DYK for Wilson's Allen
Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 12:02, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
There were over 2700 views of that article yesterday when it was in the DYK section - congratulations White Arabian Filly! --Gronk Oz (talk) 03:30, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks, Gronk Oz! It was a real thrill seeing it there, and I have saved the link to the permanent revision of the main page. I also put another article up for DYK--The Talk of the Town (horse), who was a grandson of Wilson's Allen. We'll see how it goes... 😊White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 15:58, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
- I thought you swore you would never do that again... I understand both the frustration and the thrill. Good luck!--Gronk Oz (talk) 16:19, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
- Most of the aggravation came from the fact that my phone was having trouble loading the main DYK page the first time. It didn't yesterday, although it is annoying because it takes forever to get to the bottom of the page. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 16:27, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi, White Arabian Filly. Could you undo this edit of mine and put in either a green or blue checkmark, please? I'm too lazy to think and decide which colour would be appropriate. Thanks. Happy editing. Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 02:08, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
- Never mind. You're typing faster than me. --PFHLai (talk) 02:09, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
- That's OK, PFHLai. This is my first time reviewing a DYK nom for somebody, and only my second time nominating an article. I realized that I needed to put the little check mark up after I reviewed the hook, so I went back and fixed it. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 02:57, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
Project tip
Don't double-post race horse articles to WPEQ; there are nearly 10,000 horse racing articles in the horse racing project and as a rule we put articles into either WPEQ or WP Horse racing, but not both. There are a few exceptions (notably Equine drug testing) but not many (not even Darley Arabian, lol). It's mostly a maintenance issue; we don't have enough horses to really manage the 3000+ articles in WPEQ as it is... ;-) (and most of us horsey fools are members of both projects anyway...) Montanabw(talk) 19:51, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
- OK, I won't do it again. I guess it's also something of an interest thing: a lot of people who watch horse racing don't even have horses, they just like it. I've never actually seen a live race in my life (I've lived in the same state all my life, and as far as I know we don't have a single racetrack). I do try to watch them on TV, but it's hard to find any except for the Triple Crown and Breeder's Cup, and a few of the summer races at Saratoga, unless you pay extra for cable channels! (Which I don't, because I don't have time to watch most of it and sometimes you can find the stuff on YouTube anyway.) White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 20:40, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
- I agree, absent premium channels, NBC and FOX sports are it. If you live in the south, your closest tracks are probably Oaklawn Park and Gulfstream Park -- and of course, anything in Kentucky! But horse racing is only legal in 36 states, I think (Georgia is trying to legalize it, but so far without success). I've had good fortune that it's legal in Montana, even if the races are at the "weekend at the county fair" level. We do get some interesting horses up here from time to time, there was a gelding who was a son of Giant's Causeway running here last year and a daughter of Scat Daddy the year before. But FYI, all the California tracks have a live feed here (wink) and it's totally free ( I use a free spam-receiving email address to access it ) . Montanabw(talk) 23:57, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

