Files for discussion (FfD) is for listing images and other media files which are unneeded or have non-free content usage concerns. Files that have been listed here for more than 7 days are eligible for either deletion or removal from pages if either a consensus to do so has been reached or no objections to deletion or removal have been raised. To quote the non-free content criteria, "it is the duty of users seeking to include or retain content to provide a valid rationale; those seeking to remove or delete it are not required to show that one cannot be created." For undeletion requests, first contact the administrator who deleted the file. If you are unable to resolve the issue with that administrator, the matter should be brought to deletion review. If you have questions if something should be deleted, consider asking at Media Copyright Questions. |

Instructions for listing files for discussion To list a file:
State the reasons why the file should be deleted, removed, or altered. Also, state what specific action should be taken, preferably in bold text; this allows discussion participants and closers to better understand the purpose of the nomination. Some examples of nomination statements include:
Some common reasons for deletion or removal from pages are:
These are not the only "valid" reasons to discuss a file. Any properly explained reason can be used. The above list comprises the most common and uncontroversial ones. Since abbreviated deletion reasons will not be familiar to most Wikipedians, especially newbies, please consider using full words. A few extra keystrokes now can save paragraphs of explanation to a panicked uploader wondering what's wrong with their image. If you remove a file from an article, list the article from which you removed it so there can be community review of whether the file should be deleted. This is necessary because file pages do not remember the articles on which the file were previously used. |

Instructions for discussion participation
In responding to the deletion nomination, consider adding your post in the format
* '''View''' - Reasoning ... -- ~~~~
where "Delete", "Keep", "Comment", or something else may replace "View". In posting their reasoning, many editors use abbreviations and cite to the following:
- Wikipedia:NFCC#1 – Free equivalent is/is not available
- Wikipedia:NFCC#8 – Significance
- Wikipedia:Non-free content#Images 2 – Unacceptable image use
Remember that polling is not a substitute for discussion. Wikipedia's primary method of determining consensus is through editing and discussion, not voting. Although editors occasionally use straw polls in an attempt to test for consensus, polls or surveys sometimes impede rather than assist discussion. They should be used with caution, and are no more binding than any other consensus decision.
Also remember that if you believe that an image is potentially useful for other projects and should be moved to Wikimedia Commons, in lieu of responding '''Move to Commons'''
, you can move it there yourself. See Wikipedia:Moving files to the Commons for instructions.

But that picture I uploaded shows the animated version of her. The GIF only shows what she looks like in the comics. In the TV show, she looks a bit different

- Delete: One of these images is supposed to serve as the primary means of identification. For the extra image, there are more stringent requirements. It's appearance needs to be critically discussed. Currently this is not done in the article. – Finnusertop (talk ⋅ contribs) 22:58, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

- @Finnusertop: because the article only has a picture of what she looks like in the comics. The comic and the TV show are separate, so it should be kept. Or maybe I should upload a full body version of her because the article doesn't have any--Pachisu124 (talk) 22:08, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

- File:Twitterdrumpf.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Potguru ( | contribs | uploads | upload log).
Subject in image is Donald Trump, a biographical subject who is still alive. This is a derivative work that fails WP:NFCC#1 and WP:NFC#UUI since the image of Donald Trump is a copyrighted one (assumed copyrighted since the source of the original photo is not posted here, and is thus unknown) and the subject is still alive. Steel1943 (talk) 17:06, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
-
- Subject in image is Donald J Drumpf, a parody account apparently created by John Oliver and/or HBO. I just added a link to the original image[1] on the file page. Subject in image is NOT of Donald Trump, a living person as the dissent contends but a "likeness" of a "parody" creation per my answer below. --Potguru (talk) 17:21, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

- Strong Keep - Have searched high and low and cannot find an image of any quality or type on the subject of the parody character Drumpf. But an image is necessary for the artcile the subject of whom is the parody creation Donald Drumpf. The twitter likeness seems the most reasonable and attribution was given to the source in this derivative work. I contend, because a similar likeness (the actual twitter avatar) has now been seen by more than 28,000 "followers" and is being adopted at a rate of more than 1000 new followers per day (self observed estimate) in addition to exposure in international media that this single clearly attributed image when used in the context of describing the parody character in an encyclopedic setting is most appropriate and (more importantly) the only known image that fits the needed use. --Potguru (talk) 16:55, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
-
- @Potguru: ...And how does this address whether or not the original photograph used in this derivative work is free or copyrighted? Steel1943 (talk) 16:57, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

