Radio station articles - rebroadcasters/transmitters
Hi Bearcat, I noticed lately that if you click on a Query to access a rebroadcast transmitter information, ie: CBO-FM, it shows "Page not found" and it's on every query only in the transmitter list, but works okay under External links. I also noticed this error in every radio station article on Wikipedia recently. Isn't there a way you could correct this? Thanks! :-) Webfan29 (talk) 21:25, 1 December (UTC)
List of radio stations in Ontario
Hi Bearcat, I noticed that the List of radio stations in Ontario article has been "locked" to prevent users from editing since 2011. I was wondering if you could "unlock" that article? Thanks! :-) Webfan29 (talk) 21:39, 1 December (UTC).
Delete?
I'm not sure how to do it, but if you think it should be deleted can you have the article David Drake (venture capitalist) deleted? I see you also edited it. And that you are an administator. I just tried to fix it but it just looks like an autobiography for the most part, when all is said and done. The guy spoke in favor of some law, he speaks a few languages, he has companies nobody has ever heard of ... doesn't sound like a wikipedia article. 199.102.168.8 (talk) 03:13, 2 December 2015 (UTC)

- Not "my preferred version"; the version that was correctly compliant with Wikipedia's neutral point of view rules. Bearcat (talk) 18:13, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
I would just like to say that from an outside perspective, the IP's order to "Remember Leslie Kong" could be construed as a death threat, as I can see no context for the reference (No reason to bring up Kong) except for the circumstances of his death (i.e. remember what happened to the last guy who wouldn't listen). Just wanted to let you know in case you missed it (easy to miss if not familiar with the subject), because no one deserves to be threatened like that, especially without being aware that they were threatened. UnequivocalAmbivalence (talk) 23:34, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

Need some help here: Robert Taylor (actor)
A relatively new editor has been adding a great deal of information based on what some other editors consider a questionable source: Template:Find a Grave; more importantly is a tendentious history WP:TE in constantly reverting back to a preferred version, thereby hitting the 3R rule. Can you help; I have already set up a talk page discussion on the topic of Robert Taylor's death. I do not want to go any further, for the time being, on dealing with the numerous other articles that have been revised to have a great reliance on the Find-a-Grave website as a reference source. Ways to improve List of Canadian films of 2016
Hi, I'm Rocksanddirt. Bearcat, thanks for creating List of Canadian films of 2016!
I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Hi, I don't know if this is an encyclopedic page, as it seems more like news to me. More importantly, it needs some references to reliable sources (wikilinks don't count).
The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse. Rocksanddirt (talk) 23:24, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

Friendly advice
I noticed that you express on your user page that you drink caffeine and suffer from depression. I would advice you to go off caffeine for at least one month- including tea and any other caffeine product- and see what happens. You may suffer from withdrawal symptoms such as fatigue and dizziness, but a few days after that keep the fast. After a month ask yourself if you still suffer from depression or anything else you felt while on caffeine. My friendly advice. But in the end it's up to you.--Nadirali نادرالی (talk) 08:34, 31 December 2015 (UTC)