- Ok, thanks! I don't know if I can skim the picture (I can't figure out any way except to copy-paste it and the phone won't let me copy just one thing; I have to copy EVERYTHING on a page) but I will definitely use it as a source. I'd like to get some of the articles to GA, but I've had TWHNC up for peer review for over 2 weeks and no takers...😑 even though I PR'd 3 other articles and more or less suggested to two of the people that they consider doing mine. I have found a lot of good stuff on Google books as well, there's a book called Horse Breeding in Middle Tennessee that has really good stuff too. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 12 South African Infantry Battalion, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Equestrian (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). autopatrolled permission
Hi White Arabian Filly, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the patroller right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Katietalk 15:18, 21 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi there. I have joined Wikipedia to correct the horrific edits that this carmakita1010 has made to Carsen Grays Wikipedia write up. It's been axed so terribly it is nowhere close to the original write up. Is it possible to post the original write up?...
Mamafixit Mamafixit (talk) 18:20, 24 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Mamafixit, the only way I know of to correct the vandalism and bad editing is to go through the page history and find a place where the article was correct. Then you can get somebody with rollback rights to rollback all the bad edits. (I don't have rollback: it's a right given only to users who have demonstrated that they remove a lot of vandalism and are not going to go around removing edits they disagree with but are perfectly good.) To do that, you may have to ask at the Teahouse. Or you can simply rewrite the article yourself. Carsen Gray is a living person (see WP:BLP) so we have to use special consideration when adding things to her article. In BLPs, you can't say something controversial without having a reliable source to back it up. The best place on the internet to find reliable stuff is on Google books or news; most of what is on there is good. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 20:44, 24 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi White Arabian Filly,
First, let me compliment you on your choice of horses! I myself have a black Arabian filly (well, mare). As I mentioned in an earlier post, this is my first Wikipedia edit so I'm sure I'm not getting it done as well as an experienced Wikipedia-er (Wikipedia-ite? ... or ...?). It's been a frustrating experience.
So far, I've donated several hours adding to the page -- only to have just about every last shred of it deleted en masse. (I reread my earlier material and I agree that some of it may have inadvertently reflected my strong pro-PHN sentiment but that was maybe 10% that could easily have been *edited* out.) A host of relevant information was swept up in that purge.
I was apparently accused of copyright infringement, which is absurd, given that I was typing the material in without the use of anything but what was in my head (and only the most basic elements of it at that). And, no, that doesn't make it original research, just a condensation of the basics of PNH.
I was accused of edit warring or something like that for reverting others' changes. I didn't do that, either -- not even once, let alone three times.
Finally, there is one bland laudatory sentence that's so far been permitted. That is then followed by seven *paragraphs* of assorted unpleasantness.
In short, in its attempt not to be an "advertisement," -- and, thus, deleting almost everything positive -- the page has devolved into mostly a smear piece. And...you probably know this...there are tens if not hundreds of thousands of PNH students who *adore* the program. I am one of them.
So, where's the balance?
Anyway, please do not take this small rant to be directed at you. I sincerely appreciate that you took the time to answer my questions earlier. I see that you've made some modifications, too, although I still haven't quite figured out how to follow who changed what and why. But I have so far found this experience to be nothing but throwing my effort -- based on a decade of serious study of PNH -- down the drain.
JackieLL007 (talk) 17:25, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
(talk page stalker)I think it's best we all discuss your editing at your talk page, Jackie, there are rules for editing wikipedia and the Five pillars are the starting point; they are the absolute gotta-follow rules, the most relevant of which is neutral point of view and to not violate copyright. Summerfield Johnston, Jr.
Hello. Thank you for paying attention to Summerfield Johnston, Jr.. Could you please remove the unreferenced info which User:Rickylido added twice? I removed it twice and don't want to do it a third time to stay on the safe side. I left a note on their talkpage, but they ignored it. I think this requires a bold edit, removing the alleged first wife and daughter. If he or you can find a reference for it, that's fine, but I am concerned that this may be a total lie. Better stick to the references.Zigzig20s (talk) 21:12, 3 January 2016 (UTC)
- Zigzig20s I'll go do it now. I don't know if there's any reference for that but I can look later on Google Books or news. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 21:15, 3 January 2016 (UTC)
Clarence Scharbauer, Jr.
Hi again. Would you be interested in helping me work on an article about Clarence Scharbauer, Jr., horsebreeder and son of rancher Clarence Scharbauer please? - Feel free to create an article about Turner if you can find enough references. Btw, Valor Farm might be notable. Not only for its abundance of oil (see his article), but also this. Citations
