Could you perhaps work some of your magic with categorising, and make the two pages in Category:Pages using deprecated templates disappear? Without removing the examples from those two pages, of course. Debresser (talk) 19:28, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
Likewise there is some discussion at Template_talk:Tfd-inline#Full_size_box_in_template_namespace, where Template:Tfd-inline is categorising itself and its documenttation. Could you please fix that as well? Debresser (talk) 14:05, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
Updates about icons for Wikipedia searching from web browser (different languages/versions)
Hello: Some weeks ago I updated (in the end!) Help talk:Searching#Icons of search engine plugins should reflect language of Wikipedias. These last days they've archived other subjects of "Help talk: Searching". I think that this subject of our interest has skipped the archiving by inches ... So when you recover perhaps you want to have a look. I hope you recover yourself soon & well. --Edupedro (talk) 15:05, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

registered-user-show CSS style
I was reading through a discussion you started about adding sysop-show and accountcreator-show the CSS loaded for sysops/accountcreators. In that discussion, you mentioned the possibility of adding a "user-show" class that could be used to make certain elements only visible to registered editors. I'm very interested in taking advantage of this type of functionality for a template/user script I'm designing. Could you drop me a note once you recover (and have time) about the current status of such a class. I'm also interested in discussions about this type of feature (one that shows something to logged in users, but not ips) if there is anything you could direct me to. Thanks and get well soon! --EpochFail(talk|work) 19:08, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
Bug with template:sec link and wiktionary
Hi, there is a bug with Template:Sec link links to Wiktionary. I have reported the bug here: Template talk:Sec link#Wrong capitalization for Wiktionary. You were the sole author of the template, so I was wondering if you could fix it. --208.80.119.67 (talk) 05:32, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Hey
Nice to see you around again, David (even if it's only a little bit). =) What do you think of the changes around here (particularly the ResourceLoader introduced with the deployment of MediaWiki 1.17)? Shame to hear you've decided to retire, not that I have any room to lament, considering my own retired status... ;) If it's not too much trouble, could you update the wiki-sick-leave notice to stop me concerned editors from worrying about your fate too much? I don't know whether you care anymore, but I noticed that most if not all of the files linked from that page have in fact been deleted locally. Anomie⚔ 16:22, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, it is unfortunate. I have moved this discussion to Wikipedia talk:Cascade-protected items#High-risk images and written a longer response there, since I have now figured out what could be done about it.

Deleting protected files
Greetings. I saw your comments this change, and wanted to check in with you on this. I hope I'm not responsible for the trouble here. I'm one of the few administrators who participated in the drive, but I don't remember deleting any protected images. I can assure you I'll be on the lookout for this in the future. Is there a way I can see whether I deleted any protected images, or what they are? If so, I can try to restore them. All the best, – Quadell (talk) 19:36, 3 October 2011 (UTC)

Secure server
Hi David, I've been busy today switching most templates and other stuff to the new https:// links. Thought you'd like to know, since you create {{sec link}} and friends. —TheDJ (talk • contribs) 13:41, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hello TheDJ. Oh, so WikiMedia has finally got around to get real https support, nice! And good to see that others take care of things when I am semi-retired.
- But, I took a quick look and you broke {{sec link/secure url}} since you removed the use of {{case preserving encode}}. You can read more about that at Template talk:Sec link#Wrong capitalization for Wiktionary.
- I'll see if I can get the time to check the {{sec link}} templates more. This seems to be a major change. Perhaps we don't even need most of these templates any more?
- --David Göthberg (talk) 14:27, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
-
- I copied {{sec link/normal url}}, is that broken as well then ? —TheDJ (talk • contribs) 17:27, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
-
-
- Oh, good catch! Yes, it seems that {{sec link/normal url}} also was broken before you fixed it by adding {{case preserving encode}}. So, can you add back the same fix to {{sec link/secure url}}?
- I am sorry that I don't have the time to look closer at all this. (It seems these templates soon will not be needed any more, but I am not up to date with all this stuff now.)
- And I noticed a comment (by you?) at another place that we can not detect if we are on the secure server when the new addresses are used. The ones looking like
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/
instead ofhttps://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/
. So I ran some tests with the different magic words and parser functions we have, and unfortunately you are right, there doesn't seem to be any way to detect if we are on a secure connection when the new addresses are used. But since MediaWiki handles secure addresses much better now it seems the only place we need to detect that is on the login page. - --David Göthberg (talk) 17:58, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I too think that the templates probably aren't that useful anymore in the not too distant future, but for now I prefer not breaking too much, and being able to revert it if absolutely necessary. There already is a ticket for the Special:UserLogin part bugzilla:31293 btw. Good to see you around this weekend, hadn't seen you for a long time (I have been contributing less myself due to work). Thx for the replies. —TheDJ (talk • contribs) 17:47, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

MSU Interview
Dear Davidgothberg,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
- Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
- Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
- All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
- All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
- The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chlopeck (talk • contribs) 14:08, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi. I noted many visible images are listed here. In recent days, the image File:Vynil record.jpg was deleted from Commons because it included copyrighted album covers. It was used in the WikiProjects {{albums}} and {{songs}} but since then it was replaced with the images File:Record-Album-02.jpg and File:WikiProject Songs 7" record on sheet music.png. The images are as visible as "Vynil record" (which also still linked in many talk pages). Can you add them to the list? Also, possibly File:Padlock-silver-light.svg and File:Padlock-orange.svg as they are used in WP:PC protections. Thank you in advice. Tbhotch.™ Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! Assistance request with Wikipedia:High-risk images
Hello Davidgothberg,
I was doing some research on WP:CSD criterion, and noticed that one of the criterion, CSD F8, had a link to Wikipedia talk:Cascade-protected items#About high-risk images explaining what a "High-risk image" is. Since this links to a section on a talk page, this isn't really an official community-approved process, and if the page gets archived, the link will eventually be broken. What I have done is the following:
- Copied the section Wikipedia talk:Cascade-protected items#About high-risk images over to a new page: Wikipedia:High-risk images.
- Placed a {{Brainstorming}} tag on Wikipedia:High-risk images until the guideline is further developed.
I'm informing you of this as you were one of the participants in Wikipedia talk:Cascade-protected items#About high-risk images. As I'm not a complete expert in the field of high-risk images, any assistance you may be able to provide in hopefully writing Wikipedia:High-risk images into a policy that can be accepted by consensus would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Steel1943 (talk) 17:52, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity
Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts.
