"It is a difficult task to give novelty to what is old, authority to what is new, brilliance to the common-place, light to the obscure, attraction to the stale, credibility to the doubtful..."
Ipigott is short for Ian Pigott. Born in Newcastle in the north east of England, I am now retired and share my time mainly between Denmark and Luxembourg where I have lived since 1973. Before that, I was in Montreal, Canada.
My principal interests are IT and culture in the widest sense, multilingualism, machine translation, history, new energy resources, public speaking, walking, cycling and exploring the quieter areas of Europe, in particular - but not exclusively - in Denmark, France and Luxembourg. I also try to encourage ordinary citizens to participate in building up knowledge resources on the web. Wikipedia is a great catalyst in this connection. I am fluent in Danish, French, German and Spanish and have a good reading knowledge of the other Scandinavian, Germanic and Romance languages but prefer to spend most of my editing time on the English Wikipedia in view of its extensive readership.
biographies and background articles related to the above, including expansion of the articles on the Danish composer Carl Nielsen and his major compositions, on the novella Ved Vejen and on the Danish architects Jørn Utzon and Bjarke Ingels and their principal works
articles on Swedish art and architecture including Uppsala Cathedral, several churches especially those with frescos and a number of biographies (e.g. Anna Palm de Rosa)
general assistance with translation, mainly from Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish, including Cortina d'Ampezzo
See here for a list of the pages I started (the most recent appear at the top). I say "started" advisedly as the better articles have all benefited from the work of other editors. If you are more interested in my most recent additions, you can find them here. For those interested in statistics, you can find my overall edit counts here.
I sometimes use the following sandboxes for developing new articles but now more often begin writing them in the mainspace.
I look forward to feedback, reactions and additional contributions. If you wish to contact me by email, write to my Wikipedia user name at yahoo dot com.
I have no idea how you got through all those articles. You are truly an amazing mentor and an inspiration. SusunW (talk) 16:07, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
