Presbyterian Church in the United States of America and Presbyterian Church of the United States
I do not have any proof, but I suspect that the reason why the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America and Presbyterian Church of the United States had similar names is at least in part a reflection of the general trend whereby when secession occurs within Presbyterianism, the seceding party often views itself as the true continuation of the older denomination. One means of doing this is for the new denomination to adopt a name which suggests a status to which they aspire. In the case of the Presbyterian Church in the United States thngs were somewhat complicated as it was originally known as the Presbyterian Church in the Confederate States of America which clearly demarcated it from the Presbyterian Church of the United States. As regards the difference between "of" and "ïn," it may be that the Presbyterian Church of the United States choice of preposition was chosen in view of its historical links to the Church of Scotland. All of this is a bit of a quasi-educated guess however and to really answer the question one would need to look through the denominational records to see if the choice of nomenclature was discussed. Trouble with DYK?
Greetings, Yoninah. I noticed that you recently promoted a DYK I had nominated, Template:Did you know nominations/Mary Docherty; however, it does not appear anywhere on the page T:DYK/Q; I just thought you should know. Technical glitch, perhaps? Regards, Vanamonde93 (talk) 01:30, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

Dhruv Pandove
I have been involved in the DYK review of Dhruv Pandove which is currently in the special holding area for January 9th. If you approve, would you be able to move it to Prep 1, which I calculate is the correct prep area. The nomination was originally for a single article but then a second was added, so could you check the credits as I am a bit confused about the "subpage" parameter. Thanks. Elizabeth Rona
I have another one that I have been working on that could use another pair of eyes. It seems scattered to me, but maybe that's just because I have only been able to grab minutes here and minutes there to work on it since my mom is visiting. If you'd like to input and have time, I'd appreciate the help. I'm thinking she might be another GA candidate. User:SusunW/Elizabeth Rona Won't be around hardly at all tomorrow, but maybe by Thursday I'll have a bit more time to polish it up. Have only 3 photos I know about, p 382 [1] and [2] but am sure all would have to be fair use. How many fair use images can one use in a single article, do you know? This seems vague to me "Multiple items of non-free content are not used if one item can convey equivalent significant information." SusunW (talk) 03:34, 6 January 2016 (UTC)

reduce overlinking? Well, the whole purpose of the hook is to show that a Muslim country has Christian heritage..Makeandtoss (talk) 12:21, 6 January 2016 (UTC)
- @Makeandtoss: I see. Well then, you didn't have to link Jesus Christ, or John the Baptist. Hooks with blue links every few words are distracting to the reader. Yoninah (talk) 13:47, 6 January 2016 (UTC)

Yoninah, I don't see any sign that you promoted the Davina Delor template when you added the hook to Prep 2. Can you please do that? Note that there was a question about it appearing so soon after another hook about a female buddhist at WT:DYK, but I doubt it will prove to be an issue. Yoninah, there has been work on the article in response to your most recent review comments. Can you please check when you have a chance and see where the nomination stands? Hello! Sorry for the inconvenience here, but I am hoping you can re-open Template:Did you know nominations/Corruption in Sudan. I am the article nominator and was working to address the concerns on the page before the holidays. I haven't had as much time over the past few weeks to address it but I have largely done so now, and I believe removed all close paraphrasing. I would like this DYK to get one more chance. Of course, it would be good to have a more complete article. I noticed that there are a couple of points where the content differs. According to the sources that I looked at, her father studied law at the University of Alberta. Also, it appears that her parents may have been already living in Calgary before she was born and so were visiting Russia at the time of her birth. I also found this [3] which suggests that Ernest Borek was teaching biochemistry at City College of New York at the time of his marriage to Kessler; apparently, Borek married his research assistant Sylvia Kerr after his divorce but I didn't find a date. --Big_iron (talk) 17:23, 14 January 2016 (UTC)
- Sorry, I misunderstood; I did not mean to step on anyone's toes. Yoninah, I was wondering if you could take a quick look at this nomination (it's in the special occasion area under January 29) and promote it if possible to the space that Jolly Janner reserved for it in Prep 5. If I hadn't suggested the revised wording for the original hook, which Daniel Case used verbatim, I'd just promote it myself, as I had intended to do when I ran into the issue that I felt needed clarification and a bit of sourcing. However, having been involved, I'd like someone else to check the work done. Many thanks for your help. BlueMoonset (talk) 21:04, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

