NameOfLanguage with the English name of the language.
- 2.2. If you cannot identify the language used, add:
{{subst:Needtrans| pg= | Language=unknown| Comments= }}--~~~~
- 2.1. If you know what language was used, add:
- 3. You may also choose to warn the contributing editor with
{{uw-english}}
, the "use English" warning, or suggest to use a different language Wikipedia with{{contrib-xx1}}
, where xx is the language code (see available templates). An alternate template for identifying the article as having been listed here is{{uw-notenglish}}
. Usage is:-
{{subst:uw-notenglish|articlename|<optional text>}}~~~~
-
- Bilingual versions of this template have been created for Norwegian, Spanish, Polish, and French. See the note on these at
{{uw-notenglish}}
.
Translate section
If there is just a section that needs translation:
- 1. Use the notice
{{Not English|NameOfLanguage|section}}
, with the word "section" as a second unnamed parameter at the beginning of the non-English content. The template will show up as:
- 2. Add a mention on this page, as above.
- 3. You may wish to place a note on the talk pages of contributors of non-English material, saying that English Wikipedia is meant for English-language content, inviting them to translate it, and, if appropriate, suggesting the location of the Wikipedia edition for the language in question should they wish to post content in that language.
Cleanup
If the article has been translated, but needs attention from someone approaching dual fluency in both languages:
- 1. Use the notice
{{cleanup-translation}}
, which will show up as:
- 2. Add a mention to the translation cleanup section.
Pages for consideration
If you are sure, consider placing the corresponding template on the creator's talk page.

Pistis Sophia#Askew Codex
There are a few phrases in this section in Latin where translation has been requested--Jac16888 Talk 12:59, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
- Actually that's mostly ancient Greek. De728631 (talk) 19:41, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
- A bit of both, really. "Secundus tomos pisteos sofias" for example means "second tome of the Pistis Sophia", with secundus being Latin and the rest a transliteration from Greek.- HyperGaruda (talk) 21:05, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
- Comment The three Latin/Greek terms in that section, Meros teuchon soteros, palingenesiai (reoccurence) and thesauros luminis, are really just names of works and I don't think they benefit from translation. How do you translate thesauros for example? It would make no sense to translate it as "illuminating treasure-house" (or treasury (disambiguation), or – what I don't think it is – an illuminated manuscript) because that makes it harder for people to guess the etymology, which can be found fairly readily at thesaurus. The etymology there has a couple of diacritics that the section doesn't but that is easily fixed. dSi Trew (talk) 04:25, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

- @Athomeinkobe: it's PROD Day today for Masato Noda, but I'm not sure what your plans are. Draftify/userfy so you can continue translating? Or are we going to delete him for being a non-notable teacher? - HyperGaruda (talk) 18:18, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you for the ping HyperGaruda. I have no intention to keep working on the article because I cannot see any notability in it. Perhaps the author Takezonose would like it moved to draft space so they can work on it. If there is no response from the author, perhaps it should be taken to AFD rather than PRODed since there are claims to notability on the talk page. I am not fully conversant with how they judge notability for academics at AFD, but I think we should hand it over to them for a proper consideration. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 00:40, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

I have run into paid editors, but not in the area of translation, at least not on this kind of article which is or primarily cultural interest. Notre-Dame de la Garde
The initial language of this article was French. bad machine translation from travel guide. Once english is made comprehensible will require a re-write for style and tone. I got about 2/3 through a first pass of deciphering. Will require enough knowledge of French to refer to the page on that wiki; it's almost incomprehensible Elinruby (talk) 13:12, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
- @Elinruby, looks like you're doing a great job over there. Have a question for you, and other experienced translator/copy-editors seeing this comment, namely: is there a standard way to leave a "pointer" or other indicator of how far you have gotten, or otherwise to apportion translation/copy-edit tasks among more than one editor?
- I looked at this article and it's quite long; jumping around in it, I can see edited portions that are good now, and other sections that range from okay to poor, and it's easy to see which those are, but the article is so long, I don't wish to spend tons of time reading the whole thing just to assess which parts still need work. Not to mention the fact that I don't wish to barge in on the first "poor" section, and end up with an unintended edit conflict with you. Any ideas from anybody on how best to do this? As a first guess, I'm thinking a section on the Talk page of the article itself to discuss how far one has gotten, or alternatively, "I plan to translate sections X through Y next" or something. I'd be happy to help out on this article, but don't wish to duplicate effort or step on your toes. Thoughts? Mathglot (talk) 21:58, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
-
- @Mathglot, if you are interested in picking up on the article, I couldn't be happier; I put it back on the list recently when I realized that I took it off when I started work on it, intending, at the time to finish it, but as you say, it is very long and while my French is quite fluent I don't have any particular background in architecture, let alone religious architecture, in either language. I was worked on several articles on this as a public service back when I was sick and unable to work, and picked this one because I was rather saddened by the comment that it was incomprehensible, which indeed it was. It does seem to be an important landmark, but I have since gotten quite busy and have other translation projects I have also not finished and am more personally invested in. If you do not pick it up and nobody else does either, I will try to get back to it, but meanwhile yes, it still needs considerable help as of about 2/3 of the way through and after that will still need a re-write for style as it was almost certainly a machine translation of a French-language guide book. I'll come back and give a precise indication of where to pick on on translation per se. Elinruby (talk) 19:50, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

-
- My translation-improvement effort stops in the section after "side walls" in Archtecture:Exterior. I worked on that section a bit, I think, but there is an incomplete sentence and I do not have time to go research what it is in fact supposed to say. And @Mathglot, thank you for bringing a template to my attention, possibly it does apply and if so I will try to put it on there anon ;) Elinruby (talk)

- Exactly the right way to do it, @Mathglot:. Church articles are really hard, how one does translate virginals for example? It's very hard. Thou art my downsitting and my uprising, it is kinda impossible to translate it properly. I think the difference between the Roman catholic and Protestant traditions makes it harder, too. - Someone seems to have worked on this. I only skimmed superficially but this does not look bad at all. One comment, if someone wants a nice manageable task, is that a lot of the red links for other Canadian musicians do in fact have wikipedia pages on the french wikipedia, so changing these to interlanguage links by adding a language code might make them more likely to un-redify. I may possibly come back to this as I am interested in the Canadian part but it won't be soon so don't let me stop anyone else meanwhile. Elinruby (talk) 21:49, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

This was originally posted in Spanish. I started a translation, and then another editor finished the job, but also removed the sources, which are in Spanish. While restoring the sources (WP:NONENG), I discovered a few missing sentences, so I translated and inserted those, but I also noticed pieces of the translation that needed fixing. I took care of the ones I noticed, but I haven't done a full scan of the article. It will be helpful, of course, if someone with some knowledge of medical terminology has a look through it.
