Please bear with me at times. I've got a couple of disabilities and because of the symptoms I can operate at a low caliber some mornings or even several days. It may take a few times until I get something worded correctly, particularly in informal discussions... but I nearly always get there in the end. Thanks! |

Yesterday I was trying to figure out how to divide the article in sections (i.e. Personal Life, Career, Published Works, etc.). Now I know how you did it - THANK YOU! I'm going to search for a few more references and external links to add to this article, then tackle the photos.

Hi Carole - Been sick with the flu for two weeks, and just getting back to the living though slowly. I reviewed again your last message to me with your suggestions and believe I was able to make some headway, though struggled with coding. If you could review what I've done I would greatly appreciate it. A few things... 1) re Southern Living: I contacted the magazine in order to obtain a reputable citation for the article(s) Dean wrote (and confirm that she wrote them) for the magazine. Hopefully I'll hear back soon. According to Southern Living, my inability to find anything online could be due to the fact that they might've been written too many years ago to find -- but they will look. If they DO NOT find anything, should I remove Southern Living from the article? I'm thinking not entirely since they did interview her just months before she passed away related to her new book. 2) Larry Wells does not have his own website, so I was unclear how to add a citation for him without one. However, I was able to find in the history section of the Yoknapatawpha Press that they indeed started that Press. 3) I believe I made the first paragraph a little more clear re when Dean was born and when her father died. Let me know what you think. Thank you, PenslipsPenslips (talk) 18:48, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
- I'm sorry that you've been sick, Penslips. I see some of the updates and can step in and help a bit with formatting. The best way to start an article is to find sources and build the article from there, rather than the other way around. Yes, you either need to find specific articles from Southern Living or a source that mentions a Southern Living article to include it in the encyclopedia article. I'll pick some sources from the search I mentioned earlier (now in my archived messages), format them as situations, and then get a good start that way. Then, you just need to build the article and tag content from there.--CaroleHenson (talk) 22:32, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
Adoption?
Hey there! I'm a new user and Randykitty said I should take a look at the adoption program. I saw that you share my interest in history and society so I was wondering if it would be easy to lead a nooby like me through the basics and first steps of being a Wikipedian. Spirtzis (talk) 19:46, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- I would be happy to Spirtzis - what are you interested in doing (writing an article, making updates to articles of interest, other)?--CaroleHenson (talk) 19:56, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

- Great, Spirtzis! There are a number of heraldry articles that could use help, if that's of interest. The WikiProject Peerage and Baronetage page has a lot of helpful information and a to-do list. Their talk page is a great place to see how they manage the project and weigh in on discussions. Or, is there something else you would like to work on?--CaroleHenson (talk) 22:44, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
- Hi, Spirtzis. I thought I would check back. Are you still interested in working on some articles? How can I help?--CaroleHenson (talk) 20:56, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
- OMG sorry for not checking back I was really busy :( I was wondering how exactly do I pick an article to edit? Do I just choose one of the available ones? And after that do you know of any good sources or types of sources to get information from to expand/create articles on the Peerages/Baronates of the UK? Spirtzis (talk) 22:00, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Spirtzis, I personally think it's nice to become a member of a Wikipedia:WikiProject, and if peerage interests you,WikiProject Peerage and Baronetage is a good place to start... and I have a couple of additional comments above. They have to do lists on project sites and other helpful information. Your points about selection of sources is an important one - and there's information on the project site about that there. You could ask a question on the talk page about what articles might need work. Folks regularly involved in the project would likely be a help. You could also scan categories, like Category:Peerage of England stubs or another one of Category:Peerage of England stubs.
- I recently created an article for the wife of Thomas Anson, 1st Viscount Anson, and his article was in sad shape so I did a bit of work on it, but it could use expansion.--CaroleHenson (talk) 22:24, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
- Here's the specific link to sources, but I don't use thepeerage.com website and have seen it tagged for a {{better source}}.--CaroleHenson (talk) 22:28, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks! I'll try to get on to work on the peerages. I might pass by your article and see if I can help. Thanks once again :D Spirtzis (talk) 22:28, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi CaroleHenson. I am interested in being adopted by a experienced Wikipedian, and I thought you were the perfect person to partner with! I would like to be your assitance and learn how to use Wikipedia, the templates, and so much more! I am excited to see what you have to offer. Please reply with Agree or