Dispute over Toronto Life listing
Hi Bearcat. As a Wikipedia administrator, I'd appreciate if you could weigh in on a debate over the entry for Toronto Life. I am a former employee of the publication. Three years ago, long after I'd left Toronto Life, I added a section about the web site and online brand expansion. A current member of the Toronto Life staff has recently removed the section, stating that it is purely self-promotional and irrelevant. Though my own name is mentioned in this section, I believe I followed Wikipedia's guidelines, including 21 independent media attributions across 8 different publications, and undid the deletion. I also reached out to the staff member and suggested he edit any specific parts that are in dispute rather than outright deleting 1,400 words from the page. The Toronto Life staffer has since deleted the entire section again. Is it possible for you to review the Revision History and either restore the section or indicate to me that it is indeed invalid? Both of us have agreed to leave this decision to a Wikipedia administrator, so I'm reaching out to you here for guidance. Thanks! Heygaryc (talk) 18:18, 4 January 2016 (UTC)
I'm the aforementioned "current member of the Toronto Life staff"! Just to be clear on where I was coming from here, my issue with the section was as much that it was irrelevant to the history of a well-read and long-living city magazine as that it was written by a former staff member about themselves and their colleagues (and themselves and their colleagues' work) at the time they worked together. It's not that their contributions weren't important or that I'm trying to undo their history with the company—it's more that, for a magazine that has been around for 50 years, an incredibly detailed section on just their online presence over the course of just a few years struck me as not what Wikipedia is intended to be. I know and in some cases have worked with or still work with much everyone involved, including User:Heygaryc, and I like them all; my edits weren't intended to be personal, or vindictive. (I, of course, have a conflict of interest, too, in making those edits: as the senior digital-only employee at the publication now, many of the people named, including User:Heygaryc, worked on things that I'm now responsible in whole or part for. I'm even the writer of one of the critical pieces in another publication that was cited as a source in the section.) The section was just a thing I found odd when I stumbled across it on Wikipedia one day, and something I decided to take the initiative to fix. Thanks, sincerely, for your help with this! Changes to the page about my music
Hello,
I see you were the creator of the page on my music. Sadly, though I tried to make a full page on my own once, it got declined, and on the one you created the description is good, but has a couple important errors.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Thulin
I am not just a dubstep artist, I meddle within most genres of EDM but primarily Trance & Progressive. Also, I am not specifically a Christian artist so saying "Swedish Christian Artist" in the first paragraph is inaccurate. Though I do work with Christian artists on remixes or originals at times, it is not my primary focus. As a producer I need to attract more clientele than just a niche market, as you can imagine. :)
It would be correct to say I am "an EDM artist" and not link the Christian parts. Christian EDM isn't really much of a thing, and I'm not trying to go that direction at all with my artistry. Though I do believe, music is my career more than a ministry if that makes sense? Mostly, I'm a producer, not so much an artist.
But all this ramble to say, can you change the "Genre" to "EDM" or "Trance" rather than CEDM & Dubstep?? Please! :)
Here are the incorrect items under the right column. It should say:
Genre: Trance, EDM
Instruments: Piano, Keyboard (i neither sing or play guitar)
Best regards, David Thulin

French interlanguage links at Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television Award for Best Animated Short
Hi there. So I've added some French interwiki links for Quebec and French co-produced animated shorts, using the template. There's just one I can't get right and it's the link to fr:Pierre Hébert (cinéaste) at the 23rd Genie Awards. I think the problem is that we have an article in English for a different Pierre Hébert, so when I use the template correctly -- I think, since it worked in other cases -- for {{Interlanguage link|fr|Pierre Hébert|Pierre Hébert (cinéaste)}} it defaults to the wrong person. If you know how to tweak that, please let me know. My only thought was moving the current Pierre Hébert to Pierre Hébert (sculptor) and then trying to have the redirect deleted so the ILL template will work here, but that seems a tad disruptive to fix this one issue. thanks, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 16:10, 20 January 2016 (UTC)
- Bearcat, I don't think you meant to do so based on your message on my talk page but it looks like you just undid all my work removed all the interlanguage links I'd added when you removed all the off-wiki links that someone else had added? We're back to no ILL links, the wrong Pierre Hébert linked, etc. That wasn't intentional, was it? Shawn in Montreal (talk) 16:57, 20 January 2016 (UTC)

- I haven't seen the other articles you claim to be talking about, so I can't say whether those are articles that should also be deleted, or whether you're just misrepresenting or misunderstanding what you've actually seen other articles doing. As per WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS, which Fuhghettaboutit already directed you to, the fact that other articles may exist in an inappropriate state of referencing does not give this article an exemption from having to follow our reliable sourcing rules — it means the other ones need to be deleted too, and I just haven't seen them yet. I will re-submit tomorrow for the page I created to be reviewed again. I will make she to find a biography about Jordan Lawson from a website of some kind that's not a blog, or anything like what I've already posted. I'm assuming a biography will be sufficient enough for this page to be approved? Let me know thank you. Other wise, I'll submit for a re-review tomorrow.

