The Jewish Settlement Police were a division of the Notrim established in the British Mandate of Palestine in 1936. Members, known as Nodedot, were trained by their commander, Yitzhak Sadeh, in the art of unconventional warfare and specialised in mobility and surprise attacks. Their nominal strength in 1946 was estimated to 16 000 men and women. [1]
The Settlement Police cooperated with Charles Orde Wingate, a British officer who strongly supported the Zionist cause, to form a joint British-Jewish unit known as the Special Night Squads. They fought Arab guerillas who were attacking the Iraqi Petroleum Company pipeline.