- CaroleHenson I like articles related to Architecture (mainly Skyscrapers), Politics (German and American politics), and History (American 1700-1800s history). Currently. I don't have an article in mind to work on, but I will see if any of my articles I created really need some constructive work. CookieMonster755 (talk) 21:19, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
- CookieMonster755 That sounds good! Have you ever thought of joining and WikiProject, like Wikipedia:WikiProject Architecture, Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places, on of the Wikipedia:WikiProject United States History (which needs members) , or one of the politics projects. I think that can be one of the best ways to become involved and meet like-minded people. They almost always have "to do" or worklists for articles that need to be created or improved. If you identify one, I would be happy to work with you to create or improve an article. Or, of course, if you find one that you've already worked on that you'd like to improve.--CaroleHenson (talk) 21:31, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
- CaroleHenson —— I have joined WikiProject Architecture, but I will join the other groups you suggested. I think that's a great idea, I will look on the project to do list, to see if their is anything I can help with. At this moment, I don't have any articles to work on at the moment, but when I do, I will surely get in touch with you. Thank you so much for being my new Wikipedia Parent!

Hi Carole, I need help with my first article, can you help edit my first article after I publish it? Phd.dr.candidate (talk) 16:41, 9 April 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Carole, I thinking on contributing on the topic on happiness economics. It is a new research area and I see some article that are inaccurate or incomplete, but I do not want my edits to step on other people's toes, so I would like to start a new article and provide references and maybe you can validate and help me refine it. Do I post the article to my sandbox first, or just create it? Also if I post the article to sandbox, can it be viewed by you and others who want to help? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Phd.dr.candidate (talk • contribs) 01:50, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
- Phd.dr.candidate Yes, I see that there is an article Happiness economics. When you say that you want to start a new article - I am a little confused: Are you looking to rewrite the current article - or start a new article with a different title that is related, but not exactly the same, topic?
- If it's to rewrite the article, you could move the current version to your sandbox - and I think it would be wise to mention that you're looking to expand the article (vs. rewrite) and discuss the ways in which you'd like to expand upon the existing article on the article's talk page - and provide the link to the sandbox page. If you contest some of the content, I would open up a conversation on the talk page about the information that you believe should be removed, particularly if the information is cited, - so that others can contribute to the discussion.
- Whether you're creating a new article or modifying an existing article in your sandbox, others can view the work-in-progress - but won't know it's there unless you alert them of it.
- The next step, then is to start working on a list of reliable, secondary sources... and then start to work on the content. Some people start diving into content without having reliable sources first, which makes it harder in the end. It should really be the source info that drives the content.--CaroleHenson (talk) 04:58, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks Carole, it is related article, not same article, but the advise you gave me was valuble, I will write it to my sand box and alert you to it. - Much appreciated!!! Phd.dr.candidate (talk) 06:26, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
- Phd.dr.candidate My pleasure, let me know if I can help.--CaroleHenson (talk) 06:30, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
A new reference tool
Hello Books & Bytes subscribers. There is a new Visual Editor reference feature in development called Citoid. It is designed to "auto-fill" references using a URL or DOI. We would really appreciate you testing whether TWL partners' references work in Citoid. Sharing your results will help the developers fix bugs and improve the system. If you have a few minutes, please visit the testing page for simple instructions on how to try this new tool. Regards, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 19:47, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
Continuing mentoring
Hi Carole, if you're still available, I'd appreciate your help unpacking the discussion that we started here. Please forgive my delay in replying, but I thought it'd be best if I took some time away from Wikipedia to collect my thoughts. I'm striving to be a thoughtful and helpful contributor, and despite being what I thought was rather transparent and considerate, I may have, as you said, unintentionally lost some people right off the bat. Your kind words meant a lot to me, and I'd be grateful for any aid I can get in understanding my place in the community and how to be a better editor. Thanks again. --FacultiesIntact (talk) 21:15, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
- Hi, FacultiesIntact, I would be happy to help out. I wonder if it would be a good idea to start fresh - and take things a step at a time. What do you have in mind to accomplish next? Maybe we can develop a plan together before initiating any steps.--CaroleHenson (talk) 00:24, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Carole, I'm currently working on a few other pages like Peter Hancock, AIG, and Assurant. The edits I'm proposing are, at least in my mind, considerably more minor than the ones on David M. Cote (they're matters of updating infoboxes and an article stub) so perhaps these would be a better place to start? Things I'd like to learn about are how to best present proposed changes as to invite collaboration and focus on content, as well as what my potential options are for when talk pages remain inactive and the article stagnates. Your earlier advice to demarcate proposed edits in collapsible text boxes suggested to me that I should be striving harder to be even more specific about potential changes--in creating a draft in my sandbox, my intent was to stage the changes in the context of what the article looked like when I began, so that they could be read in context, but I'm starting to gather that this might not be the optimal way to go about things. Would it be more prudent to include only the changes in a sandbox? Or should I consider abandoning that practice altogether? Thanks so much again for taking the time to teach me! --FacultiesIntact (talk) 20:07, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
- Hey Carole, hope all is well. I just wanted to let you know I'm pursuing formal mentorship from other users. I hope you're not offended, or think me impatient; the advice you've given me has given me a fresh perspective, and if you wouldn't mind, I would love it if I could still reach out to you in the future. Your level-headed nature is greatly appreciated :) --FacultiesIntact (talk) 22:32, 8 May 2015 (UTC)

