Star Names: Their Lore and Meaning
You seem to be a frequent contributor and the creator of this article. I'm concerned that the tone is inappropriate for Wikipedia, and it currently seems to be in violation of WP:SOAP and WP:NEU. There also seems to be no assertion of notability beyond the POV praise within the article. If there's anything you can do to improve on this, especially in terms of providing some citations that demonstrate notability, it would be appreciated. Lucky number 49 17:57, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
- Take a look here and here. Also the article on Canopus and Talk:Alpha Monocerotis. I'm one of many who find it a useful work. It was published more than 100 years ago - to still be in print indicates some quality. I have zero connection with the publishers etc., except I find some of their books useful.--GwydionM 18:48, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
- Whether you yourself find it useful or not, the tone still violates the guidelines at WP:NEU, and if you are basing the statements on your own opinions or conclusions about the topic, that's original research, which is also forbidden. Neither of the links you point to are reliable, one is a personal website, and the other is a page of Amazon reviews. Lucky number 49 19:27, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
- Also, I'm not concerned with whether you have any connection with the publishers. I'm concerned with whether the article has a bias in favor of the subject, which is apparent. Lucky number 49 19:27, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
fog bow
Yes, I also believe that these are 2 of the best fog bow images available at the NET. After all I took them myself. So I nominated one on FP: Here are the responces I've got:#1IMO enc or value of the pic do not increase with the number of phenomena depicted. On the contrary, I'd prefer pictures with one single phenomenon each, that makes it much clearer to see what's described. --Dschwen;#2Oppose Quality is very low, and I don't say why you had to use a focal length of "0mm" to get this - it's distorted the image horribly and it looks like you could have easily got the full bow in with say a 17mm lens --Fir0002 22:08, 24 July 2007 (UTC)#3Oppose per Fir. I agree that a 17mm lens would be plenty wide enough to capture this phenom and would reduce the distorsion significantly. As Dschwen commented on another candidate: "Lack of votes = lack of interest = not an interesting picture = not FP material". I also think that sometimes it is a good thing to not be a subject matter expert when voting on an image. Cacophony 08:00, 25 July 2007 (UTC) As you could see one of the three, who wants images back is user Cacophony , who said "Lack of votes = lack of interest = not an interesting picture = not FP material". So why he wants the images back at the page now? I just do not want to confuse anybody with my "confusing", "low quality" and "not interesting" images. If these unique are rare images are not good to became FP, they for shure is not good to be displayed at such a "reliable" source as Wikipedia is. No responce needed. Regards. --Mbz1 15:52, 28 July 2007 (UTC)Mbz1
Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Li Na (daughter of Mao Zedong)
I noticed you made a comment at the above AFD. I was wondering if you wanted to qualify your "keep" with regards to individual articles. Are all 5 individually notable or do some of them not qualify? I noticed you said the sisters may possibly be deleted. Thanks, Axem Titanium (talk) 22:26, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
- I said 'Keep' for all because all of them may matter as blood-ties, even if personally they were not major figures. --GwydionM (talk) 22:29, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Hi there
Hi, I just read your user page and realized that you are Raymond William's son. What a pleasant surprise! Just wanted to say that I was a great admirer of your dad's in my college years (and remain so, although I don't get much time to read NLR-type criticism). Somewhere, in my book collection, I still have the NLR annuals (and some, I think, edited by your dad). Sorry about the reverts on the Angus Maddison page, which may have stemmed from my frustration over another page. Please go ahead and revert my changes if you so wish. Table and COBOL
Hi, please read the Talk page here about the guidelines for disambiguation pages. Thanks. —johndburger 16:14, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
- I care about contents, not style. What was there before I first changed it was factually wrong: table as array was a major meaning and one I remembered, though I'v enot used COBOl for years. --GwydionM (talk) 17:35, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Finland pamphlet
Nick Cohen has tracked down or borrowed a copy ("I've read it twice", What's Left, 2007, Harper Perennial (pbk), p241). He has referred to this elsewhere also. In What's Left Cohen also cites this blog entry from Oliver Kamm. Philip Cross (talk) 19:38, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

If you are interested in the deletion discussion, please participate by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tek-Tips. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Speedy deletion of Tek-Tips
A tag has been placed on Tek-Tips requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for web content.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. ukexpat (talk) 14:24, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
- Several people have made complete idiots of themselves, deciding that an on-line forum with more than a million members is beneath the dignity of Wikipedians to take notice of. It's not worth arguing about but it shows great narrowness of mind. --GwydionM (talk) 17:08, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for adding the references to the papers; as academics use Wikipedia as a resource it's important to us that we're seen as an academic project as well as an 'outreach' one. Thanks 163.1.19.57 (talk) 14:34, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
Notability of Bill Warren (British Communist)
A tag has been placed on Bill Warren (British Communist) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Theseeker4 (talk) 19:01, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Relevant
Isn't it funny how Wikipedia with articles on every bleeding tv show in existence and long articles on Paris H. can even dare to speak of relevance? But I just wanted to say that I found an interesting book on foreigner sympathisers (Smedley, Snow etc.: Anne-Marie Brady, Making the Foreign Serve China. Managing Foreigners in the People's Republic, 2003. I have just seen the googlebooks version (and very eingeschränkt, but still looks very well done, at least concerning people I know of).--Radh (talk) 21:31, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

File copyright problem with File:Xian Terracotta Excavating.jpg
Thank you for uploading File:Xian Terracotta Excavating.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NW (Talk) 02:46, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of Lathe of Heaven (film)
The article Lathe of Heaven (film) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Article has been a stub for more than two years and hasn't received significant updates in more than six months. Most of the significant information is already listed at The Lathe of Heaven. No analysis or references provided.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Doniago (talk) 14:02, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of The Tolkien Society
A tag has been placed on The Tolkien Society requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guidelines for people and for organizations.

- Someone has been very hasty. The Tolkien Society has existed for years, has several hundred members. Speedy deletion seems a stupid procedure as well. I am not going to waste time arguing if it can be negated so easily.

AfD nomination of Times obituary of Adam Smith
An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Times obituary of Adam Smith. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Times obituary of Adam Smith. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.
Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:08, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
Unreferenced BLPs
Hello GwydionM! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 1,988 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

I think that a certain amount of formula/data calculation
should be outside the category of synthesis in an encyclopedia.

The page is written as a personal book review, e.g. "...has some interesting details on ..." and also has no proper intro duction as an article. This is not appropriate. See WP:SOAP. October 2012
Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles, or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion debates, as you did with Keywords: A Vocabulary of Culture and Society. Otherwise, it may be difficult to create consensus. If you oppose the deletion of an article, please comment at the respective page instead. Thank you. - Sorry, not intentional. Someone else had removed a block of text. --GwydionM (talk) 18:56, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

The City on the Edge of Forever
Just a note that I reverted your edit to The City on the Edge of Forever because it restored text that was added by another user in violation of copyright. DPRoberts534 (talk) 06:27, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
Hope you're onboard and Thanks

Just to say I hope you can get along with the changes to Wiki/GZ. The changes are being encouraged by the Zooniverse admin, otherwise I wouldn't do them. The List does need updating and refs should be added.

OpenStreetMap
Hi Gwydion, I notice on your flickr account that you are taking a lot of photos of the changing urban environment in Coventry. Since moving out of the city I've struggled to get there often enough to keep OpenStreetMap.org up to date in the city centre. OSM.org is best described as the wikipedia of maps. I was wondering whether you would be interested in contributing to OSM? If so we could give you a demo on how to map with OSM. --RobJN (talk) 16:09, 26 July 2014 (UTC)