Only recently (after YEARS of editing Wikipedia) have I realized that using the "citation templates" in the corner makes it much easier to reference everything. It also removes bare URLs right away. It saves a lot of time, rather than changing the references later. Why aren't you doing it?Zigzig20s (talk) 20:12, 4 January 2016 (UTC)
- On mobile view it's not there, and I have trouble seeing the typewriterish font on desktop where it is, especially on a small phone screen. I will go back and refill the refs later; sometimes I'm in a hurry and it's easier to fill in the template later than to not use the refs and get yelled at for not using refs! White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 20:19, 4 January 2016 (UTC)
-
- @Zigzig20s: for someone like WAF, an even better option is to insert bare URLs between ref tags and then run reFill, which does the cite template for us: OR any of us can if she sets it up that way. If you do any formatting at all, reFill doesn't work properly. I even use it and I can access the citation templates; when I'm creating an article with a lot of refs, it's much faster (though using the templates is often better when I am adding a single new source to an article that needs a specific format. Did a fast stub creation for Clinton Anderson (horse trainer) to keep a disambiguation page in place instead of fighting redirects to that of a dead politician. But it's a stub and I don't really have the time/energy/interest to really flesh it out... do you want to dig up a couple sources and a wee more text just to make it a good anchor? - WAF can edit all she wants, Lynn, she has earned my trust and respect; I am proud to collaborate with her and she is doing a great job of becoming a wikipedian. It's you that has not learned about collaboration and sourcing on wikipedia. Your POV-pushing is a serious problem, and your penchant for poor research and inadequate sourcing has even been criticized over at wikipediocracy, which takes some doing. Eek!
Whilst dealing with the drama-o-rama at Equine assisted therapy, I found this photo: File:Hipoooooooooo.jpg. Oh dear; what could POSSIBLY go wrong here? EEK! Montanabw(talk) 06:52, 16 January 2016 (UTC)
- Looks like they could use one of these. My first trainer had one he kept as a curiosity, but I can see where it could be really handy for therapy purposes. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 19:06, 16 January 2016 (UTC)
- Ouch! My horse's back hurts just looking at that! (Actually, PATH has banned riding double at their centers for safety reasons). Montanabw(talk) 03:23, 18 January 2016 (UTC)
- Ha, my horse would probably faint and keel over the second it was placed on him! He thinks it's funny to heave a huge sigh every time I get off him, like I'm squishing him to death. (I weigh several pounds LESS than I'm supposed to--from sweating it off taking care of him and the rest of the critters when it's 95 degrees in the summer, no doubt.) JMO - GA
Just my opinion, but I think you should consider taking the best of your TWN foundation sire articles (perhaps Midnight Sun) to GA. Still needs some work, and I can help you with stuff your phone editing can't do (just ask me or ask at the article talk page) but I think they are really quite close. User:Ealdgyth has several Quarter Horse "biographies" at GA and FA-class, and you can use some of hers as a good guide (example of GA ones: Poco Pine, Garrett's Miss Pawhuska). The trickiest thing you will be up against is using as few non-commercial sources as possible. (The registry is usually a decent RS for individual animal history; if you go far enough back, we can use stuff from the Hathi Trust as sources.) Montanabw(talk) 23:05, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
- Ha, thanks, I was considering asking that (especially about Midnight Sun, since he's still revered as a sire and show horse)! I can probably find a little more from Hathi and others to expand the article first though. 😊 I was thinking about it last night when I was adding to it... Thanks
Hey White Arabian, thanks for inviting me to the horse equine! I have been studying horses for like, all my life and have played a horse game for 2 years!
- You're welcome, Horsegeek. If you want to start editing a lot of horse articles you can look at the WP:WikiProject Equine/Assessment page. Anything that is start or stub class can be expanded and lots of them need copy-editing to make them more readable. On articles that have reached good or featured status you can propose changes on the talk pages first. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 21:54, 24 January 2016 (UTC)
References
So, what is a reference in general?
Horsegeek (talk) 23:22, 24 January 2016 (UTC)HorsegeekHorsegeek (talk) 23:22, 24 January 2016 (UTC)
- A reference is a specific part/page/section of a book, website, newspaper, magazine or other kind of publication that you use to back up what you write in an article here. All content is supposed to be referenced and unreferenced stuff can be removed at any time. References should also be fairly reliable in nature; i.e., no tabloids or self-published books, but mainstream newspapers and books put out by real publishers. For websites, those like magazine sites tend to be good, but forums or user-generated sites are typically not acceptable. There are cite templates that come up on the bottom of the edit windows you can use, or you can use the bare url between ref tags like this: <ref>www.website.com/pagename</ref>. Always be careful to write new content in your own words, though, and not copy word for word from a source. People who copy-paste stuff tend to be dealt with very roughly, since that's almost always a copyright violation. The exception is short quotes and stuff that's so old it's in the public domain. There's a whole instruction page here. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 00:29, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