Today's articles for improvement
- Hello CaroleHenson:
- This week's voting for TAFI's upcoming weekly collaboration has begun at Week 20 of 2015. Thanks for participating!
Feedback please
Hi Carole, you have such good sense and know how to write a good article that I thought I'd ask for you to look at the Minnehaha Falls article (I mostly wrote the geology section). Looking at the way it is set up, it seems a little topsy turvy to me since the falls is within the park, not the other way around. My best guess is that the article started out that way because locals generally call both the park and the falls "Minnehaha Falls" rather than Minnehaha Park. Anyway, I'd like to get another's opinion as I'm not sure if maybe I'm just being a little too persnickety. What do you think? Is there a way to put the info box at the top as in most articles? Does it matter? Gandydancer (talk) 22:08, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, I agree with you, Gandydancer, it does seem to be backwards. It would seem that there should either be a separate article for Minnehaha Park / Minnehaha Historic District (see this) - or Minnehaha Falls should be a section within the Park article.
- I think the infobox was put down with the Park section, because that's where it's applicable. But if the article moved to Minnehaha Park and reorganized - or created as a new article, then the infobox should be at the top of the article.
- You did a great job on the Geology section. It's very interesting.--CaroleHenson (talk) 00:40, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
-
- Thanks re the geology section though I'm aware that it may be a little difficult to understand for one that has not visited the park...or plans to. I spent many hours below the falls looking at the geological history and picking fossils that had washed down onto the Mississippi River shoreline. I wrote a trail guide using an imaginary journey back through time to the Ordovician period. It ended on the banks of the Mississippi - where many majestic old growth cottonwoods stand - where I was able to refer to the Native American belief that cottonwood trees have a deep spiritual meaning to the First Nation people that lived there. But it was my girlhood in Colorado that first got me so interested in geology. How could it not when I was living right in the heart of such a rich geological area? We went with our dad and mom to old mine dumps looking for specimens, to Ruby Mountain to hunt for "rubies", and to Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument to collect the imprints of leaves and insects.
-
- OK, as for the falls article, I'm glad we agree. They should remain together and I am thinking Minnehaha Park...or are you thinking perhaps "Minnehaha Park / Minnehaha Historic District"? BTW, your link led to another link with info on the Stevens House which contains a lot of very interesting info about how it was moved - I am considering a rewrite which includes some of that information even though it does have its own article. Carole, as inexperienced as I am it would take me many hours to do the changes - could you do it rather quickly? If so I would be glad to do any grunt work like reorganization of the article but I'm not sure how to go about getting the Park stuff moved up to the top. What do you think? Gandydancer (talk) 17:18, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
-
-
- Sure, I would be happy to, Gandydancer. It seems to make sense to make the article Minnehaha Park with a redirect from Minnehaha Historic District and it's second name. Does that work?--CaroleHenson (talk) 22:10, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

- Thanks so much! I'm now going to do a complete article overhaul in an attempt to improve the article. I'll give you a ping if I need more feedback or assistance. It is so good to have run into such a good editor. :) Gandydancer (talk)

Thanks for the Cookies!!
Thank you for the welcome message, and the delicious-looking cookies! I am wondering how you discovered me as a new editor? Am I, along with other new editors, on a list somewhere? I asked a friend of mine who also sometimes works on Wikipedia if she was ever welcomed, and she said no. I think its a great idea. Can I think of you as my go-to editor when I have a question? I have used the "Help me" tag from time to time, but having a personal "trainer" would be more fun and productive, I think. First question: How can I get my signature to be in an interesting font, kind of like yours is on my user talk page? Thanks! Donna Helene (talk) 06:23, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
- Hi, Donna Helene I saw you were a new editor because your name and talk page appeared in red on my watchlist, meaning that there was no user or user talk page for you. If you give me your friend's username, I would be happy to welcome him/her.
- Absolutely, if you have a question, please feel free to contact me. There's also Teahouse where you can post a question and users will also respond to you there. And "Help me" works, too. Of course, as I say, I would be happy to help out.
- Regarding changing your font, you can go to "Preferences" at the top left part of your Wikipedia page. And on the first tab there's a place to enter the formatting for your name. For instance, if you want something like mine, you could copy and paste this: <span style="font-family:Segoe print; color:#CC4E5C; text-shadow:gray 0.2em 0.2em 0.4em;">[[User:Donna Helene|Donna Helene]] [[User talk:Donna Helene|''(talk)'']]</span> into preferences for your signature.
- Then when you type --~~~~ at the end of a message, it will format with the signature from your preferences.--CaroleHenson (talk) 22:19, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
More help with Citrix
Hi Carole, first of all, thanks so much for all your help recently in reviewing my suggestions. I'm afraid that I'm writing with another request for you... I wondered if you would be able to review another new section draft I've prepared for the Citrix article. I left a note on the Talk page a few weeks ago with a link to my draft for the Products section, but have yet to have any response, so I'm reaching out to editors who have worked on the article in the past. If you have time, do you think you might be willing to take a look? Thanks, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 11:57, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

