Ahmad "Slim" Nivins is a power forward for the Dallas Mavericks. He was drafted with the 56th overall pick of the 2009 NBA draft. He previously played for the Saint Joseph's Hawks men's basketball team. He is the school's leader in career field goal percentage (63.4). He is also one of 26 Hawks to record 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in his career. Nivins is fifth on SJU's all-time list with 110 blocks.[1] Not only is "Slim" a fantastic basketball player, he is known for being a great team player with an amazing personality.
CollegeChalkTalk listed him as the second best returning player in the Atlantic 10 for the 2008-09 season.[2]. Jeff Goodman of FoxSports ranked Nivins as the number one player who needs to "come back" for his team to succeed. Said Goodman, "It’s not as if he was bad or anything, but the talented big man will have to dominate this season".
Sporting News and College Chalk Talk both predict that Nivins will be First Team All-Conference as a senior.[3] As of January 18th, he has been named Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week five times.
Nivins was the 2009 Atlantic-10 Player of the Year and 2009 Big 5 Player of the Year. Nivins was drafted in the second round with the 26th pick by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2009 NBA Draft.