Refill?
Have you tried to see if you can run reFill from your mobile? It would be cool if you can, because it will do up the citation templates for many (though not all) raw URLs. Even those of us who don't edit from a phone often just do raw urls and then run reFill on them. (As you may have noticed) Montanabw(talk) 23:10, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
- I tried and it wouldn't even come up. I can remember the cite web template and type it in from memory, but I can't remember the cite book and other templates. My phone is weird. 😛 White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 00:07, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
- Hm. You might make a note of that at User:Zhaofeng Li/reFill, if they don't have advice on how you can make it load, then it's a glitch they should fix; many people edit via mobile phones and the templates are a total PITA without access to either the citation templates or some form of automation. Montanabw(talk) 01:10, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
- It worked just then! I filled in the refs on a draft in case it went wrong, but it worked. No idea why it wouldn't earlier, but it did just now. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 02:08, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

References
Okay, I know what a reference is, I just don't know how to make one.
Horsegeek (talk) 00:57, 2 February 2016 (UTC)Horsegeek
- @Horsegeek:, you can copy paste the url from whatever web page you are citing into the article just after the text you are using the ref to back up. Then you can use ref tags on either end of it like this: <ref></ref>. That'll make the ref automatically appear in the ref section. Or you can use the cite templates and fill them in. Or you can use bare urls within ref tags and then run reFill (see section immediately above this one). Either way will make a ref. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 01:22, 2 February 2016 (UTC)

Uh-oh
Okay, could you help me with my references on my draft? Something went wrong... Horsegeek (talk) 00:02, 3 February 2016 (UTC)Horsegeek
- I think I fixed it. You had accidentally left off the closing tag on the ref and that makes the list come up randomly. I've done it before too. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 01:25, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
OMG ROFL
I knew this lady, but never knew she was once Miss Montana and rode her horse in the talent competition! [3]. Think that's notable enough for a WP article? Montanabw(talk)|GO THUNDER! 06:03, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
- I think she safely meets notability. Ha, I had no idea they ever had used animals in talent competitions like that. Neat person! (By the way, I'm rooting for the Broncos too. I hope they have the live Thunder at the game. I can't wait to see Budweiser's ad this year either.) White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 15:58, 3 February 2016 (UTC)

Naborr
Hi! I saw that you wanted to make an article about the Naborr. It's a type of Arabian right? I would be delighted to help you work on it if you would let me.
Horsegeek (talk) 03:21, 9 February 2016 (UTC)Horsegeek
- Sure, I'd be fine with you helping me on it. (He was a specific Arabian horse, not a type.) I started it as a draft so we can work on it together and then move it whenever it's ready. I don't really like articles for creation and don't use it. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 16:33, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

- I've never seen any famous Arabians (not enough of them where I live) but I live a few miles from a brother of I Am Jose and I once RODE a daughter of Smart Little Lena. Famous horse encounters are more fun than famous people encounters. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 02:20, 11 February 2016 (UTC)

Spirit Animals
I am writing a new draft about a book called Spirit Animals (more info later...) :) Horsegeek(talk) 00:10, 12 February 2016 (UTC)Horsegeek
Is it interesting? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kimono111 (talk • contribs) 00:16, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
- I'll check over and look at it later. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 00:20, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
Okay, Spirit Animals is a book about special people that get to have lifelong animal companions if they are lucky. I would love a horse spirit animal. Wouldn't you? Horsegeek(talk) 03:34, 12 February 2016 (UTC)Horsegeek
- Yeah, that'd be cool. I went on the Scholastic site and read about them. Too bad they weren't out there when I was a kid, but I loved (still do) Hank the Cowdog. It's about a dog that lives on a working ranch in Texas and is written by a real cowboy. I only found out recently that he is still alive and still writing new books in the series. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 16:50, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
Editor
Can I be registered editor or novice editor then?
- You already are a registered editor. All you have to do for that is make an account, and you already have. You may or may not qualify for novice, depending on how long you've been here, but you're registered. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 00:22, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
Articles
Do you think there are any good horse articles I could create or anything for the time being? Horsegeek(talk) 22:09, 12 February 2016 (UTC)Horsegeek
- I think there are a lot of sport horses, like Olympic jumping horses, that are redlinked as needing articles. You can create them in userspace or in article space. Any horse that went to that level should definitely have sources online and probably meets notability. I don't have the links right here but you can look at Category:Equestrian biography stubs (unlinked as it won't appear in the message, but if you search it'll come up) and any horse names that are redlinked probably need articles. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 22:15, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
-
- Tons of horses (and some riders) are at List of Olympic medalists in equestrian. Many don't have articles. Most of ones that do are linked already, and those you could look at to see if they can be expanded or otherwise improved. The ones not linked, you can search to see if an article has been created, and if it has, link to it, if not create the article if it can be established that the horse has notability beyond just his rider (for example, a stallion with a career at stud, or a horse that won multiple times). (someone made an editorial decision long ago not to do a lot of redlinks on the list, so we should respect that, it's a featured list). Just looking at the list, maybe Ulla Salzgeber's horse Rusty might be one; medaled in two Olympiads (There's quite a bit about him in Salzgeber's article, probably could spin off without too much trouble). I remember Flim Flam was pretty famous in his day too. Just some ideas Montanabw(talk) 23:46, 12 February 2016 (UTC)