- The image is a derivative work of a copyrighted image which I make the claim we, the humans, have a right to use under the fair right doctrine which allows for images (even copyrighted ones) to be used for educational purposes. I am proposing that for the purpose of illustration of this parody creation we humans are allowed to use this image for education (non-commercial) purposes. Such as in the english speaking version of the article here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_J_Drumpf. I am not convinced any other use of the image is allowed beyond my personal (and non-commercial) use. --Potguru (talk) 17:03, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

- Delete: but on different grounds than the nominator.[3] The issue is not WP:NFCC#1 but WP:NFCC#8. The use of this image fails contextual significance on two counts. 1) There is no real or official appearance of "Drumpf", so any one image fails contextual significance in the capacity to identify the subject of the article. I don't think that any one of the iterations of this meme are established enough to pass as the likeness of "Drumpf". An image is not necessary for the reader to comprehend what the article is about. Make notice that John Oliver only used images of Trump in his conventional appearance on the show. 2) Visual aspects of the image itself are not critically discussed either, so this image fails both instances of WP:NFC#Meeting the contextual significance criterion. Editors above are encouraged to argue on the basis of our non-free content policy rather fair use in US law, because, I quote: "The use of non-free content on Wikipedia is [...] subject to purposely stricter standards than those laid down in U.S. copyright law." (WP:NFC) – Finnusertop (talk ⋅ contribs) 18:09, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
-
- Thanks for that meaningful input. To your comment "Visual aspects of the image itself are not critically discussed either" there were mentions of the Drumpf character in the show while the wispy hair Trump image was being shown. Do you think a derivative or screen capture of that single frame might be a better way to illustrate this? thanks again! --Potguru (talk) 19:08, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
- @Potguru: It would shift the argument, but unfortunately only to face serious objections of replaceability (WP:NFCC#1) that the nominator mounted. If "Drumpf" looks exactly like Trump, then there is no reason to use a non-free image. Using a screencap has even further problems: assuming that the "whispy hair Trump" photograph itself is copyrighted, we'd be dealing with a copyrighted image within a copyrighted image, almost certainly in violation of WP:FREER. It doesn't eliminate the WP:NFCC#8 issue either: non-free images are used to either identify a subject or as images whose appearance itself is critically discussed within the article. The latter is presently simply not in the article. Oliver's discussion of "whyspy hair Trump"'s appearance would have to make it into the article first; so far it has been thought of as so irrelevant that no mention of it is made. – Finnusertop (talk ⋅ contribs) 20:21, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
- any chance we can use this? https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/705464735353991168/d4eBpkKr.jpg Deepdrumpf is mentioned in the article and it would suffice for my purposes of illustrating a possible drumpf image. Or I could make a collage of a variety of images perhaps? thanks so much! --Potguru (talk) 21:05, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
- @Potguru: Currently the visual aspects of that image are not discussed in the article; and it's not a particularly good image to identify the entire "Drumpf" phenomenon, so fails WP:NFCC#8 on both coutns of WP:NFC#Meeting the contextual significance criterion. Collages of non-free images are almost certainly a violation of minimal use WP:NFCC#3, see WP:MONTAGE. – Finnusertop (talk ⋅ contribs) 22:00, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

- Delete per NFCC criterion 8, or the violation thereof. There are free images that can be used to describe the subject, and Oliver never used this image in his description of Trump. I don't exactly see the purpose in adding the Twitter avatar as well. epicgenius (talk) 19:19, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

- Delete - this picture originated from a Twitter account not connected to John Oliver, the man who popularized 'Drumpf'. We are just getting the avatar of some random Twitter user, not one account maintained by Oliver or his representatives. In that case anyone, even me, could create some random Twitter account on Drumpf and get our avatars featured here regardless of copyright? That's just ridiculous to violate copyright in this manner. This picture is not officially Drumpf. starship.paint ~ KO 22:59, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