Additional help with Tom Graves?
Hi Carole, thanks so much for your help on Tom Graves last month. I've proposed a few new changes to the article, in a different section than the one you helped me with, and I'm wondering if you could take a look and tell me what you think. The changes are presented here. Let me know if you have any questions. Cheers, WWB Too (Talk · COI) 22:04, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

Mother of May Robson
I am researching the family of Adelaide Fanny Julia Robison the oldest sister of Mary Jeannette Robison (May Robson). Their father was Captain Henry Robison (b. 27 Dec 1810) in Penrith, Cumberland who married Julia Schlesinger at Liverpool in 1847.
Henry Robison was a Captain in the British Merchant navy (not the Royal Navy) and also a Silversmith in Liverpool. He moved from Liverpool to Melbourne with his wife and three children in 1853 and opened a Jewellery shop in Bourke Street, Melbourne. In 1857 he opened a Hotel in Moama, New South Wales. Mary Jennette Robison was born in Moama in 1858. Captain Henry Robison died in Moama in 1860 when Mary was 1y 9m old. Julia married Walter Miller in 1862 and lived in Albury, NSW until about 1866 when the new family moved to Melbourne, VIC and probably lived in the seaside suburb of St Kilda. Sometime between 1870 and 1878 the Miller family, including Mary Robison moved to London.
Mary Robison attended La Sainte Union Catholic School, Highgate Road, London. In the marriage allegation signed by Charles L. Gore in 1875 she gave her Aunt Adelaide's address at Medbourne, Leicestershire claiming that she was 20 years old (she was 17 and he was 19).
Mary Robison's brother, James, lived in San Fransisco from 1895 to his death in 1920. Her mother, Julia, lived there from 1912 to her death in 1914.

2015 GA Cup
![]() Greetings, all! We would like to announce the start of the 2nd GA Cup, a competition that seeks to encourage the reviewing of Good article nominations! Our inaugural competition, which ran from October 2014 to April 2015, was such a resounding success that we'd like to do it again. Currently, there are over 500 GANs ready to be reviewed; competitors in the previous GA Cup reviewed about 570 GAs, so we can again make a huge impact in helping editors improve articles in Wikipedia and decrease the traditionally long queue at GAN. The 2nd GA Cup will begin on July 1, 2015. As last time, five rounds are currently scheduled (which will bring the competition to a close on November 28, 2015), but this may change based on participant numbers. The judges learned a lot during the 1st GA Cup which exposed weaknesses in its system. Using both the feedback from last year's participants and the weaknesses discovered, we've revised the scoring system to make it more fair. The sign-up and submissions process will remain the same. We also are introducing three new judges: 3family6, Jaguar and MrWooHoo. So in total, there will be six judges. We hope this will allow the competition to run more smoothly. Sign-ups for the upcoming competition are currently open and will close on July 15, 2015. Everyone is welcome to join; new and old editors, so sign-up now! If you have any questions, take a look at the FAQ page and/or contact one of the judges. Cheers from 3family6, Dom497, Figureskatingfan, Jaguar and MrWooHoo, and TheQ Editor. |

