Rasipuram is a municipal corporation in Namakkal district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is a town 27 km (17 mi) from Salem, India.[1]

History
Rasipuram is a historic town dating back to at least the 1st century A.D. Rasipuram got its name from Raajapuram which literally means King's Town. Rasipuram is part of ancient Kongu Nadu and the region is known as Rasipura Nadu, an internal division of Kongu.
Rasipuram is known for hand-loom silk sarees. It is also famous for its Lord Shiva temple, said to have been constructed by King Valvil Ori in the 1st or 2nd century. It is believed that the temple possesses a secret path to the Arapallishwarar (Lord Shiva temple) at top of Kolli hills, which is famous for medicinal herbal plants and natural honey.
The County (Nagaratchi) of Rasipuram earlier was under the jurisdiction range of Salem District (Managaratchi), and later was managed by the Namakkal District range.
The town is famous for its authentic preparation of ghee and claims its status next to Oothukuli. It is famous for weaving Silk sarees Rasipuram Silks. The silk sarees and dhotis woven in this town were traded and also exported to neighboring countries.
Geography
Rasipuram is located at 11°28′N 78°10′E / 11.47°N 78.17°E.[2] It has an average elevation of 246 metres (807 feet).
Kolli Hills is located exactly 54 km from Rasipuram. A lot of medicinal plants and fruit varieties like jackfruit, pineapple and banana are available. A festival named after a legendary king Valvil Ori is celebrated to highlight the indigenous traditions, culture and values of the tribal people living in the hills.

- Kailasanathar Kovil - This Shiva temple was built by the famous King Valvil Ori. Reportedly founded by Adhan Ori, ruler of the Kolli Malai and Rasipura Nadu. According to local folklore, Ori stumbled upon a lingam in the ilandhai forests of Rasipuram while boar hunting. The chief deity’s consort is called Dharma Samvarthini whose name echoes the Buddhist name of Arapalli Isvara of the Kolli Malai.

- Pattanam Karupanar Temple - Kuladeivam (Community God) of Pattanam & Rasipuram people, located 4 km from Rasipuram. A festival is held in this temple every two years in March.
- Velampalyam Karupanar Temple - Kuladeivam (Community God) of Velampalyam Vanniyars, a very famous temple and an olden temple located in velampalayam.
- Sri Kamatchi Amman Temple - The Community God of R.Pudupalayam Located 3 km from Rasipuram. The Festival is Conducted every year during the Tamil Month Maasi(மாசி).This is the Temple having Silver Chariot(வெள்ளி ரதம்) in Rasipuram.
- Mariyamman Temple in R.Puduppalayam is very famous for festival which happens during the month of Diwali. It happens for three days among that first and last day is very famous for dancing for our village music.
- Chithirai temple car festival is famous in Rasipuram. Temple car is available for Shiva, Perumal and Amman separately.
- Ramalinga Sowdeswari Ammam Temple in V.Nagar-2. It Is very famous for festival which happens during the month of Pongal(தை-1). It happen for One day among very famous for sakthi alaithal and Kathi Poduthal(Vera kumararkal). its a Devangar Festival.

Transportation

- Rail : Located on the new broad gauge line[3] (under construction) which connects Salem and Karur.
- Air : Nearest airport is Salem Airport which is 37 km north of the town.in the rail way track now available for travelling but now goods train only going.
