The Oriya Wikipedia (Oriya: ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଉଇକିପିଡିଆ) (AKA Odia Wikipedia and orwiki) is the Oriya edition of Wikipedia, a free, web-based, collaborative, encyclopedia project supported by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation. The project started on June 2002 [2] and in May, 2011 count, this encyclopedia reached 1,000 articles.[3] This is one of the first 4 Indic Wikipedias started in 2002[4] among over 20 Indic language Wikipedias.[5] The first edit on Oriya Wikipedia was happened on 29 January 2004.[6][7][8]
Early history
Growth, coverage and popularity
Started in June 2002, it reached one thousand article by May 2011.[3][10] As of June 2012, it has 2638 articles and got rank 172 according to article count.[11] Oriya Wikipedians have organized meetups and workshops in seven different cities like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Anugul, Balasore, Bangalore and New Delhi [12] across India.[6] The readership has increased over 300% in the last six months. The page views per month is at 4.84 lakh. This Wikipedia ranks 176 among the 286 world language Wikipedias.[13][14]