Hi,
I had a little discussion with Hullaballoo Wolfowitz:, and we weren't sure if it was an A7, A9, or neither. Did it meet either of those, or did you snow delete it? Adam9007 (talk) 21:42, 24 January 2016 (UTC)
- I believe this deletion was out of process. Discographies are excluded from A7, and A9 applies only to discrete recordings. There was no reason to speedy it rather than allowing the PROD process to run its course. The Big Bad Wolfowitz (aka Hullaballoo). Treated like dirt by admins since 2006. (talk) 21:50, 24 January 2016 (UTC)
- @Hullaballoo Wolfowitz: If it didn't meet any speedy criterion, but there was no practical chance of it surviving (in my judgement there wasn't), then the Snowball clause may have been appropriate. Adam9007 (talk) 21:55, 24 January 2016 (UTC)

CSA animated shorts
Hi again. I noticed your suggestion on the user talk page for the Deadly Deposits editor and noted he hasn't yet taken you up on your suggestion to create some article on recent CSA nominees. So I have just created a basic stub for BAM (film). I'm not as confident as you that just being nominated for this award would confer sufficient notability but you're probably right -- and at any rate there is a sufficient press coverage, especially if one tosses French media into the works for Quebec titles. Anyway, it's a start and I'll expand further... or of course please feel free to fix anything that you deem. best, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 21:27, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
Beverly Macca
Hi Bearcat. In regards to your request to delete the Beverly Macca page: I agree that international coverage may not be required but certainly national coverage in the UK. Beverly Macca still plays a big role in the North West of England. Between charity work (noted in the media by regional papers) and the fact Macca is on radio and made television appearances, I believe that their is a case for the page to be kept. The reason for the creation of the page, was to allow people to gain more of an insight into Macca's life as the character of Beverly Macca is growing in popularity. Only 5 out of 17 of the links are to Macca's YouTube or website, others are from media websites, nationally accredited news papers and MPs. I believe the page should not be deleted. Ellen White
Hi Bearcat! I agree that most individual vegetarians should not be included in the category "vegetarianism." However, Ellen White was one of the earliest and most influential, and is the reason why the entire Seventh-Day Adventist movement is know for promoting vegetarianism. Under the circumstances, do you think it is best to remove that category? Thanks for your thoughts. 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 03:43, 7 February 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for the thoughts. I agree that random personalities who are vegetarian should not be included, although if I were setting the category criteria, thought leaders on the topic would be included. I would not have a problem with including the few dozen people more influential than White in the category, that seems a reasonable, but certainly including every vegetarian would be overkill. I would leave it up to the experts as to whether or not Lisa Simpson is a thought leader on eschewing meat. Again, thanks for answering my question. 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 17:16, 8 February 2016 (UTC)

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Dear Bearcat,
Apologies for my recent submission (new article for Close Counters) that didn't meet referencing guidelines, and thank you for taking the time to explain the problems. I'm not sure what happened with the triple j referencing as it worked when I checked before submission, but I'll go back and re-do those links.
I'm a bit unsure as to how the best way is to proceed with referencing this new page, as I used this band page [2] as a model to some extent. I'm aware that there are referencing problems with this, but it primarily uses blogs as citations as I did for my page, and yet it's been accepted for publication?

Declined submission of Draft:Joseph Swensen
Hello, Bearcat. @Balquhidder2013: asked me to take a look at this article, and I would like to clarify your review comment please.
When you declined this submission, your comment was: "Almost every single reference here is either a primary source or an invalid circular reference to another Wikipedia article..." However, when I followed up on these references I found that they had been entered wrongly - every single one showed that the author was Joseph Swensen (the subject of the article), but that is wrong. I have corrected the references so they now show correctly, and to my eye they now seem to support his notability.
But things are rarely that simple, so I would be grateful if you would take a quick look at the revised article and comment on whether this has addressed your concern, or is there something else that needs to be done... --Gronk Oz (talk) 01:59, 10 February 2016 (UTC)

Biased 'Lucy DeCoutere' Edit
You have blocked my attempt to add details to the Ghomeshi trial regarding the love letter read in court by DeCoutere confirming her condoning Ghomeshi's actions. You have done this under the guise of 'Violations of the biographies of living persons policy: persistent addition of Ghomeshi-related trial content not relevant to her biography'. So, it is relevant to Lucy DeCoutere's biography that she accused the defendant of abuse yet it is not relevant that evidence was brought to light which invalidates her accusation? Were you not biased and enforced the biographies of living person policy evenly and consistently, you would remove the content related to the Ghomeshi trial in it's entirety. You are not acting from a neutral point of view and should face judgement by other wikipedia members.Whateverthrowaway (talk) 01:07, 11 February 2016 (UTC)