- Oliver mentioned the twitter account in the show (verifying)... I'm fairly certain the account is controlled by the company although I do not understand how the account shows an origination date of 2013. --Potguru (talk) 23:41, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
- If you cannot provide a source of Oliver or his company claiming to own and use the account, then no talk. The account shows an origination date of 2013 because it's not related to Oliver, and has been parodying Trump since 2013. It has been tweeting in in 2013, 2014 and 2015. It seems like WP:V is not your strong suit. You, Potguru, added unsourced claims that the Twitter account tweeted thousands of times in just a few short days. Do you know what you are doing? starship.paint ~ KO 02:14, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

- ^ This is obviously not used to portray Donald Trump in his normal appearance, so using any free picture of Trump as a free alternative is not possible. This case is very much reminiscent to using screencaps of films to portray the characters that are played by actors who are alive, when there is a difference in appearance. Use like that is explicitly allowed per WP:NFLISTS§5.

File:Nehemiah Program logo.jpg
- File:Nehemiah Program logo.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by NewYorkActuary ( | contribs | uploads | upload log).
This violates WP:NFCC#8 in Nehemiah Corporation of America as it is not a logo for Nehemiah Corporation of America but for The Nehemiah Program. Stefan2 (talk) 19:46, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
- Keep. I am the uploader of this file, which depicts the registered trademark of a now-defunct financial program. It appears in the article in the section that devotes substantial discussion to the program. Criterion #8 has been met here, because inclusion of the image significantly increases understanding of the financial program by serving as its primary means of visual identification. This is especially relevant given that there have been several homeowner-related programs in the United States (both in the past and present) that go by the name "Nehemiah Program" or the similar-sounding "Nehemiah Project", none of which are related to the program being discussed in the article. Inclusion of the trademark for this particular Nehemiah Program is essential in helping the readers know that they have reached the correct article. And because the program was a distinct legal entity, inclusion of its trademark adds understanding (via visual identification) that would not be achieved simply by adding the logo of the umbrella corporation that sponsored the program. Furthermore, the article's discussion of the program is sufficiently detailed so as to permit, in theory, the spinning off of that section into a stand-alone article, at which point inclusion of the trademark would not raise any issues. NewYorkActuary (talk) 23:37, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
-
-
- It's not quite as simple as that. Readers can easily reach the article via the Search function, as illustrated here. And to illustrate the 'real world' potential for confusion, a similar search on Bing (shown here) displays the name of the Nehemiah Corporation, but also displays many other unrelated programs of similar name. Considering that much of the article documents the challenges made against the Program by various U.S. federal agencies, including a finding by the Internal Revenue Service that donations to the Program were not tax-deductible, the need to provide visual identification of this particular program (whose logo is not used by any of the similar-named programs) takes on an importance not often seen in 'typical' Wikipedia articles. Author and subject of photo requested deletion via PROD, which I declined as inapplicable in file space. However, as the photo is of the user and probably was never used other than in his user space and further given that the user is (by his own userspace description) an unremarkable person, photo probably should be deleted per his request as it has no possible use, either on Wikipedia or on Commons. Somewhat of a test request: The file does currently (appropriately) have a "generic image name" default file and text but it also shadows commons:File:Bl.png which is likewise a "generic image name" default file, or rather a redirect to it. With this in mind, the local copy should be deleted as redundant (one cannot upload a new file over the Commons one, which displays the same content as ours) and to get it out of Category:Wikipedia files that shadow a file on Wikimedia Commons. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 10:50, 5 March 2016 (UTC)
- Delete Locally hosted placeholder images are generally inappropriate as they only hide the problem and also shows up in a number of maintenance categories. It is still possible to upload filenames with those names on Commons, causing confusion for uploaders and requiring action from us when our placeholder images suddenly are shadowed by Commons images. A better solution is to delete all local placeholder files and replace them by placeholders on Commons. In this case, we already have a placeholder on Commons, so there should be absolutely no need for this placeholder. --Stefan2 (talk) 11:29, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

Fairly sure that only coloured text is not original enough to make a copyrightable album cover. Seeing as Australia's copyrightability treshold is much lower than the US one (see the Australian Aboriginal Flag for an example), this should be relicensed as {{PD-ineligible-USOnly}}. It may also be renamed as it's shadowing a Commons redirect but that can wait. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 11:14, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

