Always a pleasure to see editors from outside the WikiProject India circle pitching in to assess articles! Please enjoy this very Indian savoury snack. AshLin (talk) 18:00, 18 March 2012 (UTC) |

Tag and Assess 2012
Hi, with contributors like you, Tag and Assess 2012 has reached mid stage. To speed up the activities, certain special awards have been announced. User:Yuvipanda has created an excellent tool to help editors who are assessing manually. The tool is under Beta release and I request you to please install, use it and give him feedback. Please see the details in https://docs.google.com/document/d/176bySLlr-fRcMYw-h4k-btL5x08qegY7Ipj2DQLHdQE/edit?pli=1. Thanks again for your contribution and wish you continued support to take the drive to completion. Ssriram mt (talk) 22:40, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
Springfield, MA
Yes, "Marksvs88", I was serious when I provided references for factual statements that you removed from the Springfield, MA article. I can kind of see you point to an extent, but each of those statements that you removed are factual and I will find "non-POV" sources. I did leave out other language but left the factual statements.
You obviously are not from around Springfield or work in agriculture because you are not aware that the Connecticut River Valley does indeed contain the most fertile soil in New England and is one of the reasons why it was settled the way it was. That is is a fact.
You obviously are not old enough, or know someone who is, to know that the closing of the armory WAS controversial. Very controversial. There were numerous sources that used the word controversial when speaking of the closing. It's laughable because not mentioning that is doing exactly why you removed the other "promotional" statements.
Are you not aware that basketball is one of the worlds most popular sport? It's not like it's some obscure sport. The fact is that it's one of the worlds most popular sports. Period.
I'd like to add that you seem to make these arbitrary decisions about what is right and wrong and I've seen you swoop into an article and make spurious claims from your opinion alone and then say something like "are you serious" or "lol" or, my favorite, "fail" (as if that's a real term) and only when presented with a preponderance of references do you let it stay. Why can't you do the opposite and when you see something you feel is wrong, do some research? Pickup a book or call and expert and only remove the part that you feel is not correct when you know for sure that it is? Just a suggestion but I see your name all over different pages that I've contributed to and watch (and others) doing the same thing.
So be prepared for these statements to come back once I've found some other references that will meet YOUR criteria and show you that they are indeed, factual.Dbroer (talk) 10:25, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Dbroer,
- First of all, I wish to apologize for the tone of my edit summary. I just re-read it and it was needlessly harsh. I was upset about something else (offline) and it got in the way of my editing. I am sorry.
- Okay, as to the edits... please note that at no time I removed anything germane to Springfield. However, this article is particularly beset by wp:puffery and wp:peacock terms. The only reason I edit it is because the Knowledge Corridor editor(s) were so invasive that I had to do a huge cleanup on the Hartford and New Haven articles just so that they wouldn't read like subs of the Knowlege Corridor! (That, and the Bradley Airport verbage was absurd.)
- Basketball: yes, but it's dwarfed by football (soccer), and perhaps by cricket, tennis and motorsport depending on who you ask. Heck... according to this, basketball is 9th! [1]. If someone wants to read up on basketball, it's linked. Should we add under "Springfield tornado of June 1, 2011" that "tornados are the second least common cause of natural death in MA after earthquake"? No. Because the article is about Springfield. I'm not disputing that it's not popular, I'm saying it's common knowledge.
- "Most fertile soil":... is IMO a literary device. The book in question ("Cultivating a Past") is a history of Hadley, MA and does not appear to be an authoritative work on farming conditions. They did certainly did not do a soil analysis of every town on the river, much less in New England. Is the land in Springfield more fertile in Portland/Middletown CT? I don't know. For what crops are the conditions "most fertile"? (For example, beets and onions like very different soil conditions.) Also, I can't actually read the book online and the webpage cited does not actually substantiate the claim as it says "some", not "the most".
- Springfield Armory: Well, yes... you are correct. Even though I'm closing in on 40 I wasn't around when they closed the armory. And you know what? It probably was controvertial to some people. On the other hand, I'm sure others rejoiced. My point here was that one word ("controvertial") is an opinion. But I get your point, and I can certainly live with it being re-included if you can find a good third party souce calling it controvertial. I'm sure the Boston Globe or Herald or the Hartford Courant or NYT will yield something. (I'm against using the current source as according to the Credits section on [2] the site specifically states it is promotional for the Commonwealth.)
