Abraham lincoln
my daughter just googled Abraham Lincoln, which lead her to your wiki site. unfortunately, the background view of the page on Lincoln, is a pornographic picture. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.132.226.243 (talk) 03:35, 14 December 2015 (UTC)

- @Finnusertop: There was a bit of vandalism on a template that transcluded pornographic images to a bunch of articles. While the template has been corrected the image is still cached in a lot of pages (and for whatever reason that cached page only shows up to anon users). I have purged the page and that should fix the problem. The WMF is running a cleaning script to try to purge the rest of the pages but it is going to take a while (5 million pages to go through). For more information please see this ANI thread for more info. --Stabila711 (talk) 04:14, 14 December 2015 (UTC)

Pomegranates
Wikipedia had wrong info about the name of this band. They were listed as being 'Healing Power', which they were for a short time, but changed their name back to Pomegranates. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sosifrk (talk • contribs) 03:40, 14 December 2015 (UTC)

- Hello, IP user. You are not the first person to report this: Srbernadette did just above. The best place to ask about this sort of problem is at the Technical section of the Village Pump. On a quick look, I don't see that anybody has raised this question there already, so it would be a good idea if one of you did. --ColinFine (talk) 09:32, 14 December 2015 (UTC)

WP:Advert and possible copyright infringement
The article on iBario appears to have been written, at least in part, promotionally and does not appear to follow the spirit of WP:Style. External links do not seem to have a good reputation with 3rd party blacklists. A portion of the article appears to promote software piracy:
"Another name for InstallBrain, people can download programs that can read files....It offers free download of copyrighted software like Microsoft Office."
Somebody needs to take a look at this. 198.200.97.222 (talk)

German translation needed
I have done a search for a German rock band (Electric Moon)using the English Wikipedia, and there is nothing. However, If I search on the Deutch page, there is an article. I do not read German. Is there a translator someplace on the Wikipedia site I can use? Thank you! 130.199.3.165 (talk) 14:59, 14 December 2015 (UTC)
- Wikipedia languages are edited independently and we don't have machine translation but you can use Google Translate at https://translate.google.com/. Enter https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_Moon in the left box, select German to English, and click the link in the right box. Note that the quality of machine translation varies a lot. If you use Internet Explorer then you can also install Google Toolbar for easier access to Google translations. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:23, 14 December 2015 (UTC)

Cary Fukunaga
Cary Fukunaga ( | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
From his mother: I do not have a middle name. I was a history PROFESSOR at the university level. I guided Cary away from Kenya to some place like Ghana as a safer place to make Beasts of No Nation. I edited the script for Sin Nombre many times to make it presentable to a film company like Focus, though never credited for it. I gave Cary $5000 seed money for his first film that got attention, the short, Victoria para Chino. Cary started writing film scripts at age 13 and had two goals: snowboarding and film. He made the right choice. I became disabled by a severe auto accident in 2008 which put me in a trauma unit and disabled me, though several surgeries, physical therapy, and the right medications make life almost normal again. However, it put me in the poor house and for that, and something else that my son will never resolve with me, he has shut me out of his life. I was so broke when the first polar vortex hit New England in January 2014 that I ran out of oil heat money and asked him for a LOAN until some money came in from my godfather's trust. He treated me as if he were a bank and asked for everything a bank would to get a personal loan. Refer back to the $5000 I gave Cary without reserve to make Victoria para Chino though he spent a fortune each year on snowboard equipment, clothing, gear, travel, and trips. He even asked me if I budgeted (oil was ridiculously high in 2014) even though I made it through the first years after divorcing his father with NO child support and then later again, made it just fine WHEN I COULD WORK. Living on a low fixed income from SSDI, unable to earn more, cost me the loss of four expensive rental properties that I could not maintain nor hire someone to maintain. He appears to care so much about "people" yet the person who did the most for him as a child is persona non grata. Since our last conversation regarding my shortage of cash for oil heat, I had to keep the house in New England colder than normal and ended up with the flu, double pneumonia, and a pulmonary embolism, staying in ICU for 2 days then staying at the hospital on IVs for various drugs another 4 days. It took weeks to recover my breath and any strength I had managed to rebuild from the auto accident. Not a year later, a dangerous situation in a place I was staying caused me to fall with my arms fall. I thought I had just bruised the knee and elbow that took the hardest hit and had a muscle pull. That last bit didn't get better so I consulted another physician. I had a hernia and I had part of my internal organs coming out of it, which he pushed back in and arranged for surgery ASAP. Unfortunately, surgery carries risks and I had internal hemorrhaging which required a trip to ER and it took almost 24 hours to do a blood transfusion of 3 bags and put in a drain in my abdomen to monitor the situation. At some point, this very "caring" man will not have a mother and will have never shown her any care since he started down his road to fame. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.90.3.86 (talk) 23:17, 14 December 2015 (UTC)