- I think Flim Flam was made a Breyer horse too. I remember him. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 00:16, 13 February 2016 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Naborr
Hello! Your submission of Naborr at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! SusunW (talk) 19:09, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
Userboxen
I'm fiddling with the formatting of your userboxes, revert if you want, but big one sometimes don't fit into a pile neatly (like here: [5]) . Montanabw(talk) 20:34, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
- OK. On the Saddlebred and Quarter Horse ones, the upright pics were the best ones I could find that looked like the breeds and didn't include a horse with five miles of space around it. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 21:06, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
- Yeah, that part is fine, they are just big/taller than usual ... userboxes aren't 100% uniform, but they tend to be pretty similar in size (particularly for those of us who stack up a ton of them) uniformity really helps! Montanabw(talk) 08:41, 18 February 2016 (UTC)
Flim Flam
Could you and Montanabw help me with the article, Flim Flam? User:Horsegeek/Flim Flam Horsegeek(talk) 03:44, 16 February 2016 (UTC)Horsegeek
- Sure, I'll help White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 20:47, 16 February 2016 (UTC)
Another project
Just created Five-gaited today. I'd love help wikilinking it in other articles, and finding sources on breeds that can do five gaits besides Saddlebreds and Icelandics. Anything that sounds fun, go for it! Montanabw(talk) 07:12, 18 February 2016 (UTC)
- Well, this is perfect. I just created Harlem Globetrotter (horse) and am working on one about the mare that matched Wing Commander's six world's grand championships. I'll look around and do dome linking. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 16:05, 18 February 2016 (UTC)

Wiki Honeymoon?
Man, getting trolled by that person who never read WP:LEAD and getting the Nikki treatment all on the same article in the same time period! Hugs, dearie! (Nikki is not a troll, she's a very experienced user, but quite a fussy one...who sometimes forgets that consensus can change... ;-) She and I have argued over infoboxes for years... ) Your wikipedia honeymoon is officially over, but welcome to the rest of the wiki! (I'll be "celebrating" my 10th wiki-versary in about a month, so don't let the difficult stuff drag you down!) Montanabw(talk) 06:44, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
- At least there was an RS for the birthdate... the lead thing is what shocked me, enough to make that post at the Village Pump, because I saw that this person had been reviewing GAs! Who knows what they were telling the people whose articles they were reviewing?! I doubt they even bothered to read anything beyond the lead of the article, because if they had they'd have surely noticed that everything was sourced. And how they could have been here for a year and not know that policy... White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 21:29, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
- This is what we call a troll. Living under bridges and eating unsuspecting travelers, you don't learn a lot about the MOS or WP policies... /snark. Montanabw(talk)

- NIkki is basically a good sort at heart, she just believes that the rules are the rules are the rules, and sometimes I get annoyed at her. But she reviews every single FAC out there (and I have Thunder (mascot) upright now) and has always eventually passed all of mine. The other editor, that "lede troll" guy is heading for a block if he keeps gaming the system (see WP:NOTHERE), and if he bugs you, just ping me and as soon as I am online, I'll show him the fast track to a smackdown. Montanabw(talk)

