History
The company was formed by the merger of Siebe plc and BTR plc in 1999.[4] In the years 1999 to 2004 Invensys underwent a major restructuring programme to cut its costs. Falling sales and large debts had led to the danger of the company going bankrupt. A major disposal programme, combined with a £2.7bn debt restructuring in 2004 saved the company from collapse.[5] During that time Invensys bought[6] and sold The Baan Corporation[7], and its number of employees was reduced from around 120,000 to fewer than 20,000.
Operations
Invensys has three divisions:[8]
Invensys Operations Management: Invensys Operations Management was formed from the three Invensys industrial automation businesses - Invensys Process Systems, Wonderware and Eurotherm - and IMServ, a carbon and energy data monitoring business previously part of Invensys Controls. Sudipta Bhattacharya is the current Chief Executive Officer of Invensys Operations Management, which is headquartered in Plano, Texas, USA. [9]
Invensys Rail: Invensys rail designs, manufactures, supplies, installs, commissions and tests safety-related rail signaling, grade crossing predictors, and control systems for mainline, metro and freight railways. James Drummond is the Chief Executive Officer of Invensys Rail, headquarted in Chippenham in the United Kingdom.[10]
Invensys Controls: Invensys Controls is a provider of components, systems and services used in appliances, heating, air condition/cooling, refrigeration and safety products as well as building systems across a wide range of industries in residential and commercial markets. Mark Balcunas is the Chief Executive Officer of Invensys Controls, headquarted in Carol Stream, Illinois, USA. [11]