Please fix up ref. number 3 on this page. Thanks Srbernadette (talk) 03:03, 15 December 2015 (UTC)
- The reference had the url repeated as the title; hence the 'external link in title' error message. However it appeared to be to a forum and therefore of little if any use. Two other refs. at same point so removed the error producing one. Eagleash (talk) 03:13, 15 December 2015 (UTC)
- Again a reminder that when the word "help" in the error message is shown in blue it means that it is a wikilink. In this case the link goes to Help:CS1 errors#param has ext link. On the Wiki Page "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kochi", which is about Kochi, the URL directing to Sunrise Hospital is not the one located in Kochi. It is a hospital located in Nevada, United States. - I just tested on an 5s and 6 without issue on both the built in Safari Browser, as well as Chrome. However I have seen this in the past and what I recall the issue being was that if the page wasn't done loading yet (ie you could see content, but it wasn't 100% done loading) then it would give the sense that it took two clicks to follow a link. Hope that helps. Tiggerjay (talk) 18:58, 15 December 2015 (UTC)
- This evening I was on my iPad and discovered that if you used the 'desktop mode' in safari it does require two clicks to enter any link. However if you use the "mobile site" it only requires one. Try giving the mobile friendly site a try. Safari should automatically go there, but if it doesn't you can manually do it by using a link on the bottom of any page. Deleted edition for copyright
Hello. I just added a new sub-heading in the Greenpeace's page and it was deleted due copyright. The information I added came from an assignment that I had to do about "Sustainability in tech companies" where I found information in the original magazine, but every single word was said by my own, nothing printed.
This is what I added:
Cool IT Leaderboard
In May 2009, Greenpeace started evaluating IT companies through Cool IT Leaderboard. The central role these companies are playing gives the opportunity to drive changes in the energy sector and achieve a significant reduction in the greenhouse gases that cause the climate change.
The Leaderboard examines how the leading IT companies can use their influence to drive these changes, which in the 6th edition the sector shows slow but steady improvements in offering new solution that may achieve important progress. There are companies willing to make major investments to drive clean energy deployment and the number of companies that are increasing their commitment, betting for renewable energies, is also growing.
However, the lack of leadership in demanding the policy changes for companies’ investments in a cleaner energy and technology allows some utility monopolies15 to remain committed to polluting using coal or nuclear power. Those monopolies are also supporters to right-wing groups16 which are one of the biggest political obstacles to a transition to a renewable energy and economy.
The important role of IT companies can allow them to act take the leadership and as a backbone of the modern energy infrastructure to combat those monopolies. Big companies such as Google, Wipro, Sprint and Softbank have prioritized changing the laws and policies that govern the energy system and incentivise investments in advanced energy efficiency technologies and renewable energy that will have a critical impact in many countries to determine a meaningful break in energy policies.
In the Leaderboard we can find one main ranking with the overall scores and another three rankings for each one of the evaluated areas where we can find the top companies contributing in each.
Could you tell me what part seems to be copyrighted and how should I change it in order to make a legal edition in the page?
If you could help me I'd be really grateful as I'd like to add something similar for "Guide to Greener Electronics". Uriign (talk) 11:24, 15 December 2015 (UTC)