- Again, I am sorry for the tone of my edit summary on the page, and I hope you will please accept my apology as it is sincere. Best, Markvs88 (talk) 13:28, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
-
- Hi Marksv88,
-
- I appreciate you candor and reply. I do see your point regarding the statement about basketball. The particular sentence was about the nickname "hoop city" and I think it begs for an explaination as to why beyond basketball being invented here. That being said, I'll go ahead and remove that to try and clean-up some of the puffery as you put it as it really doesn't need to be there.
-
- I found another text from Yale University Press that specifically mentions that Springfield was settled because of it's fertile soil but I did specify that it was "some of the most fertitle" because as you mentioned, some crops require different soil types.
-
- In terms of the Armory, I don't have access to some of the archived newspaper articles that google[3] has over the controversy, but several do mention the controversy. Is it acceptable to link to the search?
-
-
- Hi again Dbroer,
-
-
-
- Re: Basketball & Soil: thanks and I appreciate your willingness to discuss it, too.
- Eek. I see what you mean about "Pay per view"! I did a little poking around though and found these free sources, wdyt? (Okay NYT isn't free, but I think we can safely cite is given what they have posted in the synopsis). [4], [5], [6]
- Thank you, I really do feel badly about that edit summary. Absolutely! Best, Markvs88 (talk) 15:19, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Pomperaug High School
The "Uncited championships" can be seen on the link...All I did was take what was written on the Pomperaug Athletics Website. — Preceding unsigned comment added by XxStateOfThe203xX (talk • contribs) 02:17, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
I cited the Championships and I made a slight correction of the order. Having the Sexual assault scandel be one of the first things coming up is a shame, Its still available and i made no corrections to it, I just moved in downward, but the Athletics is correct. I placed the link to the website and everything. I'm new to the whole citing thing, so my appologizes if I cited wrong. Also, I didn't delete the scandel on purpose. I just didn't know how to work the editing. My appologizes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by XxStateOfThe203xX (talk • contribs) 02:27, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
- No worries, and thanks for the citation! If you have any questions about editing or have any problems, please feel free to ask them here. Best, Markvs88 (talk) 02:30, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
Gerber Scientific
Can you please explain why you deleted the edits to the Gerber Scientific page that the last writer provided? That information was actually correct and your edits have made the post non factual. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.248.171.250 (talk) 18:07, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
- Hi there! Sure... I reverted your edit because it was unsourced. Anything that's uncited can be deleted from Wikipedia at any time. As the edit concerned a buyout & acquisition (which are notable), SOP is to revert (rather than even putting a citation needed tag on it), as it could be libelous or a rumor. I'm happy to discuss this further if you like. Best, Markvs88 (talk) 18:48, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Adam Blakeman
I'm active on werelate.org but not in wikipedia. I'm wondering what the logic was for undoing the 22 January 2012 edits on the Adam Blakeman page without further comment. The baptismal dates for the three sons are apparently accurate as they were so stated in a 2003 Leslie Mahler article in The American Genealogist (78:185). I can't comment (yet) on the other changes which were reverted, but I do know that there is further scholarship on Rev. Blakeman in a 2006 article, also in TAG, to which I do not have immediate access. Thanks.--Wcarr1 (talk) 21:02, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Better source request for File:GrotonCTflagTOWN.PNG
Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:
You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Message delivered by Theo's Little Bot (opt-out) 21:21, 21 April 2013 (UTC)

WikiProject Poland Newsletter • January 2014 • Issue II
For our freedom and yours Welcome to the second issue of WikiProject Poland newsletter, the Monitor (named after the first Polish newspaper). Our Project has been operational since 1 June, 2005, and also serves as the Poland-related Wikipedia notice board. I highly recommend watchlisting the Wikipedia:WikiProject Poland page, so you can be aware of the ongoing discussions. We hope you will join us in them, if you haven't done so already! Unlike many other WikiProjects, we are quite active; we get close to a hundred discussion threads each year and we do a pretty good job at answering all issues raised. Last year we were featured in the Signpost, and our interviewer was amazed at our activity. In the end, however, even as active as we are, we are just a tiny group - you can easily become one of our core members! In addition to a lively encyclopedic, Poland-related, English-language discussion forum, we have numerous useful tools that can be of use to you - and that you could help us maintain and develop:
This is not all; on our page you can find a list of useful templates (including userboxes), awards and other tools!
It took me three years to finish this issue. Feel free to help out getting the next one before 2017 by being more active in WikiProject management :) You have received this newsletter because you are listed as a member at WikiProject Poland. |