I've been working with another editor to continue making section-by-section improvements to the Tom Graves article, however this editor has now been off-wiki for a few weeks, after asking me to propose a solution to an issue on the page. The early life of May Robson
I am researching the life of Adelaide Robison, the sister of Mary Jeanette Robison (May Robson). I have established a few facts about her early life which differ from that in most biographical articles and wonder if you are interested in receiving a copy? I could edit your Wiki article but prefer to discuss with you first.
Here is an Excerpt:
In an autobiographical sketch appearing in “The Theatre” magazine of 1907, Mary Robison starts by saying “I was born in the Australian bush.” Mary Robison was born at Moama, New South Wales, Australia on 19 April 1858. Her parents were Henry Robison (1810-1860) from Penrith, Cumberland, England and Julia Schlesinger (1824-1914) from Liverpool, Lancashire, England who were married in Liverpool on 21 October 1847.
Henry Robison was a merchant navy seaman with the Honourable East India Company for 24 years from the age of 19 and received his Master’s Certificate of Service on 21 February 1853. In 1848 he was listed as a Watch & Clock Maker living at Church Street, Liverpool; a Jeweller in 1850; and a Silversmith in 1852. At the census of 1851 Henry, a Jeweller, was visiting his brother, James Robison, Wine Merchant of Newton, Penrith.
Julia was the eldest daughter of Casper Wolfe Schlesinger (c. 1801-) and Adelaide Leman (c. 1804). Casper was listed as a Watch & Clock Maker at Pleasant Street, Liverpool in 1834; a Land & House Agent at Anne Street, 1848; and by 1850 he and his family were resident at Brooklyn City, New York, USA. In 1848 Adelaide and Julia were listed as Artists at Anne Street, Liverpool. At the 1851 census Julia was a Silversmith living at Church Street with their two sons.

Dean
Hi Carole, I'm struggling health wise, but doing the best I can to push forward with this article. Just wanted to touch base with you and see if you are still willing to provide feedback on a couple of things:
1) I removed some publications from the article (and thinking of still removing more) - publications in which Dean wrote articles for. I could not locate any clear citations or links, and since they do not seem to exist anywhere I deemed it best not to include them. 2) After a few minor edits, I submitted the article and am waiting for a response. 3) I received another photo of Dean from her husband, Larry, to use for the article - a non-professional/never published photo. 4) I uploaded the photo, added the file name to the article as I was told it was ok to do so and still work on the article even though it was submitted. I added the link to the article and it appears to have worked, though I'm not sure if the placement is the best choice. 5)I sent Larry a draft of the Declaration of Consent letter for him to complete, with instructions to include the URL of the photo (and jpg attachment as well) and send all via email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org.
Let me know if there are any changes I should make, of what I've done. Also, anything else you think I should do to improve upon the article while I wait for approval of both the article and photo.
Thank you in advance for your assistance, and I hope all is well with you. Nice to have the warm weather back. Best, Penslips ~~Penslips~~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Penslips (talk • contribs) 17:57, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

Elenore Plaisted Abbott
Dear Ms. Henson:
I am the granddaughter of the illustrator Elenore Plaisted Abbott, whose bio I believe you either wrote or contributed to on Wikipedia. I have noticed a few errors in the entry and would like to get them corrected, but am a little daunted by the idea of creating an account, logging in and then trying to deal with code in order to correct them. So I thought I'd contact you as a first step. I would love it if you would reply to my email address, bharvey536@gmail.com, but will check this space periodically to see if you have left a response here.If you don't, I'll try again, creating an account and logging in. 2015 GA Cup - Round 2
![]() Greetings, GA Cup competitors! Wednesday saw the end of Round 1. The Rambling Man, who was eliminated during the first round in our last competition, earned an impressive 513 points, reviewed twice as many articles (26) as any other competitor. It was a tight race for second for first-time competitors BenLinus1214 and Tomandjerry211, who finished second and third with 243 and 224 points, respectively. Close behind was Wugapodes, who earned 205 points. The change in our points system had an impact on scoring. It was easier to earn higher points, although the key to success didn't change from last time, which was choosing articles with older nomination dates. For example, most of the articles The Rambling Man reviewed were worth 18 points in the nomination date category, and he benefited from it. BenLinus1214 reviewed the longest article, A Simple Plan (at 26,536 characters, or 4,477 words), the 1994 film starring Bill Paxton, Billy Bob Thornton, and Bridget Fonda and directed by Sam Raimi, and earned all possible 5 points in that category. After feedback from our participants, the judges slightly changed the rule about review length this time out. Shorter reviews are now allowed, as long as reviewers give nominators an opportunity to address their feedback. Shorter reviews are subject to the judges' discretion; the judges will continue their diligence as we continue the competition. Despite having fewer contestants at the beginning of Round 1 than last time, 132 articles were reviewed, far more than the 117 articles that were reviewed in Round 1 of the inaugural GA Cup. All of us involved should be very proud of what we've accomplished thus far. The judges are certain that Round 2 will be just as successful. 16 contestants have moved onto Round 2 and have been randomly placed in 4 groups of 4, with the top 2 in each pool progressing to Round 3, as well as the top participant ("9th place") of all remaining competitors. Round 2 has already begun and will end on August 29 at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Round 2 and the pools can be found here. Good luck and remember to have fun! Cheers from Dom497, Figureskatingfan, 3family6 and Jaguar, and MrWooHoo. To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletter, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant still competing, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