Need for 'Galby' Disambig page & Primary Topic
I just tried to find info on the Leicestershire village that is known as either Gaulby or Galby using the latter spelling and found myself instead taken to List of Inheritance Cycle characters which seems to be about the Eragon (film). 'Galby' is not even mentioned on this page but I guess it is short for 'Galbatorix'?
=> To say that the primary Galby topic is List of Inheritance Cycle characters seems tenuous to say the least to me. Judging by google the top two uses for 'Galby' are:
- the village Gaulby
- the surname Galby (probably derived from the village name)
Am I missing something about the Eragon film and the word Galby? If not I would like to create a 'Galby (disambig)' page and set either the village or the disambig page to be primary topic.
What do others think? Does this sound reasonable? Sliven2000 (talk) 13:15, 15 December 2015 (UTC)
- Sounds entirely reasonable. Proceed. Finnusertop (talk | guestbook | contribs) 13:22, 15 December 2015 (UTC)
- I've changed the Galby page to be a disambig page now. I guess if anyone can come up with an overwhelming reason why the Eragon film character is primary we can change it back easier enough.. Sliven2000 (talk) 13:50, 15 December 2015 (UTC)

digital not-for-free publications
I can read on Wikipedia:Verifiability: Source material must have been published, the definition of which for our purposes is "made available to the public in some form"; this includes material such as documents in publicly accessible archives, inscriptions on monuments, gravestones, etc., that are available for anyone to see., which include also printed book or other papery publications that are available if you buy it: they're available for anyone who are willing to pay in order to read them. So I think an on-line archive, database or publications could be used as Wikipedia source even when you'll have to pay a fee or you must sign up to a site if you want to consult them, as long as the chance to pay or register himself is open to anyone who want. Is my gess right, or not? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.57.251.133 (talk) 22:38, 15 December 2015 (UTC)

- Hi Jwbeauch. When you are reading an article and see a references section near the bottom populated by a series of numbered citations, you might think that if you edit the page, you will see those citations typed in that section and be able to edit them. However, normally what you will see is markup similar to this:
==References==
{{reflist}} or<references />
The text of citations is actually in the body of the article, directly next to statements or paragraphs the citations support, using
<ref>...</ref>
tags, which display as Footnotes (e.g.[1][2]) when you are reading an article. The template code shown above in the references section collates and displays all of the citations within the article in a numbered list in which the numbers correspond to the footnote numbers in the text. By clicking on the ^ symbol next to a citation display, you can easily find exactly where in the body of the article the citation text appears in order to edit it. For more, please see Help:Referencing for beginners.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 23:29, 15 December 2015 (UTC)
Underlined links
I have noticed that links are not underlined unless you hover over them if there is no one specifically logged in, but always underlined if an account *is* logged in. I would rather have them all behave like the former, if possible. Is there any setting that I can tweak to change this like I want it? Joseph398 (talk) 23:41, 15 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Joseph398: If you go to your preferences and select "Appearance", you will see a section "Advanced options". The first item in it is "Underline links"; does selecting "Never" and saving produce the result you want? (I'm not sure I understand exactly what you're looking for.) sir i created my page Dr. Khan Abdul Haseeb but it showing deleted . please help me to bring my page again — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dr khan 24 (talk • contribs) 06:07, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi there and welcome to Wikipedia. That page was deleted in accordance to two polices: No indication of importance (A7) and Unambiguous advertising or promotion (G11) - also see WP:SPAM. While i cannot see the deleted content, these usually apply when someone is attempting to create an article, in this case, about themselves. Most people have a problem writing an article about themselves (or someone close to them) due to a conflict of interest. Furthermore as a new user, you're unfamiliar with the manual of style and other guides as it relates to the proper format and context of a Wikipedia article. May I suggest you go over to Articles for Creation and after reading more over there, you may want to suggest an article be created for Dr. Khan Abdul Haseeb. Tiggerjay (talk) 07:27, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
- In addition to what Tiggerjay wrote above, you can ask the deleting administrator, Delldot, restore a copy of the page to Wikipedia's draft section. Our draft section is special in that it is not indexed by Google, and editors can work on articles there without immediate fear of deletion. However, if the page is too promotional, Delldot may refuse. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 09:53, 16 December 2015 (UTC)