File:Micmac pater noster.jpg
- File:Micmac pater noster.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Kwamikagami ( | contribs | uploads | upload log).
This file is a lower quality (a bit blurrier and it's somewhat rotated) copy of the Commons file commons:File:Micmac pater noster.jpg which it is currently shadowing. I am wondering if it should be deleted as redundant lower quality copy and because the copyright status seems safe, or the shadowing fixed in some other way as Kwamikagami requested a local copy to be kept. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 14:09, 5 March 2016 (UTC)
- I agree the better image should be used. However, copyright status is never safe on Commons. I've modified free-use Commons png maps used on hundreds of WP articles (I just colored in countries or states) that have been deleted as copy-vio, despite there being nothing copyrightable about them. Best to never trust Commons and keep everything local. — kwami (talk) 00:52, 6 March 2016 (UTC)
- @Kwamikagami: Maybe it would be even better to ask for files that were deleted in error to be returned. (I have opinion regarding this particular entry). – Finnusertop (talk ⋅ contribs) 00:22, 7 March 2016 (UTC)
- That doesn't work. It takes months to get a file back, if you notice, but they don't notify you, just delete files seemingly at random. — kwami (talk) 03:45, 7 March 2016 (UTC)
- If you upload a file to Commons, then you get a notification on your talk page when/if it is nominated for deletion on Commons. If you have not received a talk page notification for a file, then it probably means that you were not the user who uploaded that file to Commons. --Stefan2 (talk) 12:54, 7 March 2016 (UTC)
- I think the issue is that kwami is mainly active here on enWiki and won't see a deletion nomination on Commons from here. Other editors I've seen using {{Keep local}} have given similar rationales, the need to follow two watchlists/notifications instead of just one. phab:T91192, phab:T5525 and phab:T3066 are related tasks.Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 16:44, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

- Delete The file was uploaded to Commons in 2012, and the user who added the {{keep local}} tag to Wikipedia has still not made any attempts to keeping the file synchronised at both projects. We can't keep outdated files around forever, and the user who added the {{keep local}} tag shouldn't expect that other people will go through the trouble of spending time on keeping files synchronised. It's better to delete the local file so that we avoid this problem. The situation might have been different, had the {{keep local}} tagger promptly ensured that the file was synchronised (that is, within a few weeks or so after the original upload in 2012). --Stefan2 (talk) 00:54, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

Non-free file beong used in Barbara Lawrence. File has a non-free use rationale, but I don't see how this particualr usage satisfies WP:NFCC. A freely licensed file (File:Barbara Lawrence in Man in the Shadow.jpg) is already being used in the infobox so a non-free image is not needed for identification purposes per WP:NFCC#1; morevoer, the non-free image itself does not seem to be the subject of any sourced commentary with in the article so the context required by WP:NFCC#8 is lacking. Suggest Delete, unless the non-free use can be better justified to the degree that omitting the image would be detrimental to the reader's understanding of the article. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:37, 5 March 2016 (UTC)
Football Federation of Sri Lanka logos
- File:Football Federation of Sri Lanka logo.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Price Zero ( | contribs | uploads | upload log).
- File:Sri Lanka FA.png (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Dryazan ( | contribs | uploads | upload log)
Non-free logos being used in Sri Lanka national football team, Sri Lanka women's national football team and Football Federation of Sri Lanka respectively. Each file has a non-free use rationale, but the source link provided for "Football Federation of Sri Lanka logo.jpg" shows it as being the logo of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka, which means usage in the team articles does not seem to comply with No. 17 of WP:NFC#UUI. This FIFA page and the federation's official Facebook page also show the logo as being the FFSL logo. "Football Federation of Sri Lanka". however, is using "File:Sri Lanka FA.png". There is no source link given, but the logo can be seen on this AFC page and this Twitter account. Just for reference, the Twitter account links to the federation's website, but the website doesn't link to the Twitter account; so, I'm not sure it's an official Twitter account. The federation's website and the Facebook page do link to each other.
If "Football Federation of Sri Lanka logo.jpg" is the current logo being used by the federation, I suggest it be added to "Football Federation of Sri Lanka" (a non-free use rationale is also needed), remove from the two individual team articles, and delete for "File:Sri Lanka FA.png" as a former logo, unless it can somehow be incorporated into the federation's article in a way that satisfies WP:NFCC.
If "File:Sri Lanka FA.png" is the current logo being used by the federation, then I suggest keep for "Football Federation of Sri Lanka" and (possibly) delete for "Football Federation of Sri Lanka logo.jpg", unless it can be shown that the logo is specific to one of the teams and that the consensus is that it's usage satisfies WP:NFCC. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:22, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

