The Shannara Chronicles is an upcoming American television series by MTV set to premiere in January 2016.[1] The filming of 10-episode first season wrapped in New Zealand in June 2015, and the first trailer debuted on July 10, 2015. Alfred Gough and Miles Millar developed the series, based on the Shannara novels series.[2] Stars are Ivana Baquero,[3] Manu Bennett,[4] Austin Butler, Poppy Drayton, Emelia Burns and John Rhys-Davies.
Sonar Entertainment acquired TV rights to the Shannara universe in 2012.[5] In December 2013 it was announced a series based on the second book published, The Elfstones of Shannara, was being produced for MTV.[6][7] During the Shannara Chronicles panel at San Diego Comic Con in July 2015, a teaser trailer was revealed,[8] giving audiences a first look at the sets and characters. A television version of the trailer was shown during the 2015 MTV Music Awards.[9][10]
Terry Brooks has stated in interview that he is happy with the way his story has been adapted.[11]