- I suspect, based on your question, that you found one of our over 5 million articles and thought we were affiliated in some way with that subject. Please note that you are at Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is for asking questions related to using or contributing to Wikipedia itself. Thus, we have no special knowledge about the subject of your question. You can, however, search our vast catalogue of articles by typing a subject into the search field on the upper right side of your screen. If you cannot find what you are looking for, we have a reference desk, divided into various subject areas, where asking knowledge questions is welcome. Best of luck. --Jayron32 14:46, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
Am I allowed to ask somewhere on Wikipedia for Help?
Recently i filed a Arbcom case based on 1RR violation. However, now several editors who are for the most part are all involved to some degree reply to the case and have different opinions on content. I am aware of canvassing, but is there a way to ask for uninvolved editors to participate in this Arbcom case? Thanks. prokaryotes (talk) 17:13, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Prokaryotes: That would likely be frowned upon. Even if you feel like its a good idea, its still canvasing. --allthefoxes (Talk) 18:08, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
How do I create a "Collection" in Wikipedia? And why does the "search" box on the right not work when I am seeing others' "Collections"?
Hola. I need suggestions on the following three questions:::
1. What do these two page show on Wikipedia?: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Gather/ and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Gather/all/public
2. Why does the "Search" box on the top right of the page not take any input when these two pages are open?
3. How do I create my own "Collection" on Wikipedia which the public can see?
Gracias. Xender Lourdes (talk) 18:02, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, Xender Lourdes. This is an experimental feature, which is being piloted on mobiles; but the relevant page, mw:Gather, says that the project is currently suspended. --ColinFine (talk) 21:54, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
- The claim it's suspended is from July and appears obsolete. The feature is active at Mobile if you select Beta in Mobile settings. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:59, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
Thank you ColinFine. Thank you PrimeHunter. I will try the Beta option out. I also want to know how do you leave a red notification on my talk page notification when you leave an answer for me? Xender Lourdes (talk) 12:08, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Xender Lourdes: See "Mentions" at Wikipedia:Notifications#Triggering events. It's possible "suspended" means the developers are not working on the Beta version of Gather but what they have is allowed to run. I don't know how well it works. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:43, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
I read the link. Very helpful @PrimeHunter:. Please tell me if you got a notification on your notification link? Xender Lourdes (talk) 12:47, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

- @Xender Lourdes: Yes I got a notification. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:08, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
Rod Stewart "Biography"
Hi, Rod Stewart is appearing in your list of celebrities who have or had oral cancer. I was surprised to see him on this list because I know he had THYROID CANCER, NOT oral cancer. His write up even says this. I worked at a cancer hospital for years...oral/mouth cancer and thyroid cancer are two very different things!
You should remove Rod Stewart from the oral cancer list. Why? Because (a) it is inaccurate and (b) thyroid cancer is WAY more treatable than oral/mouth cancer. If you were going to pick a cancer to have, thyroid would be the one to pick--extremely high success rate. Oral survival is much lower, especially because 90% of the time it reoccurs with a vengeance. Thyroid cancer does not. Side note, I am ASTONISHED at ALL OF THE CELEBRITIES on the oral cancer list. Wow. But, I hope the list is ACCURATE because Rod Stewart definitely is not! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.158.86.3 (talk) 20:15, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
- As you have pointed out, our article on Rod Stewart does not mention oral cancer. So, if we have a list of celebrities who have had oral cancer, he should not appear on it. But I have been unable to find such a list. Can you give a link to it? I did find this page, which appears to be mistaken, and is nothing to do with Wikipedia. reference for https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Todd_Charmont
hello, i created the page Todd Charmont - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Todd_Charmont. i tried to reference Wikipedia's page from the movie SON OF SAUL (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Son_of_Saul) which stars Todd Charmont seen on the page as actor number 5. His position should be 4th. Can that be changed?
I am not sure why his name does not come up in red when I visit the page.
I added the reference https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Son_of_Saul
however it was not excepted.
Is this not a good reference?
others would be
http://sonyclassics.com/sonofsaul/
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1052273/
I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I have read the instructions however I seem to be doing something wrong, can you help?
Thank you

Issue with Wpiands, who wrongly assume original research, though it clearly is not.
There is no user here called Wpiands. And you don't say what edit you are asking about. Can you please be more explicit? Maproom (talk) 22:14, 16 December 2015 (UTC)

