1960 New York air disaster crash in Park Slope
Hi Anna. According to Pillar of Fire by Nathaniel Altman in the Park Slope Reader, the plane split and crashed around 122 and 126 Sterling Place, just below the corner of 7th Ave. I saw you put it at 8th Ave, so I changed it back to 7th to reflect the source. Best regards, --Howrealisreal 15:25, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- Really? I thought it was Eighth, but I could be wrong. — AnnaKucsma (Talk to me!) 15:31, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
Hmmm.. Well let me know if you find a source for that. I'll be interested to give it a look. Take care. --Howrealisreal 15:47, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
changes
Hi Anna, we're sorry to bug you but in fact I was showing a friend how quickly even minor changes to Wikipedia get edited. I was doing it to prove how effective the peer-editing system is though, forgive? Your quick change (less than 5 minutes, bravo) was an awesome example. We were wondering, how did you know notice my change so quickly? Were you just browsing around? Best, J0E
- Hi, JOE. The English language article is on my Watchlist, a feature that comes along with a Wikipedia account. Basically, you can "watch" pages that you're interested in; by clicking a particular link you can see any changes made recently to the pages you've so bookmarked. There's no minimum, and I don't think there's a maximum (I'm pushing 300). And thanks for noticing the reverts. — AnnaKucsma (Talk to me!) 17:23, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
Requested move
I apologize if this is canvassing, but you recently edited Grand Army Plaza-Prospect Park (IRT Eastern Parkway Line). You might be interested in or have something to contribute to Talk:Grand Army Plaza-Prospect Park (IRT Eastern Parkway Line)#Requested move. --NE2 16:16, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Link trimming at Grand Army Plaza
You're a recent contributor to this article; I'm proposing trimming some of the linkage in the lead, with the discussion here. Also, any other comment on the article's composition, and areas of improvement you may care to entertain. Thank you for your help. Take care! Gosgood 16:06, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Manual of Style (national varieties of English)
Hello, I'm contacting you because you have contributed to Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (national varieties of English) User:Kevin Murray has called the page a "rejected proposal", but that can be reversed. I think the page might need to have the general guidelines rather than just examples. I've started a draft at User:Joeldl/Varieties of English Draft. Let me know what you think. List of people who have appeared on Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!'s "Not My Job" segment
Hello, AnnaKucsma. I've just nominated a page you've created, List of people who have appeared on Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!'s "Not My Job" segment, for deletion (the nomination page is here). The list was created back in August 2006. Feel free to add any comments to the nomination page; your opinion regarding the matter is appreciated. Fair use disputed for Image:Blackwater (Altan album).jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Blackwater (Altan album).jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 02:30, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

AnnaKucsma's note for the above two entries
See also, Wikipedia:Non-free content#Acceptable images
Text for rationale:
=== Fair use in [[album article reference here]] ===
Though this image is subject to copyright, its use is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because:
# It is a low resolution image of an album cover.
# It does not limit the image owner's rights to sell the album.
# Copies of the image could not be used to make illegal copies of the album.
# It is used to illustrate an article about the album for which this image is the cover art.

In the morning, there are exciting plans for a behind-the-scenes guided tour of the American Museum of Natural History.
In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to discussing meta:Wikimedia New York City issues (see the last meeting's minutes).
In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and (weather permitting) hold a late-night astronomy event at Columbia's telescopes.
You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list.

Banners on Talk:Bill O'Reilly (commentator)
Your 'clean-up' of banners on Talk:Bill O'Reilly (commentator) appears to have had the effect of causing some of these project banners to be inaccessible and this article to drop off the lists of the affected projects (though the code for them is still there). Unlimited time offer (probably)
Hello Anna. I don't know if you've seen any mention of it, but the Wikipedia:Rollback feature is being given on request to all editors. Basically it reverts all the edits by an editor to the last version by someone else with one click and is useful for reverting vandalism, much faster than undo or Twinkle or the like. The ghastly details are on the page I linked to. Would you like me to enable it for you? Happy New Year, Angus McLellan (Talk) 21:59, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Fit_as_a_Fiddle.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Fit_as_a_Fiddle.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 15:44, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

New Project
Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.
If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 02:57, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Listas
[1] What's that all about? Haukur (talk) 20:04, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- The "Listas" parameter is used to sort biography articles by their subjects' family names. In this example, so that the article shows up in the B's (under Bonne-Carrere), rather than in the G's (under Guillaume). It can also be used to sort articles correctly where the family name doesn't come at the end of the name (as in this example), or where the article title contains a disambiguation (as in this example). — AnnaKucsma Speak! 20:12, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, but not everyone has a family name (I don't). Don't apply it indiscriminately. Haukur (talk) 20:37, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- I try not to use it "indiscriminately", but there are always some cases that will trip up anyone. (Really, there is no such thing as infallible on Wikipedia -- but that's beside the point.) If I was incorrect in the case you mentioned (or any other case), you can always correct the order. — AnnaKucsma Speak! 20:41, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, but not everyone has a family name (I don't). Don't apply it indiscriminately. Haukur (talk) 20:37, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