Hello Bearcat. thank you for your recent feedback to my Wikipedia article on the artist Andreá Cassar. I will find more 3rd party information to course the story properly. However I notice there are a fair number of articles on Wikipedia that do NOT meet the standards on which, for example, my article was rejected. A good example is "Bryan Rich." That article provides little to no information about the subject, uses sources that only provide context to the person's name (and nothing about the person) --- however, the article still exists in the wiki. Your remarks to me re creation of page for Mary Bettwy
I was taken aback, not so much by the combative tone of your response, and not so much by your conclusory statements, but by the apparent gender and racial bias of your analysis. I did a quick search on Google and discovered that, indeed, much has been written about Gender bias on Wikipedia. Your analysis of whether my grandmother (whom I never knew) was notable was made without any consideration of the historical context and without ever taking into consideration that she was a Hispanic female (the first to be elected to office in Arizona), living in a very male-dominated world, especially in southern Arizona in the 1930s. Even one of your colleagues expressly dismissed these factors as unimportant (again, by pure fiat). You also cite the conflict of interest policy, which I understand, but which is insensitive to the fact that the historical accomplishments of women and minorities often went unnoticed by anyone but family members and the fact that it would be only the descendants (as in my case) who know, through oral histories, about the accomplishments. Evidence of such accomplishments is naturally scattered, circumstantial and hard to find. To discourage the descendants of an otherwise notable person from creating or editing in Wikipedia tends to favor a white-dominated history and works against females and minorities. In other words, the policy, as applied, appears to be sexist and racist. I have always defended Wikipedia as an excellent tertiary source, but I am now concerned that the lack of diversity among editors has resulted in a cultural bias that discriminates against both females and minorities. I do not know whether Mary Bettwy was notable, but I have lost confidence in Wikipedia’s definition of what is notable for females and minorities. Sbettwy (talk) 01:34, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

- I'm not being rude; you're failing to follow the rules, even though they've been explained to you many, many times. We do not unprotect articles just because an anonymous IP asks for unprotection — articles are protected for reasons, so one needs reasons why unprotection is warranted. You say, for instance, that you're trying to "fix" the article — but you're refusing to provide any detail whatsoever about what content in the article needs any fixing. The reason the article was originally protected in the first place is because a new editor repeatedly tried to overwrite the whole thing with a pure LinkedIn résumé for Penikett's current consulting work, while completely eliminating any acknowledgement whatsoever of the fact that Penikett had ever been in politics at all — and if you refuse to explain what you want to fix, I have no way of knowing that you aren't that same editor trying to do the same thing again. This is not me being rude or unprofessional, or failing to do my job — my responsibility on here is to the project, not to you personally, and my job is to enforce the rules, not to just uncritically do every single thing every single user ever asks for. This is the rules: if you want carte blanche to "fix" the article yourself, then you need to explain what it is about the article that needs "fixing". And it's not my job to give you that carte blanche, if you're not following the rules. Bearcat (talk) 18:04, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

Deletion / Redirect -- Todd Wilcox (candidate)
Hi --
I take the point that a candidate for a nomination is not per se notable under Wiki rules. However, if someone like Todd Wilcox (not previously notable) wins the nomination of a major party for a major office (in this case, U.S. Senate), I would strenuously argue that this electoral win pushes him (or her) across the threshold into notability. The idea that a major-party nominee for U.S. Senate is not notable strikes me as absurd. Indeed, look at the precedent of Greg Orman, candidate for Senator from Kansas. Orman was an Independent -- he was never nominated by any political party. Yet he was the main challenger in a U.S. Senate race (Kansas 2014) and a page was approved for him in mid-August 2014, and survives to this day (despite his loss). The fact that voters will be looking to Wikipedia for reliable information about someone running for U.S. Senate should lead the Powers That Be to approve notability for any winner of a major-party nomination, as well as any significant Independent challenger. (You may define significant as you will -- Orman certainly qualified.) The Wilcox piece was intended to use independent sources to describe a new candidate for a major office in a large urban state -- and yes, he had not been notable previously (or no one had written a piece, anyway). I just think there should be some consistency concerning threshold of notability for political candidates. Thank you as always. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GaryWMaloney (talk • contribs) 21:58, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