Question for administrator
<Hello, i need an experienced wpuser, actually an admin, regarding this issue. there is the wikipedia article called List of Islamist terrorist attacks. this list lists several reported terrorist attacks of islamist. Now somehow there is the believe that one may only add an incident if one can find a source that is really using the excact literal words of "terror" and "islamist". but this is not how this works. there can be a terrorist attack of an islamist organisation and a very detailed article about it, which obviosly is pointing out to a terror act by islamist. merely the excact words "terrorist" and "islamist" arent given. this is definetly no original research if you add this incident, since the source is very clear about what this incident was about and just used differen terms, yet with the excact same result and conclusion. however there are several wpdians who permanently try to delete every entry that, according to their point of view is original research. but actually isnt. id be very glad if there is an admin who could have a look on there andmake finally clear to anyone that there is no issue with adding sources and entries of incidents to a list as long as the, in this case two criterias "terrorist" and "islamist" are unequivocally given, even if not the literal words are in the text, but similiar ones with the same intend. thank you.>
--Joobo (talk) 20:53, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hello Joobo. What you have is a content dispute, for which you should follow the steps of the Dispute resolution procedure. For this purpose, an administrator is no different from any other user - you, me, or anybody else. They do not have any authority or power to rule in disputes, which are handled by consensus according to the policy. You would do well to remember that Wikipedia is a collaborative project, and an argument of the form "I am right and they are wrong and I need somebody in authority to tell them so" is not helpful. (To be clear: I am not arguing either for or against your position: I am pointing out how things work in Wikipedia) --ColinFine (talk) 22:07, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
- I agree with User:ColinFine. This is a content dispute. Discuss on the article talk page. If that is not productive, request a third opinion, or request moderated discussion at the dispute resolution noticeboard. Administrative action is only in order if a content dispute becomes a conduct dispute due to disruptive editing or edit-warring. Robert McClenon (talk) 23:47, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
street signs that make apology of the Franco dictatorship
https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Street_signs&uselang=it#Spain I think it is unacceptable that the street signs of Spain are represented by some referring to dictator Francisco Franco (Generalísimo). Most of these street signs have been changed since 1975. - You can see all the street signs from Spain here: commons:Category:Street signs in Spain. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 22:17, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
- I don't know Commons policies for galleries but I guess you can just replace the images with others in commons:Category:Street signs in Spain. They were added in 2006 when there was probably far fewer images to pick from. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:39, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
- What you have linked to is a gallery of all images which have been uploaded to Wikimedia Commons and classified as "street signs". They are certainly not intended to be representative. I admit it is rather surprising that there are only five from Spain. I don't know if there are in fact more pictures of Spanish street signs there, which have not been categorised; or if it's just that only five have been uploaded, and two of those are for streets named after the late dictator. Hello Wikipedia. You all are amazing and I appreciate so much all you do!! I had posted a page about Nancy Renfro but it was deleted and I'm not sure why. When I go to your delete page and enter "Nancy Renfro" as it was posted the query comes back that it's not found. Would you have any other suggestions for me? Many thanks!! Dr John Reid
Your bio of Dr John Reid omits the important distinction between a doctorate and a Dr with medical qualifications. It is well known within the NHS that when appointed Minister of Health, he insisted on being referred to as 'Dr' John Reid. Abuse of such a title is not welcome within the Health Service. Subsequently John Reid had to drop the title of 'Dr' as being totally inappropriate with anyone in the healthcare system who is not a medically qualified person. Using the title from the doctorate is, to put it mildly, 'pulling the wool over peoples'(patients') eyes' — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.152.39.8 (talk) 23:02, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
- Is the article in question John Reid, Baron Reid of Cardowan? (We have many articles on people named John Reid, but he is the one who was Minister of Health in the United Kingdom.) If there was a publicized controversy about his use of a questionable title of "Dr", you may discuss on the article talk page, providing a reliable source, or may edit the article, being prepared to discuss your edits on the talk page. I have an idea to help raise money for Wikipedia
Hi,
I don't know who I should send this too, but it occurs to me that there must be a lot of people out there who run businesses and use/support Wikipedia. Why not create an affiliate program that allows those businesses to market the site on their own site [making it a charitable deduction] with a "Help Wikipedia" page/portal and a catchy logo/tag line such as "We are Friend's of Wikipedia"
Allow the clients of that business to add a contribution to Wikipedia in their payment to the business. Alternatively just have the badge and the donation portal