- Thanks for the edit on George Hooper. Favour though, I took the text straight off the Help page, so maybe you could suggest for that to be updated. Wikipedia:Requested_pictures/People which is sans "Listas" parameter. Thx billinghurst (talk) 16:18, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for noting this page. The CIA and the Cult of Intelligence
Hello. I'm contacting you and other members of WikiProject Books in order to find if you are interested in collaborating to expand and improve The CIA and the Cult of Intelligence article to make it worthy of becoming a featured article candidate, in light of the fact that it is the first book the U.S. government ever went to court to censor before its publication. --Loremaster (talk) 22:21, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- In theory, I'd be interested in helping out, as I feel books deserve good Wikipedia articles just as much as examples of other forms of media do. Albert Alexander
I noticed you did some very minor editing on an article about Albert Alexander... and I realize you're probably not the one to appeal to... but the article on penicillin clearly states there were other patients before him who were treated with the antibiotic. I'm not necessarily a stickler for consistency, but it should be noted that "first notable patient" is not the same as "first patient." Who should/would I get to correct this? I would, except I wouldn't truly know where to begin.

Are you aware that people who have Arabic names in the traditional Arabic styles do not use the European lastname-surname style of inherited surnames? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Geo Swan (talk • contribs) 16:57, 2009 May 29
Your assistance please...
I am trying to figure out how many individuals who have Arabic names have had the sort order for their names set to European style of inherited lastname-surnames. I know it has been a long time, but could you help me understand how you came to Europeanize the sort order for Aamer Hanif?
I didn't know much about Arabic names before I started working on individuals with Arabic names. I still wouldn't call myself an expert. But I know enough to know that very few individuals with Arabic style names should be sorted in the Europeanized style.
Is there any chance you remember if you Europeanized this name after a suggestion from a robot assisted editing tool?

Reviewer
Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Tiptoety talk 06:28, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Category issue
Hi Anna. I note your removal of Demeter and Ceres (mythology) from the category "Agricultural deities". Agricultural goddesses are or should be categorised as a subset of Agricultural deities (which should include both genders). I'm therefore reverting. Regards. Haploidavey (talk) 20:30, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
- I mean simply that Agricultural deities of both genders exist. Ceres is a Roman goddess and a Roman agricultural goddess and one of many agricultural deities (of either gender) in various mythologies and religions. Likewise Demeter, of course. At least, this is how I understand the purpose of categories but please, correct me if I'm wrong here. Haploidavey (talk) 20:51, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
-
- OK, I completely failed to appreciate the Agricultural deities header sub-division. There might be a few indeterminately gendered agricultural deities; but as Ceres (mythology) and Demeter aren't among them, I'll revert. Haploidavey (talk) 12:45, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

Better source request for File:Horse with a Heart.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Horse with a Heart.jpg. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 21:09, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

A question
Where do you get a listing of articles that you add work-groups to? Bgwhite (talk) 22:31, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
- Ahhh, I see. Dang I was hoping of a nice way to see pages without a work-group
- So, the big question. Do you enjoy toying away at talk pages? Would you like to do more talk pages faster? Would you like adding more parameters to talk pages? Do you want to become a WikiGnome, hide in the shadows and never have a life? Then take the blue pill and follow me down into AWB land where evil and misery awaits. Survey
Hi Anna!
I have put together a survey for female editors of Wikipedia (and related projects) in order to explore, in greater detail, women's experiences and roles within the Wikimedia movement. It'd be wonderful if you could participate!
It's an independent survey, done by me, as a fellow volunteer Wikimedian. It is not being done on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation. I hope you'll participate!
Just click this link to participate in this survey, via Google!
Any questions or concerns, feel free to email me or stop by my user talk page. Also, feel free to share this any other female Wikimedians you may know. It is in English, but any language Wikimedia participants are encouraged to participate. I appreciate your contributions - to the survey and to Wikipedia! Thank you! Global account
Hi AnnaKucsma! As a Steward I'm involved in the upcoming unification of all accounts organized by the Wikimedia Foundation (see m:Single User Login finalisation announcement). By looking at your your account, I realized that you don't have a global account yet. In order to secure your name, I recommend you to create such account on your own by submitting your password on Special:MergeAccount and unifying your local accounts. If you have any problems with doing that or further questions, please don't hesitate to ping me with {{ping|DerHexer}}. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 00:16, 30 December 2014 (UTC)

You are invited to join us at Barnard College for Wikipedia Day NYC 2015, a Wikipedia celebration and mini-conference for the project's 14th birthday. In addition to the party, the event will be a participatory unconference, with plenary panels, lightning talks, and of course open space sessions. We also hope for the participation of our friends from the Free Culture movement and from educational and cultural institutions interested in developing free knowledge projects.
We especially encourage folks to add your 5-minute lightning talks to our roster, and otherwise join in the "open space" experience! Newcomers are very welcome! Bring your friends and colleagues! --Pharos (talk) 21:58, 9 March 2015 (UTC) |
