- For completeness, I will document this here: the article in question (International Trade Centre) was changed to use a SVG logo in place of this PNG version. Not sure why, but we don't need both so I am happy for this one to be deleted.--Gronk Oz (talk) 02:18, 28 November 2018 (UTC)

I appreciated your patient and tactful explanation of notability and creating new articles on the Teahouse page. Schazjmd (talk) 22:54, 22 December 2018 (UTC) |
Nice user page
Hi! I just dropped by to compliment you on a beautifully presented user page, and I hope you don't mind if I pinch some of your ideas for useful links and also layout ideas? (I really need to spend a bit of time on learning those tips of the trade, having spent most of my time on content and citations so far.) Laterthanyouthink (talk) 00:51, 31 January 2019 (UTC)
- @Laterthanyouthink: thanks for taking the trouble to mention it! I stole most of my content from other places, so please feel free to grab anything you like. --Gronk Oz (talk) 02:46, 31 January 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks, @Gronk Oz:! (As soon as I've finished my current bout of fingers in various pies, I'll get around to it...) Laterthanyouthink (talk) 05:03, 31 January 2019 (UTC)

Gronk Oz: I am battle weary on this one. I would appreciate some help adding a new citation and the reference for it!ConsumerWithSpasmodicDysphonia (talk) 02:36, 13 March 2019 (UTC)
Here is the entry I'm editing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spasmodic_dysphonia
Here is the text I wish to reference:
Dr. Herbert H. Dedo was the first to utilize this approach.
Here is the citation:
H. Dedo, Herbert & Behlau, Mara. (1991). Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve Section for Spastic Dysphonia: 5- to 14-Year Preliminary Results in the First 300 Patients. The Annals of otology, rhinology, and laryngology. 100. 274-9. 10.1177/000348949110000403. ConsumerWithSpasmodicDysphonia (talk) 02:36, 13 March 2019 (UTC)
- Hi, @ConsumerWithSpasmodicDysphonia: references can be trickier than they first seem. We'll get it sorted out. The first thing I notice is that reference 45 appears to be exactly what you describe above. So far so good. Then I noticed that it is identical to ref 46 (I just noticed because it immediately follows it) so what we really want to have is one citation, referenced at two places in the article.
Done Looking at the code, that reference was defined where you indicate, and also at the end of the one-line History section. The second version had slightly more information, e.g. both authors, so I decided to keep that one. I named it by changing the ref to "<ref name=Dedo1991>". Then I changed the other one (as you describe above) to use that named reference, i.e. ""<ref name=Dedo1991/>" (note the / at the end to indicate there is nothing more to come). I don't know if that description makes sense - it might be easier to look at the actual code. Anyway, please feel free to get back in touch if you have questions, or if I'm not available the good folks at the Teahouse are always willing to help. --Gronk Oz (talk) 03:58, 13 March 2019 (UTC)
- @ConsumerWithSpasmodicDysphonia: AARGH - Three times I have made those changes now, and every time they get rejected because you are editing the article at the same time. Let me know when you're done so I can change it. --Gronk Oz (talk) 04:07, 13 March 2019 (UTC)
- @ConsumerWithSpasmodicDysphonia: Such edit clashes are one of the challenges of using Wikipedia. There was a break in editing, so I had another go at it. I see that you have moved that sentence into History now, immediately after that reference is already used. Not sure if that was just to get around the problem, or if it's what you really wanted. In the interim, I have made the changes above although they look peculiar now because Ref. 45 is used twice, but they are on successive sentences in the same paragraph. So if you leave everything in its current place, you probably don't need both references. However, if you move one back where it was then you can take the ref with it, and it should work fine. --Gronk Oz (talk) 04:34, 13 March 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for the help with references
Gronk Oz - I didn't realize you were trying to edit the actual entry; assumed that you would try to teach me how to do it. Anyway, your suggestions were good and I have learned a lot tonight. I hope I didn't go back in and "fix" it again before I saw them! I will check again tomorrow after coffee. I appreciate the advice. Good night! - It's all good - see my comments above about what I have done. --Gronk Oz (talk) 04:41, 13 March 2019 (UTC)