Lincoln Pioneer Village
Can you help with some identification? I realize you didn't take either of the photos I'm going to discuss, and may never have been to Lincoln Pioneer Village. In your recent Lincoln Pioneer Village article , you used two photos, I'll call them photo 1 and photo 2. Both are identified by the uploaders as Lincoln Pioneer Village.jpg, but I'm not sure about photo 1. Photo 2, by Nyttend, matches google street-view photos of the type of fence around the property, and the chimneys match - partial stone. You have it captioned as "Little Pioneer Village". Why little?
Photo 1, from an inactive user, is a cabin that isn't shown in a list of renovations on [1], though that site is from 2009. The chimney stone is wrong, and the fence is wrong. I don't think it is of Lincoln Pioneer Village. Can you say one way or the other? Thanks. Generic1139 (talk) 20:41, 9 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Generic1139 and Nyttend: Hi, I selected the photos by running this querry on commons. File:Lincoln Pioneer Village.jpg was uploaded by Nyttend - and the other was uploaded by another commons user.
- Regarding the photos themselves, I've pinged Nyttend about the photo they've uploaded... there's a red link for the user page and I cannot find a user talk page for the other user.
- I fixed the caption for one of the images - thanks for the heads up!--CaroleHenson (talk) 23:23, 9 October 2015 (UTC)
- The upper image doesn't look right; I suspect that it's from the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial, across the county from Rockport, which does include simulated (or authentic? I can't remember) log cabins from the early 19th century. In contrast, the site in Rockport was built by one of Roosevelt's Depression-era alphabet soup entities, and its log cabins have a distinctly different appearance, not to mention the fence around the property. Finally, you can see that my photo really is in Rockport from the timestamps alone :-) — File:Mathias Sharp House.jpg was taken eleven minutes before File:Lincoln Pioneer Village.jpg (and File:Carnegie library in Rockport, Indiana.jpg was taken just five minutes before), so it's not possible for this to be anywhere except in Rockport. Nyttend (talk) 00:14, 10 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Nyttend:Yes, photo 1 is Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial/ I'll make the all the necessary corrections. Thanks. Generic1139 (talk) 01:06, 10 October 2015 (UTC)

Elenore Plaisted Abbott response to your message
Dear Carole: Thanks for your message. I accept your revision of my birthdate chance. However, the title of the work in the Brandywine River Museum is completely incorrect on several counts. I don't care how you fix it, but fix it you must. When I first saw the title, I immediately contacted Virginia O'Hare of the Brandywine to explain that the title was incorrect because I was not born until 1936 and Elenore died in 1935. I asked her to send me a scan of the painting so that I could confirm that it was even painted by Elenore, which she did. We had an email correspondence, which I would be happy to share with you, but I guess that can't be done in this format. Here is her first message:
"In 1976 two paintings by Elenore Plaisted Abbott were donated to the collection, of which one was “Portrait of Peggy Harvey and Daughter Bret [sic]” with 1936 as the date. The early paperwork on the donation has this title, which I assume came from the donor, Mrs. William Butler. The painting itself has on the back and undecipherable notation-looks like [B. Molner”] and a child”]. Later, noting the artist died in 1935, and that the painting itself is not dated, we changed the date to “circa 1930.” I assume that whoever entered the information in Wikipedia (and it would not have been museum staff) would have picked up the information from our collection catalogue where the information on the painting was published in 1991. If you were not born until 1936, and this is in fact a portrait of your mother and yourself, Abbott could not be the one who painted it. However, it may be miss-identified, and not you in the picture at all but another mother and child."
When I saw the scan of the painting, I saw that it was signed EPA, so that settled that. However, because of the date problem, it was clearly not a portrait of me and my mother. Ms. O'Hare and I came up with the revision. Feel free to contact her directly at VOhara@brandywine.org. I don't care how you want to handle it but please do not let the title Peggy Abbott Harvey and Daughter Bret (portrait) 1930" stand. It is not a portrait of my mother and me (Brett, not Bret!), but most likely a portrait of someone named Molner and an unidentified child). I would love to either talk with you or continue this conversation by email because this format is frustrating. Whenever I go back to the original Wikipedia entry, I lose my message to you and have to start all over. My email address is bharvey536@gmail.com and my phone number is 718-768-8935. Thanks Brett Harvey Elenoresgranddaughter (talk) 14:59, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Elenoresgranddaughter: - I put the information into a note, with the source of the painting information and the information from the curator and you about the dates and that the painting was likely of another mother and daughter. Hopefully that works out. Thanks so much for helping to square this away!
- I'm not quite sure what's happening with the loss of the drafted message, but it may be that if you open up two windows, one to look at the original Wikipedia entry and another where you type the message, then you can toggle between both without losing your message. I'll send you an email, too.--CaroleHenson (talk) 17:19, 11 October 2015 (UTC)