- Hi, the article was mainly written by Scanlan. You can ask them for more information. Also you can see, on the bottom of the article, that he has used this Dailt Telegraph obituary and this page on the Internet Movie Database. All the best, Taketa (talk) 12:53, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
- The only source cited in the Olga Lowe article – though it is cited ten times – is her daily Telegraph obituary, which says "Later that year [1959], Olga Lowe married Peter Todd. The marriage was dissolved in 1962". Maproom (talk) 12:58, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
Edit clashes
Yesterday, here on this page, I replied to a posting, and was surprised to find that my reply appeared with a slightly earlier reply above it. I thought I might have somehow failed to notice the earlier reply. But today, immediately above, it has happened again, and this time I am sure that Taketa's reply was not there when I clicked the "edit" link. Has something changed in the way edit clashes are handled? Maproom (talk) 13:04, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Maproom, this has happened to me in the past before - did you preview before saving? I only ask as I suspect it is something to do with the preview updating the section and bringing in the new edit.... -- samtar whisper 13:10, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, I previewed. Taketa's reply may have been there in the preview – I only looked at the lowest paragraph, to check the spelling, formatting, etc. (and even so I missed a couple of typos). Maproom (talk) 13:14, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

My pages keep getting flagged, PLEASE HELP!
I am trying to develop my wikipedia editing skills for my resume and decided to begin writing on any company, association or small business in my town (jupiter, fl) so that I could maybe help emphasis our town and those doing well in it. I started with a company down the road from my husbands work. I do not have any affiliation with them, I just picked them at random while visiting my husbands work (also unrelated, with no connection). i called and asked if they would allow me to create one for them (after finding through a search that they did not have one) and they agreed. To describe who they are and what they do is a bit difficult without using the wording that they have on their websites, so i called and asked permission and they said i could use whatever they had online. If I need to reword those few places that I did use their previously created content, then I can work on doing that, but I know they'd rather me word it a specific way as they are a non-profit and have to be described a certain way for legal reasons. If someone could please help me figure out what I'm doing wrong and how to become better at wikipedia, that'd be extremely helpful. I don't want to continue to make these kinds of mistakes when creating new content. Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiContentEditor (talk • contribs) 17:18, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

- (edit conflict)Hello, WikiContentEditor. I'm afraid you have some misunderstandings about Wikipedia. First, Wikipedia is not an appropriate place for anybody's resume. If you mean an article about you, then we could have one if you meet the criteria for notability - basically, that several people unconnected with you have published substantial information about you in reliable places such as major newspapers or books from reputable publishers - but you should not write it: autobiography is strongly discouraged.
- Secondly, "emphasising" a town and those doing well in it (or anything else) is not part of our purpose here. We write neutral articles on subjects which people unconnected with the subjects have already published about them. Wikipedia has almost no interest in what a person, a business, or anything else says or wants to say about themselves: it is only interested in what independent people have published about them. So to write about those businesses you should find independent articles in reliable sources such as major newspapers, and write the articles based on these (but not copying their words). Using material from a company's own website is usually inappropriate, except for uncontroversial factual data like places and dates, if they can't be found in an independent source. --ColinFine (talk) 17:43, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
- (edit conflict)Hello, ColinFine. I am simply trying to learn wikipedia to BETTER my personal resume, not to write about me or anyone or anything specific. There will be no posts about me or any autobiography's. I would just like to take a moment to thank you for better clarifying what exactly wikipedia does and does not do. That's all I really needed, some solid direction so that I could clear up any confusion on my behalf. So if I would like to create a page from scratch about an organization for example, I would need to write all of the article myself, as original content, and link to resources that are independent of the organization (like a news article done about them, etc). Am I understanding correctly? WikiContentEditor (talk) 18:14, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