I've never prepared a DYK area for the main page, but noticed you're the main contributing editor, so hopefully will know what to do here. I suspect the Betty Brosmer image is not properly free; it's marked free on Flickr, but a colorized image, from an album of colorized iconic images, that I doubt the colorizer owns the rights to. I nominated it for deletion on commons. I don't know what to do here ... partly because I'm the nominator of Modest Stein which is another DYK in the same preparation area, so the conflict is obvious. --GRuban (talk) 20:03, 27 January 2016 (UTC)

Template:Did you know nominations/Masa Fukuda
Yoninah, I was wondering whether you could take a look at this two-article nomination.
When I found it, it had been approved, but the bio had significant overlap with the pre-existing choir article. The creator responded by ripping out all of the copied material, but that left Masa Fukada with enormous holes, so I restored some of the overlap and wrote some new bridging material so Fukada's article better represented his life as a musician.
Can you please doublecheck to make sure I haven't made any errors and that the article is 5x expanded with what remains as copied? Ideally, this would end with an approval, if it all works and I haven't missed anything else, but one way or another a new status icon would be welcome whatever it is. (So far as I know the school article has been fine from the beginning.) Thank you very much for whatever you can do. BlueMoonset (talk) 22:53, 7 February 2016 (UTC)

Current DYK preps line-up
PFHLai recently reminded me to be somewhat aware of the time that DYK preps will be viewed on the Main Page. Essentially, preps with odd numbers will be more visible in Africa, Europe and especially the US, whereas preps with even numbers will be more visible in Asia and Oceania. In light of this, I was toying with the idea of swapping our current lead hooks in prep 2 with prep 3 and prep 4 with prep 5. If I'm not mistaken, you chose most of the current lead hooks, so wanted to see your opinion e.g. if I'm missing any underlying reasons for their timing. DYK question
So- I have a couple of questions and you might already have the answers- What is the impact of DYK - should I for example always try to write an article and then create a DYK about it? Or - does it matter/why does is matter? Why do the articles have to be new? Why can't I create a DYK for an article I wrote before I discovered DYK but which has not yet every been proposed..(I can tell that I can't without major overhaul but I'm wondering what the reason for that is, it seems unnecessarily restrictive...) Some thoughts - some questions which I have been thinking...Can you have a DYK like - "Did you know Elizabeth Bloxham was fired from her job in a strongly Unionist area for her politics of Nationalism" if the only citation I have is her own words - not an independent source (it's not in the article because I have only her word for it -though it seems valid?..... ☕ Antiqueight haver 16:53, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

DYK Emily Winifred Dickson
Something like - Did you know that the Students at the College of Surgeons protested at being asked questions on Midwifery by a woman even when she was the exceptional Emily Winifred Dickson, first woman Fellow of the College?
- @Antiqueight: I suggest rewriting it this way:
- ... that students at the Royal College of Surgeons protested at being asked questions on midwifery by a woman – even though she was a Fellow of the College?
Or Did you know that a professor refused to let Emily Winifred Dickson join his University course on the grounds that she had cheated him because that Winifred was a man's name?
- The hook fact has some interest, but the reader has no idea who is Emily Winifred Dickson or the professor, and probably doesn't care, unless you add a short explanatory phrase placing it in context.
Something like that? ☕ Antiqueight haver 00:38, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
OR - Did you know that Mary Ryan, the first woman to be appointed as a professor in either Ireland or Great Britain, could not was not allowed to attend lectures in the university where she was studying for her degree? Women were not yet allowed attend lectures even though they could graduate!
- This hook is very good. But the article is not long enough. The long quote does not count in the 1500-character count.
- In both articles, the references must be filled out with more than just the article title. Use WP:Citation templates. Yoninah (talk) 23:23, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