- please understand that a lot of the media mentions are significant industry publications (both in the US and in Europe & Asia), as well as the significant local media coverage. - Doll skin has now participated in multiple US national tours, is signed to 2 large record labels (Megaforce in the United States and Cargo Records in Europe & Asia), and represented by both a very prominent producer (David Ellefson of Megadeth fame) and a very prominent talent agency (Circle Talent Agency). Thanks for the re-review.
could you please explain...
In this edit you applied a {{primarysources}} tag to the article on Joseph Tezanos. At the time you did so the article had four references, but I don't think any of those references met the definition of WP:PRIMARY.
If Tezanos had written about his experiences, or one of the people he rescued, or who helped him in the rescue, had written about the event, those first hand accounts would be primary sources. But when a writer goes back, and consults multiple documents, multiple sources, and forms an interpretation, I think that meets our definition of WP:SECONDARY
I've added more references. I have not removed the {{primarysources}} tag you added, without checking to see why you thought it was appropriate.
If, for the sake of argument, all four of those references were written by employees of the USCG, I think they would still meet our definition of WP:SECONDARY. Yes, it would natural for employees of the USCG to bring an unconscious bias to their writing, even if a superior hadn't directed them specifically include a bias. But wikipedia contributors couldn't possibily try to restrict themselves to using references that measured up to our goal of neutrality, as proactically ever document out there is unapologetically written from a POV. Isn't that why we have guidelines that tell us how to write unbiased articles from biased references, by using them carefully?

All of these boats will be named after enlisted Coast Guard heroes, who distinguished themselves in USCG or military service. The first 25 have been named, but only 8 have been commissioned...

In addition, I think you may have assumed that Military Times was an official DoD publication. It is not. It is private enterprise. I believe Defense Industry Daily is also a private enterprise.
William Thiessen, the Coast Guard's official historian, is an academic. He holds a PhD, and previously the curator of a museum. I think the CG hired him as an academic, so we should expect academic distance from him. Geo Swan (talk) 21:26, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi Bearcat Trying to figure out what needs to be removed so this entry does not read like an advertisement per your reason for declining approval. I tried to use similar approved e-commerce home decor listings in Wikipedia for reference on what to include: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pepperfry [[3]] [[4]]
Do I remove the Press and Publications? The intent was to show that it is covered in the national press. Please advise so I can resubmit.

Thank you, that was very helpful. Cleaned it up and resubmitted. Left out most of the press mentions because figured it wasn't necessary and other editors could add it in if deemed necessary.

Prince Edward Island provincial electoral districts
According to Election PEI website 3 MLAS Edward Clark, Alan Buchanan, Jeannie Lea had resigned 5 months before the 1996 election — Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.69.55.89 (talk) 14:39, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, we know, and nobody said they didn't. But the vacancies didn't carry over past December 31, 1996 into 1997, which is what it would take to make it useful or necessary to add a vacancy line to the tables in the electoral district articles. The tables are organized only by year, not by month-day-year, so it's only useful to add a vacancy line to that table if the vacancy carried over into a new year, so that the successor's term started in a different year than the predecessor's term ended — if the by-election or the next general election occurred in the same year as the vacancy occurred, then the vacancy line is not valuable in that context. - (a) If you do what? (b) You still haven't given a reason why unprotection is needed at Tony Penikett. Bearcat (talk) 06:57, 9 March 2016 (UTC)
I need add some few touch on the article on one condition that's all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.69.59.204 (talk) 07:46, 9 March 2016 (UTC)
- And yet you still refuse to answer the question of what "touch", or what "condition", needs to be added or adjusted at all. Even though you've been repeatedly told, by everybody who's ever responded to your requests at all, that you're not doing the things you need to do to get what you want, like answering a simple question or following our proper processes.
