Assessment | Wikipedia:WikiProject Women scientists/Assessment |
Welcome to WikiProject Women Scientists, a WikiProject dedicated to ensuring quality and coverage of biographies of women scientists. Unfortunately, part of Wikipedia's systemic bias is that women in science are woefully underrepresented. Let's change that!
Contents
How you can help
- Tag the talk pages of relevant articles with the {{WPWS}} banner so they can be automatically added to Category:WikiProject Women scientists (see WikiProject Women scientists/missing from main list)
- Assess already tagged pages. See this page for a prioritized list of unassessed articles.
- Improve categorization of articles (see the category tree).
- Follow recent changes in articles on women scientists and revert any vandalism.
- Choose someone from the list of notable women without articles or the list of highly-cited women scientists without articles and write an article about her.
- Expand a stub article.
- Fix some of the issues in the cleanup listing: Cleanup listing for WikiProject Women scientists
Low-hanging fruit
Here are a few stubs that have plentiful source material for expanding them:
- Lera Boroditsky - UCSD page - "visionary" cognitive scientist; one of my heroes in the "War Against 'Wikipedia is War' Wars" - I removed the flag, and added a bunch of new citations, publications, interviews and other raw materials we can use to make this bio a good one (diff) - Thanks; LeoRomero (talk) 06:37, 6 December 2015 (UTC)
- Gladys Hobby Well-known scientist, multiple bios, including National Women's History Museum, Vassar, New York Times obit
- Ann T. Bowling, equine geneticist, sources for expansion at talk page
- translations of articles about women in other wikipedias
- Laurie Glimcher current dean of Weill Cornell Medicine and future president of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

Since biographies are potentially under the purview of almost all WikiProjects, it is important that we work in tandem with these projects. Also, when seeking collaboration on articles, don't neglect to approach WikiProjects that are part of the geographical region your subject is/was in.