Apparently he annoyed a couple of admins and they warned him. He doesn't seem to have a great grasp of English either, he told one person their article needed to be "more neutraller". He is now undergoing mentoring on the GA talk page, thankfully. In the meantime, I'm hoping to get a reviewer for Black Allan. White Arabian Filly Neigh 01:11, 27 February 2016 (UTC)
- By the way, thanks for tossing that troll on my page. It turned out to be this sockdrawer, who seems to have created over separate accounts this February. Sigh... FWIW, I've seen wiki get kind of nuts every February/March; must be cabin fever or something. Usually about mid-April it settles down. Montanabw(talk) 01:13, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
- Nooo, not them! I've seen the archives of the trouble they've caused before on some of the horse and rodeo articles. It was a pleasure to toss them! White Arabian Filly Neigh 01:41, 28 February 2016 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for February 28
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Dennis Ferguson (Tennessee politician), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Roane County (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Ka-CHING!
A project with Amazon.com vouchers as prizes! [6] if you want to go for the voucher, I want to go for the wikicup points. We could bring Welsh Pony and Cob up to GA. Big thing would be to add more sources from nation-of-origin to supplement the fairly US-centric tone. I might reformat how the images are presented too. Interested? Montanabw(talk) 19:37, 9 March 2016 (UTC)
- I don't care about the vouchers because I don't order stuff online and even if I won them wouldn't use them (my parents had their identity stolen years ago and I don't give out info, don't even do Facebook), but sure, I'll help with the article for free. I can check out Google Books and find some more sources and help with expansion. I'll post at the talk page when I find something, or just add it in if it's really good. Morning! I was wanting to send you some horsey material but you don't have email activated. Atsme📞📧 15:18, 13 March 2016 (UTC)
- I don't have email at all (crappy smartphone! It makes everything else so annoying I don't even try it). Can you link me to it if it's online? Thanks for trying. 🐎 White Arabian Filly Neigh 15:54, 13 March 2016 (UTC)
- Well, let me see if I can provide an overview. To begin, I can't create the article myself because of a COI (I was the producer at the time so all I can do is make suggestions) but I think it has merit for its historic value as an article in our category, Project Equine (sports). It would pass GNG for a number of reasons:
- It first aired as a special on PBS affiliates in 1993;
- It stars celebrity William Shatner when he was active showing American Saddlebreds. It is a unique behind-the-scenes look at Belle Reve Farms with Bill talking to the audience about breeding and showing American Saddlebreds;
- It focuses on breeding, raising, selling and showing American Saddlebreds; therefore, it may also qualify under equine (sports);
- It won the very first award ever sponsored for Broadcast Media Excellence (see my user page) by the American Horse Shows Association, this link will take you to the uploaded pages of the articles from the two magazines.
- It was the first tv episode of its kind for the American Saddlebred Association and AHSA;
- It was covered in the American Saddlebred magazine, and also in "Horse Show Magazine" which was the publication for AHSA at the time;
- Let me know if you need more info. Best!! Atsme📞📧 17:24, 13 March 2016 (UTC)
- That's interesting, I'll start a draft and work on it. I think it's worth doing and it'll fit in with the American Saddlebred Horse Association article, which I wrote. Is there a link to the show itself? The facebook link only brought up a short description and not the articles. I think Belle Reve Farm may also meet notability; for the show I did a quick userspace stub creation covering all basics; will expand later. White Arabian Filly Neigh 20:17, 13 March 2016 (UTC)

Y'know, I gotta say that Shatner is actually one hell of a good rider; most men his size cannot ride saddle seat that well; he could damn near win an equitation class. Count me kind of surprised. Montanabw(talk) 03:35, 14 March 2016 (UTC)
Put a bit of stuff in the draft you created. Hope it helps. Horsegeek(talk) 13:57, 14 March 2016 (UTC)Horsegeek
- Thanks for all help, and it's fine to play in the sandbox. Incidentally, the guy I learned from was close to Shatner's size, and he was a very good rider as well. Not all heavier riders flop and bounce.
- By the way, Shatner and Ch. Call Me Ringo did a presentation at the 2010 WEG, and I think the horse may be notable for that and his other accomplishments.
- I haven't had a chance to watch the whole program yet, but will try later. (Hungry baby guinea pigs.)

Hello,
I have reviewed the above nomination and will follow it on my watchlist. I do have some reservations about the suggested hook, and have left comments concerning possible improvements. I greatly enjoyed reading the article, and believe it deserves a hook that draws in the largest possible audience.

- Georgejdorner, I added an alt hook that I think is more interesting, and pinged my co-contributor to see if she has any ideas. White Arabian Filly Neigh 20:45, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

