Ours is a beautiful village, 'Rohini', this place is now combined Ward no. 10(mostly) and Ward no.11 of Deoghar Municipal Corporation, I still call it a village as it doesn't have awkwardness of towns and cities. But we do have all amenities. Towns like Deoghar and Jasidih are just a few (4-5) kilometers away; we do have independent water supply system, almost all mobile towers for convenient connectivity and a pair of two large beautiful parks for recreation, Bank & ATM, Petrol Pump. We are at Mainline Railway route and can depart for all part of the country any time, a state highway passes through Rohini which leads to the State Capital.
We have environmental plus points too. Either-side Rivers (Dharwa & Ajay) and a number of water ponds provide it a healthy water layer. Also this place full of trees, open lands and many mango orchards keeps local air fresh and pollution free. Apart from these we could feel proud of its glorious history. Ours is land of historical significance. This used to be a State (Monarch) in times ago and had got preference over present Deoghar in that time. ’Rohiniya Katha’ is very popular measurementy unit of land property.
The great (soldier) Revolution of 1857 started from Rohini here in undivided Bihar and then broke out in the state. We all have discussed a lot about this before in this group. This place has birthplace of Sri Bhuvneshwar Pandey and many other renowned freedom fighter of Independence movement. Former foreign Secretary Mr. Muchkund Dubey got his academic education in Rohini high School, a very popular institution of that time in this region. Even Businessmen from Rohini have great amount of goodwill in Deoghar Market. For example starting from Satsang Gate through to VIP Chowk almost all commercial outlets belong to Rohinians.
Inspired of the history the present youth brigade of Rohini is very competitive. The guys are doing marvelous in general competitions, defense services and in engineering too. Lots of boys have been selected in these sectors and many other are to achieve their results.
One more thing which is important to recall a few month ago Rohini was opposed to be in Municipal Corporation, but the being of Rohini in MC Deoghar now proving better. Our Rohini is in the way of development in the supervision of ours respected Ward Commissioner Rita Devi Chaurasia. Infrastructure are building rapidly here, for instance, Contruction of PCC in station road, Mandal Tola and in Chanku Jha gulley, street lights in roads, regular cleaning of drains, Running of Liabrary etc.
About 7 kms from the Deoghar headquarters is the historical village of Rohini that was once the nerve centre of the first world war of Independence in the Santhal Pargana region. History has it that there was a rebellion in the 5th Irregular Cavalry of Army in Rohini in June 1857, in which Adjutant Sir Sermon Lesslie of the Regiment was murdered.
Commandant Major McDonald and Dr Grant were alo injured in this mutiny. On 16th July in the same year at Joradih Rohini, three rebels against the British Raaj - Amanat Ali, Salamat Ali and Seikh Haroon were hanged from a tree for taking part in the mutiny. This spread like wild fire even to the 5th Battalion of Bhagalpur. They too joined the rebellion in Rohini and marched to Bounsi where the 32 Motive infantry was operational. How ever a word of this under current spread mutiny reached the ears of the British officers, who quelled it with an iron hand. This was a big jolt to the efforts of the mutineers.
The Rohini Shahid Smarak is a tribute to the martyrs who laid down their lives here, fighting against the British yoke. A memorial stands amidst a park that transports the visitors to the by gone era of pre-independence steeping them in patriotic fervour.
How to Reach You can reach the site from the town through easily available means of public transport as auto rikshaws or hired taxis.
