I chose my Username after El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, better known as Malcolm X, whose life and words inspire me. I'm not related to or associated with Malik Zulu Shabazz of the so-called New Black Panther Party, except that we both chose our names in honor of El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz. On the other hand, if you've come across Malik Shabazz on an internet forum, that's probably me.
Despite my social and political views, some of which are expressed in my Userboxes, I am committed to maintaining a neutral point of view in the articles I edit. If you think my editing is biased, please .

My wife and I are addicted to cruise vacations. We've had the pleasure of passing through the Panama Canal (twice), crossing the Atlantic, crossing the Equator (three times), the International Date Line (twice), and the Prime Meridian. We also traveled around Cape Horn; I'd like to say that we "rounded the Horn", but any comparison between our our luxurious accommodations and the harsh conditions faced by sailors on traditional sailing ships would make a mockery of that phrase.

This is what you shall do: Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul; and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body.