Wilhelm Tell II
Not very important, but while the DYK of Flim Flam is being reviewed, I'm going to work on another horse, Wilhelm Tell II. Found a lot of sources about him. :) Not too important, I don't think I'm going to do a DYK on him, but it's worth the time writing. Do you know anything about him? Just wondering. - I don't know much except he sired Flim Flam and apparently some other notable horses. I can help with it. White Arabian Filly Neigh 01:19, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
I'm not so sure, when I look it up, there's a Wilhelm Tell I and II. Am I wrong? Because they are both sired by Wedekind and out of Donauliese. User:Horsegeek/Wilhelm Tell II (horse) Horsegeek Whisper in a horse's ear 01:21, 19 March 2016 (UTC)Horsegeek
Yep, found a page that says it http://www.lynnsporthorses.com/index/Our_Stallions They are actually full brothers! Horsegeek Whisper in a horse's ear 02:27, 19 March 2016 (UTC)Horsegeek
- It's strange they'd give them almost identical names. Usually a family of horses have similar names, like Merry Go Boy's son was Go Boy's Shadow, but they're not that close. I think both of them may be notable. White Arabian Filly Neigh 15:01, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
Quick question, do you think this site is on the actual Wilhelm Tell II? It seems like it. http://www.longandshortreviews.com/uncategorized/monday-spotlight-claire-ashgrove/ Horsegeek Whisper in a horse's ear 18:57, 19 March 2016 (UTC)Horsegeek
- I think it is. It's unlikely they'd allow two horses with the same name in the same breed registry, and I don't think there's more than one Hanoverian registry in the US. White Arabian Filly Neigh 20:04, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
-
- Horsegeek European horse naming conventions are more comfortable than USA with using I, II, III, IV, etc... if you really want to rip your hair out, the Lipizzans name horses with sire and dam's name combined, so you can sometimes have near-identical names; the Bábolna stud in Hungary did something like that too, with Roman numerals--there are so many Arabians named "Siglavy Baghdady" in pedigrees that it makes me want to rip my hair out...! May want to dig a little in the German archives... but allbreedpedigree verifies they were full brothers (Allbreed is an "anyone can edit" source that can have mistakes, but... Ripping hair out
Sorry to slow down the DYK for Black Allan over the hook. The reviewer doesn't understand the criteria. I'll try to get a reviewer to approve it, and I apologize if my anal-retentiveness bogged this down. Montanabw(talk) 02:26, 24 March 2016 (UTC)

Me thinks it's ready to publish
Ok, WAF and Montanabw - when you get time, see how it looks and make your determination. Also, do you think it would prove helpful to include the article tearsheets from the magazine that are available on Commons or somehow link to them as external links or something?
- See File:1994ASHA-Article-86.jpeg, File:1994ASHA-Article-87.jpeg, File:1994ASHA-Article-88.jpeg Atsme📞📧 13:48, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
- I'll do the move; I think the tearsheets could be just put in the article. The article on Imperator is almost ready to go live too. White Arabian Filly Neigh 14:21, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
- Of course, an unidentified IP showed up to raise a COI issue so no one could actually id the user. Perhaps to avoid such a ridiculous time-sync issue, you should have just taken the final article you all approved, and pasted it in lieu of a move. As you may be aware, and quite sadly, historic significance has no relevance to some, and they are willing to hide behind an IP address to create dissension that is in no way helpful to the encyclopedia. Another option would be to delete the edits with my user name attached, and reinsert them with your user name. I don't want to be credited with any of the edits - I was simply helping while in draft form under supervision by multiple editors. Atsme📞📧 20:12, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
- The IP is obviously familiar with WP, in order to know that, and they're just trying to stir up trouble. I backed you up on that talk page; I think the IP is just being a pest and has no valid argument, since three others were reviewing your edits.
- I launched Imperator (horse) and should have the draft of Sky Watch ready within a few days, to go with the article. I already did one on Shatner's farm. White Arabian Filly Neigh 20:19, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
- Great work, WAF. I imagine a sock puppet investigation would turn-up some interesting results. It's also rather "coincidental" that the attack on this article occurred at the same time WP:Project Accuracy started receiving a little attention as the result of the efforts by Wikicology to recruit input. It's really very sad, and I tend to believe it involves some of the same editors who harassed me in the past without reason or purpose - it's almost as if I'm under attack by trolls whose only mission is to see WP fail. Atsme📞📧 21:44, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
- I'd bet so; I just got done dealing with a sockmaster who kept screwing with the various dog breed articles, using multiple accounts and then multiple IPs. If this particular one keeps up their annoying habits, they're headed for a block. White Arabian Filly Neigh 00:31, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
- Funny - when I created the WP:AVDUCK essay, it resulted in something similar that eventually wound up being a COINoscopy. Now I'm in discussions over WikiProject Accuracy which I recently created, and again I'm dealing with unwarranted COI attacks. Curious how the IP traces back to Canada, which raises my suspicions about who might be behind the harassment. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I am duly impressed by your unyielding patience, WAF, especially in light of the warrantless BS that's being spewed; it's clearly harrasment, perhaps born of jealousy, who knows? How sad and such a senseless waste of time. Atsme📞📧 16:42, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
- If they get too troublesome, I'll take it to ANI and request a Checkuser. Thanks for your comment about my patience (my parents complained for years that I didn't have any). White Arabian Filly Neigh 21:32, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