COSA Wiki page
Hi Carole,
I am volunteering for COSA (Committee on Sustainability Assessment) and have been asked to help update their Wikipedia page. I've read the Talk page to get up to speed with the progress that you and COSAsb made. I'm new to Wikipedia and hope you can help me clarify how to update the page. Once I have the revisions identified and have done my best to ensure they meet Wikipedia's requirements, do I simply use the EditSource tab to edit the article page? Alternatively, is their a pre-publication editing process for content or composition (or both)?
Many thanks in advance for any insight you can share.

2015 GA Cup Wrap-Up
The second-ever GA Cup is now over! The competition officially ended Thursday. Congrats to everyone who participated, and especially to our finalists. The winner of the 2nd GA Cup is Zwerg Nase! He earned 408 points, over 100 points more than he earned in all previous rounds. He tied with our second-place winner, Sturmvogel 66 with 367 points, in number of articles reviewed (24), and they earned almost the same points for reviewing articles that were in the queue the longest (Zwerg with 322, Sturmvogel with 326). Basically, they tied in points, but what made the different for Zwerg was the advantage he had in reviewing longer articles. It seems that the rule change of earning more realistic points for longer articles made a difference. All of our contestants should be proud of the work they were able to accomplish through the GA Cup. Congrats to these worthy opponents! Our third and fourth place winners, Johanna and Tomandjerry211, also ran a close race, with 167 points and 147 points respectfully. We had one withdrawal; we found it interesting that competitors dropped out in Round 2 and 3 as well. One of the original judges and co-creator of this competition, User:Dom497 stepped down as judge during Round 3; as stated previously, we will miss his input and wish him the best. The judges were pleased with our results, even though fewer users competed this time compared to our inaugural competition. We recognize that this might be due to holding the competition during the summer months. We intend on looking more closely when we should conduct this contest, as well as other aspects of the GA Cup. We've set up a feedback page for everyone's input about how we should conduct the contest and what rule changes should be made. If you have any ideas about how we can improve things, please visit it and give us your input. Again, thanks to all and congratulations to our winners! Please stay tuned for the start of GA Cup #3. Cheers from 3family6, Figureskatingfan, Jaguar and MrWooHoo. |

Bot automation at Wikipedia:Today's articles for improvement
Greetings WikiProject TAFI members!
Over the past two weeks, there has been extensive discussion on introducing bot automation to assist with maintenance of the Today's Articles for Improvement project. A bot has now been approved for trial and will carry out the weekly duties. The bots first run will occur around 00:00, 22 November 2015 (UTC) (midnight on Sunday).
If you have been assisting any of the weekly maintenance tasks, please refrain from doing so this week. The bot needs to be tested and proven it can do the job, and it only gets one chance per week. The tasks will include:
- Adding the new scheduled article to Wikipedia talk:Today's articles for improvement and removing the entry from Wikipedia:Articles for improvement
- Set up the schedule pages for the new TAFI, except the adding of an image and caption
- Adding {{TAFI}} to the new article for improvement, remove {{TAFI}} from last week's article and add {{Former TAFI}} to the talk page
- Notify relevant WikiProjects that the new TAFI is within their scope
- Send a mass message to everyone on the notification list of the new TAFI selection
Updating the accomplishments and archiving selections is still done manually, along with daily tasks such as adding approved entries to the articles for improvement page. These will become automated in the near future.
We hope the bot proves to serve well, and by carrying out the routine housekeeping tasks we can boost the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the project. MusikBot thanks you for your service in helping with the weekly tasks in the past, and for your cooperation during this trial period :)

ArbCom elections are now open!
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Image crop / Emanuele Blandamura
Greetings! I noticed that you added the infobox image for Jo Frost, which makes use of WP's cropping function. It looks so nifty, and I haven't seen that done before! With that said, I've tried to crudely emulate the technique for the infobox image at Emanuele Blandamura, but it doesn't look right at all. Was wondering if you could help out by cropping it in a similar way? Mac Dreamstate (talk) 08:26, 29 December 2015 (UTC)

