Supporters of same-sex marriage in the United States are Americans that support extending the right to marry to same-sex couples. The reform of marriage law has been the focus of many LGBT social movements. Politicians and political parties have expressed support and of the two main parties, the Democratic Party has the most supporters, but the cause has been championed by Libertarians, Greens, Socialists, and Communists.

National
The Republican Party has more conservative members than the Democratic Party,[1] and supports a ban on same-sex marriage through a federal constitutional amendment. It supports state constitutional amendments banning same-sex marriage and the Defense of Marriage Act, which blocks recognition of same-sex marriages across state borders.[2] The Democratic Party national platform opposes the Defense of Marriage Act and supports "equal responsibility, benefits, and protections" for same-sex couples,[3] but does not explicitly support or oppose same-sex marriage.[4]
Of the most significant third parties in the United States, the Communist,[5] Socialist,[6] and Green[7] parties explicitly support the legalization of same-sex marriage as part of a nondiscrimination agenda. The Libertarian Party also wishes to lift the bans, but with the ultimate goal of marriage privatization.[8] The Constitution Party opposes "government... [authorizing or defining] marriage or family relations contrary to what God has instituted" and "any legal recognition of homosexual unions".[9]