I'll watchlist, if there's a COI problem, everyone knows I'm the anti-COI B--ch from the "PHN" article, so if I'm OK with it, we should survive. Maybe put the close association tag at talk, though. Montanabw(talk) 21:38, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you, Montanabw. There is no financial COI or advocacy involved, my part of the editing was restricted to WAF's sandbox prior to it being moved to mainspace - I have not edited the article while in mainspace, and there is nothing in our COI guidelines that would prevent me from making suggestions here or on the TP of the article. This is also not a situation of "self-cite" because you and 3 other editors are involved and overseeing it, and will either accept or reject my suggestions. The program aired on PBS, it stars William Shatner, I retired from the television/film industry a long time ago, there is no financial interest involved, and the program itself is archived as an historical broadcast. The only thing I'm guilty of doing is making a contribution, so if that's my only crime, oh well. Now that the silliness is out of the way, I just wanted to mention the following for your review:
- Concept and Creation section - The series' origins correlated with the stated vision of former ASHA president Judy Werner, <--- incorrect wikilink. Judy Werner was the president of the American Saddlebred Horse Association, not the United States Equestrian Federation.
- Theme section - The episode ended with the intense head-to-head competition between two of the all-time greatest five-gaited Champions of their time, the stallion Sky Watch and the [[gelding] Imperator, in head to head competition <--- head-to-head is redundant
- Release section - As a pilot episode, A Celebration of Horses: The American Saddlebred was scheduled for release on four PBS network affiliates, and was broadcast and rebroadcast from November 1993 until October 1995 <--- 4 PBS network affiliates is incorrect. It should read, As a pilot episode, A Celebration of Horses: The American Saddlebred was scheduled for 4 national releases from November 1993 until October 1995 with the first release televised on 56 PBS network affiliates ranging from New York to California.
- Cast section - the horses owned by Shatner would be the stallion Sultan's Great Day, and broodmare, Miss O'Hare. Hope my suggestions will prove helpful. Atsme📞📧 23:51, 26 March 2016 (UTC) Still not corrected. Concern is that only 4 stations makes it non-notable. The program aired nationally on 56 stations, 4x over the course of a couple of years.15:23, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
- I think I fixed most of those, and added the tearsheet back in. I have a sandbox article on Donna Moore and another on the Lexington Junior League Horse Show. Imperator is up for DYK and Sky Watch is half done. Whew. The articles are running away with me! White Arabian Filly Neigh 01:30, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
- Suggestion: instead of using the AHSA Award in the info box, what about using the cropped cover of the American Saddlebred magazine with William Shatner for the infobox File:1994ASHA-Article-Cover (cropped).jpg and then add the award image to the section for the award? Also, I wonder if an admin could help you with a copy/paste of the source material from your sandbox rather and eliminate the "move to article space" which included my edit suggestions? It should have been a clean creation by you but that may not be appropriate since others edited in the sandbox. I don't know. I just hate that what should have been a welcome contribution to the encyclopedia ended-up bringing controversy to Project Equine, and for that I apologize to my colleagues. Perhaps Montanabw can share some advice. Atsme📞📧 15:11, 27 March 2016 (UTC)

Awards and Honors
What exactly is the difference between horse awards and honors? I'm doing an article on Sultan's Great Day and he was crowned World’s Champion Two-Year-Old Fine Harness Stallion/Gelding. Is this a award or honor? Thanks. Horsegeek(talk) 23:11, 31 March 2016 (UTC)Horsegeek
- I think that would go in the wins column. Awards or honors would be if he was named Horse of the Year or something like that. White Arabian Filly Neigh 20:05, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
Doesn't seem like a win to me. I'll put it in honors until it goes live. 👍

Maltipoo
Hello, I have just about had enough of Maltipoos! You may have noticed by now that when someone uses an edit summary of "Removed stupid stuff about some YouTube dog", things get taken personally. It then becomes very difficult to negotiate or compromise with someone once things become personal - please keep this in mind in future. You may delete this message. SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. We appreciate that you have signed up to receive suggestions regularly; your contributions make Wikipedia better — thanks for helping!
If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please let us know on SuggestBot's talk page. -- SuggestBot (talk) 01:39, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