Help with some COI requests?
Hi Carole, I hope this note finds you well. It’s been awhile since I last reached out, but I wondered if you might be able to help me out on the MetLife article? While there have been some positive changes made to the page since I last posted a note to you in June, I’ve had had some difficulty getting editors to discuss the edits being made to the page. Currently, there are some new issues that have been introduced and some outstanding problems I would like to address in the article. In particular, I'm hoping to correct inaccuracies and bring the page inline with Wikipedia’s citation guidelines. I posted a note to the Talk page back in November, to summarize and clarify the outstanding requests, but so far I haven’t had any replies.
I would love your help in reviewing the current issues and my requests if you have some time. I’m watching the Talk page and will gladly respond to any comments or questions there. Many thanks in advance, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 21:40, 6 January 2016 (UTC)

help understand National Trust paintings
There is a set of Paintings by Jane Hawkins - one of Mary Catherine Stanley, Lady Derby and I would be delighted if it was possible to upload them to commons and use them in the articles - but I don't understand the rules about if they are possible to use or not. I noticed you use a National Trust image which you uploaded and thought you might be the person to ask about it? 2016 GA Cup-Round 2
WikiProject Good Articles's 2016 GA Cup - Round 1
Greetings, GA Cup competitors!
Wednesday saw the end of Round 1. Sainsf took out Round 1 with an amazing score of 765. In second place, MPJ-DK earned an astounding 742 points, and in third place, FunkMonk received 610 points.
In Round 1, 206 reviews were completed, more than any other year! At the beginning of March, there were 595 outstanding nominations in the GAN queue; by the end of Round 1, there were 490. We continue to make a difference at GAN and throughout Wikipedia, something we should all be proud of. Thanks to all our competitors for helping to make the GA Cup a continued success, and for your part in helping other editors improve articles. We hope to see all remaining users fighting it out in Round 2 so we can lower the backlog as much as possible.
To qualify for the second round, you needed to make it into the top 16 of participants. Users were placed in 4 random pools of 4. To qualify for Round 3, the top 2 in each pool will progress, and there will also be one wildcard. This means that the participant who comes in 9th place (all pools combined) will also move on. Round 2 will start on April 1 at 0:00:01 UTC and end on April 28 at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Round 2 and the pools can be found here
Also, remember that a major rule change will go into effect starting on April 1, which marks the beginning of Round Two. Round 1 had an issue brought up in the rules, which we are correcting with this clarification. We believe that this change will make the competition more inherently fair. The new rule is: All reviews must give the nominator (or anyone else willing to improve the article) time to address the issues at hand, even if the article would qualify for what is usually called a "quick fail" in GA terms. To avoid further confusion, we have updated the scoring page, replacing the term "quick fail" with the term "fail without granting time for improvements". We expect all reviewers to put a review on hold for seven days in cases such as these as well, in order to apply the same standards to every competitor. The judges will strictly enforce this new rule.
Good luck and have fun!
Cheers from Figureskatingfan, 3family6, Jaguar, MrWooHoo, and Zwerg Nase.
To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletter, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant still competing, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.--MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:38, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

2016 GA Cup-Round 3
WikiProject Good Articles's 2016 GA Cup - Round 3
Hello, GA Cup competitors!
Thursday saw the end of Round 2. Sainsf once again took out Round 2 with an amazing score of 996 (a higher score then he received in Round 1!). In second place, MPJ-DK earned an astounding 541 points, and in third place, Carbrera received 419 points.
In Round 2, 142 reviews were completed! At the beginning of April, there were 486 outstanding nominations in the GAN queue; by the end of Round 1, there were 384. Another demonstrable way in which this competition has made a difference is in the length of time articles languish in the queue. At the beginning of this GA Cup, the longest wait was over 9 months [2]; at the end of Round 2, the longest wait had decreased significantly, to a little over 5 months.[3] It's clear that we continue to make a difference at GAN and throughout Wikipedia, something we should all be proud of. Thanks to all our competitors for helping to make the GA Cup a continued success, and for your part in helping other editors improve articles. We hope to see all remaining users fighting it out in Round 3 so we can keep lowering the backlog as much as possible.
To qualify for the third round, contestants had to earn the two highest scores in each of the four pools in Round 2; plus, one wildcard. We had an unusual occurrence happen in Round 2: because only one contestant submitted reviews in one pool, we selected the contestant with the next highest score to move forward to Round 3. (There will be a rule change for future competitions in case something like this happens again.) For Round 3, users were placed in 3 random pools of 3. To qualify for the Final of the 3rd Annual GA Cup, the top user in each pool will progress, and there will also be one wildcard. This means that the participant who comes in 4th place (all pools combined) will also move on. Round 3 will start on May 1 at 0:00:01 UTC and end on May 29 at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Round 3 and the pools can be found here.
Good luck and have fun!
Cheers from Figureskatingfan, 3family6, Jaguar, MrWooHoo, and Zwerg Nase.
To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletter, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant still competing, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.--MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:22, 3 May 2016 (UTC)