Non-free logos being respectively used in WBOB (AM)#History and KDSK (AM)#History. Each file has a non-free use rationale, but there current usage does not seem to satisfy WP:NFCC. Both rationales claim that the files are being used to identify the stations in question, but these are former logos and more recent logos are being used for identification in the articles' infoboxes. In addition, neither file itself is the subject of any sourced commentary within the relevant section so the context required by WP:NFCC#8 is not clear. I don't feel a non-free logo is needed for the reader to understand that the stations were once Radio Disney affiliates.
Is it possible that both of these files can be converted to {{PD-logo}} based upon File:Radio Disney Logo.svg on Commons? The basic logo design is the same with the non-free only having the additional call signs. File:RadioDisney590.png on Wikipedia is already licensed as "PD-logo".
If these two files can be converted to a free license, their usage would not be subject to the NFCC and other similar non-free Disney Radio logos could also be converted. Otherwise, I suggest remove each from their respective articles. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:50, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

This image was uploaded by Redsky89, who used an account that is blocked as a sockpuppet. The image itself is of Vester Lee Flanagan, who murdered two news staff members and then committed suicide. Neither the perpetrator is the article subject nor is his appearance discussed in the article, even when his ethnicity is identified briefly. Images of Chris Harper Mercer and of Adam Lanza have been deleted by consensus, followed by other similar images. Same would happen to this image. George Ho (talk) 04:09, 7 March 2016 (UTC)
- Comment I'm not sure that this image adds greatly to the article per WP:PERTINENCE. It doesn't say anything that the reader really needs to know. Whether it was uploaded by a sockpuppet, or whether some people think that it glorifies the killer, are not very relevant. Although I'm not a great fan of this image, I'm not going to nominate it for deletion as it could be seen as drawing in the argument that WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS, which should not be used in deletion debates. - Non-free images need to be added sparingly, and I'm not convinced that this image has a good WP:NFCC rationale. However, I'm not going to say "a similar image was deleted from article x, so it should be deleted from article y as well." Overall, the image isn't adding greatly to the article and runs into problems due to its non-free status. It shows that he is African American, but the text of the article already says this.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 08:20, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

Template:Protected generic image name
After some thinking, I am suggesting that each of these placeholder images that were uploaded years ago to prevent people from uploading images to overly vague titles ought to be deleted and their titles salted for the following reasons:
- Upload protection does serve the same purpose, MediaWiki:Protectedpagetext does transclude Template:Generic image names so people are warned.
- A locally hold "please use a more precise name" text does not actually solve the problem as it is still possible to upload overly vague titles images to Commons, where they will be transcluded here by InstantCommons
- ...except that the local placeholder will display instead when linking to the upload on Wikipedia, creating confusion especially for people not well versed in how this stuff works. e.g File:Logo.jpg which is transcluded on a wiki page.
- Further, sometimes these local placeholders end up shadowing legitimate Commons files such as commons:File:Y and commons:File:Wiki pic.jpg and several more. This makes them unusable and creates maintenance work to resolve these conflicts.
- While not all placeholders will end up shadowing a Commons file, these who are create maintenance work and these which don't are unnecessary. Thus I don't think merely deleting the conflicting files will work.
Batch nom since all the files have the same issue and considerations.Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 20:16, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

Non-free poster art being used in I Spit on Your Grave and Exploitation film#Rape and revenge films. File has a non-free use rationale for each usage, but only the usage in the stand-alone article about the film itself seems to satisfy WP:NFCC. There's no sourced discussion in the "Exploitation film" section which specifically discusses the poster itself, so the context required by WP:NFCC#8 is lacking. The film itself is just one of several discussed in the section and its stand-alone article is wikilinked, so the non-free image can be removed without being detrimental to the reader's understanding of this particular genre. Suggest keep for the stand-alone article and remove from "Exploitation film" article. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:03, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

This discussion is similar to Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2015 December 11#File:Cal Massey - Blues to Coltrane.jpg and the result for that discussion was delete. Since Buhlig died in 1952, a different non-free image of him could probably be used per No. 10 of WP:NFCI.