Olga Rapay
Olga Rapay-Markish intrigues me. Is on the "Artists" red list. Supposedly this guy Peretz Markish is her father, but his file mentions nothing about her (not unusual, IMO). But, it also says his wife was Esther. The records I find for her show her mom was Zinaida Joffe. [7], [8], [9], [10]], [11] Is Zinaida a name for Esther? Rapay died in Israel and I am wondering if there are records there? Seems like this indicates there is an archive there? SusunW (talk) 18:13, 15 March 2016 (UTC)
- @SusunW: here is Peretz Markish's page on the Hebrew Wikipedia: [12]. It says he had one daughter, Olga (born 1930, although other refs say 1929), a ceramic artist, and two sons, Shimon (born 1931), a translator and librarian, and David (born 1938), an author and journalist. His wife, Esther, died in 2010. (Note: Hebrew articles usually lack sourcing, but you can get information to look up elsewhere). No, Zinaida is not a name for Esther. Here is something about Olga in Hebrew; you could plug it into Google Translate, or I could help you with it: Kiev opened an exhibition of porcelain and ceramics by Olga Rapay. Best, Yoninah (talk) 19:43, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

- I'm trying to gather sources before I start on her, and yes, I'd love help with it. If his wife Esther did not die until 2010, I wonder if Zinaida is a first wife? Hmmmmmm. SusunW (talk) 20:00, 15 March 2016 (UTC)
- @SusunW: You're right! Esther had only one son, David. By the way, Olga is listed in Russian sources as Olga Peretsovna Rapay Markish. See also: [13], [14] Yoninah (talk) 20:22, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Lois Galgay Reckitt.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Lois Galgay Reckitt.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Majora (talk) 21:30, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi Yoninah, I'm looking for some advice and thought i'd ask you given your record of bringing WP:Israel related articles up the formal quality scale. Since you've worked on many GAs and DYKs, but haven't worked on an FA as far as I could tell, do you view the latter as simply too time consuming to achieve? DYK Stats question
Hello Yoninah, I recently added Carlos Brewer to the list of Wikipedia:Did you know/Statistics using ErrantX's tool. How does one know the period of time that a DYK was listed on the Main page? I noticed that some entries were calculated based on a 6 or 8 hour period, but I assumed that 12 hours was standard. How does one ascertain the page views per hour statistic? Thanks. NotaBene 鹰百利 Talk 00:32, 17 April 2016 (UTC)
- Just divide by the number of hours it was on the main page. Today most should have been on there for 12. Some older ones will have been 6/8 hours because DYK ran more frequently in the past. --Errant (chat!) 09:23, 17 April 2016 (UTC)

Maxwell House Haggadah
Here's the cover and some pages from the Maxwell House 1933 Haggadah. Was looking for something large enough, not too stained and one that had been lying flat when it was scanned. ;) We hope (talk) 20:42, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
-
- There are quite a few copies of the more modern Haggadah books at eBay but some are quite hard to pin down a date on. I didn't see any pages uploaded there which would let me date them and have a look for copyright marks. Am assuming General Foods continued to copyright each edition since they started doing this circa 1934 from what I saw of their back covers with the copyright notices. Many listed there are fairly recent, so they'd be under copyright. Listing something as "vintage" doesn't tell you much since that's in the eye of the beholder. Have seen items from the 1980's described as "vintage" . :-) The older books look a lot alike--the white covered Haggadah at the link is probably from 1939, but not enough was uploaded to see about the copyright notice. There was a green version out that year too; not sure why there were two different colored covers. The cover started turning to blue in the 1950s--can get you something from a 1951 copy and a 1955 copy. We hope (talk) 23:38, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
